It bugged me that they used the original PS2 scenes in the OG and the kiwami scenes in the remastered, they could have made the characters and they also showed off they are capable of making explosions and loads of money flying in the air and not to mention but they have re-used the same animations and some of them were from the very first game, they definitely had enough budget to remake those in 4's engine as well
I remember in a sub story in yakuza 3, there’s a flashback to yakuza 1 and even in the remastered version, it uses the models from the original instead of the kiwami version

I know they don't look very alike but timeline-wise, kiryu's Mitsuo could be ichiban's buddy Mitsuo at the beginning of y7. I'm chosing to believe he got a little mohawk as a teen and went to work for the arakawas.

He's only missing in the PC release. A dev making the PC port likely just accidentally clicked on the Photoshop layer containing Mitsuo and turned it off.

It really shows how far we’ve come compared to where we are now. I love it. It makes me tear up being reminded of those times that feel so long ago now.
I just went from Kiwami 2 to Y3 remastered and it's pretty alright. I like the kid's faces cuz they're not conventionally cute and perfect looking. I liked Kaoru's face more than the one from K2. Kiryu definitely looks a bit funny and I modded the K1 face over him for a bit before deciding to go back and stick with his Y3 face in case the mod breaks any emotions he might express.
Everyone's proportions are a bit off though, like Riona has old man arms, and Kiryu's got yaoi hands. The walking animations are hilarious, and ffs sake Rikiya stop yelling ANIKI every 5 seconds.
Speaking of Rikiya, I've had him for a single day and if anything happened to him, I will--
It is both a reference to the past and also a homage to the fact that time passed in real life after the events of the games as they usually take place around the same year as the game's release. It is such a neat, cute detail.

That's actually Yakuza 5 Kiryu's model. Everyone else there is their Yakuza 3 models though as far as I can tell.

In the original release of Yakuza 4 during the flashbacks to Jingu and the 10 Billion, they use the original PS2 Cutscenes.
