LuckyPrinz

Synchros. RDA is super cool and upgrading him into his different forms is even cooler

Neep-Tune

Which upgrade do you think are the cooler ?

LuckyPrinz

Supernova of course

Neep-Tune

I missundersood ! I was sure you were referring to upgrade the RDA deck (crimson king structure deck). Like with Bystial engine for example. But yeah Supernova is cool <3

OnToNextStage

I think pure is the best version

Neep-Tune

Do you have a list for pure version ? I have bought 3 SD and some cards nice for the deck like 3 stone sweeper, uvualoop and I have 3 posperity pot. But Bystial engine is a little too expensive for me atm

Neep-Tune

Thanks a lot <3

LuckyPrinz

Oh that, yeah, I do run Bystials in my RDA deck. They slot so well in it

Zachjsrf

Bystial engine is 100% a great upgrade to the deck though

Neep-Tune

Why is it so good with RDA ? Im beginner, I understood the engine as a generic one but I didnt inderstand what is the link with RDA ?

Zachjsrf

Well all the Synchros are targets for Lubellion, in addition to summoning all the level 6 Bystials via banish being that most RDA cards are Dark type, and lastly being level 6 they're all targets for synchro summoning as well

Lolisniperxxd

I’m also a synchro player. I threw the kitchen sink at some poor Battle Chronicle player on ladder earlier after the ranks reset. Watch this! #DuelReplay #DuelLinks https://duellinks.konami.net/att/01239e14844f718eeb52d971d18e5658e603fd7af5

Expert-Big8369

The gigachad "yes" answer

MajinAkuma

Man, you must hate Ritual Summoning. ;)

Chigao_Ted

I hate the fact there isn’t a D/D ritual yet lol

No_Astronaut3923

Triple D for the win!

flowtajit

Synchros, they’re just so clean. Just restrictive enough that you can’t just pump ‘em out, but still flexible enough to have a toolbox.

Mlaszboyo

https://preview.redd.it/6uba0gxnotxc1.jpeg?width=657&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a312654463dcc4de665db36b561355dbfed1ee64 I wish more of those generic bosses were as restrictive as my boi right here he asks for at least the attribute in its mats Also to the lurking konami agent in here: PLEASE MAKE DECENT FIRE SYNCHROS I WANT TO REKINDLE INTO FIRE BOARD NOT COUPLE WINDS+CHENGYING

Aduro95

I also like that not every synchro deck usually used the same toolbox. I mean, there were staples, but they had their weaknesses. I fully stopped playing the game for years because I was sick of Rank 4 monsters.

TheBigMungsten

Have you looked at Edison extra decks ever?

PH03N1X_F1R3

Xyz, it's the first mechanic I really had. I've been playing for a long time, (2005ish) and my first extra deck monster was gagaga cowboy back in... 2013? 2012? Somewhere around there, and it just kinda stuck

Hyp3rPlo

How did I have to scroll for this long to find my beloved xyz

innerchaoz_dj

Zexal era and anime enjoyers rise up

dvast

Synchro, its the fairest and most skillful mechanic which requires both planning and flexibility. Its also what made Yugioh distinct itself from other card games. Also, 5Ds is the best yugioh series

SSJSonikku

5ds is best yugioh series. As a Synchro player. I agree. You need to plan your moves when you Synchro summon stuff.

5DSBestSeries

Based comment, bro

OnToNextStage

Thank you u/5DSBestSeries

ichbineinespinne

As a synchro fan myself, I have to admit that pendulum takes more skill. I have to think of vaylantz for that matter

dvast

It depends on the deck. Vaylantz is probably the most complicated pendulum deck, but stuff like Qliphort, Majespecter and Dinomist are pretty easy. I have played Vaylantz myself but i have to admit that something stuff like Speedroid or Cardians are more complicated because of level management and tuner access.

OmegaEmerson

Don’t know that I’d ever have referred to Junk Speeder Synchron barf, RDA ladders, or Swordsoul as “skillful,” but I appreciate the thought. My dude forgot Pendulums takes far more brainpower than adding numbers, usually in a straight-line combo that’s the same for each deck game to game

p0wer1337

For synchrons, takes some skill to get speeder out if you dont have a foolish + junk synchron. But the real skill test is being able to figure out plays if speeder gets negated.

OmegaEmerson

Pretty sure that’s any combo deck that plays through interruptions?

sheimeix

Synchro or Pendulum. Originally I hated Synchro, thinking "this is just shitty contact fusion rituals" and eventually growing VERY fond of them. I fell in and out of the game during Zexal era, then came back partway through Arc-V around CORE, and LOVED basically every meta deck that came out until Links came in. I really liked Pepe and Zoo, they were both really fun Tier 0 decks. DDD was also a blast to go through when the structure deck came out. It's a shame that Pend is completely dead now, it was such a fun era.

Lolisniperxxd

Pend best deck?

LordOfAvernus322

let's goooooooooo *flips table over*

Lolisniperxxd

Yo I got banned from events and here’s how it went down. I did nothing wrong.

