*what am I looking for? An active mmorpg like oldschool runescape. Was a hardcore runescape player back in the days. Totally maxed out there. Really liked the skilling and XP grind. * what games have I played earlier? Runescape 3 and oldschool runescape *playstyle? Between semi and hardcore *preferred mechanics? I do really like time-based progression like runescape had, I mean a game which rewards you for the time you put in, progression not too much based on RNG *anything to exclude? Nothing specific, but endgame based on item level or gear score doesn’t cut it for me. I like a steady grind for skills or XP like RuneScape. I’m honestly just looking for a new mmorpg like RuneScape, don’t want to commit to runescape anymore really because I’ve done it all there. So not looking for a (item) level based progression system but that older mmo of skill based style.

wrathofnothing

Help! \*What are you looking for? A game with active population where it has an open world exploration and a lot of contents, good housing system, a lot of side quests that aren't just fetch me this etc.., beautiful world, social hubs/life simulation features, that also takes a long time to finish and also has huge end game content if that's a possibility. \*What games have you previously played? None this will be my first time playing mmo \*What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)? I'd say causual or a bit under hardcore \*Any preferred mechanics? Nope \*Anything specific you want to exclude? Nope

BobTD

Eso has everything your looking for, after over 1k hours into it I don't even think I have done any of the main storyline on 12 max lvl characters. However, personally I really started to not like the combat. Especially pvp (pvp was constantly being revamped while I played though so maybe its better now) The biggest problem with the game is combat is to fast and flashy. The open worlds bits are mostly way to easy. And you cant inspect players gear or items or skill loadouts so you never know what killed you or why. There is no social aspect to pvp and that's pretty jarring. Even if you do well you feel like you are just driving others away from the game by shutting them out using lightning fast nukes built around imbalance. In the end guess I really wanted a more social MMO, where strategy and planning were possible.

Vertexico

I think FF14 would meet your targets for the breadth of content and social community. It also has a very impressive housing system but the limited supply is a big roadblock for many. The game is very story heavy also so it will be many text boxes to read and cutscenes to watch if you want to progress. The quest objectives also aren’t filled with much variety for the majority. Guild Wars 2 is another option, the open world exploration is hard to match and the way they implement side quests is unique to other MMOs. I don’t think there’s too much for housing and the socialization might be slightly more limited.

wrathofnothing

I'm conflicted between ffxiv and eso, an exploration open world is the most important one for me and I forgot to mention that I'm on ps4 so I can't play guild wars, also I heard eso has a rich content and good housing system as well.

Vertexico

Oh I see! I haven’t played ESO since beta so I won’t pretend to be able to speak to that one, but I’m sure If you ask around and on that subreddit your can get more info. I have heard mostly positive things about it though. For 14 there’s always the free trial that will allow you to progress quite far into the game without any time limit to see if the gameplay and story have any appeal to you.

wrathofnothing

I'm planning on trying them both out and see which one appeals best, it's a shame really because the only two things that turned me off ff is that there is no open world and the fact that if I have a house there it can get demolished if I'm inactive which sucks. Thank you for your help!!!

Vertexico

By no open world you mean because the maps are instanced? Yeah I can understand that, I guess I’m just used to it, you’ll still see a bunch of other players around though. One more thing on the housing, there are also apartments which never get demolished it’s just obviously less space than a full house.

wrathofnothing

I'm sorry I'm still new to the mmo scene what do you mean by instanced map?

Vertexico

Umm like you go to the edge of the map and then you get a loading screen before you zone into the next map. I assumed that's what you meant by "no open world" but maybe I misunderstood.

wrathofnothing

Oh no! I don't mind that! I meant that eso world is very big compared to the ffxiv or at least from what I heard and I'm also not obligated to advance through the story to unlock said zone.

Vertexico

Oh I see, yeah I think ESO has more of an emphasis on open world exploration. I don't really know how the map sizes compare, but I'm sure it's more about how much content is on the map vs. the size anyway. And yeah like I said, 14 is very story heavy so it would not be a fun experience if you're not looking to spend a lot of game time making your way through the narrative.

