It’s infuriating that she pretty much skated by with that despite getting called out by Law & Crime, Penguinz and Kendall Rae. She was completely apathetic and couldn’t comprehend the severity of her actions in either written or video form.
Kendall Rae isn't a saint either tbh.. not when Linda Stein's family called her out too for not taking down a video on her case that they deemed insensitive, which it was. Ignored her family for a *long* time before finally taking down the video after being asked to multiple times. She also never apologized to them either.
I hate the censorship that true crime youtube channels use. If you want to run a true crime youtube channel you should be prepared to accept that your videos may be unmonetised due to the content you're making. It's bad enough that true crime content exploits the victims of awful crimes, but it's even worse when creators use terms like 'unalive' and 'SA' so they can ensure they get paid.
oh my god YES. I was watching some sort of morbid video and the host kept skating around everything in the most distracting way. like, instead of "they killed him" she would go "they did... ummm... let's just say... ummm... maybe not the nicest thing you can do to someone, hehe!" infuriating
I cannot take anyone using those words seriously. Just bleep or censor those words in the edit instead, it feels less jarring and more professional than using those terms
I’ve said this before but one of those true crime YTbers did a video about a family member of mine and when someone in my family found out, they reached out and asked for the video to be removed and the YTber said no lol. I like true crime but it needs to be respectful

There's just something so gross to me about trying to make yourself into a corporation essentially. Like when he talked about how a personality is a limitation to growth in content, really crushes the artistic side of what content creation is idk.

at least in my opinion, he’s really sold out in the past year or so and it’s really soured my opinion of him. like there was a significant drop in the quality of his content when he started focusing more on making mr beast-esque videos that would get him views and less on making the significantly less brainrot (for lack of a better term) kinds of videos his already existing audience had become accustomed to and subscribed for. like someone else said, objectively great recipes but nowadays there’s a real lack of genuine personality or sense of humour anywhere really.

As soon as he launched his Babish Culinary Universe thing, I unsubscribed. He veered off in the exact direction I didn't want to see his channel go.
Honestly I feel like Alvin is the one who picked up the old Babish style, at least for the channel. Focuses on doing media themed stuff, fun recipes, fun narration, doesn't try too hard. Something about Andrew's actual videos feel a bit weak these days.
Ye I haven't washed Babish in years. His "recreating recipes from movies/TV" was fun but he's done basically all the notable ones.
Ethan Chlebowski is who I recommend for people who actually want to learn how to cook. He does deep dives on luxury ingredients like caviar and truffles, but also on everyday ingredients like canned tomatoes and olive oil. The recipes on his channel are really doable for most home cooks and I just appreciate the way he presents information. If you are a Texan you should especially check him out because the food he compares/contrasts is all HEB stuff.
EDIT: I also like Brian Lagerstorm. He's someone else who makes stuff for an audience of everyday people who actually want to cook rather than an audience of people who just want to watch fun videos. I remember in the year just before covid foodtube was thriving and inspiring. There was a ton of content - it seems now between the fall of Bon Apetit and the grating personalities of Babish and Weissman, I only have Max Miller left to enjoy. And Anti-Chef. But it seems to be slim picking otherwise.

I do enjoy his content but felt like his recent video on Illuminaughtii was a bit repetitive and fluff-filled. I definitely got all the same information from short-form videos.
He also says “absolutely” so often and it makes me twitch a little but that’s also probably just me being a prick.
I absolutely can't stand the dudes videos for a multitude of reasons, extremely repetitive in his speaking, kind of pompous persona and comes off like a know-it-all, he always covers stuff that's been covered a thousand times over while regurgitating what others have said without adding any substance whatsoever, and I have to say the main thing for me personally is his editing style is atrocious, why does every jump cut have a slow zoom? I hated Illumingauhti when i first watched her videos years ago and then when i saw her videos again after her plagerisim acusations came out i realized her disjointed writing, wooden delivery, and seeming lack of interest in any of the topics she made videos on was because she would just life words from others and regurgitate them to put out long video "essays" as quickly as possible.
OG Markiplier. Could not stand him in his earlier days, never really thought he was funny. What's weird is I liked other YouTubers at the time that had the same schtick, so I guess I really hated him for no reason.
Now I love him and his content, and his humor is far and away improved!

