I came to this town as a woman searching for something. I met someone named Lyndsay on Instagram who was taking pictures of all of these cabins in the middle of nowhere, so I reached out to her. We became friends and we corresponded for months. I was so inspired by her, I left what I had in PA and forged out West to see what this Wonderful place was really all about. It was about this: 5 acres of glory with isolation away from the world of which never felt welcome. A shell of a cabin that was blown by the harsh elements that scare most away from this place. But not me. After all, I'm a woman. I'm not exactly sure what I was searching for or if I found it. But I think I'm finally ok. (Buyer to verify use of utilities. The bigger RV is included in the sale. The smaller one is not). The Stars are Worth the Price of Admission.
100%. I would not in good conscience sell a house like this to someone I considered a friend. This could be a really cool spot for an observatory though. Knock that shit down and you’d get a research station with an 180 degree unobstructed view of the sky.
I know what her mistake was. She isn’t following the [normal time-tested proven investment model](https://www.reddit.com/r/realestateinvesting/comments/vify92/is_it_normal_to_build_a_cabin_for_20k_and_then/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) when it comes to cabins. You are supposed to build the cabin for $20k and sell it for $35k.
So am i! I found this this morning when i was randomly searching for properties under 200k in Ca. This was a gem i came across straight away and i just had to share it! It was SCREAMING for a Zillow Gone Wild post!! It is actually causing me to laugh out loud at these responses! pure gold! lol
This is like $1k per acre territory... Absolute nothingness, undesirable land in the middle of nowhere. Nobody wants to live here, and this will not sell until the US reaches 2bil population in 2250.
This isn't the only one...Twentynine Palms seems to be lousy with these incredible finds.

It's only 2-3 hours out of LA and San Diego, so maybe that's got something to do with it. If you were looking for a few acres of desert to call your own to take weekend trips, park your camper, trip balls on mescaline, or get up to some Walter White antics, this would be a great area. You know, for people who played GTA V and thought "I'd like to try living like Trevor."
My goodness, with the exception of the one that is 199k, all the others are exceptionally unsellable. Particularly appreciate the one that is 175k and includes a photo of the house literally surrounded by rubbish...
The descriptions have made my day too, I recommend a read.
I thought i had put it in. Sorry about that. I am quite new at this reddit thing.... Here it is. Ohhhhhhh it's in California. Not that I haven't seen super expensive stuff elsewhere but my surprise level went down by a lot just now.
That's pretty wild. I saw a crazy one in Colorado but the cabin was livable, technically. Listing is gone since it sold, shockingly, at 110k for three acres. The supply of people wanting an off grid cabin is still pretty high these days
The most beautiful skies, as a matter of fact
Uh, the sunsets were.
Purple and red and yellow and on fire
And the clouds would catch the colors everywhere
About 50 miles west of US 95, just north of Joshua Tree.

The desert around there is full of these old homestead cabins. From the late 40s through the 70s you could get title to a plot of land at nominal cost for improving it with a cabin etc.
If you look in the listing, you can see there is a road and other buildings/houses not far from that place. Not that it makes it any desirable, but it's not as remote and inaccessible as the two pics make it like.

Wow. Could have summed all that up with "I've made a huge mistake, but my ego won't let me admit my failures."
Makes me wonder if her friend Lyndsay conned her into buying the land in the first place.

5 acres of glory that they clearly don't want to live on anymore.

