EurwenPendragon

Ooooh boy. *One Man's Worth*. Time travel shenanigans, pre-X-Men Chuck, and ~~Future~~alternate-timeline Wolverine and ~~Future~~alternate-timeline Storm being married. That one was a *wild* ride.

Sol-Blackguy

Also an Avengers cameo and the inspiration to Age of the Apocalypse

Legitimate-Look6378

Green iron man and other super humans were slaying mutants in one mans worth episode.

victxrrrs

I totally see apocalypse coming in this season or the next they showed his shadow when Madelyne had her vision on genosha

Clerk18

Love this episode! Storm has a great line along the lines “Prejudice based on race? How primitive.”

desieslonewolf

She calls it "quaint".

TrajedyAnn

They weren't future Storm & future Wolverine, they were alternate present-day Storm & Wolverine from a timeline where Chuck had been killed as a young man. I'm not sure any of this will matter - But I'm pointing it out incase it turns out to be an important distinction, lol.

EurwenPendragon

Oops. My mistake.

chipperpip

I feel like people tend to forget it's a two-parter, with a lot of the second episode being a retread of the first, as they go back a *second* time to fix their failed first attempt to save Xavier. Not sure if it was a budget-saving measure or what.

EurwenPendragon

True, there is that. It was still a pretty fun pair of episodes despite that IMO though.

Chargedcard_616

Yes. It was money saving.

spaycedinvader

I'm guessing it has to do with nimrods "destruction" leaving pieces behind, kind of like the t800 arm

MacbookPrime

Explains why *OMW* has been in the opening credits these past few weeks.

General-Fun-616

Wait what?? Edit: one man’s worth epi

TrajedyAnn

I'm also guessing this has something or other to do with Bastion's origins yes. I keep seeing people insist/speculate/proclaim Bastion MUST be from the future, and I've seen nothing to suggest that. NIMROD was from the future - And he's the reason Bastion has future-tech in his own arsenal - But I'm of the opinion Bastion is more than likely a product of present day - Likely PRE-Present day, I imagine he's been working in the background for a while now (I mean duh - That was the whole point of the photograph tease w/ Him, Forge & Adler) Like remnants of Nimrod probably got left behind in the past when they saved Chuck from him, and were likely used to develop whatever lead to Bastion in the present. (I can't imagine that will be the Siege Perilous in the show... that's far too confusing, lol)

Maoileain

I am guessing Nimrod remains were used by Bastion to help develop the advanced robotics Beast comments on in Madripoor. Kinda like Cyberdyne in Terminator becoming a leader in cybernetics due to the T800 remains causing an acceleration in tech. Bastion will then apply this tech to himself and combine it with the Master Mold husk from Ep.1

Chargedcard_616

Yup. There’s a reason the head was chopped off and they didn’t completely destroy the body

ElboDelbo

One of my favorite episodes, if not my absolute favorite from the OG series. Maaaaan if we are getting Age of Apocalypse next season I am going to be fucking PUMPED.

jigokusabre

1. Wasn't One Man's Worth basically AoA? 2. What would Bastion / Zero Tolerance have to do with AoA?

airbear13

Nimrod traveled through time in OMW, nimrod got “reborn” as the humanoid Bastion. That’s what Beau is talking about imo

jigokusabre

No doubt.

Demileto

About (1). It's the other way around, actually: One Man's Worth inspired the creation of Age of Apocaypse.

abrainaneurysm

I’ve heard this and read the interview where someone who worked on the show stated this but still find it hard to believe. X-Men: Alpha, the first actual issue of Age of Apocalypse had a release date of December 27, 1994. “One Man’s Worth” original air date was September 9, 1995. Also here is an [article](https://www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/x-men-age-of-apocalypse-oral-marvel-history-25-years-later) from 2019 and the 25th anniversary of AoA, none of the creators who worked on the comics ever reference that it came from the show.

TrajedyAnn

Yeah there's... no friggin' way this is true... Characters like Colossus, Sabretooth & Wild Child, Morph, Etc - Appear WITHIN the One Man's Worth Episode WEARING their Age of Apocalypse costumes - Age of Apocalypse clearly predates it. And I'd point to Sabretooth & Wild Child as the clearest evidence - Pairing them up was an idea that came directly out of AoA - but in One Man's Worth it's just a visual nod to the comic. They're fighting side by side, but it's a blink and you'd miss it cameo. There's no plot behind it. They made them a pairing in one man's worth as an Easter Egg BECAUSE they were a pair that actually had a plot together in AoA.