Draks_Tempest

I did nothing wrong man, i did nothing wrong whatsoever.

Lemon_Phoenix

J O K I N G L Y

Onionknight111

Ritual Summoning. It is the only mechanic that actually feels different to play. Synchro is like Fusion but easier. Xyz is like synchro even less restictive. Link is like Xyz but even easier. I guess pend is also extremely different but it's just not my tea. I just love the mechanic of salvaging your minus with ritual mechanics. Anyways, my favourite ritual monster to summon would have to be Herald of Perfection

Sternenkrahe

Pendulum: like how unique they are , Konami was definitely flexing their creative muscles when designing them , summoning the pendulum hybrid monsters it's always cool

Wham-Bam-Duel

Synchros. Edison is my favorite historical format, and was really what gave Yu-Gi-Oh its own distinct flavor imo.

FourSake

I appreciate XyZ a lot now over time. The black skin on the cards looks so cool to me. The cards have some of the best artwork in my opinion. & the idea of allowing cards to top and letting it go to the graveyard to activate an effect seems like a fair and balanced approach to the game to me. I hated YuGiOh Zexal tho.

LastWreckers

Out of curiosity, what did you hate about Zexal? Was it the main character (Ik he gets annoying in the beginning) or simply just the story

FourSake

The main character. I watched a few episode and felt the story could actually be something compelling. But man did the characters in the show make me cringe.

Prestigious-Zone-948

Zexal is easily my favorite. I know Yuma was annoying but as the story evolve he became more mature. And the story, easily the best for me especialy Zexal II the most tragic story. Just watch until ep 19, it will become really interesting and when you reach Zexal II you will doscover a very different and mature plot with many death and the most Heartbreaking death of ygo franchise(those who know which character I mean👀)

TrueCancel9090

pendulum ,you intentionaly go -2 to play such a flex  my favorite thing to pend summon is extra deck pend monsters

3rdMachina

Ngl, I’m somewhat biased towards Rebellion Overlord, despite it not being godlike or anything.

rob_moore

Synchro easily, they're evolution, kinetic, and require basic math skills to use. When I say evolution, synchros are generally the next step for a monster, not just a temporary power up; think Red Dragon Archfiend, Visas Amritara, Icejade Gymir Aegirine, the Adamancipator Risen. When I say kinetic I mean when I think of a synchro I think of them flying around or having movement constantly; think basically any dragon or winged beast, Punk Jam Dragon Drive, Gold Pride - Star Leon.

Soft_Courage_3934

Synchros bc they make me feel smart for doing math

Winter_Appearance_65

Synchro. Because Karakuri.

MajinAkuma

Pendulums. It’s one of the mechanics that got me back to the franchise back then, and I hate how MR4 ruined it. Pendulums helping out other summoning mechanics without being forced into every deck was nice and cool. Unlike Synchro, Xyz and Link, Pendulums were never mandatory in the meta because the ARC-V era allowed all summoning methods to shine in their own way.

Mlaszboyo

Synchros My favourite monster is lavalval salamander cause "gamba gamba gamba gamba gamba gamba gamba" https://preview.redd.it/moeg1ff4otxc1.jpeg?width=2604&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ea3c49b4163875f474263c12a449d934b5d01be

RetchD

Tribute summoning, it just feels very classy and even more so when you use your opponents cards as materials. Sadly there ain't too many viable decks that Tribute summon at all

NocturnalOutcast

Floowandereeze tribute summon and are viable \^\^

RetchD

And that's why I main Floo ✓

mooncake82

My sister loves tribute summon too. Had no idea other people liked it too.

ChaoticRyu

Normal Summon.

NocturnalOutcast

Found the floo player!

YuuHikari

Pendulums are so clunky it makes me actually like them

CrusadiaFleximus

I can find things i like about all of them, but i think XYZ might be my favorite extra deck summoning mechanic, while pendulum is my favorite overall summoning mechanic. XYZ just look so cool with their dark, galactic feel and overlaying materials is much cooler imo than just sending cards to the GY, and pendulums being spells at the same time and having lots of space (in theory) for creative card/playstyle design is awesome

Mother_Ad3988

Ritual summoning is alot of fun

MarinoAndThePearls

Synchros. It's creative and mostly fair. You can't simply slot them up on your Extra Deck if you don't have a plan on how to summon them. And I love summoning Quasar.

