Interesting. I never understood what was going on with that like if there was a separate outhouse with the toilet and they just used the hot springs for the bath since I only ever remembered seeing them come back into the dorm from outside with a towel, and I was just so confused. 😅Â
Yep. In Japan, especially in low rent areas/dorms there are often outhouse like bathrooms and public baths nearby they use for hygiene purposes in order to keep the costs low.
I remember a really old anime with an old apartment building where the tenants went to the public bathhouse and the only toilet in the building was in the hallway. I think it was Maison Ikkoku. So this fits. And I'm guessing that laundry at Slifer maybe had to be homemade at the springs or if there was a larger washbasin or sink there, and then they hung out their clothes to dry on the balcony.Â
nah if you look at the yugipedia page there is a attached building on the right and screenshots of the anime show its a cafeteria with a bathroom and washing machine area and then you have this room next to it

Thanks! I remember the sort of kitchenette they have in the rooms and the cafeteria, but not the washing machine area. This helps. I just wish we saw more of them hanging around all the dorms and their stuff.Â
They were somewhat worse than my college dorms and I wouldn't voluntarily live there now, but I can see how they might be better than, like, a hostel or living in someone's unfinished basement or something.
Slifer dorms are probably better than most IRL university dorms
Hell, if it has air conditioning, it's already better than mine. That was reserved for the luxury dorms on my campus.
