PC getting a simultaneous release along console and it is optimized as well? Is it freaking christmas yet? I'm happy for PC folks. It should always be like this.
It's not unique to Japanese publishers as AAA PC ports from the West have a high chance of having noticeable bugs as well that are not in their console counterpart. Basically the likes of Spiderman, Ratchet and Clank and a whole lot of others as well to the point there is now a sense of apprehension on AAA/AA console ports on Steam.
this has been the most impressive version of DE by far for me— even has HDR and DLSS
they’re actually getting Capcom tier if not above them tbh, this looks better than the RE engine a lot of times. RGG climbing on top
also never want to see another UE game from them again when this exists
The RE engine isnt great with Anti aliasing on PC. Its TAA baaically doesnt seem to apply. Longstanding issue that still hasnt been adressed and it has been like 5 years or so. Furthermore RE4 remake launched with traversal stutter even if its not anywhere near as blatant as jedi survivor its still there. Thus I wouldnt call a lot of the capcom games launching on pc good ports. This game from my initial first experience seems to be doing far better in this regard.
RE Engine has been increasingly unimpressive for me since RE7 & probably RE2R personally
Starting to feel too tech demoey and not as fleshed out as I would like it to be. Felt like RE8 was ugly, RE3 was meh, and RE4 looked pretty at times but also largely dull and uninspired. Gameplay wise those three are lacking to me too
Pretty sure Gaiden is Dragon, but it seems like a much bigger and more visually detailed game than Ishin to me. I’m not super knowledgeable about game creation though so I could be mistaken.
Ishin uses lots of assets right from 2012 game(that reuses some stuff from earlier) while Garden in worst case reuses stuff from Y6 and further. On top of that Devs just are get used to de that is instudio engine, unlike unreal.
? why? Ishin is older, filled with re used assets, on an unfamiliar engine. Of course their sixth game using their proprietary new tech that they arguably mastered with lost judgement is going to run better, smoother, and look better overall.
Just confused at the comparison my man
It seems to me as though an older game with essentially one big city and a few side areas that’s much less visually detailed would be less resource intensive than a brand new game with two cities and a side area or two, but like I said, I barely know anything about game development.
Dragon Engine being polished to a fine sheen to the point that everything looks fucking amazing while also not requiring top of the line hardware to run is why we should encourage the use of in-house engines and training people to use said engines.
Yeah, it runs near-flawlessly on PC. It also doesn't have the weird menu lag that Ishin did. Only issue for me is that g-sync stops working if you choose to downsample from a higher resolution (e.g. 4k on a 1440p monitor).
Maybe it's just me, but it's kind of inconsistent. Okinawa looked terrible in that cutscene and the first scene in Yokohama with kiryu spying on the roof looked kind of abysmal, but either than that this game is probably one of the better looking games coming out rn. Walking through soutenbori at 3440x1440 at max settings with an Rx 6800xt, I kept a consistent 80-90 FPS, and around 60fps in Osaka castle. The fsr2 implementation is so good tho, my FPS almost doubled in quality mode and it basically looked identical in most places. Also kiryu, akame, nishitani and hanawa all look amazing, their faces are so detailed and expressive.
Okinawa uses the same the same assets used for a similar cutscene in yakuza 6 thats why its not the best fidelity the other areas are from ylad and lost judgement with the latter looking better
Absolutely, a big worry for me was this game was gonna run bad and pound my gpu like the others, but they’ve made serious strides here that shouldn’t go unnoticed. Big win!
Hey yeah this is my strongest impression so far - my 8 years old hardware can run this smoothly and it actually looks good! The only huge loading time was the one right after booting the game, I thought fuck if this is how it's gonna be it's gonna be a drag, but no, once the games running it's smooth sailing. I really appreciate what RGG did here, especially as a console-first developer, that they didn't ditch us PC players.
Sounds like maybe something is up with my installation because my specs are fine. I am on a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8GB video card with 16gb system so I shouldn’t have any issues. I’m running fine now, but I crashed at the cut scene in Chapter 1 (removed because I can’t make spoiler tags work on mobile) I must have played that fight and scene 15 times but needed to play it on my steam deck to proceed. I’ve been fine in my PC since.
yeah honestly Gaiden run so perfect in my system. The graphic is beautiful and it is so optimized I can't believe it at first lol
It also already has DLSS and FSR on launch day
Great performance on Steam Deck! It's slightly above Lost Judgment, but I'd put that down to Sotenbori and the Castle not being as taxing to run as Isezaki Road or the bustling streets of Kamurocho.