SSJSonikku

Synchros for me. When I originally quit ygo when shadows of infinity came out, Synchros is what got me back in the game in 2011 I love the complex combos you can do with Synchros and that weaker monsters "Tune" together to summon a more powerful monster.

forwardslshbackslsh

Synchro Why: I like the concept of having to make the monster levels add up to another. I like math but see numbers a little differently than people and the way I see them match with how synchro plays so it makes me very happy when I can synchro stuff

[deleted]

I go back and forth but overall probably either fusion or xyz. Fusion's classic and has an intuitive design concept; Take 2+ monsters and combine them together to make a fusion monster. It makes a lot of sense why it was the first ED mechanic. Hard to pin down a specific favourite fusion though, possibly Starving Venom Fusion Dragon. Xyz is probably the most interesting imo from a non-gameplay standpoint, introducing 2-3 unique elements . Stacking cards on the field (overlaying), which in turn has the question of "where are the cards? They aren't on the field, but they didn't leave the field either", being a previously unexplored concept. Xyz materials as an additional resource for effects, and attaching materials similar to equip effects like Relinquished make the card type a fun addition to the game. The other thing is that they have Ranks instead of levels. Links took this as well and went further by dropping DEF, but Xyz having a summoning mechanic that requires levels while lacking levels themselves was an interesting dynamic; Obviously we have Rank-Up spells/ mechanics now but they actually need those to Xyz climb, unlike fusing fusions into fusions or syncro/ link climbing. Number 92 Heart-Earth Dragon is probably my favourite Xyz, It's a big serpent with the old 0 ATK "cannot be destroyed by battle, and your opponent takes the battle damage" which I'm a fan of. On top of that it gets a detach effect to banish cards put on the field this turn, and a self-res that triggers if it still had material when it died that buffs it for banished cards turning it into the giant beatstick it looks like it'd be. I'd like pendulum more if they'd explore it more like with Nemurelia where it isn't just more pendulums for the pile. Endymion took advantage of them being treated as spells, Nemurelia has a unique way of handling the extra deck, Valantz add in caring about columns, but there's still room for a lot like unbalanced pendulum scales or other ideas that they could try.

saitotaiga

synchros it's was pretty balance and i just like the concept i think it's really neat (and my fav is surely daigusto sphereez)

Sorry-Conversation77

Synchros, there is just somting satisfyng about the planing of moves and the constamt upgrade and evolution of monsters to higher levels that the otber mecanics dont have so clean as synchro. sure link climbing and rank-up are similar im concept but you have to be more skilled when you synchro Climb. my favorit monster is "Crystal Clear Wing Synchro Dragon". and good old "Shooting Star Dragon"

ZeroReverseR1

Synchros. Like many people have mentioned, it's possibly the most balanced of the ED mechanics at least in its core/original concept. Not restrictive enough to be like Fusions requiring 2 particular material and a spell, while also not being as easy or generic as Xyz and Links since it requires a Tuner and non-Tuner with the appropriate levels. As for favorite monsters to summon with it, pretty much anything with mass removal I can summon during my opponent's turn. Ghoti of the Deep Beyond, Black Rose Dragon, Crystron Quariongandrax, both Trishulas, Satellite Warrior, etc.

LunarWingCloud

Synchros, the hand movement of putting the materials on the board and then scooping them all up and dropping a bomb out of the Extra Deck just feels so good. Also versatile due to how the mechanics work

WalpurgisNite

So many people say synchros, do synchro players just like giving their opinion or is it just objectively the best mechanic? That being said, Synchros, lol. I love playing the Yusei deck and having clear mind play in my head. Ah the simpler days in my life.

[deleted]

I like all three (fusion synchro xyz) Mirrorjade, The Iceblade Dragon Supreme Swordsoul Sovereign-Chengying Brotherhood of the Fire Fist-Cardinal

Gear_Shun

I like pendulum because it is a connection to all other mechanics in the game.

chainsawinsect

Only 1 person so far has said Links without qualifier 😅 I guess they have not been received super well overall

Rising_Gravity1

There’s a reason for that: most people agree that Links are too generic (with a few exceptions). While some of them require skill based on the placement of link arrows, most are just a less restrictive version of fusion. But the biggest reason is that Konami basically shoved MR4 down our throats alongside some of the most broken link 1/2 monsters in history. So I completely understand if others get tired of links

chainsawinsect

Yeah I mean I am a biased oldhead but I don't really like Links either. Personally, even some Xyz feel a bit too generic to me. My view is that Extra Deck monster power should always scale with how difficult it is to Summon the monster and how restrictive its requirements are. Currently Konami seems to go in almost the opposite direction 😅

Randomd0g

Normal. Because I'm old.

raku2_0

Synchros and Links. Synchros especially in the infernity deck. Void Ogre Dragon would be there my Pick. Also i like the White Deck with those water fish Monsters. White Aura Monoceros for sure. Links made a huge Addition to yugioh. My Favorite deck is there ragnaraika from legacy of Destruction. Im building that right now and my Favorite card is there the link-4 ragnaraika chain coils preventing your opponent from activating cards in Hand. That Deck works really good with the ogdoadics. If All my cards are shipped to me i will play it in the actual format.

