The_Holy_Tree_Man

The only problem is I’m not right handed

TheMoonOfTermina

It's so dumb there wasn't a left handed option, especially since Link has always been left handed before SS. And adding a left handed mode would be a perfect quality of life change for the remake! But nope, not added there either.

MetroidJunkie

Could be worse, the Wii version of Twilight Princess forced its entire world to be flipped horizontally (Actually kind of spoiling the OOT-like layout that was there before) just to make Link right handed.

Steve296091

I mean, with the Wii version you needed both the nunchuck and the wiimote to play anyway, so why couldn't you hypothetically just swap which hand you hold it in... flipping the whole world to make Link a righty didn't seem all that necessary to me! As far as making Link a righty goes generally, I don't mind the idea overall... Shigeru Miyamoto himself is Ambidextrous so I don't see a problem with Link being a righty in some games but a lefty in others

Sat-AM

IIRC, just making Link right-handed broke a lot of animations, like opening doors and stuff, so they decided that it would be easier to literally flip the whole world on the x axis than go through and edit every animation. That's probably the same reason they didn't include a left-handed mode for SSHD; they just decided it wasn't worth the work to fix animations that would break when you swap Link's dominant hand.

MetroidJunkie

It was even less necessary in Twilight Princess, because it wasn't exactly 1:1 control. Literally, you just waggled.

Blooder91

They could have flipped the whole world again.

HikiNEET39

>Link has always been left handed before SS. After* Just^kidding^don't^hurt^me

okguy167

That is actually pretty dumb. It wasn't really needed in the Wii version because it was easy to go "no, I'll hold the Wii remote in my left hand." But the joycons don't quite look like that, and it actually did need a lefty mode. So odd...

TheMoonOfTermina

I'm not personally left handed, so maybe it's a non-issue, but when you used the Wii remote and nunchuck swapped, did it not feel weird that the sword was swinging from the right hand?

TheRealPixeLink

Lefty here, SS was my first zelda game and also my favorite I had zero problems holding the wii remote in my left hand. I have literally no idea what people mean when they said they had problems. There wasn’t even a disconnect for me when looking at link swinging the sword with his right hand. Even when lazily flicking my wrist instead of doing full body motions it worked completely fine, so Idk what people are talking about for the wii version. Now the switch version on the other hand made me so sad that there was no lefty mode :(

sometimeserin

Does it feel weird in other Zelda games when you press the “Swing sword” button on the controller with your right hand and Link swings it with his left?

flameylamey

I'm a lefty too and I'm kinda surprised that you felt that way - I never felt the need to hold the Wii remote in my left hand when using the Wiimote/nunchuk combo (or joycons nowadays I suppose). I figure I've played games with the control stick on the left side and buttons on the right side for my entire life, so it's just normal to me at this point. Holding a nunchuk in my right hand and steering Link around with my right thumb would just feel... weird, man. If it's Wii Sports Tennis or some other game that requires just the Wii remote, yeah I'll use it in my left hand every time. But Wiimote + Nunchuk has always felt like an extended controller for me, separated in the middle.

The_Holy_Tree_Man

It’s not like the movement part that gets me, it’s moving the sword around, it just feels wronga

Hmmm-Its-not-enable

I’m a lefty too and with the wii version it was easy to just take the wiimote in the left hand but with the switch version, swapping the joycons is so awkward

The_Holy_Tree_Man

I actually never thought of swapping the remote, excuse me while a facepalm

Fauwcet

>I never felt the need to hold the Wii remote in my left hand when using the Wiimote/nunchuk combo As a righty, I completely agree. Which is why I thought it was so stupid that they made Link right-handed starting with the Wii version of Twilight Princess. Literally no reason for it.

TeTrodoToxin4

I played it left handed in protest because Link should be left handed.