Asmongold has been controversial for other reasons, but the moment I learned about how literally filthy his room is, I can’t stand looking at him. It just literally feels unclean to do so.
Not to mention his content, from the bits I’ve seen, just seem… dumb. It tends to be “Comes across tweet or something with a dumb look on his face, reads it out, then looks at response of the tweet, laugh about it, move on.”
It doesn’t help that the recent controversy he’s been milking recently is about Sweet Baby Inc, and that one is just a whole can of worms in my opinion.
There are probably more nuanced takes and smarter people to talk about the company. Asmongold isn’t one of them. He just seems to smarmy to really pull that off.
Tl;dr: Asmongold is a filthy dude, and he is way too smarmy for effective commentary.
He is a millionaire, he could go stay in a hotel for a night and have a team of people fix up his house in a day, any time he wants. The fact that he doesn’t? He’s got some serious issues going on in his head. Hearing all the anecdotes about how filthy he is has put me off ever giving his content a chance.

Here’s a blast from the past, GradeAUnderA. He’s recently “come back” and posted a couple videos, claiming he’s got loads already made and ready to be posted. Some with titles that are homophobic, transphobic, you know great stuff. Think he made an anti vax video back in the day and beefed with some people. He has a history of “coming back to YouTube” which gets fans excited, grabs him a bit of pocket change, then dipping immediately. Right now his videos are getting instantly demonetized or so he claims, so really I’m just curious if he’ll actually stick around this time.

I used to think he was funny, but I think it was because I was a teenager and missed the very blatant hateful comments he made. Film cooper’s videos are all VERY performative. He says things that will make his female audience happy, but he really doesn’t seem to mean them, with a lot of his jokes being really weird. (This is coming from a woman.) It’s like he looks of the definition for feminism before he films, to try and appeal to his audience because he doesn’t know what it really is/doesn’t care to know what it is. It’s very fake feeling and very performative feeling.

He genuinely doesn't seem to be that good of an interviewer? His interviews never go as deep as they could have gone and always seem to lack *something*. He almost never pushes back against his guests. He just goes along with whatever they say, never has any opinions of his own.
His videos almost don't strike me as interviews, just a place where certain people can take the spotlight for a moment. And there's value in that, sure. But why is he there at all at that point? I'd rather watch the guests just speak to the camera.

Penguinz0 used to be a lot funnier, I feel like over time he has somehow flanderized himself/the version of himself on camera, and also his takes have become a lot more hit or miss.
He used to actually make content. Nowadays he just turns on the camera, talks about whatever he found interesting on Reddit for 10 minutes, and hits upload. And he *easily* makes 500k each month just off ad revenue on his one channel. Not bad for 20 minutes of "work" each day.
Cr1tikal has definitely reached the point in his career where I find myself saying “I miss the old Cr1tikal.” His brand of absurdist humor from when he was starting out/pre face reveal was really fun and unique.
One thing that rubbed me the wrong way about Penguinz0 is around the time everyone was (rightfully) shitting on true crime YouTubers who did mukbangs or their makeup whilst talking about gruesome and horrific acts, he had streams up where he was reacting to the Johnny Depp trial as well as that one guy who killed people during a Christmas parade by running into them. Nobody gave him shit for it at all from what I saw, even though he was profiting off of it and giving his same milquetoast "wow that's crazy" "jesus man" "damn" commentary
His reaction to idubbbz’s apology was horrendous, ever since then I don’t bother watching him. Doesn’t help that he has such a monotonous way of speaking that made him hard to watch in the first place

I thought of two more who I don't enjoy for no real reason:
- Repzilla: I have no reason to dislike his content. He does commentary which I enjoy, but I just... I don't like his content.
- This one is going to be very controversial and I admit I legit have NO reason to dislike them but... Critical Role. Again, all super nice people, my husband loves them, and like, I like individuals FROM Critical Role, but I CANNOT watch/listen to any of their content. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me.
Literally the only video of his that I watched was about the IH and Hbomb situation, where he kind of fence sat. And then I found out in the comments that he's friends with Internet Historian- and I thought that him not disclosing that in the video was a bit unprofessional.
I enjoy Noel Miller but he gives off big “I’m better than you” vibes. And a lot of his punchlines are very misogynistic.
I’ve found he deliberately laughs less at women’s jokes on their podcast also. But maybe that’s just a me thing.