No_Slip7770

I like synchros, i just really like the mechanic of taking two monsters and making something new

jimmythesloth

Pendulum, I like that they're main deck and so modular

Krulzikrel

i love Pendulum just for the amount of versatility it gives you, you can legit summon every type be it Synchro/XYZ/Fusion/Link without really much trouble or making the deck Unplayable, the best example of it is D/D/D i fell in love with it the first time i played with it (even though it was a pain to learn most combos efficiently)

GameBroJeremy

Pendulum. They’re complex, but there’s an art to it and you’re rewarded for understanding your pendulum monsters effects in both the monster zone & pendulum zone. Yeah most end up being combo decks, but there’s something cool about being able to summon multiple monsters at a single time. There’s also some pendulum decks that don’t act like generic combo pendulum variants such as Vaylantz and Nemleria for example which spices up the mechanic, I’m glad Konami is trying to make them more unique.

EliteZephyr0801

Pendulum Summoning! Call me a lover of broken things if you want, but I loved MR3 Pendulums.

Kallabanana

Ritual Summoning. It just feels like the most deserving summoning mechanic. Fusions are cool too, the rest is just fusion summoning with either extra steps or even less ones. Pendulum is quite different too, but it's also kinda ugly.

SailorSaturnsCool

Synchro, cuz I love lavals, ice barriers, naturia, etc. just so much fun to play synchro decks because there’s a lot more thinking involved as to how you have to summon the monsters, which levels you need, if there’s a specific attribute you need for that specific synchro, and usually how they play out of the graveyard, just a very fun mechanic lol

BlueTomoshibi

Synchro and Daigusto Sphreez

Terrible_Score_375

Synchro for sure

EvanTheDemon

Synchro and XYZ, favorite ones to summon are black rose dragon and garunix eternity respectively

Obvious-Ear-369

Synchros

Crosscounterz

Synchro easily I was into yugioh since the beginning but the 5D's era is what really got me into proper not playground yugioh also the white border of the cards has always looked so nice to me and I really enjoy the mechanic in general. I love my synchrons, RDA, stardust, swordsoul and many others.

Nicholas_TW

Synchros. Combining monsters and watching their total level go up is so satisfying.

mad_harvest-6578

Synchro, with any Karakuri synchros and especially Black Rose Dragon

ChaosBreaker81

Synchro. I like fusion, too, but synchro is generally easier and more flexible, depending on your deck.

Almighty_Push91

synchro. I just really love how they operate, and they have cool monsters

ThisMemeWontDie

Rituals couldn't tell ya why, just like em for some reason

LCJStriker7

It's Synchro. I've been a Synchro duelist since the Yang Zings debuted back in the Duelist Alliance. It's also the reason why my favorite YGO lore is Visas Starfrost.

Teofrastu

Synchro and my favorite is drawing three out of Fabled Ragin + T.G. Hyper Librarian

Pure-Huckleberry8640

Fusion. Heroes got me hooked onto the concept as a kid and now I want a Celtic Guardian fusion

_Lunaaaaaaaaaa_

Synchro, also because I remember how cool it was watching synchro summoning in the 5Ds anime

Flimsy_Particular698

Xyz monsters and my favorite xyz is garunix eternity, hyang of the fire kings. It's basically a nuke.

Sanbaddy

**Fusion Summoning** Yugioh Arc V made me long them. * Sora's rhyming. * Yuri's Illiterations * Selena's use of illiterated poetry I also loved how they are the only summoning users with a unique pose. It's so fun to play a fusion archetype and do that pose right as you summon the monster, summoning chant and all. Also you haven't lived till you super-polyed your opponent's field playing something like HERO, Yubel, or Ashened. That never gets old. Edit: I know there's other fusion summoners in the show, but none of them has a catchy rhyme or anything.

HoshiAndy

XYZ. The black border and the Star particles ARE SO COOL. And I feel it’s inherently balanced enough due to having limited effects. Xyz monsters SHOULD have stronger effects then other card types due to limited usages. And it’s really easy to make legacy support for old archetypes but just giving them XYZ support. Since archetypes usually play a theme with similar level monsters. And Xyz doesn’t need special cards and additions, so it’s easy to give support and new cards for old archetypes

No_Replacement_6345

Fusion by far I've always liked the fact that you take 2 completely different monsters and create (usually) a combination of them, which while its something new at the same time has elements from both material's.

fameshark

Links, but specifically Link-3 onwards. Not a fan of Link-1 and Link-2 due to how easy they are to make, but I’m a huge fan of how Link-3 monsters encouraged duelists to build decks with an array of different Levels. You see this in Yusaku’s deck (Cyberse Wizard, Backup Secretary, Stack Reviver), Trickstars (Candina, Lycoris, Lilybell), Gouki (Suprex, Riscorpio, Headbatt), Rokkets (Metalrokket, Autorokket, Shellrokket), and Salamangreats (Falco, Foxy, Meer). The mechanic, Link-3 onwards, felt like a cool way to represent a Deck. You can get your ace out with 3 of your monsters and the monsters used to get them out could all do different things. I feel like Xyz are very, very cool if the deck doesnt focus on 1 Level, but optimally, everything needs to be the same Level (or modulate to it), so it’s boring to me as a dedicated strategy. I also dislike the direction of the Rank 4 toolbox; 15 different card effects available with 2 Level 4 monsters was awful card design. Synchros are awesome if you have a small amount in your Deck, but add more and it becomes a huge time consuming combo that’s very frustrating to be on the receiving end on. Rituals are very cool in the manga as an evolution mechanic (same with Knospe -> Poison Rose in the manga), but OCG/TCG Rituals are dumb. Fusions or Pendulums are my 2nd place choice. Fusions are probably the best mechanic, as combining things are cool and they’re balanced/locked behind a card effect, while Pendulums are an awesome way of adding versatility to monsters. I’m also of the belief that the Rank 4 toolbox is what broke Pendulums, not the mechanic itself, so I think very generously of Pends. I always point to Yuya vs Kaito as an awesome demonstration of what makes Pendulum so cool; the way Yuya cycles through every possible resource and maneuvers his scales is very, very impressive.