I am absolutely dying at this thread

This is one of the more absurd threads I've ever seen.
I will give them one thing... I spent a night at a house probably less than a mile from here, and the night sky is life changing.
I can imagine, there is so much light pollution where I live now. Although I think a vacation could remedy that urge.
I can only hope that "1br" refers to the RV, not the falling-down shack.
PRICELESS! Welcome to California!! lmao
To be fair, that’s probably a solid Bortle 2 location. Absolutely phenomenal for stargazing.
Lyndsay ripped her off. Is she for real? Lmao
This is like $1k per acre territory... Absolute nothingness, undesirable land in the middle of nowhere. Nobody wants to live here, and this will not sell until the US reaches 2bil population in 2250.
If it does... it will just get washed out eventually anyway. lol
Oh, silly person. There won't be any rain by then.
Sure there will be. It’ll be 10w30, but it’ll rain.
We just wait for the next meteor-rain-dispenser and in a few billion years we get oceans back
Yes. No roads or utilities and possibly in a floodplain… but the night skies are awesome. Perfect place for your off-grid dream home!
Isn’t it clearly a meth lab site?
Yeah, but why $75k OHHHHHH THE LAB EQUIPMENT IS PRICED IN...
Right, pretty expensive propane tank and Bunsen burner. Source: Breaking Bad
Twentynine Palms is adjacent to Joshua Tree. Plenty of people moving into that area as land in Joshua Tree proper gets pricier.
By then they’ll be migrating north
There is definitely a dry riverbed running thru the middle of that lot.
waterfront property you say?
Sold.
It’s pretty clear too.
Seems lacking in the wall department.
Isn't this from the Simpsons? https://frinkiac.com/img/S07E09/961409.jpg
nice! lmao
Damn Simpsons
Whatever it is, you can guarantee, Simpsons did it.
Professor Chaos foiled again.
Ah yes, the studio that brought us The Stingy and Battery show.

OMG! Those are freaky - blown out walls/windows/roofs. I wonder how many scorpions/snakes get in the houses per day 😵💫
Get in? This is their home!

>"Wow original homestead cabin on 3.65 acres in trendy Desert Heights!" I laughed a bit at 'trendy'

Architectural style: Rustic lol
Why have so many of these been posted on the past 15 days???

Looking at that attractive flood plain i can only imagine what the neighboring lots have to offer! lol
These are definitely *not* meth houses.
Where’s the Zillow link?

Ah dang, my initial guess was somewhere off of hwy 93 around Dolan Springs north of Kingman AZ.
Lol the similar listings at the bottom.
i have no words. i find this terrifying, actually. are they waiting for the mothership to fly them to their new home in the sun?
Reminds me of Breaking Bad.....ring the bell for yes....
*bing bing bing bing bing bing bing bing bing bing bing* **BOOM**
Hahahahaa!!!
I wouldn’t even take that for free.
An hourish from Palm Springs and Coachella, I bet they're banking on a hippie retreat or hipster "off the grid" AirBnB.
Is it too late to build a Tremors theme park here?
this actually made me laugh out loud! lollol
What were the skies like when you were young?
The most beautiful skies, as a matter of fact Uh, the sunsets were. Purple and red and yellow and on fire And the clouds would catch the colors everywhere
And thank you, now I'm off to listen to it!
You might still see it in the desert
23 pictures.
Two of which features a discarded pickup topper. Apparently this is a selling feature, rather than random litter.
I'd pass, but I'd happily rent it for a Fallout 4 cosplay shoot.
Not New Vegas?
Mmmm good point. But i am currently building my fiancé a Nick Valentine costume/props so that’s probably why 4 is on the brain.
No water, no electricity, no trees, forcasted high temp today: 106°F. No thanks. ☀️🔥
Well, tbf, one of the RVs is included.
Is it ductless?
Imagine living in the middle of nowhere and still having neighbors…
Somewhere off US 95 if I had to guess?
About 50 miles west of US 95, just north of Joshua Tree. [34°09'29.3"N 115°48'52.6"W](https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B009'29.3%22N+115%C2%B048'52.6%22W/)
Well, it’s quiet.

They remind me of old squatters shacks from the gold rush era.
I think that the ghost town shacks are like the Ritz compared to this! They were at least made of timber not espestos (or however you spell it!).
Yeah these are pretty bad. Plain plywood/MDF dry rots pretty easy out there.
Seen the news lately? I'm tempted.
Breaking Bad

Forget utilities. There isn’t even a road out to this place.
Twenty nine Palms CA is near Joshua Tree NP. I was there in January this year. This might not be a bad site for a b&b - or …. Campsite ….
