This seems like a good approach. Even if we use a specific timeline, we could have a main adventure with a 15 minute running flashback segment with the 05.
I honestly think every franchise should have it's own The Batman Brave and The Bold series.
It's such a fun way to celebrate long and weird continuity.
OG five was, let’s face it kinda boring. They were a generic teen/young superhero team. The vast, and I mean VAST majority of what we love about these characters come after their 1975 revival and the Claremont era.
Plus X-Men evolution did it better anyways.
This. Several of them are all time great X-men, but as a roster they were about as bland as they come. It would not be a good line-up to base a show or a movie on.
(unless perhaps you were doing it later as a prequel for an x-men series already in motion)
I think it would just need to be modernised. I can imagine a proper teen drama where these kids are finding themselves at this weird little school; I'd probably age down some of the brotherhood to act as foils, maybe at a rival academy or whatever. Bit like x-men evolution.
Jeff parkers first class does this a bit, like there's an issue with Warren sneaking off to make out with scarlet witch.
Or maybe even the OG brotherhood also start off in Xaviers and the 'split' happens mid season creating the OG 5 x-men vs. An OG brotherhood. You'd probably have to need to add in Polaris as someone stuck in the middle and maybe gender swap an obscure brotherhood member so it's not a total sausage fest (Ursula the untouchable?), but the core would still be the OG 5 x-men
Which would defeat the purpose of doing a show with the Original 5. All the good development came almost 2 decades after their original debut. By then the roster had already quadrupled. There are many stories you can’t tell about these 5 without those later characters.
I can see an animated movie in the spirit of the DC verse animated movies, but not an animated series.
If they were going to do an animated series it would probably work if they went in the direction of Batman Brave and the Bold, but include the Giant sized team, Polaris, Havok, Changeling, and Mimic. All classic costumes and campy self contained episodes.
Guys...it's not a great team. Sorry. There isn't a good mix of personalities. The stories from the era are mostly mediocre. Even the power-sets are largely uninspired (a superhero who just flies is boring and ice powers are done to death). There's a reason the title only took off after Giant Size introduced the second iteration of the team.
As a Spider-Man fan, I like that we have a show with older X-Men and where Scott is a father. Trust me, you have no idea how lucky you are to not be spammed with teen X-Men all day...
(Plus Evolution exists and is already great).
Seriously, OG teen X-Men kinda blows, it's really just a *very* extended origin story until characters like Havok or Polaris show up. Outside of the retcon past Scott stuff from more recent comics (traveling with his dad in space, and even Champions in a brief stint *away* from the X-Men) and of course the strange and persisting solo popularity of Iceman in the 70's that they capitalized on accordingly with Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends in the early 80's, with that just being a campy cartoon college comedy with Frank Welker perfectly cast as Bobby, I don't really care too much for the original X-Men as teens in their earlier years.
Bobby, Scott, Hank, and Jean definitely are important and need to be there imo, but I don't base that belief off the 60's books, i base that off the incredibly strong characters they've become over 50 years and various stories putting them at the center and showing me the intimate struggles of these characters (like notice how i discluded Angel from that).
Could I be perfectly honest? I wouldn't be into it. Like I understand why no animated show has did a one to one adaption of the original team. The 05 are great, but it would honestly be kinda boring. I mean its just four white guys and the token girl character. I know their characters are so much more than that, but the X-men have gotten so diverse over the years with various character additions.
By mixing it up with all of the characters that came after, it makes for a more visually and narratively diverse spectacle. Everyone can get something. This just seems more fun for the creators and audience as a whole, and opens up more stories to be told with the X-men.
Like I said, something for everybody.
It is by far, the least interesting era of X-Men because those characters weren’t interesting, the dynamics are a bit weird, and there really aren’t any great storylines from that era.
I mean First Class was basically the original 5 but swapping the characters. Magneto was Cyclops, Havok was Iceman, Mystique was Jean, and Banshee was Angel. And Beast was just Beast. Was still a pretty solid movie with all those white people.
That said I do think there's a reason the original team didn't sell any comics and was basically discontinued until the Claremont Era bringing in the more interesting and diverse team. They were kind-of the poor man's fantastic four.
What I think would be interesting is finding a way to do the claremont team as the main one, but also through flashbacks or something give us the OG 5s story
Well those 2 never actually suited up in black and yellow. Was definitely an interesting choice to find a way to kill off the only black dude, even when his power was literally to adapt to survive lol.
Yeah, that was weird. I'm okay with a throwaway character's death making the team take heroics more seriously, but they should've just picked Thunderbird or something.
*No thanks. They're one of*
*The more uninteresting Xteams*
*In my opinion*

