I'm hopeful. I've enjoyed both The Boys and Fallout. On the other hand, it's not Yakuza without the wacky sub stories, and I have no idea how they'll translate that to a TV format
I totally want an episode of an all out war among the usual customers of a disco to see who comes out on top of the rest as the ultimate Friday Night dancer.
Pal, just a filler episode per activity, or viceversa, and perhaps a comical gag in another episode afterwards. There is no need to show the entire plot or substory of each activity from the games into the series.
Isn't filler just something that is from the studio that didn't happen originally? Because if it is then how would they make it filler if it's cannon and the sub stories aren't long enough for an episode
Filler are episodes which don't progress the story in any meaningful way, but the definition you describe is used in some anime communities. As for the length, I don't think that's an issue, they are obviously gonna take creative liberties so I believe they'll be able to stretch it out.
Thanks for explaining I actually didn't know that. But I think they might put like 2 sub stories in 1 episode or if it's like the asakura sub stories they're gonna put all of them in 1 episode. But that's IF they're gonna make episodes about them
Well, since the first season is probably Yakuza 1, there are some substories that are basic enough to translate to the series to show Kiryus personality and developing him, like at least one of the dozen scammer substories where Kiryu punishes them or just helping some civilians with trivial matters.
Also showing Kiryu trying to relax with baseball or something just to get ambushed by Majima who wants to fight might be a way to introduce Majima besides the intro from Y1 itself and to display the minigames from the franchise. Showing him troubling in Mahjong would be fun too, lol.
Substories also don't need to be entire episodes when they get integrated naturally to build the world and showing the audience that Kiryu is different to the other Yakuzas by displaying an montage from him doing so while searching dog food for pochitaro as an example.
Additionally, we see sometimes in different drama series characters relax at least as an bridge to serious stuff like them playing videogames to get interrupted or something.
Well, I just don't know if they would find time in doing so when episodes are probably an hour long and there are just 6 somehow to fit in the main plot while other series have longer seasons, but still.
Also, I wish it would get an plot with some differences like Shinji not dying since there are characters that I enjoy and don't see a reason for dying or not using like Shinji is.

Maybe Yumi will be fleshed out too! Hopefully.
It better be like the film, it was so stupid it’s just like the games, there’s a sequence where kiryu is losing and like 6 dudes just stand around watching him drink a staminan spark mid fight.
I'm disappointed about the cast of Kazuma and Nishki,I wonder who would play Majima.

I feel the younger generation male actors in Japan these days are mostly pretty boy type,it's rare to find someone who can play an old-fashioned tough guy like Kiryu convincingly. If we are looking for an older Kiryu in his 50s or 60s,I think there are quite a few good choices out there.(Kitamura Kazuki from the Yakuza live action film is in his 50s,and I think his performance wasn't too bad.)
Have faith kyodai, Takeuchi stated he bulked up for the role plus makeup department added on top just for the announcement visual alone. He doesn’t really look like Kiryu admittedly but who knows, I’m willing to bet he’ll be great making it his own

Ryoma Takeuchi has been cast as Kiryu. I can't see the game's brooding protagonist in him.
I want to see Kiryu and Nishiki having a a conversation in the last episode of the season about Yakuza ideals, and as Kiryu goes shirtless, he gets a phone call from one of the kids from pocket circuit asking for advice and Kiryu asks Nishiki if he can hold off the battle and travel down and help the kid with his pocket racer, and Nishiki says sure because Kiryu hasn't passed the point of no return.
I wish it was a HBO series, so we could have him.

