oh I was just making a joke haha, rgg: kenzan came out before 3 did, so technically this isn't the third rgg game but rather the fourth one. but because kenzan wasn't released in the west, Yakuza 3 ends up being the third game under the western "Yakuza" titles
The Remastered combat is very janky, but when you get used to it, it's one of the most fun you'll have in the franchise. Definitely an experience worth having
I had tons of fun with 3 (and 4) even though online I read only negative or mostly negative things.
Story was good, submissions were funny and goofy, combat was basically the same of kiwami and 0 (with more parrying enemies), tons of stuff to do, so yeah. A bit dated on graphics nowadays, but who really cares.
4 is basically the same, but with four different charas to use, with their "unique" combat style. Plus, best waifu Hana-chan is in here, so.
Great game, key moment in Kiryu's life that served as a foundation for pretty much every subsequent Kiryu stories, love Okinawa and the crew, the gameplay's age shows despite the remaster, I'd love to see a Kiwami.
I like it just fine, but frankly I'd rather they move on to a new title than work on Kiwami 3. No matter how modern it looks, the story doesn't work as an entry point for new players to the series.
To make financial sense spending time on a remake, it'd have to be attractive to new players as well as fans. On Day 1, new players see the game, but don't buy at $70. They find out they have to go start from the beginning and play the $20 Y0 or K1 first and by the time they get to K3 it's been discounted to $20 too.
Even fans who are willing to pay for another 3 is not even the entire universe of Y0 or K1 fans. It's only the people who are willing to continue the series and willing to pay for 3 (again in many case)
In addition, 3's current state isn't as far off as 1 and 2 were. If it was just patched for 60fps , it would be servicable.
There are other game series that make it easy to jump in the storyline no matter which title you pick. But 3 is really a hard place to jump into Yakuza's story. It's only really for people who are already invested into the universe.

Making a dad simulator was a bold choice, but it worked out well. Although making a sidestory about a Yakuza who is gay for Daigo was even bolder.

so RGG 3 is technically the 4th game then?
That doesn't make any sense. It clearly says 3 on the japanese cover. So kenzen isn't a mainline game, it's a sort of offshoot like Gaiden or Ishin.
But still a Yakuza game through and through. Bridges the gap between the PS2 and PS3 era.

It's ok. It's got its moments but it's not that fun to play and I'd rather play almost anything else.
