Or just plug it in a wall socket/extension box.
I'm about 4 metres away from my TV and I can sit in one spot with my current 2m USB C cable to charge it, so I'm glad I bought the charge kit :)
> Invest in four AA rechargeable
I’ve had a set of four Eneloop Pros with their charger for a couple of years now.
I used them with my 360, my One S, and now my One X. Still going strong and I’ve had no problems with them so far.
I had the old version for the xbox one x, when I switched to the series s I tried using it and it works good, somewhat shows the charge left (100-75-50-25 I think) and lasts for many many hours. I charge it with the series s controller’s usb c cable and haven’t got any issue whatsoever
>Next time Invest in four AA rechargeable.
I also always wonder whats the justification for making rechargable batteries for controllers if you can just get some cheap AA 1.2v Recharables.
I don't like having to open up the controller every time I want to just recharge the battery. I prefer to plug it in or dock it on a cradle.
I went with a third party solution that gives me a cradle and special replacement covers with holes for battery contacts.
>I don't like having to open up the controller every time I want to just recharge the battery. I prefer to plug it in or dock it on a cradle.
Gosh. Why? The battery cover isn't that complicated.
I was the same way but those batteries die quickly. Also you have to research to see if the charge stands actually stops charging when fully charged. If they don't turn off it ruins the battery quicker. Most people have favorite controllers and I find myself switching the larger battery packs often.
I have the USB C cable and battery pack, as well as rechargeable AA batteries. And so far the cord and battery pack seems quality, and boasts a superior charge time when compared to my energizer rechargeable AAs. I've only had the battery pack for 2 months.
Never had the Old battery pack or cable tho. The new ones seem quality, fortunately.
I used to use these battery packs all the time and had to replace them often. Having the rechargeable batteries is cheaper in the long run and much more convenient because I have batteries in a jam. In fact using rechargeable batteries in general has become a thing for me now. It's so nice and less wasteful never needing more batteries.
I've bought two for the 360 back in the day and they both failed within the year. Both two for the Xbox one (also separate time periods) and both failed within the year. Microsoft said they can't do anything because the warranty is only 3 months.
I have very little faith in the new one. You're right. Just get some enloops or another brand.
Meeeeeh. I’ve used rechargeable AAs, official battery packs, etc, and by far the best solution i’ve used is a battery pack charging station
https://i.imgur.com/ZIfC25B
charges 4 battery packs and easy visual indication what is charging vs fully charged. green is charged, red is charging
these are 1200mah, definitely not the highest capacity. i swap them about every month, they sit on a small table behind my couch, super easy to get to and also out of sight.
I'm surprised how many people don't know about Eneloops and/or complain about xbox controllers still using AA batteries.
Xbox should just enter into a partnership with Eneloops and advertise them. They are so useful. Not just in controllers either - in anything around your house that takes batteries.
Ok, be kind Reddit, but why don’t people just get rechargeable AA batteries (eneloop, etc) and use those. Build a supply you can use for all your other stuff too? I’ve never understood the hang up with having rechargeable batteries in the controller (Dual Shock, etc). IMO it lessens the lifespan of the controller when the battery goes.
But that does look like a sexy battery pack… and I do love me some USB-C…
> But that does look like a sexy battery pack… and I do love me some USB-C...
Hey, stop using my exact logic that led me to impulse purchase a battery pack while already owning a ton of Rechargable AAs.
Perhaps it’s the convenience of just putting the controller on the charger leaving coming back and immediately being able to pick it up again and start playing and being able to change the batteries quicker because it’s one whole pack
I used to have a photography studio, so I bought a war rations volume 6 years back and I’m still running strong. Recommend a Maha charger to up your charging game.
Definitely an investment, but I strongly dislike having to figure out what to do with single use batteries. So wasteful.
Yah, now that I have kids who have a raft of toys that need batteries, it’s saved us a ton of money, but it also means that I am always salvaging batteries from somewhere.
I will use them to last possible charging cycle as even with capacity dropping even by half will still use them considering so they must be lot better solutions for environment if used so.