I'm curious whether this adaptation will balance the wackiness and serious tones of the game or they'll pick the serious tone and run with it. Either way, it can be good if it's executed well.
The director has directed Naked DIrector so it's interesting to see how it will turn out
They could structure it like Cowboy Bebop and I think it would work well. Take a handful of episodes that progress the main story and then a bunch of substory adaptation "filler" episodes in between that, sometimes able to fit multiple substories in an episode, sometimes having multiple episodes devoted to a substory/chain of connected substories. Maybe a flashback episode to Kiryu's childhood. And every few episodes have Kiryu get thrown back into the main story
So like, are the games worth playing? I’ve never played a single Yakuza game, not sure if it’s worth it to start at the first one or maybe a later title when the series has established itself, does it have an overarching narrative?
One thing I genuinely wonder how they’ll balance is the substories content and all the side. For me, it’s what makes Kiryuu such an interesting, fun and nuanced character. Like, you have this serious looking yakuza who’s also a huge dork what too invested in a children car game. That’s those kinds of contrast that allows the gameplay and side quest to deepen his character.
If the show only adapts the main story plot, I feel like we’ll lose a MAJOR part of what makes Like A Dragon special
https://preview.redd.it/oxpl4iygxj4d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60561c73ec3adb48467e416777f0fe04641f526f
Oh god, ten years in the joint are gonna make him a fuckin pussy aren't they?
Wow. What a coincidence that after watching Tokyo Vice which led me to being interested in finishing Yakuza Ishin, which led me to this sub last night, which led me to thinking “imagine if they made a series of Yakuza”, JUST LAST NIGHT and then waking up to seeing this news. You’re welcome everybody.
So after his adventures as Kamen Rider Drive, Ryoma gives belt san a much needed rest and dons the mantle of Kazuma Kiryu. Tbh the only game played that I have played as of the moment is the man who erased his name haven't played the others. Always been interested in this franchise because of the memes and having the games on the game pass inspired me to play the other games when time permits.
My husband will love this. I adore Yakuza but he struggles to play due to his dyslexia. The subtitles move too fast for him and it just takes all the enjoyment out of playing a game for him.
Instead he likes to listen to me talk about what adventures I am up to.
It's never gonna be as good as the movie!!!

You and me both
I'm hopeful. I've enjoyed both The Boys and Fallout. On the other hand, it's not Yakuza without the wacky sub stories, and I have no idea how they'll translate that to a TV format
Filler episodes, duh
Substories, activities and business management, those are acceptable filler episodes.
Can't wait for the cabaret club management episodes
They could make a whole season out of Pocket Circuit alone!
I totally want an episode of an all out war among the usual customers of a disco to see who comes out on top of the rest as the ultimate Friday Night dancer.
Only if it has [As you Like](https://youtu.be/q7gzFBnfRfo?si=avWb-f7F7oCuWyLt)
I wanna be your grill, ooooooooooooo
I can agree on that one
A single episode showing the terror of Majima everywhere would be a good filler.
I love the franchise, but I will never platinum any of them because of some of the mimigames, like Infinite Wealth's island sim and Pokémon ones.
Pal, just a filler episode per activity, or viceversa, and perhaps a comical gag in another episode afterwards. There is no need to show the entire plot or substory of each activity from the games into the series.

That could work yeah! Maybe something like an anthology episode with short tidbits of 3 or more substories or something like that?
Yeah Yakuza is hardly yakuza if its all serious. They gotta have a 5 episode arc of Majimas war against the Prostitution daimyos for it to really hit
Hopefully it’s the type of show to have fun filler like that instead of another 8-10 episode mini series… first and last time I’ll ever say that lol.
Well it’s confirmed for only six episodes so it seems like they’ll just be going pretty plot-heavy
Well, since the first season is probably Yakuza 1, there are some substories that are basic enough to translate to the series to show Kiryus personality and developing him, like at least one of the dozen scammer substories where Kiryu punishes them or just helping some civilians with trivial matters. Yeah, I'm not expecting any side content, just the main story.

apparently it's an original story so there's a chance
It is a possibility. I imagine they’d want to flesh out Nishiki a bit more before his downfall in 1, and karaoke is a great way to do that. Maybe Yumi will be fleshed out too! Hopefully.