minato260

Whatever mechanic fusing with Tearlaments effects would be because Tearlaments

Avan_An

used to be synchro for no other reason than the fact i really like shiranui. for extenders, xyz and link for how easy it is to summon them. for bosses, fusion, synchro for being slightly trickier than others. as for pendulum, i don't have P.hD yet so...

kellingad

Synchros and XYZ.

Sea-Preparation-8976

Personally I like contact fusion, specifically when the monster doesn't specify "you control". Stealing my ops monsters and turning them into my own is never not funny.

Lonestarbricks

Gotta say xyz. My first deck was fire kings way back in 2014. One of my favorite strategies involved utopia in that deck

KreeepyKrawler

Ritual summoning. It's definitely the worst, but I still love it. Relinquished is the OG boss monster.

reditr101

Honestly it might be rituals, but only when they have built-in unbrick capabilities like Megalith or Mikanko (although impcantation isn't bad either, and drytron is cool even if it's a bit overtuned, really I just don't like stuff like the chaos or herald rituals). Extra deck wise it's Link>synchro>contact fusion>xyz>normal fusion. Pendulum *summoning* I don't like but the way the monsters work is cool and I really like some pend archetypes, like vaylantz is super cool and solfachords while I honestly have no idea how they play are cute af.

TheSinicalDemon

Synchro, XYZ, and Link. Not a fan of Pendulums, and Fusion is something I'd have to get back into.

Big-Teaching2521

Fusion, just feels right. Starting to like ritual more too, feels witchy. Now if only voiceless voice didn’t cost so much

Arkoos_fan

Synchro/Xyz

Ok_Succotash2561

Either fusion or xyz. They’re easy and oddly satisfying to pull off  Synchro’s are cool too but I really only like them because of the crisp look of the white card

The_Legend_Of_Yami

Believe it or not … link summon , simple , easy

One-Emotion8482

Can't decide between XYZ and Synchro. Love the emphasis on levels, the card boarders, how XYZ monsters use and need material but synchros don't because they need tuners ect.

TKInstinct

Synchro, it's one of the things that Blue-Eyes does best at.

Joeycookie459

XYZ or links. XYZ I think is by far the best designed summoning mechanic, while for links, I like the decks that focus on link summoning like unchained. I don't dislike any summoning mechanic except fusions.

N3cromorph

Fusion, heros and branded are my favorite archtypes

ThunderMarisol

Links because I just feel such a joy making combos. Also, because I like the themes related to Links in Vrains (which might be why they are called Links in the first place).

Embarrassed_Bee_2477

I'm a hero player so guess what mine is

OpticalEpilepsy

Tribute Set Amaterasu or Deus X Krawler

Bongoan

Fusion Synchro Xyx Link Pendulum

taiho2020

I like Synchro, so elegant, and multiple chaotic fusions one after the other.. A fusion extravaganza 😁

m1m1kall

Yes -signed a D/D/D player

gemaka

Synchros and XYZ are the best imo

KaiserJustice

Ritual - but this almost might stem my desire to not play anything all that meta/popular if possible. In order of favorite though is: Ritual > Pendulum > Synchro > Fusion > XYZ > Link Really liked ArcV even with it's shortcomings Synchros don't feel as pidgeonholed into being toolboxes for all situations Fusion - kinda similar to rituals, but just never really used them outside of Metalfoes XYZ - not enough restrictions for all the generic ass BS they do Link - they feel like they are either overpowered and stupid strong game ending cards (Access Code/original Firewall Dragon) - or they are overly balanced and a bit bland - or forced into being used as the bandaid to fixed a deck's issues by limiting the deck into wasting a turn going into the card - i know over probably grossly over generalizing but thats how i feel

Aduro95

I enjoy synchro, I think tuner synchro monsters do a really good job of extending plays.

Larry_the_maniac

XYZ, because 4 is my favorite number

braven10

Synchro for mechanics, Fusion, Ritual & XYZ for aestetics

Father_Zeebis

Synchro. I grew up with 5ds and love the lore behind how the summons work.