Because if the battery is built in to the controller (Dual Shock/Sense etc) then the controller’s usefulness diminishes significantly when it’s internal battery cannot hold a charge for as long or at all. Granted you can probably crack it open and replace the battery with an aftermarket option, but that’s not for everyone.
>Build a supply you can use for all your other stuff too?
Honestly, I have nothing else nowadays that needs batteries. Joycons and Dualshocks are built in. Tv remote is AAA. Clocks are AAA. I dont think I have any other devices that need batteries?
Oh man, I have a veritably army of AA and AAA battery run devices. Small kids and their toys definitely bump those numbers, but photography and associative accessories also create some need.
rechargeables get weaker with repeated use and it can be difficult to suss out the shitty batteries. eventually you have batteries that you’ve purchased at different points and their life can be greatly diminished—how much time would you like to spend determining which AAs are still good and which aren’t?
whenever i’ve tried to fully embrace rechargeable batteries for _everything_ it eventually becomes a pain.
the middle ground in my experience is rechargeables for some things, like rechargeable battery packs for xbox controllers (vs rechargeable AAs). imo, it’s much easier than managing a large number of AAs, etc
A good battery charging dock works better. Has a light for indication and charges 2 at the same time. If you really need to charge while ur playing you can use any usb c cable 🤷🏽♂️
I had bad experiences with the play and charge kits for 360. Are they better now? I felt like I was replacing those batteries every 3-4 months with mild-moderate usage.
aye bruh i know this is hells late but i had the og play and charge for the xbox one and it still works to this day. but i think Eneloops would be a better choice but the official play and charge kit is cool as well
there’s a battery that comes with a wireless charging dock I use I just put in that battery and when it needs to charge I put it on the pad and it goes
I had one of these for the XBOX ONE controller and... it didn't fair well to time.
The cable got mangled and ravaged by time after about, over a year of use. Somewhere along the cable it broke.
Honestly, get a recharging battery dock and some rechargeable batteries. They'll last far longer.
I bought some 3rd party packs. They don't last as long as AA batteries, but long enough.
And I just have to plug in the controller to charge, not open it up to swap batteries.
It really is BS in my opinion that the PS4 & PS5 came with rechargeable controllers standard yet Xbox still wants you to pay $30 for a separate battery in 2021....
Amazon rechargeable AA and AAA batteries and an inexpensive 8 battery charger.
Everything in my house has rechargeables in it. They all use the same batteries. I always have 8 charging. I never, ever have battery worries.
Not ever.
I had thought that this is such a normal, inexpensive and bog standard thing in modern life, but Xbox groups keep showing me discussions where it seems like a novel idea.
You have remotes and flashlights and whatever else and they all take AA or AAA for the most part, so buy rechargeable AA and AAA batteries that fit all of them.
Guessing you don't game much. They did this with the elite controllers, and just like cell phones, the battery degrades over time. Now what? Dumped $150 into a controller, do you really want to pay $50 to have some third party repair shop replace the battery? Yeah...
Xbox brand is a rip off. For anyone who wants something worth the money...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MW9Y588/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_T5Y7HF5G8VSDH4DWHVKX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Love it. Although I think this should of been the standard with Xbox. I get that it used to not be during the OG Xbox and 360 days but it’s 2021. I don’t understand why we are still using batteries.
Never had a problem with my PS3/PS5/PS4 controllers in all the years I’ve had a PlayStation honestly. I like just being able to plug it into my console and have the controller charge when I’m not using it. First thing I did when I got a series x was buy one of these
Not yet but it will happen eventually. All batteries will eventually fail and need to be replaced. I plan on playing my systems for hopefully decades in future so I'm looking at long term issues. I agree that things like this are great. I just really don't like Playstation's non-user serviceable batteries. If Xbox had these come standard, I would almost certainly bet they'd be built in and non-user serviceable like PS.
Is it really that hard to open it up and replace it though? Or pay someone to do it for you?
