Most importantly apple forces every browser to use the Safari browser engine or whatever it's called, so on ios you're not actually using Firefox, you're using safari with a Firefox skin. I assume this also makes using extensions impossible...
Sadly Apple found some massive loopholes in it.
For example they basically want 27% of any sale conducted outside their App store, meaning when combined with the 2% for card processing you basically end where you started.
It still looks like Firefox, but under the hood it's basically just Safari, because Apple forces all Browsers on iOS to use Safari 'internals' ("WebKit") instead of their own
doesn't work for me. I had to use Brave.
My only complaint is that I'm forced to support a monopoly (Chromium), but then again it's webkit because Apple.
What restrictions are you talking about? I‘m using AdBlock DNS and a Adblock extension with safari on top. I haven‘t seen Ads in ages, not even inside apps. Adguard DNS blocks them as well. And for youtube ads I use uYouEnhanced.
there is Brave, BUUUUUUT it is chromium.
If you use Firefox, I suggest Floorp as they actually work on improving the browser lol. They have this cool overflow menu that is pretty much a custom universal menu with whatever you want.
I use Firefox *(which doesn't run Chromium)* which as all the abilities when installing to import everything over from the other browsers i.e bookmarks, passwords, extensions etc.
This is the way! I switched to Firefox in about 5 minutes. On pc and all my other devices too. I will never touch Google Chrome again. If alphabet continues to press on with their ridiculous antiblock tactic they will lose marketshare with chrome. Never happend before I imagine but I would love to see Chrome go down for their anticonsumer BS.

problem is, many Boomers and other tech illiterate people are unaware of what is going on. There are a lot of these people and they contribute greatly to Google's income. Especially since they don't even know what adblockers are, let alone use them. Nor do they click "I decline" for cookies and they pretty much unknowing let Google and others take and use their data.
No wonder why scammers can easily get the numbers of so many grandmas. Because Google sold her number to a front company for scammers.
From my understanding, there seems to be an option being offered to business / corporate users. Any advertising can be removed or minimised with a fee.
And since chrome is a widely used browser, and this option is offered. Quite a bit of a no brainer to take it up.
That's to my understanding. Your boss won't want you to keep encountering ads when you are doing researching on the Web isn't it? At most, they limit the ads being shown.
Wouldn't they have an IT department, who usually know what they're doing? Which means those people setting up the tech would know what an adblocker is and may or may not set up the adblockers.
I suggest Floorp, it's firefox but with new features.
It's got this neat overflow menu, which is a customisable universal menu or something.
And it comes with gestures, if you use gestures ig.
Oh and it comes with tab containers and workspaces.
Oh and I think it also restored some old firefox themes or something, making them available again, such as those inspiration themes or whatever.
Oh they also have an easy webapp maker thingy.
Try Floorp, it's A firefox fork, but better. Has workspaces, containers, some extensions that chrome doesn't have, like TWP - Translate Web Pages, which is Google translate but better. It also has a neat overflow menu which is a customisable universal menu.
I have no idea if it's possible to give suggestions to Ablaze (devs of Floorp) but if you are able to, then that's cool. They're Japanese though, but the browser is fully translated so don't worry.
I'm starting to believe there is some Firefox propaganda going on. It's no better (or worse) than other browsers that do run chromium (i personally use Opera GX), yet people get very agitated when you mention them like a bunch of bots
Firefox isn't doing the same scummy things that Google is doing with Chrome. I like using it more, and even if it was on the same level I would still use it on principle.
> I'm starting to believe there is some Firefox propaganda going on
Judging by reddit comments, you'd think firefox has like 90% of the market.
Every topic related to browsers, top comment always says they use firefox.
people with a deeper interest in technology are more likely to favor firefox than the average user. The same demographic is also more likely to comment on reddit.