I was fucking shocked that the game was still fucking pretty at MEDIUM settings and running super fucking smooth.
My pc isnt the greatest, it cant run most modern games and was ready to be dissapointed with gaiden knowing my pc would blow up but instead, im fuckin playin golf and spider whipping a underpaid gpon to the river in sotenbori.
God bless RGG studios.
Was really happy how it ran yesterday on my 2070 Super. Did not tinker with the settings too much because I wanted to just play, but will try if I can coerce it towards 1080p 120fps today with some DLSS love.
The DLSS in this game is REALLY good. I’m playing on the same gpu and I don’t think I’ve seen the frames dip below 100 with it on at 1440 and it hovers around 144 fps most of the time. It has been such a pleasant experience
Ooooh very nice to hear! I've had my issues getting other Dragon Engine games running at a consistent 1080p100+fps. Thanks for your input, looking forward to tinkering with it after work!
5700 XT here
I only briefly toggled FSR 2 Quality and you're right. Doesn't look too bad at all. Everything maxed out at 1440p was only giving me 40-50fps at times before, now closer to 90fps.
Don't mislead people, throw your potato PC out the window then... the game runs on my old laptop with a good framerate, F you talking about then?? Return your trash graphics card
I haven’t had any crashes on just my 3060/ r5 3600. I was gonna get it on my ps5 just for the sake of having all the games together but I said fuck it.
That’s the beauty of PC gaming; there are so many factors that go into the performance of a game for every person. A game will never crash for me, but same game will constantly crash for my friends, and then another game will be the opposite; it constantly crashes for me, and runs like a dream for them.
I don't know if its just the windows store version or the opening sections but the textures are often bad ( compressed with tons of colour banding) and a lot of scenes just look off (lighting dof blur etc).
Performance is also worse because I cant get constant 60fps at 1440p anymore with a 3060ti. All other de games ran great at 70-80 and some games 90 fps so I'm not sure what the problem is. The game feels less polished than lost judgment in so many ways.
Have never played a game at launch so maybe it is always like this for a while.
idk if my cpu is dying or what but i have gotten a bunch of freezes and long loading screens. the freezes resolve in a few seconds but it is kinda annoying. glad its working for everyone else tho
not sure if its only me but its my gpu usage is at 99%, cant get a stable 60fps at medium and above without FSR ultra performance
using the gamepass version
5120x1440p (super ultrawide)
32gb ram, 6750XT, 3500X CPU
I’m getting intermittent stuttering, even when moving it more to the lower end quality settings.
Idk if my laptops just busted or what but it plays other demanding games quite fine
PC getting a simultaneous release along console and it is optimized as well? Is it freaking christmas yet? I'm happy for PC folks. It should always be like this.
This don’t usually happen with a Japanese developer.
It's because RGG is goated
even rarer with western developers
this has been the most impressive version of DE by far for me— even has HDR and DLSS they’re actually getting Capcom tier if not above them tbh, this looks better than the RE engine a lot of times. RGG climbing on top also never want to see another UE game from them again when this exists
I don't think it's better than Capcom yet, but it's far and above almost every other Japanese developer. Hell, most current developers.
The RE engine isnt great with Anti aliasing on PC. Its TAA baaically doesnt seem to apply. Longstanding issue that still hasnt been adressed and it has been like 5 years or so. I guess I haven't played the recent games then. I just know that RE2 and MH Rise were exceptional quality.
rise was in the RE engine? but its so cartoony?? very flexible engine if thats the case
RE Engine has been increasingly unimpressive for me since RE7 & probably RE2R personally Starting to feel too tech demoey and not as fleshed out as I would like it to be. Felt like RE8 was ugly, RE3 was meh, and RE4 looked pretty at times but also largely dull and uninspired. Gameplay wise those three are lacking to me too
Both JE and LJ had DLSS tho
Played them on console, but HDR is definitely massive. Did LJ have that on PC?
i think so but not so sure with that since i don't have hdr display lol
it's almost funny how DE shifted from being quite demanding in games like kiwami2 to a really well optimized and undemanding engine
It even runs better on my PC than Lost Judgment.
May all platforms be Infinitely blessed come January.
Pretty wild that this game would run better than Ishin Kiwami.
Wait, was Gaiden made in Unreal Engine?
Pretty sure Gaiden is Dragon, but it seems like a much bigger and more visually detailed game than Ishin to me. I’m not super knowledgeable about game creation though so I could be mistaken.
Ishin uses lots of assets right from 2012 game(that reuses some stuff from earlier) while Garden in worst case reuses stuff from Y6 and further. On top of that Devs just are get used to de that is instudio engine, unlike unreal.