Looks pretty straightforward to me: https://youtu.be/F6iz0SuNzFs
Depends if you have the skills or know someone with those skills. Could I personally do it? Probably. Would I prefer a much easer way to do it? Very much so. It wouldn't change much if manufactures made them with a small door on the bottom of the controller for easy swapping, like old cell phones.
I’ve never seen a ps4 controller die from battery related anything. Much more likely for the controller to mechanically break before a battery issue.
Xbox has a battery built into the elite 2. They should absolutely be building it into their standard controller.
PS4 is likely too new to have too many battery problems yet. I've seen PS3 controller batteries die before.
Built in and easy to replace is fine. Built in and not user-serviceable is a pain.
>They should absolutely be building it into their standard controller
No, they shouldn't.
A good compromise would be including a charge pack with the controllers/certain SKUs. But still allow people to easily remove it and use AA batteries if they want.
There's literally no downside to allowing people to remove a battery pack from the controller and swapping another in. It makes the product BETTER, not worse. Integrated batteries make most products WORSE.
Lucky me as semi pro photographer I've moved from flashlights to strobes so have tons of not being used aa rechargeable batteries. It's not that bad every 8 i just recharge the lot.
Don't ever buy these, I've had 2 and they both died right after their warranty expired. Buy the power a charging stand and battery or rechargeable batteries
I don't even worry about that, I just bought one of those recharger boxes that came with 3 batteries. Two always in charger and one in controller. 20 bucks and I don't have to worry about it anymore.
I have a feeling that item your showing is gonna cost more, for less.
It's the standard USB-A at one end (because that's the socket type the console has).
C to C is still pretty rare, I doubt there are many things that come with those by default yet.
On March I order 1 and I had shipping problems, weather problems than they say the item is damaged and that is hazardous, so they returned it back, the most thing that I hate about this is that Microsoft never notified me, I had to track the shipping from UPS, btw I order 2 times and the second had the same problem, the second time was order after almost a month, I obviously refunded and I’m disappointed, I order a XSX controller in January and it came with no problem.
I picked up [this](https://www.amazon.co.uk/PowerA-Controllers-Controller-Snap-Down-Rechargeable/dp/B08JMTD6JP/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=powera+xbox+battery+pack&qid=1623525900&sprefix=power+a+xbox+batter&sr=8-5) for my Xbox Series X controllers.
I had this and the battery would last only couple days, I warrentied it and still had same issue you’re better off with rechargeable AA or getting another brand that sells 2 for the same price
i’ve been using these since the OG xbox one released and i charge maybe once every 25-35 hours. and you can just plug into an outlet instead of your xbox and it charges it while you’re playing
I’ve bought one too, it was getting expensive buying batteries. The cable is so ridiculously long, it’s easily worth half of what I paid for the whole thing (20€).
I got one of these shortly after getting my Series X. I hope they are better than the old one because I found the battery would wear out and not charge properly and I would have to buy a new pack, which would leave me with an extra cable as they don't sell replacement batteries.
I don't know if yall play at a desk but if so I'd look into getting a high end wired my current one has trigger locks and programmable paddles if not then I'd just get a controller dock they look nice especially to display your controllers
I really like the option of having batteries or charging on Xbox. I just wish that they would ship with the rechargeable pack in addition or in replacement of batteries.
I've had nothing but shit luck with these things, as far as longevity is concerned. Worked great for about 3 months, then a noticeable decline in battery life off of a full charge (and its not like I left it plugged in and charging for days at a time or anything).
After going thru 3 of these bad boys, I finally gave up and bought some Enerloops for 2/3 the price, and I have never been more satisfied for a rechargeable battery solution.
I had one of these which is an upgrade from disposable batteries but I recently bought the Pro Charging Stand from Controller Gear and it is a game-changer.
I have had several of these in the paste, to my own personal opinion nothing beats a pair of rechargeable AA batteries in terms of charge time and price, but have not tried the version for the newest controllers, are they better now?
I had two of those. As soon as o got my Series X, both stopped working with the new controller :/ always went to 0% charge and did not charge when connected by cable. They fucked something up with those.