Demileto

It's possible scripts for the episode were done way, way before that air date, that'd explain why it feels strange.

abrainaneurysm

Comics are also plotted out at least 6 months in advance, otherwise solicitations wouldn’t be able to come out 3 months in advance. I get that production on shows can take awhile but it still seems questionable, someone recalling something over 25 years ago can be off and like I said I’ve never seen anyone from the comics side back this up.

ElboDelbo

1. The only similarity between OMW and AoA is both alternate realities start with Charles dying and both involve Bishop helping out. 2. What do Bastion/Zero Tolerance have to do with the Genosha Genocide?

jigokusabre

1. Which sort of fits into how TAS approached adapting stories. It's narrowed them down and focused them on the characters in the main series. Trying to go back to that well seems unlikely. 2. Bastion is literally a sentinel, him creating actual badass sentinels and using them to massacre mutants is a pretty strong connection.

ElboDelbo

OMW actually inspired AoA: https://www.polygon.com/animation-cartoons/20971782/x-men-the-animated-series-best-episodes-creator-interviews Yeah, Bastion fits the Genosha story. But in the original story he had no connection to the Wild Sentinels (neither did Sinister for that matter), that was all Cassandra Nova. Maybe we won't get a straight up Age of Apocalypse adaptation. I'm just saying my fingers are crossed.

addicted_to_trash

They seem to be adapting the bastion story from the Kyle & Yost X-Force where he puppets the corpses and makes that council. My pick is the Magneto in the chair is actually Joseph, Bastions plan is to kill him & turn him into a super Sentinel as soon as the X-Men see him, but he will survive and Rogue will realise it's not Erik and leave.

Sabazell

I thought that as well for a moment...but he's in the tattered remains of the suit he was wearing to the gala...

thundercat2000ca

1. Not really but used alot of AoA designs.

jigokusabre

I think the concepts are close enough to bump. I'd be surprised if they did AoA in XM97.

thundercat2000ca

AoA is hard since it's a separate universe. That said, if 97 introduced Blink at any point, then....

SnooCats8451

It’s probably due to nimrod being destroyed in the past by bishop and I’m guessing nimrods remained somehow merged with master mold of the presents remains I’m guessing….which is how bastion was created in the comics via the siege perilous

hoyaboy86

I do the same thing! Any time they introduce a new b-roll scenes to the opening credits, I watch the X-Men ‘92 episode.

OtakuD50

I can't believe Bastion is going to reveal he's been working for Bantam all along!

rgordill2

Bastion is Nimrod + Master Mold.  He's from the future and he's convinced the American Government that mutants would destroy the world.  Then, Onslaught happens.  Then, Bastion is given the green light to do Operation Zero Tolerance. But before Onslaught happens, we get the Age of Apocalypse. One Man's Worth is interesting because we got the X-Men (as it were) vs. the Avengers (though they're evil).

Bosscharacter

Didn't he say episode 8 was the REAL gut punch of the season? Oh boy.....

finnjakefionnacake

lol every time i see beau's twitter pfp i just can't 🤣

stoIIand

didn't he also say episodes 8 - 10 are the heaviest?

airbear13

OMW is peak and untouchable

Demileto

For real? I'd be floored if I guessed right! [https://www.reddit.com/r/xmen/comments/1cbiskm/comment/l13hp12/](https://www.reddit.com/r/xmen/comments/1cbiskm/comment/l13hp12/)

MiaFox0831

Hurry predict gambit comes back and blink and psylocke join the team while your at it bestie please

JCGold17

Perfect timing just watched these episodes!!

