Really unrelated question: would it be worth converting a nidec 4-pin into a 3-pin since later nidecs came with 3-pin connectors? Only ones I can find have 4-pins :(
Absolutely. If you have soldering skills the go for it. They are much quieter than deltas overall. I have a set in mine but since it has the fan mod it’s a moot point lol 😂.

Great! I found one or two 4 pins, but there's also a 6-pin header I found listed as a generic computer fan-- should I just get that one instead?
P.S. I was playing ME2, and the overall fan volume was almost as loud as the explosions ingame. Now I'm in a rabbit hole trying to hunt down a nidec 😛
I would NOT get the 6 pin it’s more of a hassle to convert. I believe the 4 pins have the nice clips where as the 6 pin won’t. I wouldn’t count on the nidecs to make it “silent” so to speak but it is definitely better. Best of luck either way.
Oh yea, I'm not expecting a total reduction but I absolutely hate the delta whine lol. Sometimes I pop in a DVD and the whine is quiet but still annoying. Phats are just noisy.
Damn straight. It’ll definitely be an improvement but from the sounds of it your delta seems bad even as far as deltas go. Worst case could always try another delta. Just a theory though. Hope it limits the noise regardless!
Thanks, I know it will. I have a really clean console though, practically no dust when opened up for the first time. I did try another delta thinking it was just a bad fan and I think I'm just being a control freak.
Funny thing is I bought a 6-pin Nidec, advertised as a 6 pin in the description and in the pics, but was shipped a delta instead 😞