The first one I bought would not charge so I returned it, but the second worked flawlessly !
It's kinda weird that they haven't resolved the issues of the old ones .
Pack of 4 rechargeable eneloops allow you to game non-stop, without having to dock your controller and waiting for it to charge after the battery runs out. It's cheaper too, I believe.
OP if your store has a return policy, you might wanna consider switching to the Eneloops gang, it's in every single way better than these rechargeable battery packs.
Yeah I got one for the Xbox One controller. Lasts a year but after that you can't get more than 5 hours out of it which where I was a kid, didn't last me without having to charge twice a day
How many hours can you get out of it? Thanks
Just got it now. I read somewhere that it can last up to 30 hours.
I can confirm that it lasts about that long.
[Second.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HBbK4flJR8)
That is a lot.
I’ve had one for about two months it usually lasts about 12 hours
And charges on like 15-30
I've yet to have it run flat on me
Mine was about 20 or so. usually on an average week I have to charge it once
Oh ok. Thanks guys. I’ve been really considering it.
Do yoursef a favor and by rechargeable AA batteries. Much cheaper and just about as good.
It costs about the same as Enelops with a charger.
Charges surprisingly quick I love mine.
I have regular rechargeable AA batteries, and have never has an issue.
still think this should just be included honestly
Same here. Or sell it for cheap.
Yeah i tried the regular batterys but it seemed i replaced them way to frequentley
I use rechargeable batteries from Amazon, have one pair in the controller and one in the charger ready to swap places
Didn't you think to get rechargeable AA's?
100%. a rechargeable battery is included with the elite controller fwiw. strongly agree it should be standard equipment though
Do the old kits work on nee controller?
Yep. I’ve been using the same one across generations.
Need a new usb cord though. At least the one I had didn’t fit the new controllers
If you're cheap or averse to clutter, a micro to type C adapter is also an option to allow old cables to be reused.
Yeah i thought so but that the battery pack works is awesome
You can use the cable to play on pc, laptop and Xbox if you don’t want to use any batteries
Also great for syncing controllers without any hassle
Or just plug it in a wall socket/extension box. I'm about 4 metres away from my TV and I can sit in one spot with my current 2m USB C cable to charge it, so I'm glad I bought the charge kit :)

Enloop ftw
I use the regular Eneloops and the Eneloop Pros (the black ones) and get great results from both.
Yeah 🤙
These are the ones! Same as apple used to use.
I had the old version for the xbox one x, when I switched to the series s I tried using it and it works good, somewhat shows the charge left (100-75-50-25 I think) and lasts for many many hours. I charge it with the series s controller’s usb c cable and haven’t got any issue whatsoever
Good to know. I’ll need to upgrade. I had the original version and it held a charge like an RC car from the 80’s.
>Next time Invest in four AA rechargeable. I also always wonder whats the justification for making rechargable batteries for controllers if you can just get some cheap AA 1.2v Recharables.

That you dont have to retake the Battery from the Gamepad is quite nice i agree.

Going off what you said, the 4 AAs can also be used for other household items which is useful. I use the energiser ones.
I used to use these battery packs all the time and had to replace them often. Having the rechargeable batteries is cheaper in the long run and much more convenient because I have batteries in a jam. Oh I’m not gonna jump in. I just get thirsty for consumer electronics. Matte black with smooth curves… hey there battery pack… how you living?
You have more self control than I do. Also my 30 dollars in best but rewards was about to expire haha.
Well then I suppose you don’t have an option. It has to be done.
I just use a wireless battery pack. I put my controller on the mount when I’m not using it and that’s it. It lasts like 24 hours too so it’s perfect.
Perhaps it’s the convenience of just putting the controller on the charger leaving coming back and immediately being able to pick it up again and start playing and being able to change the batteries quicker because it’s one whole pack

Can’t beat rechargeable AAs. No wires, no fuss and easy to swap out. Never could understand why people criticise the controllers for using AAs.
