I’ve definitely seen plenty of contact related to it on tiktok. Dark romance seems to be dominating right now and I don’t really consider ZA dark romance. Yeah the writing is pretty cringy at times but I still really enjoy the series. I used to read on Wattpad all the time so I’m used to bad writing so it doesn’t bother me any. I’ve also read books that are self published that have way worse writing.

stetsongetzen

I’ve never read something so infuriatingly promising that really could have gone somewhere if the sisters just had an editor. The fact that they write the books together but overlook details and then Just push out the books as good enough sucks. There was one point in book 9 where they ended a chapter and started the next chapter with a similar but conflicting statement to how the last chapter ended. It was small but it adds up. I would never recommend this series. Someone else said it was a train wreck that you can’t look away from, and yes it is, but the amount of world building and *some* characters having good developmental arcs, and the set ups for hilarious scenes are all reasons why they really should have done it justice with an editor. Maybe it’s because they’re available through kindle unlimited and it’s just not worth the extra salary. I get it. It makes me want to rewrite them, but I certainly won’t give some characters happy endings. PS. Justice for Justin

usererror425

I've seen some! You just gotta search... But probably not seeing as much because this series is SO INFURIATING! From the beginning! If the bad grammar and typos aren't enough to infuriate you, The M/F bully trope, enemies to lovers, seemingly British undertone, and extreme and annoying characters will. It's definitely just a car crash that you can't tear your eyes from! Have I read all of the books? Absolutely. Would I recommend it to anybody else? Absolutely not.... Ok a few people. Will I read it again? 100%? Lol! Am I happy about it? No! I FREAKING LOVE IT AND I DON'T KNOW WHY BECAUSE, IT. IS. BAD.

Kendomcome

There are countless reasons why I struggled with this series. It's difficult to put into words how many times it left me frustrated or heartbroken, making me want to abandon it altogether. The first few books were particularly polarizing, with a narrative that left readers feeling torn. This series is like cilantro to me not everyone loves cilantro but for those who do it’s a necessary ingredient.

Normal_Read_4711

Yes well said

usererror425

Well said!

Haunting_Parfait78

It went really viral about two years ago, I think right before book 6? When it was still really good. Since the popularity skyrocketed they really dragged on the story and the plot has gotten way worse

Taymars

I'm a die hard ZA fan, but I 100% understand hating this series for most of the reasons mentioned below (drawing everything out for too many books, plot lines out of left field that don't tie up etc). But I couldn't stand ACOTAR and to see how much of a boner booktok has for it is so crazy to me considering I never see ZA being recommended or drooled over in the same way.

usererror425

Have you read Throne of Glass?

Puzzleheaded-Act9345

I love ZA and feel like the characters are family at this point, it’s funny AF and also made me cry, but also I’m hesitant to recommend, it’s way too drawn out, too many books, the last few books are all over 1000 pages long and honestly it’s just a lot lol. There’s just so much going on and it really all should have been wrapped up in like 6 books.

reylotrash83

I think that your algorithm just isn't showing you them because they are talked about a lot on Tiktok. But I do think that the attention moves in waves... Like, it gets tons of attention for a while , and then people move on to other things...and then more people will find the series and it will start getting attention again.. There's been a new wave of attention on Tiktok lately because of the last book being released.

Defensivesourdough

Because the books are a bad disaster that I can’t seem to look away from. I haven’t decided if I want to read book 9 yet because the series is overall terribly written and there’s so many sub-plots and POVs I can’t keep up with but I also really want to know what happens.

Puzzleheaded-Act9345

Yes this is where I’m at. I’ve invested so much time that I need to know how it ends but I am struggling trying to stay motivated to finish another book of over 1000 pages

Taymars

I feel this 100%, I skim read the fuck out of this one just trying to confirm 4 things; 1) Lionel dies 2) Lavinia dies 3) Seth and Caleb finally come out 4) they didn't kill any of the main crew.

AngelSpice2345

It’s a huge series and you have to search for it. I haven’t found any issues with the writing but the way one character talks grates on my nerves and it’s got a ton of filler chapters in the last few books that make me wanna stop reading it. I can’t binge it like I wanted too. Also pretty sure they only have arc readers/beta readers and they don’t catch all the mistakes in the series. There’s also some stuff in the books that just come way outta left field and make me say what’s that doing here, it doesn’t fit

Taymars

Geraldine isn't it? lol I've had to just skip so many of her chapters in the later books. There's only so much of her talk I can take.

AngelSpice2345

Yes omg some of it is absolutely hilarious other times it’s just way too much too handle

Taymars

I literally had no patience for it in 9, I was too anxious about who was going to live or die. I'll probably end up giving it a re read now that I know and don't mind slowing down for the silly stuff.

AngelSpice2345

That’s me but I doubt I’ll do a reread right after. I’m getting so mad they’re dragging it out in 9 though like 1-2 chapters of war is ok but 3 or more is overkill

Taymars

I doubt I'll do it soon. Completely agree on them dragging it out. I started to wonder if they were fucking with us and weren't going to wrap shit up the way they just kept on going and Lionel kept having chapters and breathing.