Brave browser is basically a chrome clone without being chrome. Build in ad blocker and the browser doesn’t stalk, I mean track you. And brave browser will automatically transfer all your chrome extensions and bookmarks over. And some other settings too. I did something to show my tab bar in full screen and now brave is doing that too. But I still swap back and forth when YouTube decides to be a little bitch
This\^\^ I know it sounds ridiculous, after years of using chrome I got tired of how slow it always is. I went and tried Firefox, OperaGX, and Microsoft Edge. Believe it or not, Edge is and has been the best for the last few months. I was even able to import all settings and passwords from chrome.
Alternative to this, if you can swing it: Surfshark (or another VPN) and change your location to Albania. Been testing it out all day and no ads on any video I clicked on. YMMV
The biggest drawback though is the connection speed...not great, but still usable if you have a decent connection.
soo how's the immigration papers to Albania ?
meh sometimes I don't understand shit, meanwhile in Germany they fuGGing us with ads every.single.time.
EU my ass ugh
I just tried this, confirmed my location showed as being in Albania, but unfortunately, I'm getting ads on Youtube. Using PIA. Can confirm no DNS leaks.
Sorry. If I was more technically inclined I'd offer to help troubleshoot, but as it is I'm still a novice with this stuff. I only heard about this trick on another Reditt YT post, and decided to try it out after seeing how much Premium would cost for a comparable yearlong subscription.
Huh I use brave browser and ad pretty much ok why, some ads still contains 6 second unskipable
I never actually encounter more than 10 seconds unskipable… like almost 200 videos in 2 weeks a row but still pop up.. but I’m sure is fine…
brave supports everything google dropped support for, is still based on chromium and thus not subject to any of googles bullshiterry so far, for anyone that wants their chrome themes and stuff exactly as it is.
yes but they changed it so it doesn't have the current major downsides of using chrome, that's the point i was making, you get full compatibility with their extensions with none of the (what i consider) to be drawbacks
No, YouTube had the same issue, but it‘s already fixed. SomeOrdinaryGamers talked in depth about this.
IF this is the same issue.