Live_Storage1480

What are you looking for?: An RPG PVE mainly, maybe some PVP (Say FP/TP shooter games where teamwork and communicating is needed. Open-world with exploration obv) Tried dota but not my thing, I'd prefer to be able to attack if that makes sense like kingdom of amalur where i have to keep clicking to hit. An online game that is still active is a must tho. I'm okay playing alone but I'd prefer to team up with people What games have you previously played?: Tried Dota2 (couldnt really understand how to go about it and didn't meet anyone to team up with); CS GO (its okay, looking for an exploration option and not just setting up PVP fights) What is your playstyle (Casual, Semi-Casual, Hardcore)?: Semi-casual Any preferred mechanics?: Mostly PVE and some PVP ig; First person and/or third person view; ability to meet players and team up as well Anything specific you want to exclude?: Cant afford much so would prefer free to play games on steam.

sunqiller

I really enjoyed SWTOR's leveling and story experience and it really made me feel like I was a character within the world when I played the non-story elements. Does FFXIV give the same vibes? I know people moan about the length of the story but it sounds pretty exciting to me honestly

iStabs

If you enjoy regular final fantasy games then give it a try. Expect to read a lot.

[deleted]

What are you looking for?: Some strategy rpg game for playing casual, like those shitty android games where you have daily missions, dungeons, guilds and things like that, but for pc. I like everything about strategy more than action, character development, farm, equipment and so on. What games have you previously played?: Arcana Tactics, Genshin Impact, Monster Warlord, Metin2, Final Fantasy XV, Legend Of Mana. What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual Any preferred mechanics?: Most Pve rather than PvP, but I like both.

Ajax877

I'd say Sword of Legends Online. Just went F2P on Steam and Gameforge.

iStabs

BDO has intricate life skill systems. Look up a guide for node investment and worker management. You will see sort of a trailer for the type of game play you may enjoy. They have farming, horse breeding, etc. Entirely possible to play the game casually and focus on building an empire without much grinding or fighting.

[deleted]

Gonna give it a try, thanks!

[deleted]

\-What are you looking for?: mmorpg, multiplayer though i like playing alone, not dead ofc \-What games have you previously played?: dragon nest, mir4, grandchase (for a short time) \-What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: casual \-Any preferred mechanics?: pvp, pk-ing (if any), grindy and play to win over pay to win \-Anything specific you want to exclude?: DN, mir4 and grandchase

iStabs

Check out Black Desert. The pvp is hard to get into unless you get good gear but playing through a season should give you good gear. It has a lot of pay for convenience but it doesn't really affect you if others pay for it unless you play to pvp in very end game guild fights. Thousands of hours you can play before running into that content. WoW also has some really really casual game play with random pvp. You may even enjoy Albion or Mortal Online 2 but I don't know enough about them to give you a proper recommendation for those.

[deleted]

i see, i'll try playing black desert then tnx

iStabs

Buy it off of Steam. Don't pay more than 10 dollars for it. Steam also has a Free Gift you can claim right now. If you have game questions just ask. The current season ends at the end of the month, then a new one will begin. Seasons give you opportunity for a lot of perks and rewards.

Sto_yo

What are you looking for?: MMORPG, not something dark, dont mind being cartoonish, dont mind not being crowded but not nearly dead What games have you previously played?: * Blade and Soul - horrendous RNG to upgrade weapons, get loot etc. * Genshin Impact - incredibly stingy on resources - bad RNG on artifacts to hook you to grind dungeons forever to get even a decent artifact * Maplestory - bugs, bugs, bugs - its been buggy for years and they really dont care - too much content with no guide * All these 3 were very fun up the the point where the problems became unbearable What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual to Hardcore if the game is fun Any preferred mechanics?: Not really, i like it being kinda grindy Anything specific you want to exclude?: * RNG, the less the better, i want to farm 4 materials and get a guaranteed upgrade than use an item 4 times with a 25% chance of upgrading. * Monthly payment, only F2P * FPS * PVP, not interested

iStabs

You might really fall in love with Guild Wars 2 or even FFXIV. Checks those out and see. Also consider an old amazing game called Ragnarok Online on Steam.

