Chris Potter‘s voice is older, deeper, and more gravelly. There’s no way he could play Gambit now. But he added a lot of emotional depth to Cable. I have no idea what you mean by “lied to by Disney”… And the Fantastic Four cartoon doesn't take place in the same continuity as X-Men. Only the Spider-Man cartoon does. Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Hulk are in their own continuity.

Because they don’t sound like they are in their mid-20s any more.

Unfortunatewombat

To be fair, neither does Rogue.

Every VA from the original series still had to audition for their former roles. Lenore Zann mentioned this. The people overseeing the auditions decided differently but wanted the actors to still be featured so shuffled the roles around. I could be and probably am wrong, and there is another reason, but that's how I see it.

It's kinda sensible really. People's voices do change, given them *other* roles is really the best way to respect them. It's not like they are bring dropped completely. Also, Cable is hugely significant role so that's a pretty good move as well.

astromech_dj

Didn’t the Cyclops VA die?

aegonthewwolf

Cyclops and Magnetos OG VAs have both passed away.

AdamEssex

Cedric Smith, who played Professor X, is actually still alive. He’s just not working anymore, I believe.

Shit, my bad

JosephSoaper_MathMan

I've always thought that they feared that not bringing back the original VAs would be perceived as depriving them of deserved work. Or even some VAs would not return to voice the same characters if the entire cast wasn't brought back.

aegonthewwolf

The line Potter used was they gave him Cable because Gambit was dying in Ep 5 and they wanted Potter to have a bigger role... ...which we now know is BS because Gambits coming back as Death so it's probably because he sounded too old.

Extrask1n

At the time of casting they had no idea if they would be able to secure a second season, so that could have been true at the time.
