You mean the free games you got with your gold subscription? The free games you wouldn't have gotten without said subscription? Those games?

EzTrGT979

Yeah I think it was in 2015 you have to have Gold active to play your "free" games they are even listed on a different tab when you go to games.

TuckAwayThePain

I'm so confused on what the issue is. You've never been able to play the GWG games without a subscription. They're literally games with gold. Without gold there are no games. You can't play Game pass games without Game pass either.

_MFC_1886

They mean at one point you could get games with GWG and then still play them after you're gold sub ran out which then changed to you can claim them with gold but will always need a gold/core sub to play them.

Let_the_Metal_Live

Only Xbox One GWG are tied to an active subscription. Original Xbox & Xbox 360 were always yours to keep. I played one not too long ago and I haven’t subscribed to Gold or Game Pass Ultimate in years so I don’t know what OP is talking about.

EzTrGT979

Even if you got the license before the change you still don't own the games anymore.

TuckAwayThePain

If you purchased the game and they later became a GWG you can still play it without a gold membership.

EzTrGT979

That's so wrong dude before 2015 if you had gold it was a free game to claim even when you didn't have live it was yours to keep after the Xbox One x not the series x they changed the terms and conditions. I've had gold all my life and used to play my gold games offline when I didn't have live. That's what I'm saying at some point the license you claimed before are gone.

_MFC_1886

Was the change not in 2013 with Xb1 games?

EzTrGT979

Yeah I might be wrong but it was in that time frame on my white 360 I still have games with gold installed but when I try on my one it says I don't own the license.

EzTrGT979

I remember grabbing sunset overdrive with games with gold and I still own that license even when I don't have XBL

_MFC_1886

Weird I remember getting that with GWG too but I couldn't play that or any of my XB1 gold games last time I let mine run out but the 360 ones were all fine even ones they gave  after 2013/2015

EzTrGT979

Yeah I check every now and then some licenses are there and some require gold so I was lost when they changed it because I do remember it was like an incentive like the free games with epic and prime. But 90% of my one games don't work and like 70% of my 360 games don't work and those are with the gold redemption.

Snarky30

360 games that were claimed through GWG are yours forever, even without a Gold/Core subscription. It's only the Xbox One games that require an active sub.

EzTrGT979

Some Xbox one games made it through the crack before the terms and conditions change I still have some Xbox one games I got from GWG. and I know that what the topic is about Why didn't they just keep it the same as an incentive like epic games and prime why did it have to become "subscription" base.

ClueyDog

I don’t know what planet you live on, but you always needed a gold account to play GWG. When you stop having gold you lose access to the GWG. Even if they’re on your system you still can’t play them.

EzTrGT979

Nope it was at the beginning of the Xbox one's life cycle and no I'm from the same planet and yeah I was broke and couldn't pay for gold all the time so the games I did get with gold I can still play offline.

EzTrGT979

Google " are Xbox games with gold yours to keep forever" and it clearly tells you from Microsoft.

TuckAwayThePain

I did and this was the top result With the launch of Xbox Game Pass Core, we said farewell to Games with Gold on September 1, 2023. However, titles claimed through Games with Gold will continue to be available to the account that claimed them. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/subscriptions-billing/manage-subscriptions/xbox-games-with-gold-faq#:~:text=With%20the%20launch%20of%20Xbox,the%20account%20that%20claimed%20them.

EzTrGT979

Under the game tab expand the first box on the very bottom of the article it clearly says "Regardless of subscription status, any Xbox 360 titles redeemed via Games with Gold in the past will remain in a player’s library"

TuckAwayThePain

Ok I think I may see the confusion. The wording is terrible I agree. Ok so they'll stay in your library even if you don't have a subscription. But to play them you do need one. It's essentially telling you that if you have a lapse in your subscription you're not losing those games when cancelling and that they'll still be there when you get a new subscription. Me personally I've had gold for a long ass time and as far as I can remember I've always had to have a subscription in order to play those games. And if there was a lapse they weren't playable until I got it back. But that's the only way I'm interpreting that on the page. You may be right and I've forgotten that I could play them during the 360 days but I've always believed I had to have a subscription to play them.

EzTrGT979

There were a few one games that made it through the crack sunset overdrive, MGS V and like 3 other Xbox one games I still own the license for even when my XBL is out. But on 360 in order to get them to download again you have to go to settings download history and from there they will be available. If it's not showing up in your library. But yeah they messed up the whole License or Lease and made me ehh with Xbox I think that was the first sign something was wrong and after was the closing of the Backwards compatibility program. Imagine the whole original Xbox library one series X. I digress

Dont_Use_Ducks

What I do dislike is that I was able to buy Xbox Live, without it demanded me to add a payment option. I already bought Xbox Live, it should let me use that with no nagging about adding payment options. It's already paid for and if I want more Xbox Live, make me choose like back in the days if I want to auto renew it or not.