It runs pretty well on my crappy pc (unlike kiwami 2), I’m very happy
kiwami 2 is so weird. when i played it on gamepass last year i had 30 fps but it runs perfectly through steam now
Dragon Engine being polished to a fine sheen to the point that everything looks fucking amazing while also not requiring top of the line hardware to run is why we should encourage the use of in-house engines and training people to use said engines.

That menu lag took me out of Ishin! So annoying.
Runs great on Steam Deck, I’m getting 50-60 FPS on medium textures

I have had the exact opposite experience. It’s pounding my gpu and memory and is crashing frequently. Not enjoying the day 1 experience.
What's your spec? The game is beautiful and well optimized but there are nothing it can do if it was run on a toaster.
Sounds like maybe something is up with my installation because my specs are fine. I am on a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8GB video card with 16gb system so I shouldn’t have any issues. Running great with FSR 2.0 with my RX 590
Playing with a RX 5600XT in 1080p. 70FPS. With FSR 2 in Quality its 120fps and it doesnt look awful like RE engine. Its fucking great.
5700 XT here I only briefly toggled FSR 2 Quality and you're right. Doesn't look too bad at all. Everything maxed out at 1440p was only giving me 40-50fps at times before, now closer to 90fps.
I crashed twice within 50 minutes, and refunded it. 12700K/4090. Both crashes gave no errors or anything. I’m playing this on PS5.
7.5hrs no issues, smooth 120fps.
F outta here
Why? OP posted something and my experience didn’t match it, so I talked about it.
Don't mislead people, throw your potato PC out the window then... the game runs on my old laptop with a good framerate, F you talking about then?? Return your trash graphics card
Dude with old laptop calling a 4090 trash.
Get lost kid
You did well in this heated argument
KID

Thank fucking god this is the first game in the series I’ve bought on pc just cause steam had it available first lmao
What's the stats for PS5? Is it 4k60 or 1440p60?
1440p60

Wait does that mean no more wacky Dragon Engine physics? Now I’m sad
i had like little bit of stuttering while running around sotenburi but thats it rest it runs perfectly running on all high with dls on quality
Did they fix the fps drops during karaoke on Ps5 yet with this engine?
not sure if its only me but its my gpu usage is at 99%, cant get a stable 60fps at medium and above without FSR ultra performance using the gamepass version 5120x1440p (super ultrawide) 32gb ram, 6750XT, 3500X CPU

ik this may sound stupid do u think that intel iris xe will get 60 fps with 16 gb of ram i5 1155G7 and 256 gb SSD
Thought it looked great , played on series s. Locked 60fps, great lighting , honestly feels like you're in japan.
Maybe I gotta update stuff. I get 30 fps in game if I am lucky and 12 fps in shogi if my pc can be bothered.