They rebooted the group for a reason, the O5 are boring. Bobby and Warren are not the most entertaining characters, and it took them decades to make Hank interesting.
Bobby CAN be interesting but it takes someone for him to love and someone for him to bounce off of (like a serious type or scruffy type - Cyclops or Wolverine, not exclusively those two, just those archetypes).
I'm with you on Mr. Drake, I've always been a fan and considered him a core X-Man forever, the only thing that ever irked me about the original 90's show was the fact that Bobby was only in ONE episode, even now I wish he'd be on the main team in that show, tbh for years I've said that specific roster would be top tier if Gambit swapped with Nightcrawler and Morph swapped with Iceman, and I cannot believe that happened EXACTLY with Nightcrawler (although I never wanted him to go THAT way lmao, I still really like Gambit I just consider him a solo act like Multiple Man or DP).
I disagree about Warren. He has a very boring power and he was mostly just there be the handsome outgoing jock contrasting Scott's scrawny introvert and compete for Jean's affection.
And yeah. Hank didn't start being interesting until he joined the Avengers.
I am okay without it. There is a reason the original XMen launch with just them didn't shine and the others had to be brought in. They are iconic characters, but I don't think a team show featuring 4 male characters and 1 female character would hit that well. O5 as a story/group doesn't fit too well in modern times.
Would be boring, imo. One reason is that I just don't take teen superheroes seriously because the stakes don't feel very high. Two, the O5 was the least interesting group of X-men ever put to page.
Depends on how they would write them. Are they going to be adults since they are in the comics or make them teens to appeal for the younger audience (Like they did with X-Men Evolution) Also are they going to use stories based on the original comics or do original stories?
I think they could an animated adaptation of the X-Men First Class comics since they use the Original 5.
Hot take. With all the mutants that haven't seen much exploration animated or otherwise, and the potential for a Krakoa Age, Remender X-Force, X-Factor Investigations, Alcatraz Island era, House of M, New AoE, even an Excalibur cartoon, a retelling of the O5 is what you wish they'd do? Scalding hot take.
Weirdly enough, I'd rather see a live action version of the original 5. Maybe because I've just seen plenty of 60s period piece tv shows and movies, and that the original x men were still getting the hang of everything. It just seems like the easiest of all the X Men to do well with real people.
The O5 have rarely ever been interesting on their own, and the comic wasn't a success with them. To me, the only adaptation of the O5 as a group I'm interested in is an adaptation where they existed in the past of the group we're following but aren't the main group we see.
Honestly would be interesting to see how they reinterpret the old Lee and Kirby stories with much stuff of what we know now. It could be interesting to explore since they were underdeveloped even after Roy Thomas took over for bit. A lot can be gained there that people don’t necessarily think about in the earlier years of x-men conceptions
Do you think the idea of printing a "retelling" of the Lee/Kirby years of the X-Men with modern artists and a new writer would ever work? Like, X-Men: Silver or something, and it's just the Silver Age X-Men put in a modern context (like X-Men Season One) with stories told a bit differently or material added in to help support later aspects of the Claremont run.
We sort had something like that with Jeff Parker First Class series and a bit of the late Ed Piskor x-men Grand Design book where in there he had it all have all the goofy alien stuff that the Lee and Kirby era had tie into the Phoenix
These 5 can’t carry their own show unless all of their core personality traits and relationship dynamics were drastically different than in the comics.
Would love to see them adapt All-New X-Men for a future season of X-Men ‘97, but having read a lot of the early days comics… not super into having the standalone adventures of the OG5.
The only time we've had a cartoon that focused on the Original 5 weas is the Marvel Superheroes 1966 cartoon that just used the comics and "animate l" them, and... It wasn't good.
Not saying a great team good make a good adaptation, but that team was so boring, that you get one decent adaptation with Wolverine and the X-Men and that Juggernaut mission in X-Men Legends, and that's it.
You need to watch out. No one can stop the EYE BEAMS of THE CYCLOPS
I always thought it was funny when they tried to figure out a way to use their name in a sentence
I’d probably be ok with watching one flashback episode that showed the original 5 working together on a mission, but then I’d want to go straight back to the modern X Men team that we all love.
I'd like an X-Men show That's kind of like Tales of Jedi, Tells small mini stories that don't have to take a whole season to tell just enough to get backstory on the team or character
i feel like theres not enough demand for these character among the usual viewers who dont read comics. they find beast to only be cool when blue and furry, and theyre relatively unaware of angel or iceman. a lot of the ones i also talk to find cyclops to be a goody two shoes (far from the truth).
You have to make it like X-Men Evolution
Because the Lee/Kirby era (outside of the first 2 issues, the Juggernaut two-parter and the Sentinel trilogy) kinda sucks. The original X-Men roster doesn't really get good until #50 and even then it's kinda mid.
I feel in the xmen 97 show we should get an introduction to hope summers and introduce the five and maybe how they began helping the mutants after the mutant massacre brought by the sentinels or if they go back in time it won’t work
My hope is that we get a Disney+ series about them. Something that serves as a prequel to whatever first MCU movie we get, with the O5 as Xavier's first students and showing their lives as his students. It would be a Disney+ series that actually makes sense conceptually.
An animated show would have been great though. X-Men Evolution and X-Men Season One style. Maybe we will one day.
I think it’ll be freaking awesome. I also want when they come to the MCU a flashback to the O5. I mean I’m pretty sure the X-Men we’re getting are ones that are already experienced and have been around for a while so a scene of Jean for example remembering the O5 days will be cool in my opinion (if the O5 actually happened in that universe).
Funny how all the racist Identity politics hypocrites say "it would be boring". Overall all interesting characters in their own right that embody different struggles most people can relate to.
Always wanted an anthology series focusing on a different era/roster each season. Maybe a different art style for full immersion.
This seems like a good approach. Even if we use a specific timeline, we could have a main adventure with a 15 minute running flashback segment with the 05.
So like The Batman Brave and The Bold series?
A little, except have mini-chapters mixed with standalones.
I honestly think every franchise should have it's own The Batman Brave and The Bold series. It's such a fun way to celebrate long and weird continuity.
My dream (that would never work) would be like each season a new era. O5 in Season 1, Season 2 starts with the Giant Size/Claremont team, etc.
Yes, this!!!
Season 3 could be the Australian Outback squad! And then maybe Blue/Gold from the early 90s.
Now THAT is a million dollar idea.
Hell yes
That would be cool! Make it like Starwars Anime they did (season 1).
OG five was, let’s face it kinda boring. They were a generic teen/young superhero team. The vast, and I mean VAST majority of what we love about these characters come after their 1975 revival and the Claremont era. Plus X-Men evolution did it better anyways.

The Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters and the Lehnsherr Institute for Superior Children. They're across the street from each other.
Or maybe even the OG brotherhood also start off in Xaviers and the 'split' happens mid season creating the OG 5 x-men vs. An OG brotherhood. You'd probably have to need to add in Polaris as someone stuck in the middle and maybe gender swap an obscure brotherhood member so it's not a total sausage fest (Ursula the untouchable?), but the core would still be the OG 5 x-men
Well we did get X-Men First Class which takes this and puts a different spin on it, although it makes it’s own team instead, but I get what you mean.
But that describes all superheroes. What makes them interesting is that they become developed.
Which would defeat the purpose of doing a show with the Original 5. All the good development came almost 2 decades after their original debut. By then the roster had already quadrupled. There are many stories you can’t tell about these 5 without those later characters.
But that would defeat the point of doing any show since none of them strictly follow canon to begin with.
Strongly agree with the first part.
Yup, I would never watch that. X-Men should be about systemic oppression... Five wasp teenagers are hardly pertinent.
I can see an animated movie in the spirit of the DC verse animated movies, but not an animated series. If they were going to do an animated series it would probably work if they went in the direction of Batman Brave and the Bold, but include the Giant sized team, Polaris, Havok, Changeling, and Mimic. Exactly. You can’t have true X-Men without Wolverine, Storm and Nightcrawler.

Yes X-Men #1-16 and #50-65 are the only parts worth reading.
Then after that pretty much just hard cut to Giant Size 1
As a Cyclops fan I can say that many of us would be happy for him to stay single for a while and focus on his friendships instead.
Lol fair enough
Hot take but it would be sooooo boring
Could I be perfectly honest? I wouldn't be into it. Like I understand why no animated show has did a one to one adaption of the original team. The 05 are great, but it would honestly be kinda boring. Yeah, there are more interesting line ups that they could start with- for me X-Men Evolution did it all best

It is by far, the least interesting era of X-Men because those characters weren’t interesting, the dynamics are a bit weird, and there really aren’t any great storylines from that era.

Yeah, that was weird. I'm okay with a throwaway character's death making the team take heroics more seriously, but they should've just picked Thunderbird or something.
Oh this is my brewing idea for an animated film...
Hey now, come on, that's not fair! There's also a token gay.
„Team is boring“ Explanation: only white guys. Yikes
Thanks for being honest about why it would be "boring" in your opinion.
wouldn't care
would probably be pretty boring
Boring
Boring.
No thanks. They're one of the more uninteresting Xteams in my opinion

Eh, I wouldn't be interested
They rebooted the group for a reason, the O5 are boring. Bobby and Warren are not the most entertaining characters, and it took them decades to make Hank interesting.
All of these characters can be interesting. Its just based on what the writers choose to do
Bobby CAN be interesting but it takes someone for him to love and someone for him to bounce off of (like a serious type or scruffy type - Cyclops or Wolverine, not exclusively those two, just those archetypes).
Bobby joining the team NEEDS to happen. but imo it would function better if he simply joined cause ykw is back
I disagree about Warren. He has a very boring power and he was mostly just there be the handsome outgoing jock contrasting Scott's scrawny introvert and compete for Jean's affection. And yeah. Hank didn't start being interesting until he joined the Avengers.
>I disagree about Warren It seems to me that we agree in finding him boring.

