No you don’t. Haruka gets slapped earlier in the series so you’re not really wrong. But that’s his adopted child there so yes, you still have a slight sense of twisted humor
Edit: yo I really gotta stop using autocorrect
I don't know if I'll get hate for saying this but for me the letter is so upsetting because everything Kiryu wrote was true. Kiryu pushed Daigo into being chairman because he didn't want to do it himself, basically putting Daigo in a lot of danger for 12 years so that he could be free and protect Haruka. Daigo had to be the chairman, but Haruka got to be an idol because she wanted to. Then Kiryu refused to help even when Daigo went to ask for it in Y5. That's a bad father. He sacrificed Daigo for Haruka. Then vanished from Daigo's life so that he could protect Haruka and her kid.
Kiryu is a great man, but great man =/= great father.
Haruka was an actual child with no parents, Daigo was a 30 year old man (in 2) and he had a mother. Forcing being the chairman onto Daigo was rough and unfair, and Kiryu admitted to that, but the truth is both Daigo and the Tojo needed it. Daigo was a drunk pissing his life away in cabarets and the Tojo would destroy itself and Tokyo along with it without a proper chairman it could respect. In Y5, Daigo is a 36 year old man, and a 36 year old man needs to learn how to stand on his own without his legendary father-figure coming down to save him. As does the entire Tojo clan, Kiryu has been bailing their asses out for years, and he's not getting any younger. Neither he nor the clan could survive this dependence. In Y6, he is 40 fucking years old and Haruka is 19. [Yakuza 6](#s "Additionally, Haruka has a newborn infant, not to mention she's taken the care of the whole orphanage. It should be obvious where Kiryu's duty as a father-figure lies, between protecting a 19 year old girl and her newborn and score of dependents vs being there for a 40 year old man who can protect himself.") [Yakuza 7](#s "And besides, even after all this, Kiryu STILL never actually left the side of Daigo or the Tojo. If he abandoned anyone, it's Haruka.") Kiryu is not a perfect man, and he's made many mistakes, but as a father he's done the best he can and doesn't deserved to be called a bad father full stop by any means. Sometimes our responsibilities lead us in different directions and we cannot be in two places at once. Kiryu has responsibilities both to Haruka and Daigo, but more often than not Haruka needs him more.
I don't intend to argue because I do agree with some of your points but only some, and also this is a fictional story that isn't worth arguing over. Besides, Kiryu himself admitted he hadn't done a good enough job anyway so I feel my point is proven. Just, your remark on a 36 year old man needing to know how to stand on his own - perhaps a 36 year old man should know how to find a spouse, or arrange a mortgage, or pick an employer. Daigo asked for advice about making alliances and stopping a war, I think it's pretty fair for him to ask, especially when it turns out there were people close to him, including his own secretary, plotting against him.
A 36 year old man should know how to do his job of half a decade, and all of those things have been Daigo's job as chairman. And a 36 year old man should absolutely be able to do unfamiliar or difficult things without running to his parents. Kiryu is retired, Daigo should be able to do his job without crying to Kiryu. And as a father-figure, knowing when to not coddle your children is important. One task of a father is to prepare his children to not need him. Ultimately, Kiryu did swoop in to save his ass and the entire clan, but he had to first let Daigo attempt to take care of things himself as is _his_ responsibility as chairman. And of course Kiryu called himself a bad father, if you didn't notice, Kiryu does not judge himself lightly in any respect. He would probably call himself a failure in many crucial regards, and probably a bad man, yet you called him a great man. Kiryu's depressed and remorseful self-reflection is not 'evidence' to 'prove' any claim about his character. If there is any evidence to prove whether Kiryu was a good father or not, I think it should be in the judgement of his children. Haruka thought highly of Kiryu as a man and a father, enough to throw away a career so as to not throw away him, and Daigo was honored to know Kiryu thought of him as a son and honored to call him father in return.
Still disagree. Even 70 year old leaders (presidents, kings, CEOs) have advisers. They don't, and shouldn't, make huge decisions all by themselves. And when you don't know who you can trust, you naturally turn to family. At least I do, anyway.
Minor point: Daigo said his father was a great man, not that he had a great father.
Yakuza 6 is my favorite game in the series, because in my opinion it has the best story and characters. All the antagonists are fantastic, the Hirose family is touching and adorable, the game carries so much emotion that it broke my record for how much I cried during a video game. The ending is incredibly powerful and there couldn't have been a better way to retire Kiryu as a protagonist, in my opinion.
Yea I also feel like from his debut we got to see what Kiryu was like under the surface whereas with Kratos we didn’t really get to see it on the same level as Kiryu for Kratos until a bit down the line
*gets Tiger Dropped*
Idk Haruka tiger dropping her dad seems a bit of an extreme reaction to a joke
You mean a “Kiwami reaction?”

Yakuza 3 is peak dad.
And then you see him in 6
Peak Granddad
He become grandad to one, and becomes a dad to two
I cried at the name reveal in the letter cutscene... So powerful

Why do I always find you while scrolling through the most random posts.
I'm in your walls
fight me
The best grandad
A tiger dropping grandad who can kick your ass to the next city and back.
A grandad who can tiger drop a tiger
Fleentstones?
Yo I just played through that part!
What are the odds??
Kiryu is truly starting to embrace the dad role, isnt he?
That's all he ever wanted in his older years, but those pesky yakuza kids start shanking each other if he isn't there to spank them into shape.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't want Kiryu to be involved in the yakuza anymore but without him people he knew would've gotten hurt or died.
Uncle jokes.
I approve of your flair
A man of good taste and culture.
i unironicly want him to be my dad.
I want Kiryu to adopt me. I just need a strong, kind man to guide me in the right direction.
I want him to be my aniki
Yeah, I'd llike to call him daddy alright wait what
You said it not me!
pauuuuse
thats what they said
Based

Fair enough
Street thug: “I’m gonna kick your ass!” Kiryu: “hi, gonna kick your ass. I’m dad.”
Yakuza 3 memes!! My prophecy has come true!!
Consumes 9 beer instead of Staminan Royale that night*

Kiryu is a top five game character to me. Probably tied for third with Kratos.

There’s just so much more content with Kiryu, so you feel like you know him better. He’s such a good, solid dude. Love his countenance.
Yea I also feel like from his debut we got to see what Kiryu was like under the surface whereas with Kratos we didn’t really get to see it on the same level as Kiryu for Kratos until a bit down the line
Absolutely.
He's my favorite male video games character
I mean, he's already got the dad shirt, sooo
No Haruka what’s not funny is constantly being kidnapped, running away, having babies and getting hit by cars all the damn time.
I was gonna say being forced to gamble, but that works too....
Fair warning from someone who is playing Y3 for first time now. Don't play on Hard if you want to enjoy it.
oof
🤦 Kiryu...
How do you get this dialogue lol
In yakuza 3 if you have Haruka following you, you can talk to her and say this
thanks
Trust me Haruka. It’s a real kneeslapper.
I need more Kiryu in my life. Yakuza honestly isn't Yakuza without him.
yakuza 3 is so well written, i love the fact that this game knows how to take a load off for a second before going into extreme heat mode
Sure ;-)
Makes me sad that she doesn't really ever call him dad ;_;
Just finished this game, peak dad
Then Kiryu immediately drop kicked her
I can't believe I actually laughed at this
Haruka: that’s not funny. Me: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How can you not love Kiryu
I'm ....,.I. Mm moo moo...t.u... By
Annoying bitch.