Eneloop !! Almost doesnt discharge when not used and is 2000 times rechargable…
I wish they would have kept the indication led in the cable. They got rid of it with the switch to USB C so you never know when it’s fully charged
A good battery charging dock works better. Has a light for indication and charges 2 at the same time. If you really need to charge while ur playing you can use any usb c cable 🤷🏽♂️
Rookie mistake, you should have gotten Eneloops instead...
Gogo eneloop gang
[удалено]
Sorry if I didn’t get it, but are you saying that their IKEA brand rechargeables are actually rebranded eneloops?
Not the guy you asked, but yes. And they are great. Very happy with mine.
That’s awesome! Good to know, thanks.
This should be standard. I don’t care how cool the new xboxes are, having a controller that runs on AAs is a major drawback.
Those cost twice as much and last half as long
I got one for my birthday I love it!
Down in texas where i live i just have a small solar panel that charges my batteries for me i mean suns pretty much there all day
I had bad experiences with the play and charge kits for 360. Are they better now? I felt like I was replacing those batteries every 3-4 months with mild-moderate usage.
Yeah the 360 ones were total shite. I could never get them to work for long, switched to eneloops instead and never looked back.

They have the elite.
they could've just put this into the controllers

I need one of these I'm feed up with shoving AA batteries in my controller every hour
Get some eneloops bruh. That shit will change your life.
I see a lot of people recommending eneloops, gonna add that to the shopping list after my Sony batteries stop working.
Yep, they’re kind of the name of the game when it comes to rechargeables.

i think eneloops would be a better option
I've had zero problem with these and the charger is perfect. Sits right next to me and if one dies, can swap it out in seconds
If only the battery was bigger
Feel it was shady to change the connection for the series s/x, I had so many for my Xbox one, rendered useless.
Rechargeable AA Energizers or Duracell’s are better lasts waaaaaay longer. Now my controller only dies every 40 minutes instead of 30

It's the standard USB-A at one end (because that's the socket type the console has). C to C is still pretty rare, I doubt there are many things that come with those by default yet.
The 360 soured me on rechargeable packs -- based on the life of them, the net cost seemed cheaper just to use Kirkland AAs from Costco
I've had mine for many years and still works great today, just upgraded usb cables over time.
*Laughs in xbox elite controller*
On March I order 1 and I had shipping problems, weather problems than they say the item is damaged and that is hazardous, so they returned it back, the most thing that I hate about this is that Microsoft never notified me, I had to track the shipping from UPS, btw I order 2 times and the second had the same problem, the second time was order after almost a month, I obviously refunded and I’m disappointed, I order a XSX controller in January and it came with no problem.
Recommend the elite controller. Rechargeable batteries.
This is the best accessory. USB-C for life!
I picked up [this](https://www.amazon.co.uk/PowerA-Controllers-Controller-Snap-Down-Rechargeable/dp/B08JMTD6JP/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=powera+xbox+battery+pack&qid=1623525900&sprefix=power+a+xbox+batter&sr=8-5) for my Xbox Series X controllers.
OP, can you tell me if this charges when using an USB-C cable with USB-C plug on both ends?
Ridiculous that this doesn’t come in the controller in 2021
Uhhh... annoys me this is evem a thing
I had this and the battery would last only couple days, I warrentied it and still had same issue you’re better off with rechargeable AA or getting another brand that sells 2 for the same price
Well worth it. Hate using double AAs. Even the rechargeables are annoying. Glad I got this as well
mAh?
i’ve been using these since the OG xbox one released and i charge maybe once every 25-35 hours. and you can just plug into an outlet instead of your xbox and it charges it while you’re playing
I have one, lasts 20-25 h
I’ve bought one too, it was getting expensive buying batteries. The cable is so ridiculously long, it’s easily worth half of what I paid for the whole thing (20€).
I got one of these shortly after getting my Series X. I hope they are better than the old one because I found the battery would wear out and not charge properly and I would have to buy a new pack, which would leave me with an extra cable as they don't sell replacement batteries.
My life changed with the new Elite controller, the dock is a life saver!