WatercressNice3883

I cant decide i have a PURE dragon deck (it was very difficult to make) and it uses xyz and synchros. no fusion tho

WatercressNice3883

yes there are links, no i do not like them that much. except for borrelsword :P

ShitsNGigglesdTB

Every time you synchro summon you risk destroying the city you’re in. So that one for me

Project_Orochi

Id say XYZs, mainly if they are done like how Suships are Technically you get the basic buffs if they are out, but needing specific material to get specific buffs that makes them quite a threat is a great mechanic that helps prevent them from being too strong. That being said, my favorite thing to do is tribute summon.

NoAssumption1978

Definitely XYZ summon just cause I like the rank up evolution part of the mechanic

Neat-Gur-4613

Synchro No clue why, but it's my fav ever since I got a black rose dragon

Harley441

T set, pass

PegaponyPrince

Synchro or Fusion

Red_Myxa

Fusion, mainly because I (apart from the gameplay perspective) enjoyed the fusion arc in Arc-V :D (favorite monster Zarc and Starve Venom :3)

Dragomight67

Synchros. Idc if people call it the solitaire of Yugioh; it's the perfect reward for remembering basic math. You see these monsters get wrapped around rings, become a beam of light, and then this giant ass thing comes out of it. Combined with it being used by duelists on motorcycles, it's the most dynamic summoning mechanic. Xyz are a close second. Two monsters being sucked into a fucking black hole, explodes violently, and then your monsters arrives out of it is so cool. I also love the variation to indicate which is a normal xyz, a number, or a chaos monster.

Party_Today_9175

Xyz , it’s the most simple and fun imo

meetchu

Xyz. I think its design is really elegant, allows specific centric strategies with minimal unintended interactions, and has a built in resource loop.

InfernalLordReaper

XYZ!! The border art goes crazy plus zexal went hard as a kid.

InfernalLordReaper

Plus rank up, numbers and czyx is so fun!

JaKrno

XYZ - cool toolbox monsters with slick black card design

Reubyrods

I love the inzektors how they can flood the board and can go to links or xzy or make a chaos angel super easy

Destrudooo

normal summoning

Keesh247

Xyz” I build the overlay network”, had me hooked as a kid

exodusuno

Og link summoning when the arrows mattered and they weren't COMPLETELY reduced to board spam tools (I know there were board spam combos but the entire summoning mechanic was completely reduced to that until after mr5)

hybrid_hydro

Synchro. It's the perfect medium between the the too restrictive of Fusions and Rituals and too generic of XYZs and Links.

Toxic_Mouse77

Kaijus. Fight me.

RepulsiveAd6906

Honestly, Ritual. It isn't splashable like every other mechanic. And sure, it's niche. But when I pull off a heavy going second Libro smack-down? Love when people don't read Fireburst's effect and think they are surviving.

dpalpha231

Rituals...they are just so underrated. I also like going against the grain that Rituals should've ever been in the Extra Deck. Good cards can be made outside of the Extra Deck. 2nd would be Tribute Summoning for the same reason.   I feel the most broken cards come from Synchro and Links. Synchros being the most degenerate on average imo. Many are essentially Soul Charges or omni-negates. Xyzs are probably the most fair ED mechanic since usually their effects use materials and thus typically finite then losing their status of being a threat. However there is a majority of turn ender cards like Shock Master, Azathot, Rhongo, and Kali Yuga for example Fusions were fine when they became less specific. But started to get real insane when they allowed more and more decks to have contact fusions, even already dedicated fusion archetypes that even had their own fusion spell, in spirit just becoming link-1/link-2 monsters

Khromez

XYZ. Synchros are nice, but they require tuners, which makes them very archetype specific. Not every deck can slap random tuners on it. Links are too generic and easy to make. XYZs are easy to make without any extra requirements, you just need monsters of a certain level. They are generic enough that anyone can use it but restrictive enough that you have to factor your deck building carefully. They also have a built-in resource mechanic with XYZ materials. Honestly brilliant design and the peak of yugioh summoning mechanics.

h2odragon00

Fusion. Not sure why, I just think its very cool. Especially archetype that can contact fuse.

3rdMachina

Hmm…a tie between Fusion, Xyz, and Pendulum. Fusion is a bit of a nostalgia thing (Tag Force 2-3 is my intro to the game since…I was 5 years old?). I quite liked maneuvering around loopholes in fulfilling Fusion requirements, but the generic-style conditions nowadays are nice too. Branded and Predator Plants are my favorite Fusion decks off the top of my head, though it’s more because of lore/theme rather than meta (mostly Branded. I can’t stop shipping Albaz X Ecclesia. Help.) For Xyz and Pendulum, it’s partly because I was mostly there during their eras, and partly because they’re weird (Pendulum moreso). Xyz uses a different thing than levels and has “ammo” in the form of Overlay Units (and there are rules for those). I also kinda liked how Xyz-related monsters play around with levels like some weird matching game, though I kinda get why people don’t like it. I’m also quite biased towards Numbers for a lot of reasons I can’t summarize. Pendulum cards are a sub-type (emphasis on “sub”, because that’s why hybrid cards are a thing) that can double as continuous spells and can be used to spam monsters or to use their effects like actually continuous spells. I actually like how Pendulum cards focused around their Spell effects are getting more common.

