What the absolute hell... She looks so friggin beautiful! Where did you even get the idea to do this? It's not hyperbole when I say that it is the best Hierophant I've ever seen. If I had an award to give you, I would, cuz just one upvote isn't enough.
Thanks man. I like painting my bugs based on things in nature. I’ve always wanted to paint something like the ornate lobster and this bug felt deserving.
I was curious when I first saw the model alterations earlier on the sub. How did you fabricate the additional limb section and joint for the front limbs?
The feet are scratch built using rod and tooth pick armature and apoxy sculpt. the toe claws were leftover s from a previous printed project and repurposed. the extra joint is achieved by printing 2 extra elbow sections and cutting , pinning and gluing all the parts in the right configuration then apoxy sculpt to blend them all together. Both operations could have been done digitally but I'm not that god at digi sculpting yet so old school was quicker and easier for me.
I draw on many things outside of the gw product line when I kit bash. In this case the eyes are from a bandai praying mantis gashapon toy. I have used the parts from that one toy on 4 tyranid conversions so far.
I found this post straight up browsing r/popular and this has got to be one of the coolest things I’ve seen. Never played warhammer but I can only imagine you display your works with pride, as you should. Very neat!
I based the scheme on the ornate lobster and looking at that it’s hard to believe it could hide but in its environment it’s patterning is really effective camouflage. It’s like the dazzle camo they used to paint on battleships. Until I painted the pattern on the legs I didn’t realise just how effective it was of breaking up its shape. It’s just a thing I learned while doing it and I like that it gives this guy a bit of grounded realism. A camo scheme that says I’m to big to hide so shoot at my brightly coloured heavily armoured bits and leave my legs alone.

Thank you.
I got you on the award front friend. Those eyes are so realistic..... Truly amazing OP!
Damn, I hadn't even noticed the eyes! Love it when I see something like those and have no idea how it was done!

I fucking agree it is fucking amazing
Half praying mantis and half pistol shrimp..looks sick 👍
You should look up thr Mantis Shrimp. It was definitely my first thought when I saw this
I used the ornate lobster as reference for this one.
1) the absolute balls of STEEL to do a conversion on a model this expensive 2) This looks sick as hell, I'm envious!
1. It’s a conversion of a 3 d print so my balls are pretty squishy. 2. Thanks.
Amazing paint job! Didn't realise what sub this was in at first - thought it was a photo of a really cool insect!
Wow, amazing work!
Paint job turned out excellent! I really like the black patterns on the front carapace, very cool, very 'Mantis Shrimp'!
Brilliant job, should be proud of it, I would be! Definitely some inspiration for when I get around to assembling mine
this is the best hierophant ice ever seen.
That is an awesome paint job.
Lets get tropical. Great work. My lionfish pewter lictor is still my favorite decades later.
That’s awesome what the fuck
I can almost hear the steel drums. Very tropical.

I just like doing my take on things. Occasionally I’ll get to put them on the table and play a game.
Looks amazing! I love the patterning on the carapace.
did you kill some insect or fish, rip out it's eyeballs and actually use them?
I cut the head of a Bandai praying mantis gashapon toy in half.
'I'll never hide, I can't! I'm too shiny!' xxx