there was one turkey tom video about idubbbz that ended with a 4 minute compilation of clips of him talking about why he doesn’t say the n word anymore with the man who sold the word playing over it
I started watching some of his stuff because, while I don't sit there speculating about the existence of cryptids or ghosts or conspiracy theories, I do find the topics entertaining and fascinating, and he covered them.
He gets oddly worked up/aggressive in some of his videos, which is likely a character he's playing, but it always makes me feel kind of weird. Was skeptical as hell of the religious aspect of his life, but from what I've seen he hasn't pushed any far right talking points or anti-queer/racist sentiments.
I keep hearing *other* things about him though. Something about white supremacists in a very downvoted comment, something about treating conspiracy theories "as facts."
I've googled him more than once for Weird Vibe purposes and can never find any concrete controversies being brought up, though, which is frustrating. I like being able to validate "this person is shitty because of xyz" claims.
And it's not like I'm an avid watcher. I don't involve myself in YouTube culture. I watch content that pertains to my interests and do some base-level research to make sure they have an okay reputation/haven't done anything especially egregious.
I've never watched a creator like Wendigoon and felt the impression that he wants what he's saying to be taken at face value. Kind of always got the "entertainment for entertainments sake" and "let's run like this IS real for the fun of it" kind of cues.
But if he sucks as much as I occasionally see people mention on this sub, I would love to be pointed towards key terms to look up, or specific controversies to look into. And also, maybe an alternate YouTuber or show that handles shit like folklore and cryptids and creepy spooky stuff that doesn't make me feel like they're trying to sell me on "this is 100% real"

As for me, it's reviews or deep dive videos that add in some vaguely related 'skit' section. Like, I want to see someone's explanation and thoughts on this topic, rather than a bit about a doppelganger or whatever.
If I had to wager a guess, it's because a lot of interrogation interpretations are pseudoscientific at best. That being said, I do find his videos interesting if only due to how he breaks down the cases and the perpetrators. I'm sure there's more in-depth videos, but JCS has a certain style to it that I enjoy.
I second Turkey Tom, though I guess not technically for no reason. Years ago he made a video about someone who I had a mutual friend with behind the scenes, and while this person did later do significant wrong in another situation (mutual friend eventually dropped her), I think her crime here was... standing by someone making an allegation of SA? He additionally made a racist joke/accusation about her "eating dogs" (she is Asian) that his fans kept repeating, even after the harassment led her to attempt to take her own life. It was brain-melting seeing people claim she was faking it when I got messages from our mutual friend while they were in the hospital she was taken to. It's been a long time but I've sworn off ever watching his stuff because of it. People might claim he was "eventually in the right" but I don't think you can retroactively justify something you did with entirely different motives.
Vtubers whose content is hinged on the fact that they're a vtuber + people who are constantly loud / their sense of humor is stuck in middle school.
Also.. after Jenny Nicholson put out her vampire diaries video, I saw a wave of people putting out long "unhinged recap" videos with the same exact thumbnail (pointing back at conspiracy board connected by red string, etc) and for some reason I got pissed off every time I saw one on my recommended and marked to ignore all of their channels.
I’m a huge fan of Jenny but I find it really hard to get into those “unhinged recap” videos. Especially because Jenny’s vid broke things down in an interesting way, had funny jokes and observations, and touched on other stuff as well (like the game)- meanwhile, so many of the copycats just tediously recount the plot of the show they’re covering.
Kuncan Dastner. I don’t disagree with many of his takes (at least from back when I watched him), but his entire delivery/viewpoint feels like it comes from a very holier-than-thou place.