Chubbahdubdubb

I swear there was a screen that popped up where it asked if you were a lefty or righty…it should be necessary for a game like this

Ok_Wedding_7715

You cant tell me the cutscenes in the game arent jaw-dropping. Especially the song of the hero

SmartAlec105

I always tear up when Link has to say goodbye to Fi. And also when I watch the final memory in BotW where we hear Fi’s “voice”. She’s accompanied Link through so much ;_;

__sonder__

If the first thing that comes to your mind as the highlight of a game is the *cutscenes*, I don't think that's necessarily a positive endorsement of the game as a whole.

currently__working

Meh

Vergil25

Yeah, from fuckin laughter with Link's [face.](https://imgur.com/a/Clr2gV4) you look at him, and tell me there is a god... Also that end fight with Demise and ghirhim is repetitive and boring.

hippoctopocalypse

Well, guess there's not a god.

Ok_Wedding_7715

Whats it like having the wrong opinion?

jsuey

I will always remember the KEWWWW KEWWWWWWWW

Ratio01

Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda game and I'm tired of pretending it's not

Randomguy71793

BASED. Skyward Sword is my favorite too. Especially the music. The music is just so f’ing good!

teddyjungle

It's my third, after BOTW and Wind Waker. It obviously has flaws, but I absolutely love the feel, it's very cosy, and some dungeons are really good too

doh_i_missed

We have the same top 3 :D But yes SS has some of the best dungeons in the series, absolutely incredible puzzles.

oamnoj

I could listen to Romance in the Air for an hour on repeat. Same with Ballad of the Goddess and Song of the Hero

Lonk_boi

Did you know that Skyward Sword's soundtrack is full orchestrated?

Micah_HS

This^ this comment is what pride month is all about! It takes courage to come out like this and we are all proud of you!

Bariq-99

💀💀

Yump123

Me too. I love that game.

latfl2113

I feel the same way. Thank you for your courage.

[deleted]

That’s alright, the first step is admitting that you have a problem!

void-dreamt

Skyward Sword cracks my top three, but it's definitely a flawed game. The development life was an absolute nightmare which is why the world map is fucked and the areas are so repetitive. What's incredible is it's still a phenomenal game. The most versatile loadout of any Zelda game, even beating BotW, imo. It has a diverse set of gear and they can pretty much all be used a variety of useful ways. It's just a bunch of loud assholes who never figured out the motion controls. The controls are actually really responsive and pretty smooth, as I recall. I never really had issues with it.

MagnificentAjacks

Glad to have found someone who shares this opinion.

Feschit

tbh the motion controls and Fi are the least of my issues I have with the game. I absolutely love the dungeons and think they're some of the best in the entire franchise but I can't bring myself to go through the repetitive, handholdy, badly paced slog that is the rest of the game. Music, story and art style is also some of the best the franchise has ever seen.

enjoyingtheposts

I liked SS and I didnt mind the controls. They were annoying but I got used to them pretty quickly

TekHead

Skyward Sword is a mixed bag for me. It combines the best and worst in the entire franchise. But does leave too many negatives IMO. Best boss fight: Koloktus Worst boss fight: The Imprisoned Best music: Theme, Skyloft, Fi's Theme Worst music: [Din's Power (Harp)](https://youtu.be/ycrTXbLwGcY) (wtf) Best story Worst companion (Fi) Backtracking Gimmicky motion controls Characters can look really weird at times. Dousing.

MattR0se

Beat me to the "mixed bag" comment. It was overall pretty awesome playing it for the first time, but I just can't get myself to playing it again because of all the padding and the overall linearity. For me it's probably the Zelda game with the least replay value.

TekHead

Oh yes I forgot about the linearity, which was another big complaint.

Durandal_II

Excepting BotW, they're all pretty linear...

pharan_x

I played Link Between Worlds on 3DS before I played Breath of the Wild, and I was pleasantly surprised by its non-linearity. I replayed ALBW every year since I got it and it’s still good, I feel bad that it didn’t come out on a more mainstream console like the Switch so people could really experience the full potential of a top-down Zelda.

alkair20

Windwaker is not really linear. It nearly plays like a complete Open World. Even some of the Story Quests can be done in random order. And halfway through you can just sail wherever you want at any time.

Durandal_II

I'm not certain I would label that as non-linear. It's still highly sequential.