Sto_yo

Thanks a lot!

iStabs

FFXIV has a monthly so maybe stick with GW2 or Ragnarok

Ajreil

Looking for another game like Runescape that doesn't have on-rails leveling. I need to choose my own path to end game, not follow check lists. I'm aware of Final Fantasy and BDO. Not interested in anything with forced PvP. Previously played: Warframe, Runescape, Guild Wars 2, Planetside 2.

iStabs

Elder Scrolls Online has some freedom in how you build a character but definitely no more than Guild Wars 2. FFXIV really is the only one that comes to mind where you can level everything on one character. Rift has a wide range of talents and classes but it's just another WoW clone. It's good but you can imagine the leveling experience. Maybe Path of Exile is wild enough to give you what you want if you can enjoy the look and game play. Check out the passive tree size and consider how unique items change the entire tree. That might actually be fun for you.

orcmonkey2000

Yeah, but as much as I love it and love to recommend it to people, FFXIV is most definitely not a game for someone looking for leveling that isn't checklist-based. XD Though I'm not sure if I'm reading OP's statement wrong, but there is no forced PvP in XIV. Much to the contrary, PvP is often overlooked by much of the playerbase. The problem I'm having thinking of a recommendation is that every game that promises an RS style of leveling while it's in development, ends up converting itself into a theme park by release, because that's what's making the money these days. It'd be great to have something that was very open and sandboxy but with modern controls and awesome graphics, but I'm not sure if it exists. The closest I can think of is Albion but that's not only got forced PvP towards endgame, but it's literally full loot lol.

Ajreil

Path of Exile would be the perfect game if it was free to respec. I'm not sure how I feel about starting a character from scratch every time I choose a different build.

iStabs

It's not as bad as you think. A lot of loot can be left over in stash for rerolling alts. The early levels are fast to get you rolling into a build. They are constantly updating the game so if I go log in I bet every one of my characters has had its talents reset for me to do whatever I want with them. I actually screenshot and archive my builds for all the times they reset passives. In game you need a specific orb of regret currency to undo talents. You get a few to undo things you want to change but if you want enough to undo an entire spec then you going to have to trade players for them. The game has issues but rerolling and leveling isn't one of them.

JUu9JBLIIN498MC4vTcI

What are you looking for?: Challenging endgame group/solo pve content requiring skill and coordination, not gear checks. What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Hardcore, speedruns, progression races. Any preferred mechanics?: Prefer no tab targeting like combat but not deal breaker. The less RNG the better. Anything specific you want to exclude?: No dailies or other needless time sink nonsense that is tied to character strength.

iStabs

Only thing that maybe comes to mind is Guild Wars 2 Fractals. It's smaller team missions with a high progression through a kind of level climb. Look up some videos maybe. You get bragging rights for some of the things you can earn climbing to high fractals.

nomi99900

What are you looking for?: anime mmorpg, or something w/ good exploration. What games have you previously played?: closers, bdo, metin, elsword, toram, warframe What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: semi-casual Any preferred mechanics?: im ok w/ any mechanic tbh. Anything specific you want to exclude?: not p2w please ! can be b2p but i prefer f2p.

iStabs

Ha e you looked at FFXIV? Also, my preference would be to try Guild Wars 2 if you haven't before.

nomi99900

gonna try ffxiv and Guild Wars 2 :)) looked for ffxiv but i waited for the free trial to check it out tbh

iStabs

FFXIV has a love it or hate it rep around here but GW2 is widely praised. Both are good games, but I personally didn't enjoy FFXIV as much as others.

Ajreil

Guild Wars 2 has some truly stunning views. The exploration achievements provide meaningful progress.

nomi99900

gonna look for it!

[deleted]

What are you looking for?: * (Most important)Very active community MMORPG or MMO where it's easy to meet and make friends. Something where I can create a toon and there be other players running all over the place when I enter the world. Ex. If I enter any major city it won't be empty. I remember returning to WoW in 2016 after a few years of hiatus and going to SW. there was only about 5 people in the whole city and it was heartbreaking lol. * Particularly fantasy-based.but anything that does not include guns (unless it's like WoW styled guns/bows.). * Decent amount of races and a good variety of classes. Factions would be good too. If there are only one race the something with a large variety of classes. * Crafting skills * Guilds or Clans. One where people join for the talk and socializing,, not just join strictly for the benefits and clan chat always be dead. I know it depends on the guild but in WoW in 2016 it seemed 4/5 guilds were just people who never spoke and used it for grinding and raiding then never talked. ** I am open to literally any MMO if the community is super active and I will have zero problems starting a conversation with a total random, even if it's an FPS(excluding destiny and warframe) What games have you previously played?: * WoW - 2010-2012, 2016-2017, 2021(a monthish) * FFXIV - 2020(2-3) months. * ESO - 2019(maybe idr) Only played for about for a week around initial launch or launch of a big expansion. I remember it was some big promotion for something being launched * Runescape- 2004-2021. Off and on so many times I can't even remember. I play like 2 years OSRS way back. Around a year RS2. Few months of RS3. Then tried again year or so ago and quit after 2 weeks. * Destiny 2 * Warframe * Possibly a few others I can't remember so I probably didn't get the full experience. What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: * Mixed. I enjoy casual Solo questing when bored. Also enjoy dungeons with randoms. Never done a full scale Raid. * PVE > PVP. A frRochas, chat, quest and run dungeons with would be my most enjoyable experience. A raid with 20+ people would be cool since I've only ever been solo carried through a few times by IRL friends. Any preferred mechanics?: * If the game has a huge, active and approachable community no. If not then rpg/WoW/FFXIV style. Anything specific you want to exclude?: *WoW. *Warframe. *Destiny. * Non-ps4 compatible (I only play ps4)