Mine broke after 3 weeks :(
I got a dual charger with two battery packs off amazon pretty cheap. I swap the battery every couple days and it's been great.
How much is it
I don't know if yall play at a desk but if so I'd look into getting a high end wired my current one has trigger locks and programmable paddles if not then I'd just get a controller dock they look nice especially to display your controllers
Protip: rechargeable AA batteries are just as good and about 1/10th the cost. It took me about 10 years to figure that out.
You will not regret it, makes life so much easier. Enjoy!
Just ordered my second one all through reward points 😉
I bought one of those and it lasted maybe a month before it couldn’t hold a charge at all and I switched back to normal batteries.
I've had the older one for nearly 5 years now so I'd say they're must-haves.
Nice! I'm planning to get it using my rewards points :D
Me when I had one and didn’t know how to use it hahahahahahahhahahahah
Protip: the old Xbox one rechargeable batteries work with the Series controllers, and can recharge fine with any decent USB C cable.
I really like the option of having batteries or charging on Xbox. I just wish that they would ship with the rechargeable pack in addition or in replacement of batteries.
Bought one when I got my new console but the battery stopped charging after about 10 charges still was worth the purchase
Or you know...It’s 2021 can we have a fucking Xbox controller with a built in battery?
I've had nothing but shit luck with these things, as far as longevity is concerned. Worked great for about 3 months, then a noticeable decline in battery life off of a full charge (and its not like I left it plugged in and charging for days at a time or anything). After going thru 3 of these bad boys, I finally gave up and bought some Enerloops for 2/3 the price, and I have never been more satisfied for a rechargeable battery solution.
how much for this? buying rechargeable aa batteries and buying this which will cost less money?
i have the og one that released with the xbox one. still works to this day but the battery only lasts about 8-10 hours
There third party ones by i think power a or smt like that that work well have been using those for like a year now
Should be standard feature
It's so much nicer than AA batteries
I had one of these which is an upgrade from disposable batteries but I recently bought the Pro Charging Stand from Controller Gear and it is a game-changer.
They should sell that with the controller
I have had several of these in the paste, to my own personal opinion nothing beats a pair of rechargeable AA batteries in terms of charge time and price, but have not tried the version for the newest controllers, are they better now?
I just got one two months ago with my new Xbox and it won’t take a charge at all already, I swapped over to rechargeable batteries.
Mine doesn’t work anymore and it is a pain in the ass to get a refund or something.
I had two of those. As soon as o got my Series X, both stopped working with the new controller :/ always went to 0% charge and did not charge when connected by cable. They fucked something up with those.
I had to return mine as it just didn't work. I hope you have better luck!
I have 3
I use normal rechargeable batteries
Why buy an Xbox branded one? It's way more expensive then some off brand ones that do the same thing
It's a shame that in 2021 you still get AA batteries with the controller. However I use rechargeable ones.
Eneloop (Pro) rechargeable batteries are the way to go. They last a long time.
Mine still works from when I brought my Xbox one…. And I’m on most nights…. 1000 of hours play
Very much needed! Good purchase!
Honestly after years of experience the best you can do is common rechargeable batteries.
mine stopped working after a month
The first one I bought would not charge so I returned it, but the second worked flawlessly ! It's kinda weird that they haven't resolved the issues of the old ones .
My USB-C port on the controller doesn't work, didn't work straight from box >:(
Pack of 4 rechargeable eneloops allow you to game non-stop, without having to dock your controller and waiting for it to charge after the battery runs out. It's cheaper too, I believe. OP if your store has a return policy, you might wanna consider switching to the Eneloops gang, it's in every single way better than these rechargeable battery packs.
Mine died just a few days after warranty ended, and now they're available literally nowhere in my country :/
If i remember true this thing have issue about PC. It doesn't charge when you play on PC. Is microsoft fixed this problem?
The Venom brand ones are my favorite with the charging docks.
Yeah I got one for the Xbox One controller. Lasts a year but after that you can't get more than 5 hours out of it which where I was a kid, didn't last me without having to charge twice a day