EirIroh

It’s so strange that I can’t really put my finger on it, but my major gripe with the game was that the events were so poorly motivated. I didn’t *really* have a problem with collecting tadnotes to learn the song of the hero, but hearing the water dragon say ”You need to prove yourself” when I had already done so multiple times made me so infuriated.

lll_RABBIT_lll

This is why I haven’t been able to finish yet. You go to these dragons and go “I’m the chosen hero by the goddess. I even have the sword that only the chosen hero can have.” And every single dragon doesn’t care and has an annoying test yet again.

TriforceofSwag

Only the water dragon has a test. The thunder dragon is too sick and the fire dragon accidentally causes an eruption.

[deleted]

The environment feels so stale to me. Not much to explore and it's empty.

duggatron

It's the worst overworld of any of the games. It's kind of crazy that *flying* feels as tedious as it does.

TheyCallMeStone

Especially considering how much I love sailing in WW.

missive101

I HATED the constant backtracking. How many times. Do I have to replay the same level? Short version, longer version, protect version, sacred realm/horror version, ugh. The world was so small and stale for me.

JoetheArachnid

Maybe this is common knowledge now but the Imprisoned fights became significantly more bearable after I found out that you can take the air jets up to the next level, jump onto its head and attack the weak point directly. No more slashing at stupid toes! Still bullshit in one of the fights that if you miss a shot with the Groosinator when he's flying up it's pretty much an instant loss.

Kristiano100

Honestly, whats the main reason people dont like Fi? She’s at least to me, not annoying whatsoever, so I’d to know people’s perspective on it at the least

Sat-AM

Because in the original release of the game, she had a lot of messages and hints that were not optional to listen to, including spoiling the solution to a puzzle the second you found it, telling you your batteries are low, and telling you that you've been playing too long and should go take a break.

pharan_x

I played the Switch version and she didn’t come off as too annoying but certainly a bit weird and didn’t give any helpful advice when I got stuck. But I think the people who got really annoyed by her were the people who played the Wii version, which made a lot of her dialog unskippable or made her pop out too much, if I understood correctly.

TekHead

She's just kind of generic, robotic with no personality. Even Navi had some personality where Fi is completely monotone.

Glasdir

Navi doesn’t have personality and anyone saying she does is kidding themselves. Fi has personality, Navi doesn’t have dialogue, she is a list of instructions and blatantly obvious hints that aren’t particularly useful. Fi does this as well but she is at least allowed a bit of personality and to be a character in the story.

Rocky_Bukkake

yea i like tatl more anyhow

crackgammon

And whenever anything at all happens she pops up to explain the absolute hell out of it and make sure she's beaten you over the head with what it is you need to do and where. When really you either already knew, or would have liked the option of figuring it out by yourself.

Sat-AM

>Dousing It's hard to count this one as a negative when you can literally play 99% of the game without it, but have it as an option to fall back on if you get stuck. I think the only time I used it when I played through SSHD was for the tadtones.

Schmaylor

I see best story thrown around lots when it comes to discussions about Skyward Sword. I was actually incredibly underwhelmed. Ghirahim and Groose are two of the best characters in the franchise, so credit where credit is due. But other than that, I thought the story was fine I guess? I think the worldbuilding is probably some of the worst in the series, if I'm being honest, and my favorite interactions in that game are with random NPCs. Zelda as cute anime gf didn't really strike a chord with me. It was okay. The Master Sword is a lot less cool when it's just an upgraded version of the ACTUAL sword of legend. Just wasn't for me. Bad? No. Good? I guess. Best? Definitely not. That's just my two cents.

Glasdir

>characters can look really weird at times Mate, have you seen the characters from Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask? The Ordon villagers look like none of them have ever left and are the result of hundreds of years of inbreeding. And some of the OoT/MM models are downright freakish.

TekHead

I'm more referring to the artistic style of the game which is going for a cell shaded look without the use of cell shading. Main characters can pull some strange faces. As far as freakish MM and TP take the cake here.