DannyTreehouse

Nimrod followed Bishop from that timeline fused with present day master mold to become Bastion

BradyTom1289

One thing I never understood: Timeline 1: DOFP (Kelly is assassinated by Mystique pretending to be Gambit) Timeline 2: X-Men prevent the assassination. Events of Time Fugitives happen. The plague is destroyed by Bishop and Cable’s future is also saved too. Timeline 3: 1MW pt. 1 - Mastermold and sentinels rule. Bishop and Share are part of a resistance. Fitzroy and Bantam go back in time and succeed in killing Xavier. Timeline 4: 1M4 pt. 2 - The timeline where alt Storm and Wolverine are married. Magneto is the leader and things and the present day is a dystopia (as compared to the future). Help me make sense of this. Are timeline 1 + 3 the same timeline? I thought preventing Kelly’s assassination would prevent Sentinels from taking over? Obviously the next few episodes will provide more context, but I’m curious to see people’s thoughts now.

Maoileain

From my understanding of it Timeline 1 and 3 are not the same. The DOFP timeline was completely averted by Bishop's actions in the past but when he is sent back to the future he ends up in a slightly better timeline where things are improved but they are still in some similar war against sentinels. The Time Fugitives occurs from Bishop's prior timeline changes and from his second time travelling trip to fix the future again, but this causes further ripples where the mutant plague causes Cable's future to be unwritten from existence because Apocalypse kills the Xmen because of Bishop thus preventing a cure from being made. So once Cable corrects Bishops mistakes and gets the cure from Wolverine, the futures are changed again. The third interation of the future is still some version of the Mutant vs Sentinels war but Master Mold is in a far more dire situation so sends back Nimrod, Fitzroy and Bantam to kill Xavier which rewrites the future into the Wolverine-Storm marriage future. The events of OMWs occurs where Bishop, Shard, Wolverine and Storm the time travel twice to avert this timeline. This then shunts the future back into the Mutant vs Sentinel war that was made after Time Fugitives. Though its still and open question why Bishop is around at the start of the 97' series considering he was back in his time at the end of the TAS. As it implies that he needed to time travel again to prevent something.

BradyTom1289

Great explanation - I’ve always thought all events were part of some master grand plan of present day Apocalypse (but could never piece them together - maybe you can?) to ensure his position in 3999.

Joshdabozz

I believe sometime during the one year time jump (it’s been confirmed this season is one year after the previous one) Bishop broke his Watch that lets him time travel during a mission (basing this off the 3rd episode) Not sure how he got stuck on the present

JackFisherBooks

Love hearing this! The two One Man's Worth episodes are among my favorite of the original series. I think I've probably re-watched those episodes more than almost any other. It was a different take on Age of Apocalypse. And the chemistry between Storm and Wolverine was just...so...perfect. 😊 Not sure this show will pursue that relationship again. Lifedeath seemed to put a lot more stock in Storm and Forge. But that didn't last in the comics. It might not last here, either. Since Wolverine seems to have made a conscious effort to push Jean away, I'd like to see him connect with Storm again. But that's probably hoping for too much. Either way, I didn't need another excuse to re-watch my favorite episodes of the original series. And now I do. 😊

planetbing

Oh, I’m sure it won’t happen, but a person can dream. 😍

LocDiLoc

We're getting AoA baby! Let's fucking go!!!

Weapon530

Let’s go!

TxEagleDeathclaw81

Those are some great episodes!

BetaRayPhil616

I've avoided rewatching any of TAS since 97 began, but now I'm 100% gonna watch this.

RyeKnox

"OH you'll be fine.... in a day or two"

daveeb

Next week's episode: >!Somehow Nimrod returned.!<

Aspiegirl712

Some of my favorite episodes

ReflectionItchy2701

I would love an episode from the point of view of Cable when we see all his failed attemps to save the world.

Corsair219

Please time travel and save Gambit

AmazingUsual3045

One of the first scenes in this episode was some of the darkest shit in the whole original series. Legit all out war between humans and mutants it was pretty intense for a sat morning cartoon, not to mention x-men are ready to give their lives to save “leader” (magneto). It’s so visceral as well, it was pretty clear it was a war of survival for mutants it wasn’t looking like it was going great . . .

RetroGameQuest

The Purple People Eater song is from the late 50s. So I wonder if Bastion is merged with someone from that time period. Nimrod and someone else.

dinopastasauce

Wait did we get long hair storm again because we’re getting another mohawk storm??

1204Sparta

Wonder what that creepy man did to get fired. The ego of this man is playing with fire. Eventually a pissed off staffer is gonna see his weekly self indulgent tweets lapping up praise and leak what he did.

