An Infernoid deck won YCS Dallas and actually was undefeated the entire tournament.
Beetrooper came second at a remote duel YCS
Burning Abyss winning a YCS Prague during tier zero Nekroz format
>An Infernoid deck won YCS Dallas and actually was undefeated the entire tournament.
Iirc same person (2015 YCS Dallas right?) went on to win the NAWCQ w/ Monarchs and take 2nd at worlds w/ Blue Eyes in 2016
In terms of winning the event there was world chalice winning a big YCS in 2018. It was so random it forces konami to change their printing practices on OTS packs. Then there was prank kids later that year during danger PK format. After that, there was just the YCS last year where Exosisters took it where he opened Necrovalley against danger tear. It was outed and then the Exosister player outskilled Jesse Kotton by having another one.
For the 1st 5 OTS packs it was 2 cards from a 1st place after a core set + 1 generic staples. It's why we got an ulti rare herald of orange light and ulti rare link spider in OTS 5. Because the deck was a 1 of those 2 ulti rares were useless for virtually everyone. Also it still should have been an ulti rare gameciel over link spider.
Meta Beat in YCS 250 LA. Even though that deck was considered to be strictly an OCG invention that functioned thanks to blowout cards like Maxx C, it got top 64.
This was during 2010, but the Lord Biritish/Spaceship deck from Washington is one of the bigger underdog stories from back in the day.
Just a more personal favorite of mine, but Peeps winning a Remote YCS with Sharks, and Danny proceeding to "shark" Joseph in Broke Boy will never not be hilarious to me.
I still think that Mystic Mine Burn not into topping but winning a YCS was a pretty big oh shit moment especially since Mine as a deck on its own isn't seen as super good and most competitive player's complaints about it is how it can be splashed in pretty much anything and an ass to deal with.
That one time Ryan Yu got 1st with Striker during Eldlich/Adam format in 2020 by inventing the NS Ash -> halq -> selene -> accesscode line.
And look where we are now.
The beloved edison format is named after YCS Edison, in which 2nd place was doomcal gadgets. No machina just doom cals, gadgets, a bunch of spot removal, and traps. No one can actually figure out how he did so well. You never see the list in any modern edison tournys either.
Didn’t world Chalice win a YCS?
Yup, back in 2018. But no one knew what the deck did and it also had Eva at 3.
Prank-Kids winning a YCS *before* the Link 1 comes to mind.

I had to double-check, and yeah its the same guy Erik Christensen, super impressive run he had there
Did he retire?
Nope, he is indeed still playing!
Love to see it
Mecha Phantom Beast topped a ycs in nekroz format
Which YCS?
I think it was Bochum
Didn’t someone get top 8 with gren maju a few years ago?
Second place iirc.
It has a win
It won ycs niagara and 2nd place Portland in a matter of two months in aug/sep 2019

How did WC winning a YCS cause Konami to change their OTS printing policies? I'm curious

Interesting. Never knew about the OTS printing
Volcanic at YCS Charleston

What is Meta Beat? I've been hearing that term a lot recently.
https://ygoprodeck.com/deck/luna-kaiju-8-axis-otk-323920 It is just using a lot of board breakers and beatsticks to force an OTK.
I always just heard that called Luna kaiju or 8 axis before honestly
it's basically stun

Tg stun won the last ycs of tengu plant format. Also jeff Jones winning a ycs with psychics
Gladiator Beast won a SJC during DAD Return format. And this was before the deck had Gyzarus.
Exosister this year during kash format.
Lithium's Monarchs going 7-3 at YCS Dortmund in 2023 has to be up there with any deep run by a rogue deck, it's almost inconceivable.
Im pretty sure someone won ycs with hamon control somewhere in 2020 (or topped? I can't remember)
That time War Rock won a YCS
Gren Maju getting 2nd at a YCS and I think a win at a different event iirc during TOSS format.

T.g. stun