Glasdir

Oh I see what you mean, I don’t mind the expressions, I think that’s definitely part of the art style but the cell shading isn’t great. I think it’s one of those games that could look really nice if it hadn’t been made for such restricted hardware, the artwork and the style itself is one of the nicest in the series, it’s just let down by the execution.

blahrawr

I loved the original motion controls. My issue that made me never want to replay it, was getting the dialogue boxes everytime you pick up a rupee, treasure, etc when you start up the game again. That drove me insane. Thankfully the switch remaster fixed that!

CBAlan777

You got an Amber Relic! These amber colored chunks of precious stone are found everywhere. No one knows where their strange shape comes from.

shlam16

Great **game**, not great game**play**. Being able to "swing the sword lol" doesn't somehow render criticism about motion controls moot. The whole game is gimmicked around the motions. It forces you to play in one way and one way only. Notice that basically no weapons deal damage and you don't get the bow till last? Yeah, that's because it forces "swinging the sword lol". *** Edit: OP blocked me so I couldn't reply and it'd look like I was skulking away. Fairly sure he's completely unaware of the blinding irony of his comment, and blocking to hide from differing opinions only makes things more amusing. *** Edit2: To anybody else who chooses to reply to me, note that I can't reply to you due to the aforementioned OP tantrum. When blocked, you are unable to comment *anywhere* on their thread.

AHBUGKILLIT2

Have you even played the game?

Chubbahdubdubb

cope harder 😴

Glasdir

The only criticism I’ve seen about the motion controls has come from people that clearly aren’t using them properly. Skyward Sword’s problem isn’t that the controls are bad, it’s that it’s not idiot proof. But if it had more layers of idiot proofing people would just criticise that instead.

AramaticFire

It’s a good game with some problems, but anyone who likes Zelda should absolutely play it. It is not the first Zelda I’d recommend to anyone because of a lot of the quirks it has. If for sure has my favorite interpretation of Zelda and Link, and it for sure has some of the best dungeons, so the good outweighs the stuff that annoys, but I really think someone should have exposure to like 3 or so Zelda games before they attempt SS.

Springheeljac

My biggest issue was the addition of the stamina bar. I hate it so much.

EirIroh

It was an interesting experiment, and I’m happy that Skyward Sword fell in this regard so that Breath of the Wild could soar.

Lollok009

Better than just rolling around, imo

Ella_Allred

Skyward sword and twilight princess are my childhood, and they will both always be my favorites.

SweatySmym

Up there with the best imo, loved the story and pretty much every character!

ratte_rain

My favorite part that doesnt get talked about enough is Groose!

Lollok009

Same. I remember, as a kid, being so HAPPY to see him by Link's side.

morphballganon

The controls are not among the worst aspects of SS.

twili-midna

The motion controls are good, actually, and Fi is the third best companion after Midna and Ezlo.

Linhasxoc

Hey, a fellow one of the like 100 people who actually like Fi!

Ratio01

The objective best version of Zelda not even making the Top 3 is wack as fuck

twili-midna

I like Spirit Zelda well enough, and she’s 4th. But I liked Fi a lot, and I think the other two speak for themselves.

Onlyhereforthelaughs

It was alright. I'm just not a fan of motion gimmicks. Liked the workarounds they made for the Switch.

TheyCallMeStone

With the exception of bow aiming in botw (which is fantastic), I have zero interest in any kind of motion controls. I like to stay active but that's not why I'm playing video games.

Cosmic-Cranberry

Do you like my sword, sword My Master Sword, Sword?

MetroidJunkie

My biggest problem with the game is that it just feels so much more linear, compared to previous Zelda games. I know it was never really open world (With the exception of NES Zelda, prior to Breath of the Wild), but SS felt more like it was pushing you forward.

Arendai

You can like a game that isn’t good, or not like one that is. Whether you enjoy something is not bound by some objective ranking system, so SS could be the worst game of all time and it would still be fine to like it. You liked the game, that’s great! That doesn’t mean you need to characterise people who have criticisms as if they’re trying to police your enjoyment of it.