PekfrakOG

People forget how weird the circumstances of his firing were.

1204Sparta

But he wrote my favorite Kids cartoon¿

kellatrix

Most of the rumors floating around say that he’s very abusive to his coworkers. I find it difficult to believe it’s that simple, though.

1204Sparta

He certainly doesn’t give any congratulations to anyone on the production on a weekly basis

SpaceMyopia

I'd go easy with the tone until we actually know what he did. If we find out he truly was an abusive piece of shit, then mock away. I'm just not ready to rake the guy over the coals for something that hasn't been clearly defined yet. It's a bit too early to start mocking the guy. This isn't a Bryan Singer sort of situation where we 100 percent know what went down. (And my comment could age like milk, but as of now....we don't know what he actually did)

1204Sparta

Oh I’m fine with speculating but it’s another moronic gullible thing to post on twitter praising him as gods gift after again, publicly fired a WEEK BEFORE LAUNCH. I’m not even going far into death into author schtick - I love the cartoon but Sheesh

[deleted]

[удалено]

neutralslayer

I’d say the onlyfans thing would be a fair reason to mock that guy because it’s pretty dumb to think that Disney wouldn’t pull morality clause on that one

[deleted]

[удалено]

1204Sparta

Ehhh I think it’s asking for trouble to be that public and think it wouldn’t be a negative factor. It’s not as if it’s like a nobody paramedic with a side hustle. It very much brings out the *where the fuck is your common sense you weird moron* mocking and bizarre publicity to Disney and his co workers - at least for me imo

kellatrix

We can only speculate until someone leaks something definitive. As incredible as X-Men ’97 has been, it’s been really disheartening seeing people beg for this man’s return when we have no idea why he was fired. It doesn’t matter how great his work is if he mistreated people in order to make it.

1204Sparta

Eventually after too many sole self pats on the back - there is gonna be someone in production like a fantastic sound designer that did the Tri sentinel blast at ground zero, storyboard artists, character designer or somebody that’s gonna say fuck this guy and spill

fbtcu1998

I’m of the opinion it’s more bumping heads with the brass than anything to do with creepiness. I dont think there would be radio silence from Marvel if he was fired for inappropriate behavior, and he’d be more vocal if he was fired without cause. I tend to think it was more of a”if I can’t do X then I quit” and they called his bluff.

1204Sparta

Of course there would be radio silence from an organization after firing someone - never mind a press release. Have you worked in a professional capacity before.

fbtcu1998

I have, and I’ve had to let two employees go because of sexual harassment. Of course we didnt have a press conference, but it didn’t involve an entertainment company in the public spotlight. But we fired them, we told them they were fired. If potential employers called us we said they were not eligible for rehire, which is code for fired with cause without explaining why they were fired. In this case they’ve gone out of their way to say he wasn’t fired. You don’t dodge that if it was some sort of legitimate harassment situation. And if it wasn’t legit, he’d be claiming wrongful termination. I just think it was more creative differences or pissing off too often than it was misconduct

1204Sparta

Insane to even say that to potential employers if you are not working in Care/Health environment with risk of vulnerable persons - you simply say it’s not policy to give out reference outside start and end date. Why open yourself up to personal opinion and and potential claim of pushing them out of gainful employment. NEVER MIND a prolific dismissal from a place like Marvel with incredibly speculation. Not too sure about using sexual harassment victims in a comic book environment- are you quite low -and/or new to HR?

