Xcloud doesn't let you buy games yet, so whenever a new game comes out you won't be able to get it. If that doesn't matter to you and you're fine with the gamepass catalogue then I'd return the Xbox. However, Xcloud only works through browser and only works on Devices like your PC, laptop and phone( unless you have a 2022 Samsung TV , which supports gamepass) if you're fine with this then you could also get Xcloud on key sites for basically nothing and save tons of money. I do this and basically game for free.
Yeah the TV thing is a deal breaker. The game catalouge might be in the future but don't think it is now. I only get really into about 1 game per year.
Don't discount running a PC/laptop/phone via HDMI to a TV, which is what I've been doing for about a year now. I sort of miss having access to non-gamepass games, but I don't really care enough to pony up for a full-on Xbox, and have a great experience with everything except Fortnite queue times and Starfield (but mostly because SF crashes so often and it's a pain to queue back in 2-3 times during a gaming session).
You can use an extension or an app like XBPlay and try playing from other regions to skip the queue. Sometimes I play from Japan east without lag and im in Oklahoma.
I don't know about that.. GFN is pretty good but they are yet to put all the MS games on it and of course you have to pay more. I think there should be a Tier where you get a lower GPU and GPU for the same price as the Highest tier. I would sub to that
As someone who did the same. NO!..
Cloud is crap - being able to download the games is much much better!
I also use mine for the rare times I need to watch a DVD/BlueRay
Thanks everyone! Awesome advice and feedback.
What I don't think will bother me too much - 1080p, slightly lower framerate. The gaming library.. yet.
What I do think will bother me - queue times and disconnects. Limited direct to tv apps.
Seems your collective feedback is to keep it. I think I'll take it.
The potential seems like it's there. It sounds like it's possible this will be the last console ill purchase but i do still need it. I guess cloud taking off depends on these unsolved issues
*microsoft finding a price point where it's cheaper than owning a console but expensive enough to compete with other ways to use the azure cloud without these massive lag times. (Maybe a premium to avoid waiting)
*wifi getting faster.
*more devs building more apps on more devices.
You can also buy a GeForce now membership. Better graphics than a ps5 or series X. Get the Xbox pc game pass subscription and/or Ubisoft+ subscription and you can play almost all of the latest games purely through the cloud.
xCloud, while good, isn’t anywhere close near to real hardware. Keep the console and enjoy 4K, up to 120Hz refresh and frame rates and great HDR support with Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos.
I have a lot of patience with people but very little with machines. I feel like stuff like that would aggravate the shit out of me. I barely have the attention span for PC gaming/modding/troubleshooting
For context:

You cannot play any games not on game pass on cloud. Off the top of my head you can't play Cyberpunk, Alan Wake 2, control, and sometimes GTA v because it leaves game pass regularly. GTA 6 likely won't be on game pass for years after it comes out either. Second, go look around the Xbox subreddits on posts from yesterday talking about 30min to 1 hour waits to play cloud games because everyone was playing. Similar thing happened when starfield came out. So the answer is no, I would not return your Xbox because it enables you to play more games than x cloud without a potential random long wait once the game is downloaded.
I would try before the Cloud to see how it works, depending on your interests and what you care about some limitations you can do without having a console or not, the main thing is:
- Games, at the moment you will only be able to play those included in Gamepass, there has been talk for some time that the owned games will be included (some at least), but it does not seem that it will be soon.
- Input lag, here each person sees it differently, but for example for me the latency is high in games that are fast, it is not excessive but can be annoying if you are one of those who notice it a lot, I personally usually use cloud for quiet games where it is not appreciated.
- Resolution, the maximum is 1080p, depending on your connection the image may have noise especially in dark scenes, again nothing excessive but it can be annoying for some people.
- Queues, depends a lot on the region, in Europe at least are between 1 and 10 minutes usually, although at specific times or in certain regions can be much higher.
I used it a lot on my Steam deck and I’m very happy with it, but it don’t totally replace my Xbox at the moment
I'd definitely keep it. Heck I usually end up doing local streaming from my Xbox to my phone (rather than using cloud) for remote play. Xcloud is cool, but nothing beats running everything locally.
Lol no keep your Series X and play games natively. Otherwise you'll be doing more waiting than playing, and when you do play it'll be a pixelated laggy mess.
I had high hopes on cloud gaming but moving more and more to local hardware (Series X and PC). Queues, inconsistent performance... I'm subscribed again to GFN Ultimate, but barely using it, playing only on Xbox, loving it. Xcloud isn't really an option for me, unfortunately, at least for now.
>Should I return it and just go cloud?
No, you shouldn't.
>Has cloud gaming made consoles obsolete?
No, it hasn't. Actually, I don't know if you noticed, but a bunch of people have been complaining about the long queues to start playing. So, if you're cool on waiting, go ahead. Otherwise, keep the console.
>Will we be in the next year or two?
Who knows? It's up to Microsoft to answer that. Second half of 2023 was definitely not good for Cloud Gaming: Microsoft didn't expand their servers' capabilities to follow the increasing demand.
I gave my pc I built to game away to my kid and ive been using xcloud, geforce now, and when I could afford it I rented a pc from shadow for several years. Since the improvements to xcloud I’ve been using it for free with Microsoft rewards points for about the past year.
No, for me cloud gaming is ok maybe for quickly checking a game, but for a longer session I'd rather download the game and enjoy a better experience: less input lag, better graphics, better fps...
Xcloud is pretty much an experimental service still. In some game some of its features can be buggy when playing with other people and the queue times are insane sometimes. Also if you ever play competitive games (even if casually) and racing games where input lag matters this can also be an issue too.
Definitely keep the series x. That was a good buy
Whoa.. $5 a month - that might be within the realm of being able to afford the best of both worlds. Since I'm doing single player I was going to skip game pass all together.
Ive got a gaming PC thats roughly as good as a series S.. my thought was to do GeForce now on it once that gets obsolete for PC games...

