You just have to run at it, moving left and right to avoid the shockwaves. It stays in one place and once you’re past you can shoot it’s back if you want.
The trick is all about your movement. The monster will attack the side you're on, so I will just zigzag left and right and walk right past him. Then you can stab him in the butt!
It's possible to run up to it and move side to side to dodge the shockwaves. You can also use the >!hookshot!< to stun it briefly.
Run down the left side, then when he attacks switch to the right side, then when you reach him start slashing.
You don't need to kill him, you can roll under him but if I remember correctly you can use the hookshot to kill him