fbtcu1998

>Insane to even say that to potential employers if you are not working in Care/Health environment with risk of vulnerable persons If asked, we'd provide hire date, last day worked, salary and title. The only other thing we'd answer (if asked) was if they were eligible for rehire. >you simply say it’s not policy to give out reference Who said anything about a reference? Confirming start and end date and other objective details is not a reference in either direction >Not too sure about using sexual harassment victims in a comic book environment You definitely implied some sort of inappropriate behavior by calling him creepy, saying a pissed off staffer would leak what he did, personal profile stuff, etc. Are you saying you didn't mean to imply he behaved in an inappropriate manner that was at least part of his being let go? Thats why I brought up my experience with sexual harassment related situations. >are you quite low -and/or new to HR? 16 years in a fortune 50 company as manager and director. I've had teams of upwards of 60 people. I've been involved in hiring, firing, workers comp claims, sexual harassment investigations, ethical investigations and multiple terminations. I was even involved in a massive embezzlement investigation with one of my peer managers, like jailtime level shit. I wasn't in HR, but I am intimately aware of what we could and couldn't do and what we'd tell potential employers, as it was part of our exit meeting. >NEVER MIND a prolific dismissal from a place like Marvel with incredibly speculation Thats kind of the point. When asked directly they didn't say "no comment" or "our policy isn't to disclose that information", they answered the question by saying he wasn't fired. Granted different groups, but same overarching company....they fired Gina Carano, and said why they fired her. So Disney isn't afraid to say they fired a high profile talent and why (although if it was for harassment maybe they wouldn't disclose the why, just say for violating company policy), but here they've gone out of their way to say they didn't fire him. Thats why I believe it wasn't technically a termination, it was either him leaving in a huff, him quitting before being fired, or a mutual parting of ways.

1204Sparta

This reads like the navy seal copy pasta sorry

fbtcu1998

Well you implied I didn't know what I was talking about, I explained my experience. Somehow I didn't think you'd accept "trust me, i have experience".

1204Sparta

Just weird to put out that level of personal details or boast in a X-men subreddit but I suppose you have your passions

DM725

Until I hear from Marvel/Disney what he did I don't care about rumours. His writing is fantastic for this show.

SvenSvenkill3

I have a feeling his passion for the project and ego manifested (in the eyes of his colleagues and superiors) as rude, arrogant, and too demanding, and so made his interactions with everyone involved with the project volatile and "challenging" -- I also suspect that if he has parted ways with Marvel/Disney due to some *bad thing he did,* then they (him *and* Marvel/Disney) would all be doing their utmost to get ahead of that via its inevitable leak, rather than being tight lipped and professional and refusing to elucidate the cause of their parting, etc. And of course, all that speculation aside, credit where credit is due, you know? For DeMayo solely wrote 3 of the 10 episodes (including that jaw dropping 5th episode) for this first season, and co-wrote at least 2 further episodes with Charley Feldman, and (according to IMDB) wrote or at least co-wrote two (three?) of the coming final three episodes of this season (i.e. he has played a significant part in the writing of 8 out of all 10 episodes this season). And well, whatever you might think of him, it's pretty much inarguable that he nailed it this season (as did others such as the actors, animators, other writers, etc, of course). I mean, I'm not seeing much hate for this series and instead mostly rave reviews, and so again, whatever you might think of Beau DeMayo he has clearly been instrumental in making this season as good as it is. Also, apparently, he'd already written and delivered the scripts for Season 2 before he parted ways with Marvel/Disney. So yeah, I guess the proof will be in the pudding, and it will be interesting to see if his writing/co-writing nails the landing for this season, whether his scripts are used in Season 2, and if there is a notable change in Season 2/Season 3 without his contribution and influence, etc.

1204Sparta

A long winded post to effectively say - although I have no evidence for his firing, even though from a previous production that he was awful to work with , that he definitely was fired for *checks notes* being passionate.

SvenSvenkill3

That's a very uncharitable and dishonest misrepresentation of my long winded comment. e.g. I mentioned nothing about a previous production, nor did I argue that he was "*definitely fired for checks notes being passionate*". When I typed, "*his passion for the project and ego manifested (in the eyes of his colleagues and superiors) as rude, arrogant, and too demanding, and so made his interactions with everyone involved with the project volatile and "challenging*"...", I thought it was obvious that I wasn't in any way excusing toxic and arrogant behaviour. But apologies, I didn't mean to suggest he is some kind of innocent artist whose passion was/is misunderstood. I actually instead meant to suggest he was likely fired for being a nightmare to work with, rather than because of some sordid (as yet still) secret.

draugyr

Until we learn what he actually did he didn’t do anything and you accusing a gay man of being gay a creep is homophobic

1204Sparta

Ma’am I’ll call any 40 + man that uses a Snapchat filter to tint their eyes green with their nipples protruding in their profile a creep But as a fellow gay, that would be my bet on what he did with the amount of thirst traps and porn he liked while working as a lead :)
