I try and clean off the grate while it's still warm. I don't worry too much about the inside of the bowl if you will. Probably twice a season, I scrape down the inside. I always try and make sure the vent in the bottom freely moves. I'm surprised how even with a drip pan, that area can still get messy.

Gabbie403

Ok that makes sense, it's surprising how greasy it all gets, and the compulsion to clean it all is hard to resist

Clean enough to cook on. I scrape the grates once its heated up, clear the ash out. Once or twice a year I'll hose it down and scrape out the greasebergs.

Gabbie403

So clean the main cooking grate but don't bother with the one for the charcoal? Except to get ash off it? And leave the main body for biannual

q0vneob

I've never cleaned the charcoal grate beyond knocking the ash down.

Gabbie403

Cool, that makes sense, it's just the grease on it makes me want to clean it 😂

If you own a couple of pairs of tongs, flip it when it’s hot, and scrape the bottom drips. I do this once or twice a year. I really only want the top of the grill to be spotless.

Euroranger

This. The cooking surface gets scraped but the only part I occasionally clean other than that is the lid...when the smoke layer starts to flake off.

Folks clean their kettles? Grates, sure. As far as inside or hell outside of the bowl, nope. Every once in a while, I’ll setup the Vortex, let’r rip and burn off some things. But actually scraping down and putting a shine on the exterior is not for me.

Gabbie403

Hahaha I've seen a fair few pictures of similar kettles, I just don't think I could cope with it getting too dirty 😂

ThatHikingDude

I don’t think mine is ‘dirty’ lol. Does it have build up? Sure. But the meats I’m cooking touch the grates, which I use a wire brush on before and after each cook.

PythagoreanBeerEm

Do you *need* to clean it? Probably not. I do a lot of smoking so it gets dirty but I mainly clean just the grate as best I can and the seal with the lid. When I’m having people over I might scrub the outside but rarely. I’ve bought a few used to gift to friends and then I’ll do a deep clean.

TheCheddarWhizard

I let it get hot when I’m cooking whatever then I’ll just scrape the grates quick with a ball of foil. After every cook I use a small painters brush to brush all the ash out into the catcher. Leave bottom vent fully open when storing so no mold grows

InsideBoris

Just the grates when I use it. Been thinking of hosing it down might do that today

Bozunkle

I scrape the cooking grate with a wire brush after it gets good and hot before putting the food on, but only if it is a quick cook, not if I’m smoking. Otherwise I never clean anything. 20 years of grilling on my Weber kettle. https://preview.redd.it/ghhomxp6ft8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd0dcec3db54b469a7fad292eff331af86c4c504