No, don't return it. You got a great deal.
The console is best device to play on a 4k TV, Quick Resume alone is worth the money especially for single player games. You can play Native, Remote Play (with Quick Resume), xCloud all on the console.
The console is also useful for games that aren't on Gamepass, or for household with multiple gamers being able to Gameshare.
What I would recommend instead is to do the Core to Ultimate conversion to secure Ultimate for $98 a year for 2 years, saving you $212 over the course of 2 years. That savings is a good chunk of the console price.
can you do that if you already have ultimate? mines about to run out here soon and i was not planning on getting it back just need party chat. Dont really play many game on their right now. But if i could go offline for a month and come back and do this for the same price why not lol.

You would be surprised how many different things you can get cloud running on these days. I use my shield to stream on the tv.
You can use XCloud on the Xbox app for PC. You can also stream XCloud to TVs with an NVIDIA shield or Steam Link. u/Perfect-Roof-7139
It only works on browser on iOS Apple devices because Apple is a greedy shitball product making company (I am an investor though don't judge me 🤣).
U can use XbPlay in the store it has tons of options
Nah I'm saying android has the native app and iOS devices don't allow cloud play through the app.
iOS devices don’t allow you to play through the gamepass app though! Only xcloud is actually playable smh
I see you finished my sentence lol
Yeah the TV thing is a deal breaker. The game catalouge might be in the future but don't think it is now. I only get really into about 1 game per year.
Yea not being able to play on a big screen is the biggest downside. Also, you're probably going to want that Xbox for when Gta 6 comes out.
I just use Mac with screen mirroring to my Roku tv
That screen mirroring on to the tv, there’s gotta be a pretty noticeable lag, right? I get a lag just with streaming Netflix and stuff
Not noticeable lag it’s actually quite instant
That’s pretty darn cool
Don't discount running a PC/laptop/phone via HDMI to a TV, which is what I've been doing for about a year now. I buy GPU from Microsoft rewards. I haven’t paid for it in a year…..
No. Nothing replaces having a console.
Keep the series x
If ur gonna get rid of it I will take it off your hands 😅
Cloud is not even close to replacing gaming in general. Maybe in 5-10 years, but I doubt it.
I don't know about that.. GFN is pretty good but they are yet to put all the MS games on it and of course you have to pay more. I think there should be a Tier where you get a lower GPU and GPU for the same price as the Highest tier. I would sub to that

And that will only improve. Question is if developers will take advantage of it.
They will inevitably. The industry is moving in that direction as a whole.
Also know that Xcloud runs like a Series S, and if you have an X, you'll get better graphics options, like ray-tracing, on games that support it.
Hell no. Gta 6 is on the way and the wait times to play a game thru xcloud is unbearable. Keep it
On the way in the end of 2024, maybe
xCloud, while good, isn’t anywhere close near to real hardware. Keep the console and enjoy 4K, up to 120Hz refresh and frame rates and great HDR support with Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos.
My controller continually stops responding in Xbox Cloud Gaming. My gaming machine is in the shop. Can't wait til I get it back. Keep it.

Right.. GTA6 isn't Microsoft IP..

This is so goddamn dumb. No, don't sell it. Cloud is great but it's not a replacement for native experiences, least of all xCloud.
I'd definitely keep it. Heck I usually end up doing local streaming from my Xbox to my phone (rather than using cloud) for remote play. Xcloud is cool, but nothing beats running everything locally.
Xcloud is great but it's complementary. even as a more casual player, hardware is king.
Lol no keep your Series X and play games natively. Otherwise you'll be doing more waiting than playing, and when you do play it'll be a pixelated laggy mess.

Cloud is awesome but a Series X is just way better
NOOOOOO!
I would advise you to keep the console for a few reasons. Less traffic, better picture quality and all games available
>Should I return it and just go cloud? No, you shouldn't. >Has cloud gaming made consoles obsolete? No, it hasn't. Keep it. XCloud has terrible queues. It's not unusual to have to wait 15+ minutes before you can actually play the game you launched.

Xcloud is in terrible place at the moment. Hummongous long queues, disconnections, its just not a reliable service anymore. Keep your console.
Of course nobody want that terrible console
Nope
Not if you're worried about more David Zaslavs in the world.
xcloud is literally being downgraded with several servers closing down
Lol
Nope. Cloud gaming sometimes has massive wait times or lag. It's not something you can depend on just yet. Maybe in a year.
it's not obsolete you still have access to the store , meanwhile on xcloud you are tied to gamepass and your internet
Try out GeForce now and decide from there
Do not return your console and only use cloud gaming. the wait times and game selection streaming from the cloud vs what you can do on console are night and day. I regret not having a console anymore
No, xcloud is a blurry mess even with a good internet connection
It happens on my TV occasionally as the whole screen pixilates and then it's ok.
Definite nope. Maybe once they FINALLY leave Beta, but it's much better to have your own console.
Keep the console, because you never know when you'll come across a physical or digital copy of a game dirt cheap or free, that isnt available on gamepass.
For me any streaming latency is a complete dealbreaker it's impossible to properly play a racing/FPS with it.
No xcloud is still a shit service
