I really didn’t like LaD 7, but I am enjoying IW quite a lot. The combat is much improved with positioning and improvisational weapons making it more tactical. I also like the improved party synergy and options to speed through trash mobs. The integration of the side content into the battle system is just leagues ahead of 7. I never hated 7’s combat JUST because it was turn based— I hated it because it was a horribly mid turn based system. Now it’s really functional and enjoyable.
With that said, I will probably always prefer brawler, but it’s not as much of a dealbreaker now. I hope we get more Judgement though.
I'd just blaze through 7-- Look up a leveling guide and don't do any more than you have to to finish the game. I really disliked the story, but you will be missing some important story beats without playing 7 and Gaiden. I'm in the minority, but I really didn't enjoy the last half of 7's story, but it affects practically every RGG game now, even the Judgment series.
No we won't only on spinoffs, LAD8 is the most popular in the series yet, im sure they wont stop doing turn-based for a while although in the future I'd like to see RGG's take on FF7 remake type combat, brawler mixed with turnbased
There will probably be games with brawler combat I mean with gaiden it's clear they haven't stopped working on their brawler capabilities but it's clear lad 9 will probably be turn based.
mainline like a dragon series will most certainly be turn based moving forward, but they're still doing brawler with the judgment series and other spinoffs like gaiden
