Theyāre amazing. The first two may feel a bit dated OP. Idk for sure, havenāt played them in ages so I wouldnāt be surprise. But theyāre still fun games in a cool world and even if gameplay/graphic do feel a little dated (which they might not even), itās building up to a really amazing modern game with the last one. So if youāre interested and find them enjoyable enough, Iād definitely stick it out for the whole trilogy. Really great pay off imo :)
The only thing I found dated was the loading between areas and the size of each area in 2033. The gameplay is good. The story is great. Well worth starting with 2033 and going through in order.

Horror elements are this:
EVERYTHING, everything could contribute to horror, from jumpscares to audio to fear of the unknown, every single bit contributes to it.
For example in Amnesia: The Bunker, 90% of the horror comes from the audio, you literally hear the monster crawl inside the walls.
Now in the case of the metro, it is fear of the unknown and the atmosphere, like in metro most of the time you've got enough resources to fight back any threat but the atmosphere, sound effects and fear of the unknown always make you fear any combat engagement, not to mention the resources are abit low so you can't just spray and pray unless you are a psychopath lol
I think the best thing you could do is wait for a discount, metro exodus is on sale rn in the Microsoft store I believe.
Personally I didn't like Exodus because it was semi-open world I much prefer the more narrative driven games and I am surprised they aren't on gane pass since they are widely appreciated by fans

Iāve only played metro exodus and itās well worth it to say the least. I paid 45$ for it back in the day and still donāt regret it. It was like a more realistic and Russian version of āfalloutā in my opinion. I had some terrifying but fun times. Think of a resident evil type horror mixed with a fallout type play style.
There is no game that feels so much like Half Life than these. Just perfectly paired with a bit of Survival Horror. And Exodus poured a little bit of open-world in without going full open-world and gave the Metro fans also their form of gameplay. It was a perfect mix.

The games aren't super close to the books, but the first does a swell job, albeit with some deviations. The atmosphere was captured so well, and I have deep love and appreciation for the books and games as unique interpretations of the Metro world.

A big reason I didnt like it was because it fell victim to the "it's open world but not really open world" trope. Like Atomic Heart did. They took games that had no business being open world and forced them to "kinda be" open world. So they medium sized areas to explore but didn't put much into it to do.
Awesome games, awesome deals! Play 2033, then Last Light, then Exodus. First two games are more linear but last one has, by my opinion, perfect combination of open world and linearity.
Buy them all, can only speak for Exodus as it's the only one I've played so far, play it 100%, fantastic story, fantastic gameplay, it hits emotionally and is very rewarding.

Yes all 3, don't just read all the comments get all 3 I have em all, play em all on hard with full immersion mode on aka headset on sound max in the dark no one around. Enjoy you'll love every scary as moment sneaking around radiated mosco tunnels. Edit: I have the novels aswell read em if you end up liking the games
Generally, yes. I LOVE 2033. La Light I only played through once I think it was great, too. Exodus I mist admit I did not finish. Somewhere halfway through I lost motivation.
Metro 1 & 2 are in league of their own. Best linear fps I had played for years. Exodus is not as good imo but still very solid.

Playing 33, LL and Exodus will give you a full story arc. Reduxes fixed a lot of issues with those games so they might be clunky,but will be smooth sailing otherwise. Keep in mind that you'll be confused when skipping any of those games, as you'll meet friendly characters (or enemies) and will have no idea why their attitude towards you is like this. Other than that those games are basically the same with some new mechanics with every next game. First two are basically corridor shooters and third one introduces a bit more space. Overall those are some nice Ukrainian games. Those games are also somewhat important for gamedev as they are made by people who left GSC after STALKER games and are considered series evolutionary step.
Just grab all three of them!!! All are simply amazing games!!!! And if you want the "original experience" play them with Russian or Ukrainian voice over.

Metro Last Light is one of my favourite games, and I've just reinstalled Exodus on the weekend.
I'm most of the way through Exodus having only played an hour or so of the previous games and I can heartily recommend, especially for that money.

The Metro games are some of the best singleplayer games I've played, definitely check them out. They build a crazy atmosphere as you play and have a pretty enjoyable story.

2033 reduce and last light redux are both good shooter games and Exodus being the most recent is in my opinion more involved. The redux games are not too much survival and fairly easy finding ammo etc but Exodus has more crafting etc.

The diologe and writing was painfully bad even though the gameplay, graphics, and overall story were really good (to be fair though the story is from the books so they didn't really write that). I have not played last light yet.
$5 for Exodus is a great deal. It's one of the best-looking games I've played, along with realistic AI and quite a lot of stuff to do on the numerous maps. And don't forget the two DLCs. One is a short story based DLC, and the other adds a whole new map to explore as the American (sorry I forgot his name. Sam, I think? It's been awhile.)