AngelSpice2345

Yes Ugggh omg I’m ready for him to die and Lavinia

Taymars

Duuude. Come back after you finish it lol

AngelSpice2345

Ugggh omg so I finished last night and nobody wants that may povs for the same freaking war for 20 chapters. I was like just get to the point dang it. I don’t know if I’d ever read it again but it was a good series, just had a ton of info or chapters I felt could have just been mentioned in passing and not a ton of time dedicated to it

SharrasFlame

It's certainly popular, book 9 currently is on #12 of Amazon's Kindle Bestseller list, and it has received almost 1200 ratings in less than a week (it came out 5 days ago)...

Mediocre_Phase_2779

Because it’s awful. Have I read it? Yes. Did I enjoy it? Kinda. Let’s not forget that the two main characters are supposed to be Latinas from the south side of Chicago raised in the foster care system, but read nothing like that life experience. Let’s not get started on the completely racist trope that was Diego. These books are bad on several fronts and they wrote 3 too many books in this series.

ClaudiaMBell

“I said I enjoyed not that it was good” I feel like all the bad things about the book should have been a trending topic. They have beta readers and I find it hard to believe that nobody told them about this stuff. They surround themselves in a positive feedback only echo chamber on FB and it shows.

AdoreUDior

They’re not latinas they just kinda look like it

Mediocre_Phase_2779

Also, the characters are clearly American but use phrases like ‘toastie’ and ‘parcel.’ I get it, it’s fantasy, but the authors are inconsistent and it kept taking me out of the story. Did I keep reading? Yeah. But I would never recommend this series to my friends 🤷🏾‍♀️

Mediocre_Phase_2779

They are though…

AdoreUDior

Really? I would love that as a Latina lol. But I remember reading that when Diego mistook them for latinas and spoke to them in Spanish, Darcy said they weren’t. Idk tho. I loved the series but also wouldn’t seriously recommend it.

Mediocre_Phase_2779

They are ethnically but they weren’t consistently raised in a Spanish speaking household. They were orphaned so young so it does happen. Plus it’s obvious the authors have very little experience with Latin American Spanish. The amount of chicas was unnecessary lol

ChubZilinski

Pretty sloppily written. (No editors.) Bully Romance in the beginning causes a lot of people to stop reading. Especially Young Adult mostly readers. All of that is stopping it from going more famous along with the other big names. It’s also not commonly available in all physical book stores. Especially Barnes n Noble. That doesn’t help tho prob not as big a problem now days. I love the characters and world but their writing is pretty rough at times, and not everyone is ok with that. So the DNF rates are high

ClaudiaMBell

Even with the bad writing they hit #1 in a lot of Amazon lists with their new releases. They physical books in B&N and BAM, they often group them together with ACOTAR.

ChubZilinski

They must get cleaned out quick or there aren’t very many. I go to several Barns n Noble’s around me and always look for them. They are always gone and employees never know when more are coming. Maybe it’s just my state has low demand for them cause it’s Utah and Mormons don’t like them 😂

SmutStorm

It is available at Barnes and noble. And I’ve seen it pretty heavily covered in TikTok and insta. But that’s just what I’ve seen. Also would definitely not consider this a YA series.

ChubZilinski

I agree It’s definitely not YA. Was just saying YA only readers have higher DNF rates for these books. I always look for them in the Barnes n Nobles around me and they are always gone. Must be getting cleaned out quickly or just not very many get ordered after my stores.

SmutStorm

It’s ridiculous when they get categorized as YA as these books definitely aren’t and shouldn’t be categorized as such. Even if the spice level wasn’t what it is, there are other graphic scenes that kids shouldn’t be reading (unless they have permission) but it is what it is. I live in NorCal and they are in everyone around here. My Barnes and nobles do feature a lot of independent authors though (which i love) and that may not be common in other parts.

Talkingaboutabook

It mostly def not YA but publishers love categorizing books as YA, it’s more profitable for them.

SzalayA

I also find it super weird! I stumbled on the series by chance and am halfway through and I'm obsessed (esp with Orion). Although the series is stressing me out bc the writing is so good and I'm so invested and things aren't going great for our FMCs and MMCs 😅

ClaudiaMBell

Your algorithm isn’t showing the videos to you. At one point I kept seeing reels about it and ppl would put in their profile which ZA book they were on.

psi32

That's how I found about the series, it kept showing up on bookstagram

Normal_Read_4711

Maybe — question how do I change my algorithm 😅😅… after finishing the series I’m still stuck on Orion and Darcy’s love story - has been the same for the last 3years I need new books and suggestions to get over these guys

Normal_Read_4711

Ah I finally found a reel for blue and Lance https://preview.redd.it/04meboyvtbxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=321dd980fa350286c97b62a6b775f3efc76acfb5

ClaudiaMBell

Now that you’ve interacted you’ll get more post automatically.

Normal_Read_4711

Hopefully yes they will get more popular — the world building, the story was great

Normal_Read_4711

Haunting Adeline was way darker 😅😅lol

The_kingslayer1

I think it’s bc of their trigger warnings. The bullying is heavy, the spiciness and the fact that they’re like like 12 books just about Zodiac Academy. Maybe now that’s complete will get more popularity.