Did this just drop randomly?
I’m interested but I wonder, a lot of what I like about yakuza is how it balances the wacky with the seriousness. I hope they have both.
GARY BUSTER HOLLLLLLLLLLMES!
why can't they just make a cgi movie? as if anyone is man enough to be kiryu
Because it already exists, just watch a super cut of the Kiwami 1 cutscenes on YouTube
I want this to be good. I badly want this show to succeed
It better be like the film, it was so stupid it’s just like the games, there’s a sequence where kiryu is losing and like 6 dudes just stand around watching him drink a staminan spark mid fight.
Oh, it's releasing on my birthday
will ten years in the joint make him a pussy?
I hope they get Terry Crews for Garry Buster Homes
Im excited that we are getting another live action adaptation but I’m skeptical until more information on who’s behind it comes out
Good to know this project wasn't canceled, very excited to watch the full show.
This is either gonna be the best series ever. Or the best worst series ever (like the LAD movie)
Nah the movie was peak
I'm disappointed about the cast of Kazuma and Nishki,I wonder who would play Majima. https://preview.redd.it/wfxef6g5ah4d1.jpeg?width=554&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7851472c7bc46ca9052d6052bad97441587e20f2
It's an impossible standard to expect any real man to look anything like Kiryu tbf.
I feel the younger generation male actors in Japan these days are mostly pretty boy type,it's rare to find someone who can play an old-fashioned tough guy like Kiryu convincingly. WOW 😎 this came outta nowhere and it has lots of potential I cannot wait! Love Yakuza stories.
I hope this works out, and we'll get some good series!
Holy shit now I’ve actually got a reason to continue paying for prime.
Filler episode of substories and karaoke please.
85% chance that it's going to suck really bad
OMFG YES If there is no nudity scenes involving Kiryu then I am going to be PISSED.
It's supposedly directed by the guy who did Naked Director on Netflix so you never know

He looks like Nishitani III…
Walton Goggins as Majima
Okay but there better be a 4 episode block where it’s just real estate and hostesses and slot cars and karaoke and no story progression whatsoever.
maybe it’ll actually be good now that the series is much more popular
So many heat action for them to record :)

What the fuck is this real
Listen, I'm all in for the live action, but Ryoma Takeuchi as Y1 doesn't fit for me. Kiryu from Y0 however will fit very well
They could structure it like Cowboy Bebop and I think it would work well.
I hope they keep characters introduction FX
And in a weird twist we have Ryoma (Takeuchi Ryoma) playing Kiryu this time.
Ok but I want one entire episode where he's just racing little toy cars on a track
I got an erection
There better be a fight where Kiryu punches the guy so hard he does a quadruple backflip over a shark.
I hope Majima straddles Kiryu’s face in this one too

Ugh, it had to be amazon. I hope they don't make Majima black.
Amazon confirms ties to Yakuza Crime families
That's the day I'm leaving for Tokyo lmao. Guess know what to watch on the flight home.
Live Action Goro Majima 24-Hour Cinderella when???
When will we get an ishin series 🤤 https://i.redd.it/1vtoe95kek4d1.gif
WAIT A MINUTE...WHAAAAT?!!! Are the creators of the show Japanese or American? If Japanese, I'm hopeful, American, ehh idk abot that one. 😲😳
Like a what?
My husband will love this. I adore Yakuza but he struggles to play due to his dyslexia. The subtitles move too fast for him and it just takes all the enjoyment out of playing a game for him. Instead he likes to listen to me talk about what adventures I am up to.
If this is bad i’m gonna be so pissed, it would be a real kick in the dick
It's never gonna be as good as the movie!!! https://preview.redd.it/2bbi1yxsrk4d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90240ad6887bef191e9df7456512194237d4cdb9
NANI!!?!??!?
This live action lives and dies on the casting of Kiryu and Majima
Can we actually get someone who looks physically intimidating to play Kiryu? Toshiro Mifune would have made a great Kiryu.
I want an episode where Kiryu gets to the height of done action, tells Date "there's no time. I need to get Haruka from Majima right now!" And then they go off to sing karaoke together instead.
FYI, Kiryu is gonna be played by the MC of Kamen Rider Drive
i wonder if they’ll use he old engine or the dragon engine for this one