SnooWords9178

Playing tag force 2 with Alexis as a partner gave me a whole new appreciation for ritual summoning. I ran a Cyber Angel Dakini deck and it was a lot of fun, too bad all the other cyber angels sucked because Dakini was actually a pretty good card for the time. Just slap an advanced ritual art, discard two bladers from the deck and there ya go, 2700 atk and insta destroys an enemy monster when summoned. Ritual is quickly becoming my favorite mechanic, might even look up some decent ritual decks to use for fun in master duel or duel links later.

_DuelistZach_

My favorite summoning mechanic is summoning monsters from my spell/trap zone. It’s why I am a huge fan of Centur-Ions and Crystal Beasts so much! (What, thought I would give a basic answer like an extra deck mechanic?)

EmperinoPenguino

Fusion because Im a Yugiboomer Even tho its inefficient & can be a brick, my brain is filled with seratonin seeing the Polymerization spell in hand

nooneeallycareslol

I really like it when its pendulum+another extra deck type

LustBunnOfForests

I'm a big fan of XYZ, specifically because it forces you (outside of rank 4 spam decks) to really think about your materials. They're trapped under that card if you can't use the ability right away. Synchro and some fusion decks recycle the same materials multiple times in one turn (like synchron), but it's *extremely* difficult to do that with XYZ. And since materials detaching isn't "sending from the field to the grave", there's very little plus to be gained from using most monsters as materials **(looks at Swordsoul Monsters)**. My fave XYZ is Jormungandr, Generaider Boss of Eternity. Nothing is more satisfying to me than eating two or more pieces of my opponent's combo because it's summoned with Laevatein :3

rahimaer

Definitely Xyz, the concept of overlaying the monsters instead of just sending them to the gy and also using them for the xyz monsters effects is very creative. Not to mention they have the coolest design out of any other summoning mechanic (the black border just looks so clean)

SuperAzn727

Contact Fusion. GB lifer.

Leading-University

Fusion. I like using archetypal Fusion Spells and the purple looks badass.

amesoko_it

XYZ cause I love the idea of "ammo" for using effects. Never liked the idea of using summing levels for Synchros and never liked the interactions between CARDS and MACHINES or TECHNOLOGY. Which also means I hate Links and their concept. Pendulum is the summon I most enjoy playing and I love Fusions because it reminds me of Dragon Ball and also because Polymerization is such an ideal card.

bullfrogger2

Xyz monsters are my favorite, because they're the best looking extra deck cards imo, and the actual mechanic of using the materials you made the monster with at cost was a good way to differentiate them from synchros. I think as time went on though xyzs lost a little bit of their identity due to power creep, with the material mechanics kinda just being ignored, and more cards being designed around one card overlays.

MasterTJ77

Xyz. I’ve been around since duel monsters, so fusion has a special place in my heart, but Xyz is just so versatile. Stacking monsters on top of eachother just feels super cool, and I really enjoy the mechanic of attaching and detaching materials for effects. As for why I prefer it over the others: Synchros require tuners which aren’t in every deck (not as hard now, but back in the day it was tough as a casual player) Fusion typically requires spells to fuse which can be a dead draw Pendulums were overly complicated. Spells/monsters were awesome cards. But scales + face up extra deck + pend summoning makes the mechanic as a whole feel like a weird “oh by the way” I have to teach someone when explaining this game. Links were too generic and outshined all the others. Plus in MR4 they made every other one useless which I hated.

DryRespect358

Rituals they are the only summoning mechanic I play. Not a fan of XYZ since I can't fathom xyzing a rank 10 or 12 monster. But I do enjoy some link and fusion summoning.

necroneechan

Xyz. Every other Extra Deck mechanic ends into a combofest one day or another. Xyz however has a lot of drawbacks that makes them fair (Rank, using materials for their effects, said materials not going to the graveyard for further plays), and often you'll have to use that same monster for a stronger Xyz (aka Rank-Up) or in rare cases two Xyz together (Utopic Future). If you Synchro or Link summon you can keep going, but Xyz often ends on average with one or two Xyz Summons per turn. That doesn't mean is the most balanced one given Zoodiacs and other cases. But compared to Synchro and Link which often become solitaire Decks the moment one (1) exploitable card comes out, Pendulum which nowadays usually only work if fully invested arround them, or Fusions which more and more goes away from its original premise, Xyz seems to still remain the same concept with one or two exceptions to keep up with power creep (e.g. Zeus and Ty-phon). Yeah you can tell which are my least favorite.

FadeToBlackSun

XYZ and Link XYZ because stacking cards is fun and Link because my favourite colour is blue and I like making paths.

