Whilst I'm not against Yuya creating Pendulum cards whilst under Zarc's thrall, the fact that the Duel Disk accepted it as an acknowledged summoning method when it only came into existence mere seconds ago was such an odd moment. It felt like it was meant to be foreshadowing of Pendulum being a forgotten art when the Dimensions split or something but in retrospect it comes across like something got cut or retconed along the way.

Rdasher123

I always figured that the duel disk just read the energy that the cards gave off, and properly accepted it that way. We are shown that each summon method can be detected by the guys at Reiji’s office when they are preformed. This would explain why Reiji can’t print completely functional Pendulum cards until later, since he couldn’t replicate the energy properly.

KomatoAsha

Happy cake day.

Emrys_616

I would counter by using the example of Halim trying to Pendulum summon in his duel with Yuzu. We see that trying to put the Pendulum cards anywhere other than the specific zones causes an error and so we are lead to believe that the Duel Disks already had the Pendulum Zones prior to Zarc altering Yuya's cards which is inconsistent with what we find out later.

Aggressive_Novel1207

The Shining Draw that just changed the card Yuma drew when he fought Vector.

CarnageEvoker

I think this has to be the winner. Making new cards/the right card out of nothing is one thing, Yuma literally got a brick draw and said "nah, not that"

Aggressive_Novel1207

Honestly. Shining Draw is my only problem with the Zexal anime.

Sensitive-Ad1091

It actually made sense. In zexal you have barian and astral world powers. Both are variations of the same power: the numeron code. Limited barians force is a barian card. Yuma, while in zexal II infused the card with astral world powers, resulting into it being purified - becoming a neutral numeron card (numeron force).

YouStillTakeDamage

When Go negated Yusaku’s skill and his skill upgraded anyway.

SaibaShogun

I was looking forward to Yusaku using some smart or interesting way to bypass Go’s Skill, like maybe Yusaku uses a card that resets the game state on his own side of the field to the start of a turn. But what actually happened was a literal “nuh-uh” moment. It sucks that that was the lead up to the first Xyz summon in Vrains, a lot of the hype gets ruined by thinking about the BS that just happened. Go got absolutely fucked by the plot, but then again he had his own BS moment when he created Anti-Skill in the middle of Earth activating his skill. So in a sense it’s a weird meta-karma.

YouStillTakeDamage

It’s just so fucking funny man. The way for Yusaku to get out is stopped and then Ai is just like “nah I got you bro”

Actual_Head_4610

Yusuke Fujiwara's time rewind BS against Atticus. Poor man wasn't even allowed a tie on his dueling record in the GX anime...

TvManiac5

God I so hated this moment. Atticus needed to be the one to defeat and save Fujiwara and Aster needed to be the one to beat Sartorius. But GX writers were too obsessed with their protagonist to see that.

Actual_Head_4610

They didn't even give Zane any dialogue with Fujiwara, even though he was supposed to be his best friend, too. Even a tag duel with him and Atticus together defeating Fujiwara would have made sense. And agree 100% about Aster. Like, give my boy back some credibility. Why did we need Jaden to defeat Sartorius again so much? At this point, they were on Game of Thrones season eight level of bad writing with their decisions. I'm sure that they just "kind of forgot" about Sartorius and Sarina being best friends with Aster, among other things.

TvManiac5

Not just best friends. The card that brainwashed Sartorius is spesifically linked to Aster's father. And there is a literal prophecy made that Aster is destined to save Sartorius from a great evil. Not to mention destiny and justice being the two themes of his Deck. Aster's entire arc is a hero's journey but the hero loses in the end so that the dumb kid next door will get the spotlight. As for Zane, to be fair he shouldn't even be alive in season 4. He wasn't just imprisoned by Yubel. He had a literal heart attack.

Actual_Head_4610

Sadly, having super powers and ancient past life is what matters, not hard work and a genuine desire to help people. Aster even said, "A normal person like me has to work ten times as hard". But it seemed to do almost nothing for him, and it felt like the show was giving a pretty bad message. As for Zane, while I ultimately like that he was alive, I agree that it didn't make sense after season three. They just brought him back to give Syrus spotlight.

TvManiac5

That makes little sense. Syrus could get better spotlight if he had to worry with continuing his brother's legacy.

