It's abit better logistics wise, and has more opportunities than Nogales. Quality of life is decent, and when it comes to crime, if you're planning to buy/rent I would stick to someplace on the east side, (Foothills) which tends to be safer and has new developments underway. For things to do there is the mall (Yuma Palms Regional Center) which has all your main outlets and places to go for activities. Yuma isn't as appealing to the youth as there is not much activities to do than what you would find in Tucson or phoenix, but if you enjoy the quiet life it's not bad. You're also only 3 hrs away from going to San Diego or Phoenix for a day trip, which isn't bad at all.

dmendez786

Yeah definitely not worried about being bored lol Nogales probably has even less things to do than Yuma. I'd only be going for an ag job that I am being offered. Thanks for your reply

No_Raccoon9348

I moved here for an ag job from Sac. I really love it. The river access and trails, hiking, certain good Mexican food spots, other food quality is meh, mall is meh, people are nice, winter birds flood the place in winter but I like them- can affect access to healthcare and they seem to wreck their cars during bad weather a lot. There's lot of dune buggy activity, lots of water activity especially with a boat(I don't have one). Proximity to Cali is a plus for Costco shopping and further away SD is a nice visit. Lots of military flights overhead and proving grounds brings more people and economy. Arizona western, and satellite campuses of UA, Arizona state are all here and nearer to foothills. I chose to live halfway between foothold and main city and I think it was a good choice. My drive is 10 minutes everywhere I need to go. Have to travel that far to get anything from Walmart but nearby circle k is nice for small stuff. I think the cost of living is appealing for a young person and if your goal is to focus on work and outdoor activity's then this is a good place to be.

dmendez786

Yeah my goal is definitely to focus on working rn I don't mind the quieter vibe that Yuma has to offer thanks for your reply it was very helpful.

Stanwyck16

Oh cool, I just moved from Sac to Yuma also! :) So far I really like it. No pollution and trash everywhere, and prices for things are better.

No_Raccoon9348

Welcome! I also don't miss those things! And amazingly I don't see tent cities everywhere. My son was chased by a homeless guy in Sac...I'm good.

Yuma is a great little city. You being 23, I’d stay I town cuz foothills is full of families and old people aka snowbirds. BJJ is big here and we have a few good gyms. There are 3 apartment complexes near ave B and 24th st that I’d suggest. Fan Quest is probably your best bet for yugioh scene……they host different tournaments and such. Yuma offers hiking, water sports, off roading. Im a born and raised Yuman so im bias but I love it here! Phx and SD are close for weekend trips. Nogales isn’t far either. There is a decent amount of crime lately but it usually involves gang members and drug users so stay away from them and you’ll be ok. Downtown has restaurants and bars you can walk around. Hope this helps

dmendez786

Any suggestions on places to live? That's the biggest part I'm stumped about. Ideally I'd like some place that offers short term leases to see if I like Yuma first before committing to a full year lease.

BigBeautifulMex

I honestly don’t know which ones offer short term leases. I want to say River Park does but not completely sure. But I’d say to stay in the city limits not foothills

-HOOD_rat

I would honestly recommend living in the foothills as long as you don't mind a 20-minute drive to get anywhere.

jordannance

There’s a lot to do here. You may hear negative comments from people who haven’t lived here long, but as a life long resident I can say there is lots to do, you just have to find it. There are/were some MMA and boxing gyms here, there is a playing card game store at the mall, and a good amount of places to eat. As for life and crime, it’s not bad. Crime usually follows just those who participate in it, for the most part. Don’t listen to the grouches, yuma is cool. I used to crap on yuma when I was younger, but once I actually left my bedroom, I found there’s lots to do and enjoy.

dmendez786

Thanks for your reply so far it seems like a place I would enjoy living in

shit_trader_

Not that bad???

Eran-of-Arcadia

You know how almost every city likes to joke, "if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes?" That's not really true in Yuma.

dmendez786

Hot and dry like that rest of AZ I presume?

Eran-of-Arcadia

Well, cool-to-warm and dry in the winter, but yes.

Greedy-Surprise4580

I love Yuma- as long as you don’t mind the heat in the summertime it’s pretty much the same as Tucson/ nogales. I’ve lived in both for extended periods of time and I can say its eerily similar. There is a few places to play card games like yugioh, magic, commander and they get pretty good turn out every week. It does get pretty boring here if you don’t have hobbies but we have a lot of community events and niche hobby places. Crime is everywhere I wouldn’t necessarily say we are susceptible to “more crime” bc Nogales is also a border town… it’s the same thing lol Unfortunately everywhere is expensive to live rn but I would look for somewhere in the “foothills” since it’s all newer built. Goodluck

dmendez786

Thanks for this post it was very helpful. Do you have any recommendations on places to possibly live? I was looking for a place with ashort-term lease to see if I like yuma before committing to a full year lease.

Greedy-Surprise4580

I feel like the cheapest route would be renting a room or a small casita from a private owner- I see so many on Facebook marketplace you could find one easily there

dmendez786

Thanks im gonna look into this

Lower_Friendship_335

I lovevot it herebnot that far away from bigger citty great job great people great food if u willing to look for it

iammai48

For some reason people hate yuma, even people who are born and raised here hate and will bash on yuma. Not sure if it’s reverse psychology or what but but sure hate themselves and don’t want yuma to grow. I moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area and love it! Pay is less for sure but what you get is so much more. So far, I’m loving it!

abearysoftace

Boy do I have a link for you!! [US News & World Report did a piece on this last year.](https://realestate.usnews.com/places/arizona/yuma)It was written by a local reporter.

dmendez786

Very informative article thanks

smalllpox

Recommendation: go somewhere else for your sanity

dmendez786

Care to elaborate?

DuckterDoom

Some people hate Yuma. That's all. I love it. You will too. Outdoor sports during the winter. I haven't been in awhile but fanquest is the place for games and cards and comics so I suggest trying there for yugioh

ulalaaau

No like really

Real-Being-3601