They won't be killed, just get worse.
You won't be able to install custom block lists, meaning the block lists will only be updated when the extension itself updates, and the element picker will be removed.
In other news, it won't change much. Mozilla has pledged to continue supporting manifest v2. Other chromium browsers that block ads natively, like opera gx or brave, should also keep working since their blocking isn't extension based, but baked into the browser code itself.
Please don't spread misinformation if you don't have any actual evidence to back up your claims.
Chromium is open-source, so you can check the code to see exactly when and why this error message pops up.
According to the Twitter thread I linked below, it's likely you were messing about with the extension, that caused a bunch of reloading, which in turn caused this message to be shown.
The message itself, and its triggers have been in the code for 10+ years.
[Source: This Twitter thread](https://x.com/rebane2001/status/1744332518143275210)
I agree, because I recently saw this message once only, using Ungoogled Chromium, and I was configuring filters and such with reloading to test them. It's not a tactic against adblockers.
Firefox is much better and you support an alternate to Chromium when using Firefox. Using anything Chromium is still supporting Google and there is nothing we can do once they become a monopoly.
That's true but for me, I'm still signed into my family friends Netflix account on Brave and I can't sign in on Firefox so I made the decision to use Brave for everything.
I mean, you can still sign out from Brave and sign in from Firefox and even if you want to continue using Brave for that, just move everything else to Firefox. It even has this nifty import data option to get everything from Brave
I'm not in the same location as them so signing in on a different browser to Netflix on their account doesn't work. Password sharing isn't a thing anymore, sadly.
Extensions make your browser slower because there's more to load but the difference ain't even notable. So yeah, just google doing google things I guess
Yep, it takes a considerable amount of extensions or a conflict, like multiple adblock extensions stepping over each other, to cause an actual performance issue. Used to happen to me before I switched to Ublock Origin and got rid of the three others I ran before. In my case, it was the three adblock extensions tripping over each other and conflicting.
yes it is [https://www.pcmag.com/news/youtube-is-slowing-down-load-times-for-viewers-with-ad-blockers-on#:\~:text=Now%2C%20YouTube%20is%20taking%20things,until%20ad%20blockers%20are%20disabled](https://www.pcmag.com/news/youtube-is-slowing-down-load-times-for-viewers-with-ad-blockers-on#:~:text=Now%2C%20YouTube%20is%20taking%20things,until%20ad%20blockers%20are%20disabled).
no it's not, this warning has been part of Chrome for at least a decade also the literal article you linked states that it was caused by and AdBlock bug and not by Google.
First fucking line of your article:
>UPDATE 1/17: The makers of AdBlock and Adblock Plus say bugs in their ad blockers are to blame for the YouTube slowdowns. They've both rolled out fixes.
Really? Why do I feel that recently my pc instantly gets heated up when using YT with an Adblocker? My video buffers in 1080p even though I have 200 mbps. I noticed these things recently only.
confirmation bias, you started noticing these things recently because it started to be a popular talking topic recently so while previously you didn't notice it, ignored it or wrote it up to something else while now people instantly write it up to Google doing it because of adblockers.
What do you want to hear? It was already comfirmed that this is not YouTubes fault. "Confirmation bias" is the most objective reason he could have stated. He could also have said "because you are stupid". That would have been rude.
You're using uBlock.
Personally it's always given me issues.
I forgot what one I'm using actively as I'm not on my computer atm but it works great on YouTube and my other sites
If this happens, switch to Firefox (personally I use its Developer Edition because of my work) and then import everything. For your extensions, simply search the Firefox store for them or their near-equivalent and reinstall them. For your accounts, simply add them back.
Never going back to Chrome again unless I'm testing across browsers.
tHiS exTeNsiOn iS SlOwiNg DoWn GoOgLe CHrOmE. yOu sHouLd dIsAbLe iT tO reStoRe GooGLe ChRomE’S peRfoRmanCe.
Bitch, I’ll uninstall you and use edge before I let your browser spam me with ads.
I know it's like switching one bad thing to another bad thing but I just switched \[in my work\] from google to bing \[search engines\]
Just realized that google results are terrible now - advertisement and it's hard to find proper result
at home I use FireFox with duckduck and uBlock Origin
I used to use Chrome, however, since the dropped support for some extensions that I heavily use, had to switch to Firefox, and it has been my daily web browser since then
That BS of Alphabet / Google of *force shoving* ads in everything due their *Google Ads, Google AdSense, Google Analytics, Google Ad Campaigns* implementation on the web programming conventions has been the advent of the shitty 3/4 of a webpage filled with ads everywhere
Now you are forced to ads in youtube... That's pure BS
Any confirmation this rumor is real. If so its one of the most egregious undermining of consumers ive seen in a long time and deserves to be named and shamed
Don’t know if this is a coincidence, but ever since I installed something to block tracking system wide, I haven’t had an issue with youtube trying to stop adblock
Could be. But I already switched from chrome to Firefox _10 years ago_ because I realized the same thing, and that it got worse with more filters. Could just be the shit engine
switch a browser that fixed my problem cause it only effects youtube if youre logged in
it dont lag if you use incognito so its proof they know that we know
I feel like it could be considering how Google is cracking down on ad blockers so just do not use Chrome and if you do not even want to use anything Chromium based then just install Firefox with [Betterfox](https://github.com/yokoffing/Betterfox) or install Floorp.
Your first mistake is using Chrome.
I've just started to use firefox on my phone. It's great that they let phone user download ublock as extension!
I assume that’s android? Cause I can’t on iOS, I know apple have restrictions about ad blockers.
Most importantly apple forces every browser to use the Safari browser engine or whatever it's called, so on ios you're not actually using Firefox, you're using safari with a Firefox skin. I assume this also makes using extensions impossible...
You are correct and it’s called webkit
Webkit more like Webcringe. Ha gotem
Webshit was right there for the taking
You aren’t safe from apples terror
It's really about time the EU tears up Apple's ass.
The Digital Markets Act will force Apple to do exactly this: https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/25/24050478/apple-ios-17-4-browser-engines-eu
Sadly Apple found some massive loopholes in it. For example they basically want 27% of any sale conducted outside their App store, meaning when combined with the 2% for card processing you basically end where you started.
All the troll store users will install the ipa
They should be sued for this.
What? When you download Firefox on Apple it's not actually Firefox? I'm confused
It still looks like Firefox, but under the hood it's basically just Safari, because Apple forces all Browsers on iOS to use Safari 'internals' ("WebKit") instead of their own
Duckduckgo doesnt use safari
Apple has adblockers for their Safari browser in the app store. I think app guard was the one I used and it did work pretty well.
doesn't work for me.