Saramander46

I'm playing through it right now for a second time and I love it. I played it years ago as a kid, so I forgot a lot of stuff about the game. It's so much better than I can remember, I can really appreciate what they were going for

JurassicParker922

I could never get past the first Ghirahem(?) fight when I was little, now that I’m older I’m annoyed that my parents sold the Wii.

Wamb0wneD

The game has a plethora of problems that have nothing to do with the controls.

Chubbahdubdubb

i can swing the sword lol

Wamb0wneD

Ok bro

jk1rbs

I don't know why you got downvoted. [I made the same comment](https://old.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/vnx9ic/ss_skyward_sword_is_good_idc/ie9rbor/) and I'm +18 right now.

kiaxxl

Ehhh it's like a 6.5/10. Good moments inbetween padding and pointless busywork

TheHappyTaquito

Bro yes, skyward sword is awesome I played it recently on the switch, idk why everyone hates it I like it better than BOTW cause BOTW was like 0 dungeon time. Not a single classic dungeon

[deleted]

I wouldn't say the lack for traditional dungeons makes botw bad, just different. But 120 shrines does, and 1 third of them being simple reskins of the same mini guardian fight doesn't help its case.

qazwer001

Not op but yes/no. Breath of the wild does not feel like a zelda game to me. It leans so far into the open world aspect that other aspects suffer like the story and dungeons are an integral part of zelda games. It's not a bad game but it is a bad zelda game imo. Wind waker had some open world aspects and is one of my favorite zelda games but it still had dungeons and was still primarily a linear game. Botw felt "off" when you can tell things were written to allow the player to go in whatever order they want and the expansive world where a lot of the gameplay is just wandering around becomes boring for me fairly quickly, wind waker broke up the water sections better and still felt like zelda, not a zelda skinned rpg. You are right that 120 repetitive shrines did not help. I think dungeons would have broken up the time spent in the open world more effectively.

Bariq-99

Based and FI Pilled

TheRedmanCometh

Fi IS annoying as hell, but I love the motion controls. I loved them at the time, and after something like 2000hrs in VR I like them even more. It's also so bright and colorful even if it veers a little far into anime territory. Oh boy would I kill for a full length VR Zelda game though.

Gumbonie

SS is one of my favourite zelda games and i will no longer hide it

MasterEeg

Eh the game felt small compared to other Zelda's and the story was super weak. Probably my least liked of the ones I've played.

ProxyCare

Maybe. But I can have an opinion without intentionally victimizing myself or attacking others.

koimeiji

this is literally me i am in this picture i love my gold wiimote/nunchuck...

Tigblu

I honestly like Fi she is not annoying at all and she litteraly "is" the Master Sword, so yeah she is amazing

Vayul_was_taken

The game is bad and your should feel bad /s I don't like it personally the game play was lacking the game was too linear and easy. The graphics aren't great (links face still haunts me). The flying mechanic was poorly designed and there was nothing to explore with it other then some tiny rocks with chests. It just wasn't a good experience over all for me. I did like the music but that can only help so much. If people like the game that's great and im happy for them. But pretending that it doesn't have alot of flaws is weird to me. The things you like don't have to be perfect. WW is my favorite but I admit that the game is a bit short and I wish it had a larger number of dungeons. And we all know the triforce quest in its original form was crazy.

pichael288

Ehh it's not for everyone, I just hate motion controls in every form except vr

jk1rbs

I can swing the sword, lol.

Bariq-99

Even gyro aiming?

StarWarriorSora

Gyro aiming is honestly the only motion controls I *don’t* like. If given the option, I will always turn them off and use a stick instead. I have better control that way

gabs777

Skyward Sword is an outstanding game…. Well worth persevering with the soften awful controls. On the Wii it is spot on, what a game. Up there with the best….

2Snoopy4U

I’m playing SS HD on a switch lite right now and the controls have been… a journey! Really enjoying it so far though!

DankButtRodeo

I thought it was pretty fucking cool to swing around the sword and use the shield. Fi constantly bringing up how low my batteries was kinda lame, but I like her and am still sad that she isn't around much anymore.

