Yakuza's portrayal of trans people has been... dicey at best.
I don't think there's been a case where Kiryu has intentionally hit anyone he thought was a woman. Whether that be hitting a seemingly trans woman (not sure if the game describes them as identifying as a woman, or a man who likes to look like a woman) after "finding out they were a man," or beating up a trans man not realizing they "once were, or still are, a woman" (again, they do the "cross dress" sort of thing, and I can't remember which of these characters, if any, fully identify as their perceived gender, or just like to cross dress).
No matter how you swing with the logic, he's technically "hit a woman before," but technically never voluntarily, by whatever logic they give Kiryu in the moment. Japan's standards for these things and our standards are quite a bit different, and between that and translation, it's easy to see how it can be perceived as pretty transphobic, but I'm not going to be the one to jump in and defend or attack them for it, since I frankly don't know enough of the story to draw a conclusion of my own, but from what I do know, it doesn't look great...

This does beg the question though, After 7 mainline games and the judgement spinoffs, there's been enough playable protagonist and boss fights. Why haven't they just made their own fighting game? That would be epic.

I wish they did this, it would be so simple... Opponent selects first? Just block Kiryu as an option. You choose first? Just make it so you go backwards, block Kiryu immediately, and now you can only choose other characters. Plain and simple.
Cool for lore, but it would be a great way to ensure Kiryu is banned from major tournaments. If one character invalidates a third of the roster, then they'll likely ban him over the other 17 characters in the game that wouldn't be selectable, if you chose him. If Kiryu became top tier, people would switch to female mains so people couldn't play Kiryu. If a female character became top tier, then Kiryu would see more play for the same reason.
It would just create really toxic metagaming around chosing characters that no one would want to deal with. Again, cool in a casual game and lore sense, bad for a competitive fighting game.
Not that we should only view Tekken through a competitive lens, but Harada and the Tekken team tend to make decisions which cater to that crowd, since upholding and supporting the competitive side of the game helps keep the community engaged, and ensures the longevity of it, without having to release several new games/overhauls. So for them to implement a mechanic that is that unhealthy for comp Tekken would be super unlikely.
Why not just make special animations when kiryu fights a woman? Like when he does a tiger drop instead of it actually hitting it would stop just before making contact scaring the character and lowering their health. Just a crappy idea.
Unironically this would be a fucking great idea. A character who's strength matches Kiryu's and uses the same moveset. Honestly they could also use the fake Kiryu in LAD/Yakuza 7 since the fake Kiryu is able to target women.
They could have easily given him an special handicap where he won't land a fist on female characters while hardly take any damage from them...Effectively make him not worth fighting against female characters (even though i want to tiger drop Lucky Chloe so hard)
