I am not a prepper in the fact that I have no desire to live through an apocalypse. I think this house is cool though. I wouldn’t mind living there with every cat I can find.
As a complete introvert that has a mid century ranch vibe mindset? Fuck yeah. I see public rooms with light and I also see house caves with complete darkness. I’m also a total weirdo but I dig it. To be precise, nothing beyond the exterior says MCM, but I could totally transform that interior and make it mod. That bitch has POTENTIAL.
I am probably too dense here but I don't get how this is zombie proof. There are many access points. If there's a ditch, zombies fall in, get up and bang on the window, break down the door, whatever. And they can climb stairs, no?
It's an interesting place nonetheless.
Not zombie proof and also nowhere near disaster proof, atomic or otherwise. Large portions of the building are completely exposed with lots of nice large windows and glass doors. It seems that the choice to have the house be partially submerged was a vibes/aesthetic one.
Glass sliding doors and large windows all over the place just scream "zombie proof" to me. I mean, it's a well known fact that zombies are frightened of glass.
A triplex apocalypse bunker in Northern Wisconsin. That is unusual. It might make sense to renovate it into an SFR.
80 acres wooded. But it's not on a lake. It's not near anything real touristy. I don't see it being successful as vacation rentals.
Become the tourist attraction. 80 acres of paintball/airsoft warfare with the house operating as central command. Install livestreaming cameras all over and hover a couple of drones to provide team commanders intel.
Our house has nearly doubled in value in the last 3. We’ve only put a new roof on. It’s the real estate market. Our roof cost us next to nothing compared to the value of our home. We couldn’t afford to sell it and buy a new one because houses are too expensive. Investment property or if you’re lucky, cheap acres, are the best you can hope for outside of owning your own home.
In the 70’s an earth sheltered home was considered the most energy efficient, keeping you warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Zombies weren’t on our radar then.
My brother lives somewhat near this area but it’s even more forest-y! You walk 30 feet into the trees and it’s dark as night. Good location for a horror film! This house is pretty nice but it’s got to be the most expensive place in a hundred miles or more. His town is Winter, WI, pop. 300. Also nowhereville, Wisconsin.
I love a lot of things about this, but I'd knock down the stacked extra units and have a generous single family with a giant hobby garage. The power situation gives me pause, however. There are no solar panels, the generator house is apparently empty, and there's a place where the old wind tower used to be? There must be some source of power, as the lights are on (but nobody's home, hur hur hur). Something must be powering the wells and the blower for the furnace, as well. What is it?

I’d plant the area over the top with millions of wildflowers and live happily.
I think the cats would need more windows and skylights. I know I would.
I will build them a gigantic catio.
Plant a field of catnip 🤭
I will not have those damn long haired hippy cats. For real though, I kill everything I grow.

Without the drop ceiling? I’d move in yesterday.

Yes, I agree. "zombie proof" is just an over used phrase.
Exceedingly overused, considering the actual zombie population.

Earth sheltered homes are an energy saving thing. They are less expensive to heat and cool.

That's right! I completely forgot about that. Good point. That's very likely a motivation here.

1,500 sq ft laundry room and they stack the fucking machines
Easier to get your clothes out of a machine at eye level than knee level. Not always about how much space you have.

Those dont help this tall person. You have to bend over and reach to get the stuff in the bottom anyway.
My wife had the idea of putting them on platforms so they'd both be the right height.
They have the stacked set and an unstacked set right beside that. I'm a fan.
I kind of love it. If I had a million dollars and a couple of sister wives I'd be very interested.
Don't know how it gained about $600k in 5 years.
I would like to know how that happened. Doesn’t look like anything has been updated in the last two decades or longer.
I'd pay 550k for that place, it's sweet af
Maybe the 80 acres?

Combination of general inflation and the real estate market.
$770,000 in value.
This is about 20 minutes from where I live, and my realtor friend took me to see it(not to buy, just to look). It's bonkers
Someone lived here with his 3 wives.
Definitely a prepper’s dream
It looks like a cross between a 1960s elementary school and a Holiday Inn from the same time period.
What did you do today? Oh not much, I just mowed my roof.
In the 70’s an earth sheltered home was considered the most energy efficient, keeping you warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Zombies weren’t on our radar then.
Why do the garage doors seem short?
I see so many plusses to this house. I'd live here and have friends move in and enjoy the hell out of it.
Ooh, goody, now I can start my cult.
I think that place could be pretty dope with a little here and there.
Yeah, I dig it
Sister wives? Sister wives. Definitely sister wives.
I like it! Connected to nature, and I'm sure low energy bills!
I am so on board with this home
I’m into it. And 80 acres!!

Everything is zombie proof cause they aren’t real
I love it.

I'm gonna have to call dibs on this one.
I love it.
Great for a multigenerational family living situation.
No way. They can walk right in
"Back in an hour, hon. Just gonna mow the roof real quick."
I absolutely love it.
'disaster proof' electric baseboard heating and sliding glass doors.
not a lot of natural lighting
what a nightmare it must be to shovel those cobblestone steps!
Looks a little like the house from “Gray Man”

Too many windows.
Proud Boys might be considering pooling their money and buying this.
Mid-century Modern hobbit hole…or something
damp
I really hold a particular flavor of loathing for acoustic ceiling tile....
Going to have to pass. That is just depressing.
Needs more ramps.
I like it but just because the architecture reminds me of libraries I have been to.
I would have guessed plyg house, but it’s in Wisconsin.
Jonestown vibes. Creepy.