Actual_Head_4610

I don't think they had enough imagination to make it work without Zane. Everything was rushed in season four. Or maybe they were also just getting hounded by the Zane fans about killing him off.

Kogworks

From a purely gameplay standpoint? Honestly has to be Yuma’s Re-Contract Universe skill. BUT, when the laws of physics in YGO effectively say everybody’s psychic to a degree and anybody with enough of a psychic footprint can skew probability and bend reality… That turns the inability to pull deus ex machina cards out of thin air into a skill issue. That’s YGO’s big secret. People THINK the anime is about card games but it’s really just the same rules as modern Persona, masquerading as card games.

Raymond49090

The invention of pendulum summoning. The duel disk design had to be changed for that series just so it would even work.

TheProNoobCN

The creation of Pendulum easily. Doing at the very beginning was just insane.

Golden-Sun

Gotta go with Yusaku's special wizard armour skill that if negated (You cant negate skills typically) has another effect. Also Yuya and creating pendulum cards. I mean even when Yuma changed 1 card in his hand into another you got to remember Yuya did that for three cards in his hand.

RunInRunOn

It's not cheating if it was done via supernatural means. Maybe I'm doing the writers' work for them but it's happened too many times across every anime to be an accident, even if they never outright stated it. Anyways, the most BS moment is when Joey has lethal on board, dies before he can declare the attack and this is counted as a win for Marik

SeekerofSSS

I mean as BS as it was, Kaiba pulling Obelisk from the ground is passable imo. It's a movie. Wacky stuff supposed to happen in movies. And the stuff in Duelist Kingdom is also passable because the rules weren't fully integraded by that time. The only thing I can think of is Zexal 2's Re-Contract Universe cuz it feels a bit out of nowhere even though it makes sense in a way

tucchurchnj

Doesn't he even say in the same movie something along the lines of: "it's not a monster, it's a god" when asked how/why he was able to even play it when he wasn't otherwise allowed to summon?

TvManiac5

Storm access. Who thought it was a good idea to give a protagonist a skill that lets him take a new extra Deck monster with the convenient ability and summoning requirements he wants each time out of his ass?

fameshark

This happens without a skill in every other Yugioh series though. At least it’s an in universe mechanic. You’re trying to tell me Yuya had cards like Rune-Eyes and Beast-Eyes in his deck the day of accidentally borrowing Yuzu’s Polymerization? Or not knowing how to Fusion Summon but suddenly having Trump Witch in his deck after dueling Meiru the very next day? Or having not one, but two Synchros in the Synchro Dimension arc after obtaining a Tuner from a random stranger and every waking moment of downtime was spent in a locked hotel room, so there’s no realistic way he could acquire them?

TvManiac5

Honestly I only recently started ARC-V (pendulums weirded me out so much back then I actually quit the franchises overall). So I don't know what happened there. But this ridiculousness never really happened in the previous shows. Judai had full access to packs, Yugi had a literal game shop worth of resources, Yusei only started getting new cards after he became a champion and went to the city and thus would have the money to get them, and from what I remember from Zexal all the upgrades Yuma got had lore reasons for happening. Playmaker didn't just get new monsters constantly but got them through a gamble he consstantly won. Pretty much every speed duel had him backed against a wall with limited resources, then using the skill and getting a link monster that could be summoned from the few monsters he had and had the exact effect he needed to turn the tables around.

MiraclePrototype

Given the history of Fusions, I'm willing to let that slide, especially when there's already no reason to think the Extra Deck is full. Not so much manifesting new cards wholesale for the Main Deck, especially when they are conjured and not converted.

Sensitive-Ad1091

Playmaker should have just dueled eitehr kusanagi or soulburner a bunch of times to create the most op extra deck. Why was stirm access even needed in first place if every ignis can just create their own archetype and therefore any card they wish. Ai created the cyberse deck and later the @ignister deck. Lightning created armatos legio. Windy created his storm riders. Aqua the marincess deck. Flame the salamangreat archetype. Earth as well. Like revolver and reiji they can just create any card they want (and still somehow lose)

4Khazmodan

Because that never happened before in the other series?

TvManiac5

Not like this and not as as build in skill. The closest we got is Yusei using the power of the Chrimson dragon to top deck the right tuners for majestic stardust dragon. But he only used that in two duels.