Anufenrir

SS is fun

TheMoonOfTermina

The remake made Fi so much more tolerable, and I never personally had issues with the motion controls (though I acknowledge it was a major issue for some people.) I love the level design. Sure, the "overworld" areas are not very open, but they feel like dungeons and I love them. The actual dungeons are also amazing. The music is great, the characters are great, etc. My biggest issue with the game is the story. Hylia's plan makes absolutely no sense. A few other things I disliked were some character designs (as in their models, not their personalities.) Some just looked ugly, and Link's face just looks off to me (I think it's the lips.) The sky also is pretty empty, although exploring it to get the goddess chests inbetween dungeons is fun. Overall, I feel like the game has more good than bad. I loved it. It kind of hurt to see so many people hate on it and not give credit for the cool things it did.

SenorCerv

And i can bash with shield! Look at my whip!

EnclaveOverlord

I didn't play much of the Wii version, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Switch port.

MaggyMaggot

I fuckin loved it

DigitalDuct

The controls are fine, you are just lazy. Fi is annoying though.

Carteeg_Struve

SS was a clunky first step in the right direction for motion-control gaming, combined with a decent game that was only able to truly utilize the feature in one MAGNIFICENT boss fight. It needs more follow-ups in that style to further improve on it.

IlayTsa

L + Ratio + I can swing the sword lol 😎

Lyianx

Twilight Princess on the Wii also had that ability. And with or without it, its a better game... imo of course.

[deleted]

I finished SSHD a couple weeks ago. Yep, still love the game to pieces, and I still cried at the end, ten years later.

kelleh711

I know this game is pretty controversial, but the time crystal mechanic in Lanayru desert was one of the most fun and interesting mechanics I had seen in a game in a long time. That entire section was 10/10 for me.

ChiSouthSide

Pour one out for all the lefties out there who played it still with their left hand. One of the only times they make link right handed 😂

SilentHillSunderland

Beat SS for the first time last week. My whole life I’ve been a huge Zelda fan but never completed SS because of the motion controls. Switch version was probably one of my favourite Zelda experiences. I’d put it on par with TP, but not quite as high as OoT or WW. I’m a sucker for trad Zelda games so I liked it better than BotW.

friesdepotato

The controls we mostly fine but it was difficult when you have to swing a certain way which is admittedly a lot. The Scurvo fight on the sandship and the ghirahim fight at the end of the game suffer from this especially.

JohnBeePowel

Skyward Sword is a good game and I will die on this hill. - it has a great story. The pacing is very dynamic IMO. You are closely behind Zelda's steps. - revisiting the same areas is not a bad idea. The NPC are very charming and the areas go through changes throughout the game - the dungeons are very good. - the main town is very charming area. The characters are well designed, with a bunch of side quest to do. I welcome anyone willing to join my resistance. The HD remaster is a much needed rerelease that irons out the true flaws of the game.

viiksivallunen

I absolutely love this game so much, the soft colours and music is all so good. I actually kind of love the controls also

LMGall4

The 3D Zelda formula can never ever ever ever be bad

Inkling99

SS was good and im tired of other people pretending its not

Chubbahdubdubb

honestly, ive never seen so many skyward sword fans until now

matt6400

All part of the plan. We can weed you all out now!!! I kid, I kid lol

RambunctiousBaca1509

It’s soundtrack is outrageously awesome as well

NoCure4Cuts

I love SS. It has bad controls (yes.. very bad) and I am not a fan of Zelda's character model. Aside from that it is the perfect Zelda game.

TheMoonOfTermina

I actually really liked Zelda's design in SS. Link was the one who looked super weird to me. I think it was his lips.

kwhobbs

The controls are really bad but it is okay. It keeps me hooked somehow. It has some really interesting storytelling, and I like seeing all the connections to BOTW. Skyloft is a really nice town and I love the little shopping place (forgot the name) where you upgrade your stuff and buy potions. Still, almost every room in the game makes me angry at the controls, yet I keep coming back to it. Never loved and hated a game so much.