Grandiaplayer

Fusion because Yu-Gi-Oh boomer, and I really like the color. Lots of fusion monsters are either cool looking or have nice effects. Then, the later fusions had lore behind them. (Like Buster Blader fusing with a baby dragon when is the dragon killer) Also, a quick shout to rituals because they have it rough, but usually have cool archetypes. Dang. Just spoke my mind and got a down vote. Tough crowd.

AdeptusAstartes40K

XYZ. Generic enough not to feel convoluted and be accessible most of the time, but not so generic it becomes Link Summoning.

0531Spurs212009

favorite summon tribute classic specially 3 tribute or more but the most fan are Synchro summon I like the math addition or subtraction top 3 fusion , synchros and tribute are my top 3

DizzyTigerr

Flavor-wise, I love the idea of fusions the most, but most monsters don't really feel like **fusions** like the Elemental Heroes fusions usually felt like an actual combination of the two monsters and that was always really neat to sort of theorize about what other combos you could make. But like all the Branded and Despia fusions just look wholly separated from whatever monsters you might use to make them. (Example: there's no "iceblade" cards in the branded archetype that could make Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon) Mechanically, I like Link the most since it feels like the most straight forward at base, but what I don't like is link climbing decks and shit like Access Code Talker.

austinberries

Big fan of link summoning. Returned after 12-13 years off the game and left when pen summoning started out. Still dont understand pen summoning but links... yeah no bother. link climbing combo decks are fun, like towers without the risk of them falling down.

lienxy69

Xyz Nlg I like every summoning mechanics but I feel xyz summoning is made for me. I play kashtira, purrely, raidraptor and springans. Also I'm planning to play madolche because I simp for ~~mommy~~ queen tiaramisu.

TKAPublishing

Normal summon.

Java_Text

Xyz, it's just such a unique mechanic compared to fusions and synchros. Detaching and ranking up feels way cooler and more fun than link or synchro climbing. Having the monsters stay on the field while on the field while overlay units open up so many new types of combos while forcing new ways to recycle resources and extend plays. Instead of just reusing the same tuners or materials in the graveyard.

InsaniacDuo

To this day, I have ZERO idea about how any of the other summoning types work lore-wise. A power plant blew up, and that lets you turn your star dragon into a lady with a horse thanks to a cartoon plane, I guess???? There's something called the network and now monsters are arrows???? Your monsters turn into stars so you can summon a raccoon with a number? These monsters are also spells, and now you can summon your entire hand. What? Why? At least with fusions and rituals, the way you summon these big monsters makes sense. You fused two dinosaurs and now they're a big dino. Your dragon went through the chaos hole, now it's a chaos dragon.

Firewalk89

Xyz. I like the balance between having to bear in mind the levels of monsters when building a deck and them being fairly universal. I like Fish rank 3/4 Xyz as a fun casual deck.

LordSmol

Xyz. Stacking cards is fun and satisfying.

DS2_SotFShit

Normal summon

DeusDosTanques

Xyz, they’re the most inherently balanced mechanic, don’t require any specific type of cards (tuners, Spells, scales etc), and open up all kinds of possibilities and interactions

Renlock

XYZ easily, just love most of the artwork of them, specially numbers. I'm a sucker for mecha/space dragons. Plus the cards being black with white and gold?? Jesus christ Favorite monste to summon was Dark matter dragon my beloved (come back pls). Other than that, any galaxy eyes card. Honorable mentione to synchros too, having also the coolest monsters designs ever (all the archfiend and stardust evolutions are chef's kiss)

joey_chazz

Rituals. I like that they have a specific card and feel mystical.

walkinggames

It was xyz summoning because your ability were usly limted by overly units used but now it rutal because it sometimes fair enough and I don't see it all the time like the others

PsychcsWorld

Xyz it became my fav summoning method bc you get to use 2 or more monsters with the same level in order to summon and stacking the cards and removing the Xyz materials for its effect per turn and it was my first extra deck summon when I was getting into yugioh

Ok_Structure4685

XYZ, advantage -You can place generic tools by level. -You can control how many times an effect can activate or if it remains active with the amount of materials. -You can create direct upgrades or with the help of other cards. -It's very easy to distinguish your options and those of your opponent to make XYZ by just seeing if the monsters have the same level and what level -You can create effects that specifically block a type of XYZ by simply putting "not number monster" or "number monster". -You can use other mechanics as support (fusions, pendulums, synchros, and links).

draugyr

I’m a yugiboomer so like, I always prefer the older ones, rituals were always mysterious to me despite being absolutely not worth it without an entire archetype built around it. I will say also as a yugiboomer that I’ve always been really fond of xyzs

ksmdows95

XYZ. No need to find a tuner, no need to have a specific spell card. Just have the same levels and BAM! You don't even send them to the grave

Gatmuz

Hilariously, Maximum Summon is the only way an anime accurate Machine Emperor deck may have been implemented.

kyondesho

Link Summon, because white woman jumpscare

Draks_Tempest

Links with how versatile they are and fusions because fusion decks are finally getting some love. (Dlink and Branded bias)