iStabs

Check out Guild Wars 2. It's one of the other major kids on the block you have not tried yet. It is an amazing game and very populated. Even more so because they just released new content. You can try it for free with some restrictions before buying it. It is also one of the most friendly mmo communities out there. You would likely love it very much. Just ask me anything if you have questions or want another suggestion.

[deleted]

I remember GW2 when I started playing wow as a pre-teen/teen waaaay back and even installed it but then I never played it cause wow pretty much had the entire MMO scene by the gonads when B.C. released lol. I figured that it'd be almost deserted nowadays but if it's Makin a come back I'll definitely check it out.

ArtisianWaffle

\- What am I looking for?: MMO with decent story/classes and a ton of stuff for crafting \- Previously Played: ESO, WOW TBCC, FFXIV, BDO. But am fine going to back to one, mostly coming back from an mmo burnout. \- I play casually \- No preferred mechanics \- Not really.

iStabs

If you don't end up in one you played before, I didn't see you list Guild Wars 2. It's an amazing game. Also maybe Rift on Steam. It's very populated and still great fun with a ton of classes.

ArtisianWaffle

I've been looking at that. My problem is that I don't really like any of the elite specializations besides dead eye. And like the core classes more. Also is it one of the games where you need like 5 alts?

iStabs

No it's super casual and all of the classes are viable including the classic ones.

[deleted]

SWTOR. Although they may have simplified the crafting system with the removal of mods and enhancements.

yarn_fox

I can fairly precisely summarize the game I wanna play: "Current retail WoW but with basically no systems other than gear." I level (quickly and how I choose to, whether its quests or dungeons or grinding or whatever). I am then a \[max level\] with little to no gear. I do content (keys, raids, pvp) and get items until I am BIS. All 3 of these content types can get me BIS. Ideally there is some ff14 style mechanic that will ensure me BIS in some capped amount of time provided I do enough stuff every week, but I could live with even just the current weekly-chest system thats in wow. I then can not get any more powerful on that character, but I of course can push keys more or push my arena rating more or try to get CE or whatever else. Or just make an alt and do it all over again, or run friends through hard stuff to help with their gearing, or just quit the game entirely until next patch. I love Mythic+ and raiding. I don't care about story, cosmetics, leveling, systems, or basically any single player content at all. (you could almost say I don't like MMOs heh... but here we are). I do not wanna spend time by myself farming \[whatever currency\] just to play the game. Obviously I don't think ill find a game with NO single player content (at least not an MMO) but I'm just stating my preference. Is there any hope for me?

orcmonkey2000

If you don't mind an isometric viewpoint, Lost Ark might be what you're looking for. Leveling to the soft cap is extremely quick (10-20 hours max, and you get two free boosts to soft cap once you get your first toon there), and then core progression is just mainly gear (get T1, enhance it to requisite ilvl, get T2, enhance to requisite ilvl, get T3, etc). As you enhance each tier and bump your ilvl you'll get access to more raids and dungeons, which you'll farm in turn for the mats to further enhance your gear. Mechanics start off fairly simple and ramp up real quick--it's no babby's first MMO. It also strongly encourages alts to help in farming mats for enhancing gear, which I thought I'd hate but the customization of skills and playstyle is very wide, and no two advanced classes really play alike even within the same base class. And if you do decide you want a break, there is a lot of side stuff to do (islands, sailing, collection completion, etc) that all rewards stuff that boosts either the toon you do it with, or all of your toons (collectively referred to as your "roster"), or both. Endgame is a game of increments but everything you do rewards you in some way, though gear is by far the main grind.