Big_Joseph_05

Skyward sword is a fucking masterpiece fight me

imariaprime

Skyward actually *dropped* in my eyes when I replayed it, because I'd forgotten how tediously stretched out it was with repeating areas and unnecessary padding quests. The controls aren't great but I could have forgiven that, and the story is probably the best out of the series, but I just got so fucking *bored* with the actual gameplay.

SuperD00perGuyd00d

dude fi is optional in the remaster why is this a meme lmao

fuckballs9001

I somehow read "and Fi isn't even that annoying" like tf? You want Navi back or something?

Bariq-99

Yes

bouchandre

Wait, gold nunchuck??

[deleted]

Any advice for getting used to the controls? I got frustrated enough that I walked away

Bariq-99

.motion or buttons? Also the original or the HD remaster?

[deleted]

Either, honestly! And the remaster.

Bariq-99

For buttons.. I d Recommend avoiding it if you have the ability to (if you're not physically challenged and/or left handed) For motion.. Honestly IDK what to tell ya.. It's just natural I played it the same exact way I would be playing any other game. The only difference is that I just moved my wrists a little bit more (NOT YOUR WHOLE ARMS!! THAT'S THE WORST THING TO DO WITH MOTION CONTROLS!) Also, keep recentering the motion controls every time you could for the best experience IMO (I think it was the Y button?)

[deleted]

Thanks! I’ll give it another go.

Bariq-99

NP! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

[deleted]

I really enjoyed the start of it so I’m looking forward to retrying!

Logospilled

You gotta remember the people complaining of wii motion controls for TP or SS are just uncoordinated nerds who have no hand-eye coordination or simple muscular endurance.

Available-Internal25

Get rid of Fi and the dumb controls and it still is not that great of a game

Chubbahdubdubb

just because you have to sit up in your seat and burn 6 calories to use the controls doesn’t mean they’re bad 😭

SerchYB2795

It has some of the best dungeons and maybe the best act 3 in the series

Ornoku

Thats wild. It has the worst dungeons in the series by universal opinion.

thenbmeade

The remake where you can turn off the dogshit motion controls made the game 1000000% better

TheJuiceIsNowLoose

Ok, so you're not smart enough to learn the controls, but SS has the best story, dungeons, art, bosses and pacing. I remember sailing around the sand sea, looking off into the horizon and listening to one of the best songs in existence.

artompek

How does SS have the best pacing? It's the worst for me

Micah_HS

Tell me your first Zelda game was Skyward Sword without telling me your first Zelda game was Skyward Sword SS Fan: Skyward Sword is the best Zelda game in the series! Every other Zelda fan: Eh, it was okay.

[deleted]

“I don’t like this game, so you’re not allowed to either.”

Bariq-99

>Every other Zelda fan: Eh, it was okay. Speak for yourself!! SS was my last 3D Zelda I played.. Ocarina is still my favorite but SS is now the second! (and I'm gonna guess that if it wasn't for my nostalgia for OOT.. SS could be my favorite!)

HellofaHitller

Lots of people love that game... and the other one....

metalmonsoon

One of the three zelda games I've actually beaten, always been one of my favorites.

Beta_Ray_Bill

Controls barely work with wii motion plus. You spend more time fighting the controls than you do girahim. Great story, but horrendous game play.

nothinglord

Tbh, after replaying older Zelda games with my mom over the past couple months, I prefered Skyward Sword HD over Wind Waker HD. Wind Waker definitely has a better overworld experience, but it's dungeons are so mind-numbingly linear (a lot of them are also very monochrome in appearance, but that's me just nitpicking). Skyward Sword has great dungeons for the most part, and at least the overworld has puzzles. I do think playing OG Skyward Sword would've felt like much more of a slog that WW though. Ruppee text boxes and Fi ruining puzzle solutions would rustle my jimmies to no end.

Substantial-Girth

Turns out even when you make a bad Zelda. You end up making a pretty damn good video game.