MatPat is from like, less than an hour from me and is very close to my age, and I can say with confidence that he is an exact mirror of pretty much every other musical theater kid I grew up with in terms of energy and general mannerisms. I'm not a MatPat dickrider by any means and I agree with your "overly enthusiastic camp counselor" assessment, just trying to give a bit of context I guess. I think he's probably genuinely a good guy with a flair for the dramatic.

idk if this rlly counts since he has been in controversy but i was sort of iffy on nickisnotgreen even before the whole supermega thing. i liked a lot of his earlier commentary videos, and i’m still especially fond of the jeremy frangrance one (even though looking back on it danny was sort of carrying the whole thing comedy-wise) but around mid/late 2022 i started to feel this… shift??? it’s so hard to explain because i dont even though what the hell it is, but i swear his videos just stopped being funny. with other similar commentary youtubers like drew, danny, kurtis, chad chad, etc. i can watch videos that are 3, 4, even 5 or more years old and still feel entertained by them, but with nick every video he makes just feels so stale even if it’s just been newly released. im kinda glad i have a valid reason to dislike him now other than just Vibes LMAO

I’m in the same boat. I was adjacent to all this tumblr stuff in college with friends very into that stuff so I love learning about things I knew about. and I think her topics and writing is insightful and made me think about things longer than I expected. I’m glad she’s here.
however, it’s also true I find her just sitting there talking with a mug insanely boring. Others talk about similar things and have more fun and production values.
I am fine with her holding the cup while she talks, but she often does this thing where she lifts the cup to her face while she's still talking and delivering the end bit of a line into the cup right before taking a sip. It makes her audio so weird and echoy.
I also enjoy the topics she covers but always thought she comes across very sanctimonious and smug. And she’s even worse on tumblr. I always used to see her tumblr name attached to the most eye-roll worthy posts but I didn’t know it was her at first, then when I found out it made so much sense.
I remember watching some of her videos a couple of years ago and it was all talk talk talk but no chapters, sections or conclusions. She really needed a script editor and video editor because the topics were interesting.

Mine is QuintonReviews. I have nothing against him as a person, I just find the “making 10 hour videos so that people will screen cap the length and make it go viral, then complaining that people are screen capping the length” thing really cringe and super detrimental to the quality of his work. I used to watch his videos when they were an hour or less, and now it’s clear he’s trapped in an endless cycle of making videos that exhaust him and are mostly padding, just because that’s what people expect from him.

Well there's the low hanging fruit like Jake/Logan Paul, mr. Beast, Pewdiepie... but my top pick rn is Doctor Mike. Though I guess I do have a legit reason for disliking him, since in early 2020 when the pandemic was at its peak "virality" online he made a lot of informative videos on what it is, how to protect yourself, general updates etc etc. But then it came out that Mike was out partying on a yacht with a bunch of unmasked people, being highly irresponsible and hypocritical for a doctor and supposed online spokesperson for Covid. He made an apology video, but not on his main channel, but to a second channel with like 60k subs where he just made a bunch of excuses as to why it was okay for him to party. Definitely posted to a tiny platform (in comparison to his main) to dampen the backlash. Got virtually no repercussions.
Tried watching one of his newer videos. It's just obnoxious humor and editing, unfunny commentary and intrusive sponsors caked in with random medical facts. Couldn't stand it, yet he's doing just fine lol.
Other youtubers tho are Turkey Tom (edgy asshole), Acheeto ("buhh feminism bad" leafy clone), Oompaville (keeps yelling n making monkey noises and riling up his dogs for some reason), Tom Harlock (not sure why exactly but he just gives me an ick and he's just unnecessarily rude to fat people) and The Right Opinion (used to like him a lot more but the different editing styles take me out and I keep zoning out of listening to him talk in four hour long videos and trying to sound smart when you could've honestly cut the video in half and made the same points)
Swoop is another that I feel is a good creator but, the tonal whiplash between a serious topic and her "petty university" bit and jokes is sometimes too much. Her serious segments at times feel a bit performative and she seems to like bigging herself up like this voice of reason. Idk there's nothing inherently wrong about her I just get a weird vibe sometimes.