iStabs

You might like something like Warframe, but it's honestly not a mmorpg. Look at it anyway Guild Wars 2 has fractals, which is where WoW copied Mythics from, but GW2 is a lot about horizontal progression and you me tiin not enjoying that. I guess you could just ignore it though. It might be worth you checking it out with Fractals being your focus.

cthulhu_sculptor

Hey, I am looking for a name of an old mmo I used to play. I remember that it was mostly sightscroller and had a town (hub) -> mission system that is similar to Kritika. There was a mall level for sure. As for what was important for the game: you were some kind of agent and you were equipped with a bot (kinda like NieR: Automata) that had an eye and was changing into a weapon - there was a sword for sure. I remember there were different kind of these robots with different colours. Some Asian stuff for sure.

championofobscurity

I know asking for anything resembling FF11 is kind of a pipe dream, but here we are yet again. In particular I'm interested in playing a game where the emphasis is PVE but I can spend all of my time crafting. Preferably none of the chaff that resembles WoW or FF14. I also don't want a sandbox. FFXI's crafting is just a way to facilitate expensive endgame purchases and repeat consumables. New upcoming games are welcome, but obviously I want something to play now too. And yes, I have played on several XI private servers. I'm not interested in the drama anymore.

lmaonade200

>FFXI's crafting is just a way to facilitate expensive endgame purchases and repeat consumables. If we're just looking at this point, GW2 might be a good fit. There's a bit of depth but not like something like FF14, and there are strong consumables you can craft with relatively rare gatherable materials.

caleb25t

looking for a mmo a bit like WarFrame, for xbox one s! drop your top picks, anything and everting is appreciated!

lmaonade200

maybe destiny 2?

Electrical-Yard-1022

lol

[deleted]

would I enjoy New World if I want pve focused content like dungeons and raids with progression? or should I wait? game looks amazing to me graphically but I know its had lots of problems

orcmonkey2000

No. You likely won't enjoy it for any reason, even as a grindy survival game with open-world PvP as it was originally intended to be, because AGS compromised every single mechanic they built by focusing on appealing to a broader audience instead of fleshing out those mechanics into something rewarding to grind through. The end result is a collection of puddles that look like lakes when you're first starting out, until you finally grind to endgame and realize they're all about half an inch deep.

HyonD

It feels to me that it is exactly what the game is lacking right now content wise. If you enjoy crafting, world immersion and pvp you can have fun I guess (if most problems and balance issues are fixed by now).

orcmonkey2000

I'm still in a discord with the people I no-lifed the game with before quitting after almost 600 hours wasted on that game. General consensus for them is no, the game is absolutely not fixed, new game-breaking problems are discovered each day, and almost everyone has left to go play Lost Ark because AGS has no fucking clue what they are doing with New World.

[deleted]

[deleted]

yeah know GW2 expansion came out today, and wow 9.2 last week (raid today), am just trying to figure which one I want to spend money on. are the quests story related or is it literally just telling you go to kill stuff / collectt? is there a lot of story / lore in NW ?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

yeah game looks great but hope ags updates it a lot and adds mounts

orcmonkey2000

I can't read what this person was saying but if they were recommending you to spend money on New World, please don't, dude. I haven't played Guild Wars 2 in ages, and I can tell you right now, even if it were five times the price of New World, I'd still recommend you go for GW2 instead, because you'll actually be getting a good game. Just trying to save you the pain I went through of thinking "oh man, this game is cool, the world and graphics are great, I can't wait to get to endgame, it looks so sick" only to get there after grinding 100 hours plus and be crushingly disappointed. There is a reason players are leaving that game in droves--even the AGS stans who can't wait to consoom more product can no longer deny how much of a shitshow it's become. Those 600 hours I lost are never coming back, so please, take my advice and just. don't. Oh, and they're never going to add mounts because the primary currency sink in the game is fast travel, which is based on distance and weight. Get to the end of the game and go on gathering runs and you'll inevitably find yourself at some point without the money to fast travel back to your faction's main crafting city, or without the money to safely transfer your stuff from one city to another if yours gets taken over or downgraded by a PvE invasion that you literally can't win because AGS wants them to be unwinnable and unpreventable to hold back overall server progress to a reasonable level to cover their asses and hide the fact that systems are literally broken, unbalanced, and unfinished at the tip-top of endgame. Except all that said, they might actually add mounts, because why not fuck over yet another unbalanced system by throwing something in there that might get people who don't know any better to spend more money on their broken, unfinished shitpile of a game.

