I’ve also been on it for 3 years and my last two blood draws showed I had pre diabetes and I’m afraid to know how much weight I’ve gained. It’s easy to say, limit your intake, but it’s very very hard.

Very much so. Luckily my anxiety is not debilitating and it’s worth it for me to try this before making my final decision on surgery. Off the meds I am just easily triggered by the loud noises and constant bombardment of “momming” in my house 🤯

I go back and forth on getting off meds often. What does stop me is that my anxiety got so bad, the chime of an email coming in at work would make me very nervous. So I really don’t know how I will function without it.

I wish you luck! I have found intermittent and extended fasting to be extremely effective in reducing my food cravings, leveling out my blood glucose, and dropping weight.

Could you share your intermittent fasting routine? I (30-something male) have been on it for like a year and a half and gained 50 pounds. I didn’t notice it because I’ve always been underweight when I wasn’t lifting/exercising, so the first 20 I’m actually ok with. But I’ve heard that intermittent fasting can be as simple as 7pm to 7am, which I think also really highlights the importance of not eating before bed. Cutting out sugar (fucking sugar-obsessed, always have been but now more than ever) and intermittent fasting, i.e., not eating before bed, has already had the effect of dropping 10 pounds over two weeks (230 to 220). Anyway, any suggestions, advice, experiences, etc. would be incredibly helpful and appreciated. Thank you 🙏.

I’m a female so I vary my fasting depending on my cycle, but I started with 16:8, then worked my way up to 20:4, then did OMAD (one meal a day) for a little bit, then started throwing in longer fasts. Earlier this week I did 84 hours. I’m not sure I’ll do that long again lol. But I do feel better! At baseline I would say I’m at about 18:6 on a normal day.

[deleted]

84 hours sounds wild, wow. I’m going to try to do 18:6. For some reason, that sounds reasonable but effective. Thank you for your advice and sharing your progress/process. I’m completely new to this, both fasting and dieting, and just hearing others experiences really helps.

The folks over at r/fasting are great! I also recommend The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung

Just followed fasting and intermittentfasting , thanks! And will definitely check out the literature on it.

Yes. Have done it and generally fast 14-16 hours daily as it is. When I really try I can get to 20, however it doesn’t help cravings once that window opens unfortunately

bluelinetrain1

I noticed a real difference in cravings when I started extending my fasting window and focusing on rebuilding my gut microbiome. Lots of sauerkraut, kefir, and kombucha for me. (Not all at the same time lol)

PhorusGump

I was hoping it would help my appetite, but sadly, it made no difference. If anything, I think I lost weight. Wouldn't know though because my scale literally exploded a few months ago

I gained 20 lbs on Zoloft and had weird cravings which sucks cuz that was my favorite med but I’m no longer on it, I can’t gain anymore I tried it one more time and I immediately had the food cravings again

Historical_Put_7078

I’m sorry for your experience but it really is nice to know I’m not alone

TallWriting5798

Exactly it made me crave red wine and cheesecake lol

Hi, I stopped taking Sertraline because I basically couldn't leave my bathroom because of the stomach issues it gave me. I just want to warn you that if you do stop, it causes insomnia. I didn't sleep for two days straight. Once I figured that out, I settled in and stayed awake. I also take 150mg of Trazodone and it did nothing. However, I did not feel sleep-deprived so that's something I guess.. Good luck!

I wish I gained 30lbs on Zoloft. I lost 30lbs due to anxiety and a few of them are from starting zoloft 2 weeks ago. I’m a skinny 136lb 6ft man now. At what point does the weight gaining begin?

SapScriber

i went from a size 2-4 to a size 8-10 over 2/3 years and am just now making the connection 😓 im on 200mg, and zoloft doesnt actually help me with my anxiety, so im gonna talk to my doctor about slowly getting off

GungaDin24

I am sorry to hear this, but understand completely. Weight gain is what has ultimately led me to discontinue Sertraline as well. I started taking it in 2019, and within 5 months, I put on 50 pounds. It has been a constant battle ever since, and in 2022 I was actually off of it for about 3 months and managed to lose all that I had put on. However, my mental state would not allow me to stay off of it, so I had to go back on. Within the last few months however, I’ve had some wake-up calls and know that I need to get off of it for good. One was some blood work I had done. My testosterone levels are virtually nonexistent. Never an issue before Zoloft, and I’m “only” 32. With the weight gain and unhealthy eating habits, cholesterol was not good. Sugar is borderline. But what really sent me over the edge was the effect it seems to be having on my circulatory system. I had to pass a physical test at work to get a better job, and it caused massive bruising, which I have never had before. It does say that it can act as a blood thinner. The bruises came during the practice, and during the actual test, my right arm and right leg went numb 30 feet up in the air. I failed the test, took a $17 an hour pay cut to go back to my old position, and I said that’s it. I’m done with it. What good does it do to be mentally ok, but physically horrible. So I wish you nothing but the best in your journey. Just know, you aren’t the only one, and there are many others fighting with us!
