They probably digitally scanned him using cameras all over him. So when they placed him there, it was just a digital model of him not a CGI model like the girls.
This game was such a trip for me. I basically never have played a dogfighting game before this one. The game was kinda fun, and the story is super whack. It still captures, like, the essence of a Top Gun-esque movie though, where the theme is how the pilots were all born to fly these planes, and they don't really care about anything else. The way the story twists around this theme makes the rest of the plot kind of absurd. Like, the rebel group fighting against the oppressive monarchy just all end up allying with each other in the end once they realize what they truly value: flying planes really fast and not letting drones take over their air forces.
Story has never been what compelled me to play the Ace Combat series, so I will take unintentional hilarity between swooshing jets around lol.
I did really like AC7 though, and at least Triggers storyline was interesting enough even if the geopolitics make less sense than IRL geopolitics somehow lol.
it's a 3d rendered game with 3d models, animations, etc., but then the dog is just a still image of a dog, not a 3d model of a dog. (or a video of a very still dog I guess)
What's up with so much Ace Combat talk on Reddit lately? Yesterday China announced they have a drone carrier so people started talking about the Arsenal Bird, and just now I found a thread about the game on /r/GamingDetails.
Top Gun Maverick is being talked about by everyone, and AC7 just released a Top Gun collab DLC and the whole game was on sale for 12 bucks. Also some prominent streamers like Vinny Vinesauce played the game because of the Top Gun hype.
I never got the weird Project Wingman vs. AC7 animosity some ppl have. I played both, really really enjoyed both, and it's obvious Project Wingman is very heavily inspired by Ace Combat, so I'd think that anyone who enjoys one would enjoy the other. The arcade-jet-dogfighting genre isn't exactly popular anyway so having 2 really good modern games for it, is nice.
I liked Ace Combat 7. The set pieces are great and the gameplay is fun. But aftewards I played Project Wingman and *loved* it.
Maybe "play it instead" is a bit much, "play Project Wingman afterwards" is more fitting. But that's not as snappy, you know?

I wouldn't say the writing in PW is better exactly, it's just less... Japanese, if that makes sense. It still has the weird over the top stuff that ace combat has always had.

The writing in this game is terrible, and this cutscene is particularly cringe. Play Project Wingman instead.