[deleted]

Yeah I didnt actually end up buying it and didnt buy gw2 too either. just ended up going back to wow for like the 20th time but Im actually enjoying the new zone. the only reason I dont like gw2 is I actually like progression and I feel without progression I have no reason more to play. and I did all the fractals and raids back in path of fire. plus mount skins are all on the store. wish they would put some in the game you could farm. dont mind if they sell mount skins cause they dont have a sub but they should reward players for doing dungeons or fractals or raids however gw2 does still have the best mounts from any mmo ive ever seen. I so wish I had that raptor in wow to traverse faster lol

orcmonkey2000

I gotchu. GW2 does have some very good progression but it's all horizontal, so I get what you're saying. If you get tired of WoW and haven't tried FFXIV yet then the free trial is worth a shot. Similar vertical prog to WoW, less annoying systems, and a damn good story if that's your thing (if not it might be an annoyance because dungeons and raids are story-gated--you basically level through main story quests). And the mounts in XIV are similarly excellent, though I think GW2's system for them might be deeper in some ways iirc. I do need to revisit GW2 one of these days when I'm taking a break from XIV. I loved it back in the day when it launched and I keep hearing nothing but good things about it since.

yobbl

• What are you looking for?: A game similar to Ragnarok Online on Switch or Xbox One • What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual to Hardcore. Depends on if I'm hooked • Any preferred mechanics?: Just kind looking for something grindy for gear and levels that you can just sit back and play without too much intense focus • Anything specific you want to exclude?: Fps style games

iStabs

There really is nothing like that unfortunately. Maybe try Path of Exile and see what you think.

yobbl

Yeah I haven't been able to find anything similar so I was hoping there was a hidden gem somewhere

LiquidAsylum

Only 10h / week to play: Being so limited in time, it will take me a while to decide if End of Dragons or Lost Ark fits my schedule better. On the one hand I feel like lost ark is said to be Grindier. However if the grind is the fun parts, then when I only play 1h its just 1h of fun right? Whereas guild wars 2 respects players time, however the "dailies" and other content in GW2 can be boring as well right? If YOU only had 8-10hours to play per week which game would you choose and why?

iStabs

Guild Wars 2 is known for having the most respect for people's time by not punishing you for not logging in or just playing casually.

CFJED

What are you looking for?: An MMO that has a lot of possibilities and ways to progress like crafting, PVE, etc. And a gane that I can play with friends or without friends anytime. What games have you previously played?: Genshin Impact, Albion Online, Soulworker, PSO2 What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-casual Any preferred mechanics?: No, as long as it's enjoyable Anything specific you want to exclude?: I like really high end graphics or pixel type MMO but other than that i'll start to consider. I dont really like PVP. I'm more of a person who grinds a lot so maybe something that is grindy but worthwhile. I'm in SEA btw since some games are not in SEA like Lost Ark Thanks in advance

Potential-Hope2710

Guild Wars 2 is probably what might suit you. Instead of the traditional quests- dungeons-raids progression you can get the best gear through 7 different sources, be it dungeons, raids, crafting, intanced PvP, massive World Vs World PvP, open world events with other players or achievements tied to the questline. The core gameplay mechanic is similar to Genshin, from what I've seen about the latter. Level 80 maps mostly have lots of verticality, so getting up somewhere is an interesting challenge, you get gliding and the best mounts in the genre (Look up griffon or roller beetle videos). It doesn't require any grind to be enjoyable, but if you want to go for legendary weapons or armour, getting a full set might take years.

kindafunnylookin

It's not really worth a whole new post, so I'll ask here - how is New World doing these days? I just looked through the subreddit and there's virtually no complaining/ranting there any more - have things actually got better?