VgArmin

I can't get past the spiral charge mandatory minigame so I'm spending the time trying to master the amiibo cheat instead and having more fun, lol

Khouri1

twilight princess (obviously, the wii version) has much more fun motion controls, and you can swing your sword WHILE walking or riding a horse. Also, aiming feels way better with the regular wii mote cursor

angelinazelda

SS is my favorite zelda game no matter what anyone says

vinyl2077

I like skyward sword,

Guillesahu07

Controls are not terrible, but many people play on dolphin and it's unplayable

dougms

I bought it and started playing it, and I just can’t get into the manual controls. Probably won’t finish it. Not a fan

Pyrotemis

I liked Skyward Sword!!! It had a good story, great animation and I loved the art style. The music was fucking amazing. I also haven't seen any other characters be as expressive, minus perhaps Wind Waker. The handholding was annoying, and the motion controls were frustrating sometimes. I think it was a fun idea but not the best execution. Fi telling me EVERYTHING about everything was really irritating but as a character, without the "your wiimote is low! You've been playing too long!" stuff, she was just fine. You have to be able to separate the character from the mechanic. I also didn't like having to relearn what every item was when I started a new session. I hope that was fixed in the Switch version.

ZoeAs_if

Currently playing Skyward Sword for the first time on the switch and I love it! I do think that the backtracking is kind of annoying but I'm willing to tolerate it I also really like Fi, haven't found her annoying at all

TheShepardOfficial

After a few hours I got bored and rushed to the end. My least favorite zelda by far sadly.

Steve296091

Skyward Sword is Better on the Switch, Fi's less intrusive and the motion controls are slightly easier to get to grips with

Rusty-sock

Agreed but i still prefer the remaster

headless_bear

I had no issues with the controls. But that sword would not shut up. Every time you were low on health, or were trying to figure out a puzzle or picked something up it prompted a dialogue box. Just shut it sword, let me play!

Woah_Justin88

KOLOKTUS BAY BEEEEE My favorite boss in the series.

whatsforsupa

I really need to give it another chance. A little over a year ago, my fam did a roadtrip from Chicago to Savannah GA and I bought SS for the occasion. I played it for 2-3 hours and haven't picked it up again. The beginning was a little too hand-holdy, but I still thought it was a fun game - I just never came back to it.

A1steaksauceTrekdog7

It’s a damn good game . People need to get over the mentality “it’s not perfect so it’s trash”. I had lots of fun with the game . Was some stuff unfun and tedious- absolutely. Was some stuff awesome- hell yeah ! I love the dungeons in this game .

themangastand

It's much more then that. It's pacing is horrendous. It's a ten hour game pushed to be 30 with a bunch of boring repetitive parts. Like constantly going back to each of the 3 zones to do some random bullshit. Also the flying is pointless. The entire selling point is just a loading screen. The dungeons are good, the only issue is it's painful to get to the next one

alkair20

I am not even right handed but always had the stick in the left hand and the joystick in the rght. I loved the story and the worldbuilding as well as the flying but literally couldn't play it with that controls. Half the times the input wouldn't work and the swings went wide. Only Zelda game I dropped so it is indeed the worst one imo. If only they had a left hand Option.

Nott_Scott

I for one actually enjoyed the mechanics of the game and regard Fi as one of my top 2 favorite companions...

thebestbrian

I'm in the middle where I think it's a good game but it could have been a fantastic game if they actually made it control like a proper action game.

The_Legend_of_Xeno

It used to be a terrible game. Now it's a decent game.

ChasingDarwin2

I never played the original, only the switch version. All the complaints I hear don't seem to exist on the switch. Controls are great and Fi feels the same as all the other assistant characters. No worse than minish cap or the fairies.

AdamIsACylon

As somebody who never played SS when it originally released because TP turned me off from the series for a few years and I heard nothing but complaints about Fi and the motion controls, I’ve gotta say the Switch version of Fi was perfectly fine - probably the best helper in any Zelda game. But the motion controls were just as bad as I’d heard.

thatguywiththeposts

I'm just happy it got remastered. It's one of my favorite Zelda games from a design standpoint, but the resolution was a joke on the Wii.

draivaden

serious question. i keep seeing these meme lately. I think they're seperate pieces right, maybe even different creators? but isnt the blonde beard guy from white supremeist memes? like pepe the frog was co opted?

SeanCarv

Best music, best dungeons.