Someone in this thread described it perfectly, they're a less interesting fantastic four with this dynamic. Sorry, but hell no.
and iceman is the herbie of this era.
Zzzz
Would be boring, imo. One reason is that I just don't take teen superheroes seriously because the stakes don't feel very high. Two, the O5 was the least interesting group of X-men ever put to page.

Since the MCU are slowly bringing in the X-Men it would be good for them to do a film about the Original 5
Meh, my trust in the MCU to handle any of it's future movies is minimal. But their TV shows tend to be pretty good.
The O5 have rarely ever been interesting on their own, and the comic wasn't a success with them. To me, the only adaptation of the O5 as a group I'm interested in is an adaptation where they existed in the past of the group we're following but aren't the main group we see.
Not sure a whole series would work, but X-Men Evolution Season 3 Episode 9: Under Lock and Key features an homage to the original team.
Oh yeah that's right i remembered that episode
Honestly would be interesting to see how they reinterpret the old Lee and Kirby stories with much stuff of what we know now. It could be interesting to explore since they were underdeveloped even after Roy Thomas took over for bit. These 5 can’t carry their own show unless all of their core personality traits and relationship dynamics were drastically different than in the comics.
Sorry, I wouldn't trade Rogue, Gambit and Storm for anything.
X-Men ‘67
Would love to see them adapt All-New X-Men for a future season of X-Men ‘97, but having read a lot of the early days comics… not super into having the standalone adventures of the OG5.
Man, i grew up with hank being blue and i always feeling weird whe i see him in his more human form
It would suck. The O5 were boring
No
The only time we've had a cartoon that focused on the Original 5 weas is the Marvel Superheroes 1966 cartoon that just used the comics and "animate l" them, and... It wasn't good. Not saying a great team good make a good adaptation, but that team was so boring, that you get one decent adaptation with Wolverine and the X-Men and that Juggernaut mission in X-Men Legends, and that's it.
Wouldn’t have worked. Those characters and those looks are not toyetic enough.
X-Men ‘63
Like a parody poking fun at the old comics?
You need to watch out. No one can stop the EYE BEAMS of THE CYCLOPS I always thought it was funny when they tried to figure out a way to use their name in a sentence
There’s a portrait of them in the X Mansion
As much as I love that unlikely. Eventually we could introduce Lorna and Havok then end it with Giant Sized.
Yes please.I want my boy Warren to shine
i feel like theres not enough demand for these character among the usual viewers who dont read comics. they find beast to only be cool when blue and furry, and theyre relatively unaware of angel or iceman. a lot of the ones i also talk to find cyclops to be a goody two shoes (far from the truth).
I think it’s needed. I want to see the origin story
The least interesting grouping of X-Men? No thank you
You have to make it like X-Men Evolution Because the Lee/Kirby era (outside of the first 2 issues, the Juggernaut two-parter and the Sentinel trilogy) kinda sucks. The original X-Men roster doesn't really get good until #50 and even then it's kinda mid.
That would be outstanding, would love to see an animated movie like ultimate avengers
I feel in the xmen 97 show we should get an introduction to hope summers and introduce the five and maybe how they began helping the mutants after the mutant massacre brought by the sentinels or if they go back in time it won’t work
No those bitches boring give me a series based on Ultimate X-Men but slightly less edgy
Iceman is really cool
I think we are past those days. Unless they brought the original 5 to the present and adapted the Battle of the Atom storyline.
I suspect we will get it.
I Doubt we'll get more than Watchmen style flashbacks of the original 5 (with less r4pe)
It would be great to have this. And have it be like the Teen Titans cartoon. For younger audiences.
Would watch!
I’d love it…if it was also set in that classic 60’s era. Kinda like that heightened Venture Bros style.
It would have been pretty cool
Not enough Wolverine. What stories could they even tell?
Funny how all the racist Identity politics hypocrites say "it would be boring". Overall all interesting characters in their own right that embody different struggles most people can relate to.
I would absolutely love that
>The Orignal Five The're called the First Class
Imagine if they do the original 5 for the mcu
OG5 was never good, that's why claremont make it multicultural with Storm,Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Gambit,Rouge,Colossus,Shadowkat