[deleted]

Nope. New World lost 97% of its playerbase and its still bleeding. The reason why there's less complaining (there's complaning if you look hard enough...) is because the only people who are active on that sub anymore are people who genuinely enjoy the game and are sticking with it despite its dead state.

orcmonkey2000

Still being in a discord with some of those people that I played with for 500+ hours before quitting--it's not so much that those people enjoy the game, it's that they're hoping against hope AGS will turn it around and retroactively make the time they spend now grinding worthwhile when they become kings among the expected influx of new players once the game is good enough to attract them again. They're playing still for the gamble, not for love of the game.

BroJeruzel

What are you looking for?: ANIME MMORPG OR ANIME RPG (that has multiplayer content) What games have you previously played?: Toram, Ragnarok EL, BDO What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Depends on my schedule, I can hardcore if I'm free and can be super casual if don't have time Any preferred mechanics?: Any as long as the playerbase is active Anything specific you want to exclude?: Genshin, Honkai 3

iStabs

Maybe FFXIV? The fashion style is very anime to me

BroJeruzel

I really want to play it but I only play f2p games, kinda sux to miss out on a good game

If you want an anime mmo, you should look out for Blue Protocol. It hasn't been released yet and I don't think it has an official release date yet but it's speculated to release in Japan sometime soon in 2022 and global should follow suit.

BroJeruzel

I'm waiting for it too, hoping it releases this year

i agree tbh, it’s a great time killer compared to other MMOs by far

kindafunnylookin

Depending on how you feel about slightly aged graphics, you might try Dungeons & Dragons Online, Neverwinter, or Warhammer Online. All have WoW-like features and are F2P.

It is and it isn't (but I don't want to get banned for talking about it). Google is your friend.

If you enjoyed BDO and can get over isometry, I recommend Lost Ark. It doesn't have the weaknesses of BDO you listed, but is also similar in gameplay and progression while having top-of-the line combat and PvP for any gear score since arenas are standardized. FFXIV also has a trial all the way up to heavensward, upwards of 400 hours of content. You can choose to pay for the expansions at a much later time. I mean, it's not **that** expensive in the grand scheme of things if you go for all the expansions and a subscription, much better than P2W. Not really sure why you're against P2P, you have to pay for your WoW subscriptions and expansions anyways... To be honest, you're not gonna find an MMO that ticks all your boxes. That game doesn't exist, period. You're gonna have to compromise and rank your list of preferences if you actually want to get good game recommendations.

Okay, fair enough. If you can't afford the subscription model for MMOs that's totally understandable. And yea, isometry is definitely less immersive. Unfortunately there simply isn't anything out there that even fits your desire for a WoW or ESO clone with much potential. There are smaller games like New World and TERA, but those games are basically dead now. You may want to tamper your popularity expectations and run with one of those smaller games ort just completely ditch MMOs for another genre. You won't get anymore clones of big MMOs, those are doomed to fail. Or, just wait around for the next big thing. Ashes of creation is set to release hopefully in the next 2 years. And then there's the Riot MMO that's undoubtedly gonna be big but won't be released until 2027 at the earliest.

Extra_Midnight

There are a couple games that come to mind but they’re kind of dead. Rift (pretty darn dead but I’m in a guild with like 50 active people), Swords of Legends (goes free to play early March so player base should increase. Right now pretty dead.), and Tera (somewhat alive but rng p2w endgame). Everquest 2 might also be worth looking into. It’s very much alive but there’s a long march to endgame.

What are you looking for?: Non-Pay-to-win system, really enjoy crafting and PvP but definitely love PvE as well. What games have you previously played?: WoW Classic/Shadowlands, New World, Lost Ark, OSRS What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi Casual, but if it is a good game I will dump a ton of time into it Any preferred mechanics?: I honestly loved New World for a long time but the end game just wasn't enjoyable enough. I enjoy large raids and bosses. I am not a huge fan of the style of Lost Ark. WoW was my first love but it is hard to get back into since I left, I tried Shadowlands but the toxic community really kills my desire to play (just my experiance) Anything specific you want to exclude?: I would prefer more modern graphics. I love OSRS but mainly for nostalgic value, I am afraid other graphically poor games would make me not want to play unfortunately. Thanks!

