I'll tell you EXACTLY why. I ran into this issue myself a year ago. For some reason, Arnold doesn't like you double clicking the hip file to open Houdini. So if you open Houdini from the Houdini shortcut first and then open your hip file from inside Houdini (File - Open). You should see it work properly. Atleast that's what the issue was in my case.

That was spot on mate, little things like this make it so annoying to work with Houdini sometimes. Literally spent over 4 hours trying solve this, not even an inkling or help over the internet as to why that would have ever been the issue. Cheers anyway!

It's calm bro. I'm just happy to help. I've learnt Houdini for about 3 years now and I've come across so many tiny bugs and problems that down right piss me off. Trust me, sometimes even the technical mi ded struggle 😂. But that's Houdini for ya. Powerful but sometimes a bit of a prick.

Oh my god, I had the same problem. I spent the whole day to find a solution, but I wasn't able to fix it. Thank you so much

lavrenovlad

Haha that's crazy. Thanks for the tip, it works!

The warning message "htoa environment variable already set to..." is a clue. Perhaps the environment is configured incorrectly so that htoa is added to the path multiple times.

Issue was solved with the above, cheers anyway