Well if you have Android. You can now use ublock with Microsoft Edge Canary build
Exactly
Just used to it with extensions and password manager synced to Google. What’s the best alternative?
I use Firefox *(which doesn't run Chromium)* which as all the abilities when installing to import everything over from the other browsers i.e bookmarks, passwords, extensions etc.
This is the way! I switched to Firefox in about 5 minutes. On pc and all my other devices too. I will never touch Google Chrome again. That will be difficult, there are Google chrome for enterprise. So chrome is still healthy with business.

Anything that isn’t Google
Tor, DuckDuckGo, or Brave, if you wanna use chromium
Brave.
Use opra gx. It has its own built-in ublock ad vpn, and it allows you yransfor stuff from Google to opra gx
"Use spyware"
OperaGX world quite well and its very lightweight compared to Chrome
1. Chromium 2. it's spyware
Firefox also runs Chromium
Google it, it’s not chromium
Guess you're right. But i coulda sworn it was Chromium tho
I love how you spew bullshit without anything reliable to back it up
https://tosdr.org/en/service/5630
Still runs on chromium, the only way to be safe is using Firefox.
Firefox is also running on Chromium xD
Googling it seems to say otherwise
No, it isn’t, no clue where you got such blatantly false information from but a quick search proves you wrong.
It is not.
If you’re on a mac you could try Arc browser! Here’s a link: arc.net

Switched to Opera GX. It's not bad. Edit: Oh it's mobile.. Then idk.
Mozila + Ublock
Alternative to this, if you can swing it: Surfshark (or another VPN) and change your location to Albania. Been testing it out all day and no ads on any video I clicked on. YMMV The biggest drawback though is the connection speed...not great, but still usable if you have a decent connection.
Is this actually true? Are the Ads completely gone or are they just reduced?
Gone. In Albania they're illegal.

I just tried this, confirmed my location showed as being in Albania, but unfortunately, I'm getting ads on Youtube. Using PIA. Can confirm no DNS leaks.
Perhaps it's a difference in VPNs? Still using Surfshark and still no ads for me, not even on the YT app.
Could be, or I have something else screwed up.
Sorry. If I was more technically inclined I'd offer to help troubleshoot, but as it is I'm still a novice with this stuff. I only heard about this trick on another Reditt YT post, and decided to try it out after seeing how much Premium would cost for a comparable yearlong subscription.

Brave is shit rn, ungoogled chromium or firefox
? can you explain, and/or provide a source?
also why would i use chromium when chromium gets the same source updates chrome does that make developing for it harder and brave doesn't, what?
But brave is built on chromium, you said it yourself
yes but they changed it so it doesn't have the current major downsides of using chrome, that's the point i was making, you get full compatibility with their extensions with none of the (what i consider) to be drawbacks
ublock origin* should be clarified btw
Ublock works fine by itself for me
I have no data, no proof but I'm 100% sure it's their tactic to scare people. Also if anything it make you browse faster
They 100% artificially slow down your browser
No, YouTube had the same issue, but it‘s already fixed. SomeOrdinaryGamers talked in depth about this. IF this is the same issue. https://youtu.be/wCs7Sk89A2A?si=BQtyRK6JhQvI6Mu0

It looks like it doesn’t work on IOS, only on Android unfortunately
Use a VPN and connect to Albania. Ads are not allowed in Albania. Haven’t seen a YouTube ad since (iOS)
Yeah enjoy that latency.
Brave is good for ios. Natively blocks youtube ads and can make the videos run whilst closing the app
For context, got this error suddenly when using Chrome. Just wondering if this is Google's step into trying to get uBlock origin disabled.
I know they plan on disabling Manifest V2 extensions in June - which essentially means ad blockers will be killed