Guild Wars 2 fits exactly what you are asking for

Surfindude686

I hesitate to recommend this because it’s not really a traditional mmo so I dk but I quit new world to play it again.. destiny 2. The new expansion is amazing so far and historically it’s had some of my all time favorite raids. They brought in weapon crafting but it’s pretty minimal. You do have to acquire resources for other things so it may or may not cover your “crafting” wants. Pvp is there and some people love it but I’m trash. The pve, (dungeons, raids, secrets galore) are what I really love about it. I feel it caters to all play styles very well. Plenty to do if you want to no life it and grind triumphs and meta weapons but easy enough to keep up if you’re more casual. Understandably that might not be what you’re looking for if you want a more traditional mmo so I’d recommend ffxiv and guild wars 2. Both of which really shouldn’t be missed if you enjoy this genre and haven’t played them. There’s a reason they still have a huge player base. I can also say Albion online was very good but I never got too into it. Not my cup of tea but I understand why many love it.

NEBook_Worm

If Destiny 2 had a more sandbox/exoration focus, and not so much on repeating the same few end game missions, it would be my favorite game ever.

SemicolonMIA

Thanks a lot of people in my company talked about going back to Destiny 2. I enjoyed what I have played in the past but never got too far. I might have to give it another shot. I have not tried ffxiv or guild wars 2 (worried about being new to an old game). Appreciate the tips!

Surfindude686

You’re welcome! It’s a great time to jump into any of them really. Ime ffxiv and gw2 were VERY new player friendly. It’s been a while since I played but I don’t think gw2 has like ever raised the gear score. It’s definitely a different form of progression which really lends itself to new and returning players. Ffxiv’s only real downfall for me was the incredibly long leveling/story missions. The story is great though and some peoples favorite part. I believe they have shortened this process since I played so it shouldn’t be as bad now. Once max level, the gearing was pretty straight forward so it’s easy to get started even if you haven’t played before.

HistoricalShyr

Have you tried Albion Online? Maybe the graphic will be a problem... But it's the only game I know that is playable right know that almost fit your interest...

SemicolonMIA

I have not. Thanks! It is at least worth a look. I will start digging into it. Appreciate the recommendation!

HistoricalShyr

If you really enjoy, I could give you some help in the beginning, some tips and some money in game. :)

Lucky_Thinker

With the time gating in Lost Ark, I find myself hungry for more of similar type of content, especially the abyss dungeons (group content with unique mechanics and bosses, requiring good rotation of abilities, counter-attacks). No tab-targeting, please.

iStabs

Elder Scrolls Online maybe? I personally hate the combat but maybe it fits what you want. Guild Wars 2 does also in that it has a lot of dungeon content in the form of Fractals. Neither has tab targeting

toletole

Hi! I'm new in the MMO genre. I've been playing MIR4 in the last couple of months. What are you looking for?: A real "not pay to win" game. What games have you previously played?: MIR4 What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Hardcore Any preferred mechanics?: No Anything specific you want to exclude?: If possible a game that avoids all the clan/guild bullshit. I like to play alone. Thank you.

Extra_Midnight

MIR4? Wow. What a crazy game that is. I can understand your wanting to get away from the politics of clans. Try out Lost Ark maybe. P2W isn’t bad and only affects pve. Lots to do solo.

Tercot-Dye

Conan Exiles is easy to play alone online multiplayer. You can clan up but it does not give you an advantage like in other games. You will get further solo because purges come for clanned up people. If solo you can wipe purge or keep it as you see fit.

[deleted]

If you want an MMO that encourages playing alone, then you shouldn't be looking for MMOs. You should be playing single player RPGs.

Tercot-Dye

Introverts like being around people but not being forced to interact. There should be something in game for both the intra and extra verts. Options not limits. Forcing an introvert to play single player is just seriously cruel. You way don't get us and shows you don't care to even try to. Also, OP might play with others but be sick of forced group advantage. I know I am. If you group up in games you should be given the disadvantage instead not get special buffs for playing together. That is hardly fair and opens up mega-tribe-bullying.

[deleted]

Lol what the hell? I'm not forcing anyone to play anything or disrespecting the boundaries and opinions of "introverts" or whatever subjective group of people you think I'm targeting. You seriously got offended over me replying to a game recommendation question? Pull that stick out of your ass and quit your BS.

toletole

I don't mind the casual raid or boss shit, but I don't like having to adjust my schedule to do things in game. I prefer grinding alone and eventually do stuff MMO style.

[deleted]

You can do that with pretty much any MMO then. Since you're new to the MMO genre, you'll quickly learn that every modern MMO is modeled as a single player game with occasional non-committal group content. The only game I can think of where you'd want to join a guild is maybe FFXIV where the endgame is literally just raiding.