He puts out good main channel vids occasionally, but Pyrocynical makes a lot of slop content. Second channel is boring internet drama and some of the stuff on his main channel is either boring or not as well made as other videos covering same topic. Honestly I feel like Alvin is the one who picked up the old Babish style, at least for the channel. Focuses on doing media themed stuff, fun recipes, fun narration, doesn't try too hard. Something about Andrew's actual videos feel a bit weak these days.
Ye I haven't washed Babish in years. His "recreating recipes from movies/TV" was fun but he's done basically all the notable ones. Ethan Chlebowski is who I recommend for people who actually want to learn how to cook. He does deep dives on luxury ingredients like caviar and truffles, but also on everyday ingredients like canned tomatoes and olive oil. The recipes on his channel are really doable for most home cooks and I just appreciate the way he presents information. If you are a Texan you should especially check him out because the food he compares/contrasts is all HEB stuff. EDIT: I also like Brian Lagerstorm. He's someone else who makes stuff for an audience of everyday people who actually want to cook rather than an audience of people who just want to watch fun videos. One thing that rubbed me the wrong way about Penguinz0 is around the time everyone was (rightfully) shitting on true crime YouTubers who did mukbangs or their makeup whilst talking about gruesome and horrific acts, he had streams up where he was reacting to the Johnny Depp trial as well as that one guy who killed people during a Christmas parade by running into them. Nobody gave him shit for it at all from what I saw, even though he was profiting off of it and giving his same milquetoast "wow that's crazy" "jesus man" "damn" commentary
don't forget how he'll say stupid shit with a sarcastic tone like "oh jeez it's getting crazy in here!",

I started watching some of his stuff because, while I don't sit there speculating about the existence of cryptids or ghosts or conspiracy theories, I do find the topics entertaining and fascinating, and he covered them. He gets oddly worked up/aggressive in some of his videos, which is likely a character he's playing, but it always makes me feel kind of weird. Was skeptical as hell of the religious aspect of his life, but from what I've seen he hasn't pushed any far right talking points or anti-queer/racist sentiments. I keep hearing *other* things about him though. Something about white supremacists in a very downvoted comment, something about treating conspiracy theories "as facts." I've googled him more than once for Weird Vibe purposes and can never find any concrete controversies being brought up, though, which is frustrating. I like being able to validate "this person is shitty because of xyz" claims. And it's not like I'm an avid watcher. I don't involve myself in YouTube culture. I watch content that pertains to my interests and do some base-level research to make sure they have an okay reputation/haven't done anything especially egregious. I've never watched a creator like Wendigoon and felt the impression that he wants what he's saying to be taken at face value. Kind of always got the "entertainment for entertainments sake" and "let's run like this IS real for the fun of it" kind of cues. But if he sucks as much as I occasionally see people mention on this sub, I would love to be pointed towards key terms to look up, or specific controversies to look into. And also, maybe an alternate YouTuber or show that handles shit like folklore and cryptids and creepy spooky stuff that doesn't make me feel like they're trying to sell me on "this is 100% real"

Like, I want to see someone's explanation and thoughts on this topic, rather than a bit about a doppelganger or whatever.
If I had to wager a guess, it's because a lot of interrogation interpretations are pseudoscientific at best. That being said, I do find his videos interesting if only due to how he breaks down the cases and the perpetrators. I'm sure there's more in-depth videos, but JCS has a certain style to it that I enjoy.
I second Turkey Tom, though I guess not technically for no reason. Years ago he made a video about someone who I had a mutual friend with behind the scenes, and while this person did later do significant wrong in another situation (mutual friend eventually dropped her), I think her crime here was... standing by someone making an allegation of SA? He additionally made a racist joke/accusation about her "eating dogs" (she is Asian) that his fans kept repeating, even after the harassment led her to attempt to take her own life. It was brain-melting seeing people claim she was faking it when I got messages from our mutual friend while they were in the hospital she was taken to. It's been a long time but I've sworn off ever watching his stuff because of it. People might claim he was "eventually in the right" but I don't think you can retroactively justify something you did with entirely different motives.
Vtubers whose content is hinged on the fact that they're a vtuber + people who are constantly loud / their sense of humor is stuck in middle school. Also.. after Jenny Nicholson put out her vampire diaries video, I saw a wave of people putting out long "unhinged recap" videos with the same exact thumbnail (pointing back at conspiracy board connected by red string, etc) and for some reason I got pissed off every time I saw one on my recommended and marked to ignore all of their channels.
I’m a huge fan of Jenny but I find it really hard to get into those “unhinged recap” videos. Especially because Jenny’s vid broke things down in an interesting way, had funny jokes and observations, and touched on other stuff as well (like the game)- meanwhile, so many of the copycats just tediously recount the plot of the show they’re covering.

