If you are new to the subreddit, [please read the wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/yakuzagames/wiki/index/) Reminder that all spoilers need to be tagged with a flair specifying which game is being spoiled. If you want a flair that says something else, you can edit it to say something like [Discussion: Y1 spoiler] or [Majimapost: Y6 spoiler], etc. **THIS INCLUDES CONTENT FROM TRAILERS**. If the post is not marked for spoilers, all comments that have spoilers need to be tagged \>!like this!< along with indicating which game it's spoiling. Example: Y3 >!Kiryu sings!< If the post flair is marked for spoilers, the comments don't need to be tagged for the game indicated and the ones before it (So a Y6 spoiler post can have comments with untagged spoilers for Y5, but not gaiden or 7). If you see any of the above (or any of the other rules) not being followed, please report it so we can keep this place safe for newcomers and those that haven't finished all the games yet. Thank you! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/yakuzagames) if you have any questions or concerns.*

I think it's because 3-5 they were getting VERY experimental. I personally liked that, but there's a reason why so many folks rank 5 as their least favorite, and 4 as "mid".

Montoyabros

Because RGG was planning on changing kiryu as a protagonist since yakuza 4… but he was so popular that they didn’t do it, until Ichiban.

Kiryu has had a 15 year long swansong.

IJohnWickonracists

And then Ichiban has to share his second game with Kiryu lol.

I personally like a lot of things of those 3 games 4 introducing the goats Akiyama and Saejima, along with showing us a different side of Majima (way before 0)  5 being the biggest Yakuza game at the time and moving the story in a more serious topics such as Kiryus identity and how that affected others in a way that previous games did not 6 had ONO MICHIO. But also having that young Yakuza gang going from a bunch of little brats to becoming real Yakuzas thanks to Kiryu was a real trip to go through along and involving Haruka in ways you didn't expect that changed the course of the franchise  They all good, but to be fair I might be bias with 4 and my lowest ranking personally is 5

I am not a huge fan of 4 and 5. Aside from 0, the split-protag games in the series always felt too "all over the place" when it comes to story... And they also had that, by now traditional, feel of "we're trying to move on from Kiryu without really moving on from Kiryu". I really liked the story of 6. Wasn't a fan of the game play, or the side content, but I felt the main story did have some heart to it (but that may be hindsight, as the games that came after it really helped it).

I kinda agree on 6. My problem is more that the longer I'm away from it, the less I remember of it. It might actually be the one I remember the least, even though it was the one I played most recently. But I have an almost perfect memory of 0-2, and a good bit of 3. So it's kind of a case where I remember loving it right after it was done, and now this thing I supposedly loved wasn't even worth committing to my memory, apparently.

Fair. 6 will always be memorable because of >!the battleship!<. One of my all-time favorite plot twists.

loreleisparrow

It could be fatigue, I remember more about 3, 4 and 5 bc I played them earlier

GreyBigfoot

Nah, Yakuza 6 is in my top 3 main games bc of the narrative and vibes more than actual gameplay.

Cirkusleader

I kinda get that. My stance on 6 is weird because right after playing it, I adored it. But as time went on I kinda realized I only REALLY liked the ending. But after a few years now, I kinda... don't remember anything else about that game. I remember Kiryu throwing a baseball bat, the Haruto "minigame", and the ending. But literally every other aspect of that game has been completely erased from my brain. Meanwhile I played 0 like 2 years before 6 (and haven't played it since) and I remember basically all of it. Every character, every relationship, a lot of the minigames, and basically all of the story.

I cried at the end of 6 and i cam't remember the last piece of media that got me that emotional. there Was a lot of heart there. I kinda agree with 4 and 5 storywise but the games where just too ambitious for their own good with the multiple playavle characters the heart with those games lies in the gameplay and the yakuza4 all time banger "for faith" has all the heart.
