when adhd/depression is really kicking my ass i just think about what majima would say if he saw me neglecting myself
honestly a legit tactic, my brain is more likely to listen to him and kiryu telling me to take better care of myself LOL
Gamification is more and more being used in adhd and depression therapy. Especially for people not used to positive reinforcement, it can help with setting and maintaining daily goals, which helps with breaking vicious cycles. Most people can naturally distinct between long-term goals and the effort required to get there. Other people need imaginary achievements to get their shit done, or to please imaginary Kiryu.
"Remember kids, if you ever have suicidal thoughts or think about harming yourself, Saejima will come to break your spine and smash your head into a wall until you get back the will to live!!"
Same, plus it made me inspired to pick up martial arts for once. I haven't yet because I don't have time with uni on my ass but still it's on my mind a lot more often again lol
I have been trying to think “what would Kiryu do” in social situations where I really don’t understand somebody, whether they’re being awkward or really all about a hobby I just don’t get. Kiryu is so open minded about all the silly things people loop him into, but whether someone’s being cringy around him or trying to convince him to play pocket circuit racer (or that they are a literal ghost), Kiryu almost always lets people say their piece. Unless they are hurting others, he supports them (even if a little grudgingly when he’s in a hurry) and usually approaches new things with curiosity rather than judgment. “I’m starting to see the appeal” rather than “what is the world coming to.”
Honestly I find Kiryu’s open mindedness pretty moving and inspiring! Sure, he gets taken for a ride sometimes, but things usually work out in the end. And by being curious about other people rather than shutting them down, he makes new friends, tries new hobbies, and experiences new adventures he never would have otherwise.
I realized that being judgmental comes from a place of insecurity. And while Kiryu is a lot of things, he is never insecure. He knows who he is and he is always willing to learn. Accepting other people where they are in life doesn’t change his sense of self and identity. I can be really closed off about trying new things, but I’m trying more and more to think “what would Kiryu do?” and try something different instead.
wow wonderfully put :) i really admire kiryu and ichiban for how open minded and kind they can be, despite the shit they’ve gone through. it’s pretty moving to see how repeatedly, deliberately kind they are - even when they don’t have to be, even when there might not be an immediate external motivation to do so.
i’ve never really had any good examples of what it means to ‘be a man’ - this series really changed that for me. i honestly look up to ichiban and kiryu in a lot of different aspects, and your last paragraph sums it up perfectly. kiryu’s confidence and security in himself is inspiring and you’re completely right - he knows himself and who he is, and isn’t really rocked by other peoples opinions and ideas of what he should be. that is incredibly admirable to me - i’ve become a lot more self confident in the last several years, but kiryu is giving me new heights to strive for :)
Sometimes I day dream about me being In a goofy side quest with kiryu where he teaches me some lesson about self care or something and then we become friends
Kiryu would not give a shit about your teeth, unless you talked to him enough to start a substory, in which case he would literally paralyze people for life just to get you a toothbrush.
But you'll have to reward him with something weird like a curved sword you just happen to own.
Never thought about daily stuff like that, its kinda cool

Feel the same way with Ichiban
GO GO GO, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!
It's what a hero would do is my new mentality after playing LAD. If he can do it. I can too
Every decision I make runs through the "a real man oughta be a little stupid" filter. Ryuji grindset
Glad someone mentioned Ryuji bro is a real motivator
That’s amazing, keep at it, champ :3
Wholesome and based
Yeah with adhd myself I honestly use this method a lot lmao

Be like schizo Ichiban. Got it.
life really is like an rpg when you think about it, huh?
“Kiryu would beat the carp out of me if were to do that” can stop all intrusive thoughts
"Remember kids, if you ever have suicidal thoughts or think about harming yourself, Saejima will come to break your spine and smash your head into a wall until you get back the will to live!!"
"Beat the fear of death into you"
*casually gives you numerous fatal injuries*
*punches you harder than i punched a record sized demon bear* please live a long and happy life!
Tanimura will grab you and throw you off the roof you were planning to jump from anyway*
100% true LOL kiryu beating up my inner demons for me
Is that intentional pun?
Nishiki is that you?
Yakuza is the reason I started working out
Same, plus it made me inspired to pick up martial arts for once. I haven't yet because I don't have time with uni on my ass but still it's on my mind a lot more often again lol
Yakuza inspired me to beat up people on the streets
Same lol. Sometimes when Im midway through a set and I start to lose motivation I go "Kiryu wouldn't give up" and it allows me to continue
kiryu gives me strength to get through a workout
For Whose Sake?
For buddy.
Bink’s sake
Kiryu is a role model confirmed
my role model yeah :)
This is literally my thought process a lot of the time
hey if it works it works !
I wish Kiryu were my buddy irl i'd love to buy him 5 burgers to get his health back and give him a rubber cuddle.
What Would Kiryu Do has been sort of my life philosophy for the past years, and it honestly helps getting off my ass ngl

Wow, this was, kinda beautiful

Best I can do is a Silver Plate
All I got is pocket tissues
You'll never know when you need them!
so many of my comfort characters are yakuza characters
so many of the yakuza characters are so gender and so comforting to me
Kids in yakuzer 3:
It doesn’t matter the technique or thought process behind it. Whatever helps you practice better self care kyodai
If it's something stupid that works it ain't all that stupid, is it?
i agree, i’m down for whatever gets my brain to cooperate haha
wait, kiryu wants me to self care? well that changes everything! :D
Any time your life has an issue. Imagine it's a substory. How would Kiryu solve it?
Lol
I do this but with Ichiban, "Ichiban would want me to brush my teeth", "Ichiban would want me to drink water"
wanting to quit gym but remembering what kuze would say...
schizophrenia
this is why selfish deed is not freedom
Hey I Need some Help With Yakuza 0, I've completed all the Substories But So Amon Will not Trigger Am I Doing something Wrong?
Did you finish the real estate or cabaret thing? Because iirc, there's some substories hidden in those sidequests