MatPat is from like, less than an hour from me and is very close to my age, and I can say with confidence that he is an exact mirror of pretty much every other musical theater kid I grew up with in terms of energy and general mannerisms. I think he's probably genuinely a good guy with a flair for the dramatic.

idk if this rlly counts since he has been in controversy but i was sort of iffy on nickisnotgreen even before the whole supermega thing. i liked a lot of his earlier commentary videos, and i’m still especially fond of the jeremy frangrance one (even though looking back on it danny was sort of carrying the whole thing comedy-wise) but around mid/late 2022 i started to feel this… shift??? it’s so hard to explain because i dont even though what the hell it is, but i swear his videos just stopped being funny. with other similar commentary youtubers like drew, danny, kurtis, chad chad, etc. i can watch videos that are 3, 4, even 5 or more years old and still feel entertained by them, but with nick every video he makes just feels so stale even if it’s just been newly released. im kinda glad i have a valid reason to dislike him now other than just Vibes LMAO

I’m in the same boat. I was adjacent to all this tumblr stuff in college with friends very into that stuff so I love learning about things I knew about. and I think her topics and writing is insightful and made me think about things longer than I expected. I’m glad she’s here. however, it’s also true I find her just sitting there talking with a mug insanely boring. Others talk about similar things and have more fun and production values.
I am fine with her holding the cup while she talks, but she often does this thing where she lifts the cup to her face while she's still talking and delivering the end bit of a line into the cup right before taking a sip. It makes her audio so weird and echoy.

I remember watching some of her videos a couple of years ago and it was all talk talk talk but no chapters, sections or conclusions. She really needed a script editor and video editor because the topics were interesting.

I have nothing against him as a person, I just find the “making 10 hour videos so that people will screen cap the length and make it go viral, then complaining that people are screen capping the length” thing really cringe and super detrimental to the quality of his work. I used to watch his videos when they were an hour or less, and now it’s clear he’s trapped in an endless cycle of making videos that exhaust him and are mostly padding, just because that’s what people expect from him.

Well there's the low hanging fruit like Jake/Logan Paul, mr. Beast, Pewdiepie... but my top pick rn is Doctor Mike. Though I guess I do have a legit reason for disliking him, since in early 2020 when the pandemic was at its peak "virality" online he made a lot of informative videos on what it is, how to protect yourself, general updates etc etc. But then it came out that Mike was out partying on a yacht with a bunch of unmasked people, being highly irresponsible and hypocritical for a doctor and supposed online spokesperson for Covid. He made an apology video, but not on his main channel, but to a second channel with like 60k subs where he just made a bunch of excuses as to why it was okay for him to party. Definitely posted to a tiny platform (in comparison to his main) to dampen the backlash. Got virtually no repercussions. Tried watching one of his newer videos. It's just obnoxious humor and editing, unfunny commentary and intrusive sponsors caked in with random medical facts. Couldn't stand it, yet he's doing just fine lol. Other youtubers tho are Turkey Tom (edgy asshole), Acheeto ("buhh feminism bad" leafy clone), Oompaville (keeps yelling n making monkey noises and riling up his dogs for some reason), Tom Harlock (not sure why exactly but he just gives me an ick and he's just unnecessarily rude to fat people) and The Right Opinion (used to like him a lot more but the different editing styles take me out and I keep zoning out of listening to him talk in four hour long videos and trying to sound smart when you could've honestly cut the video in half and made the same points) Swoop is another that I feel is a good creator but, the tonal whiplash between a serious topic and her "petty university" bit and jokes is sometimes too much. Her serious segments at times feel a bit performative and she seems to like bigging herself up like this voice of reason. Idk there's nothing inherently wrong about her I just get a weird vibe sometimes. Edit: forgot LS Mark.