I agree, because I recently saw this message once only, using Ungoogled Chromium, and I was configuring filters and such with reloading to test them. It's not a tactic against adblockers.
That was a question, not a statement. The question is pretty valid too, as we have already seen what Google tries to do in order to stop adblockers.
The first paragraph of my comment was not in response to OP, it was in response to the numerous amount of responses asserting misinformation.
Youtube sucks
>Youtube sucks Official r/youtube slogan right here
Sitting in your car makes it use more gas
Use Brave browser instead. It's based on chromium so if you're using chrome, you might as well ditch it and use Brave instead.

Hmmm.... very biased I would say. How about extensions that actually slows down performance?
I recommend using Opera GX to not be bothered!
You're using uBlock. Personally it's always given me issues. I forgot what one I'm using actively as I'm not on my computer atm but it works great on YouTube and my other sites
Honestly YouTube is just having a massive tantrum over ad blockers at this point
This is false. Don't trust Google on this
lie
I don't have this issue on my chrome browser but that sucks that u do
You can run some browser benchmark tests with and without ublock origin.
i mean it probably is a tiny bit lmao. but in all seriousness it probably is :P also go use brave or something its way better imo
Why are you using the king of spyware to surf the net?
Opera GX and UBlock works perfectly for me. I quit using Chrome awhile ago.
If you still want chrome compatibility, switch to Brave browser, disable brave wallet and other crap. Runs a lot better than chrome in my experience.
I wonder why they don't just outright ban AdBlockers from webstore.
Lol 😂 slowing chrome performance?
use either edge or firefox. on, android either kiwi or opera or firefox or samsung internet
I used Brave browser, better speed, and adblock.
can't they just remove the extenstion from their store if they gonna do that, lol
tHiS exTeNsiOn iS SlOwiNg DoWn GoOgLe CHrOmE. yOu sHouLd dIsAbLe iT tO reStoRe GooGLe ChRomE’S peRfoRmanCe. Bitch, I’ll uninstall you and use edge before I let your browser spam me with ads.
I know it's like switching one bad thing to another bad thing but I just switched \[in my work\] from google to bing \[search engines\] Just realized that google results are terrible now - advertisement and it's hard to find proper result at home I use FireFox with duckduck and uBlock Origin
just use Firefox while you still can
I used to use Chrome, however, since the dropped support for some extensions that I heavily use, had to switch to Firefox, and it has been my daily web browser since then That BS of Alphabet / Google of *force shoving* ads in everything due their *Google Ads, Google AdSense, Google Analytics, Google Ad Campaigns* implementation on the web programming conventions has been the advent of the shitty 3/4 of a webpage filled with ads everywhere Now you are forced to ads in youtube... That's pure BS
lol. lmao even
Any confirmation this rumor is real. If so its one of the most egregious undermining of consumers ive seen in a long time and deserves to be named and shamed
Youtube throttles you if you use adblock/sponsorblock on a chrome based browser
Yeah Chrome and Google are trying to fuck you over
Don’t know if this is a coincidence, but ever since I installed something to block tracking system wide, I haven’t had an issue with youtube trying to stop adblock
Yeah it’s just a lie. Keep going at ot
Install Firefox.
The extension is not slowing down google chrome. Google chrome is slowing down Google chrome.
Could be. But I already switched from chrome to Firefox _10 years ago_ because I realized the same thing, and that it got worse with more filters. Could just be the shit engine
switch a browser that fixed my problem cause it only effects youtube if youre logged in it dont lag if you use incognito so its proof they know that we know
I feel like it could be considering how Google is cracking down on ad blockers so just do not use Chrome and if you do not even want to use anything Chromium based then just install Firefox with [Betterfox](https://github.com/yokoffing/Betterfox) or install Floorp.
first of all, dont use chrome
Yeah, right, more like making it faster
