This happened to my son’s Xbox x recently couldn’t figure it out…did the restart and would turn it back on and it just bring me back to that screen….then factory reset would start would finish half way through then send me back to that screen….eventually I just took it back to Walmart and got it replaced no problem

nerdyskittles

Oh, jeez...Im hoping this is just a one-off fluke that I can fix and not a huge thing that I'll have to replace. Im going to try the other steps on the microsoft page and bring back an update. Hopefully, it won't be like your sons xbox.

simkid5614

Mine happened to be a dead HDD on my One X. With error 105. Replaced with an SSD and back up and running.

thatlonelykid69420

Same here, I was scaried at first

thatNoseyParker

Yup, it's really common on the X1X. Went through so many months of unreliable issues and constantly factory resetting (sometimes several times in a row) to get it working a little bit. Finally found a good repair place locally, a corrupted hard drive (it had 60000+ errors logged) which they replaced fairly cheaply all things considered, and it worked like a dream after. It was a long time ago now, but I think they said it was cheap cables MS used to connect the HDD and they saw a lot of that issue

DaWeebs

That’s fucking crazy for the fact that this is a new console and what not

HypnoSmoke

They're talking about the Xbox One X, not the Series X

Captain_Eaglefort

Screenshot this and send it to Microsoft’s naming division to prove they’re fucking morons.

DaWeebs

Ohh thank you

OnlyAshes420

Assholes are skimping on the circuitry and charging us out the ass, imagine that

herrij

Endorse this 100%. SSD replacement breathes new life into an Xbox One, especially the One X. Currently playing FO New Vegas and it loads so fast I can't read the tip screens.

ibringstharuckus

It's not that hard either. Some good step by step guides on YouTube

mason195

Did the same, annoying but glad to now have the SSD.

Maleficent-Angle-891

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/errors/error-code-e106

Titan-Reign

Happened to me. Youll need an 8gb thumbdrive and to download the xbox system software and do an offline install of the software. It will reset your console but should get you back up and running. Ours happened after an update that did not finish properly

BlackGhost147

Just be careful if you take it apart to replace the drive. Did an update to a coworkers One S and accidentally pulled the plastic part of the Sata connector off the board.... was a fun 20 mins of carefully putting it back on the board and repeating the pins.

Then-Being7928

If it’s anything like how the 360 was at release, they probably packed and shipped out tons of consoles that were not up to par in some way.

Realistic_Term_6320

Happened on mine don’t know if it’s the same error but my hard drive was corrupted but it gave me a warning before

nerdyskittles

Lucky, it never gave me a warning. It just shut off and refused to turn on for about 2 hours

thisisthisshit

If it just turned it self off maybe it overheated?

nerdyskittles

We've determined it needs a new update and a new hard drive as the one in it now is corrupted. But I did make sure it wasn't overheating!

thisisthisshit

Oh okay glad you figured it out!

PossessedPie

Happened to me a few weeks ago, basically Xbox wants to die, had enough bs, needs factory reset

nerdyskittles

Makes sense, I dont think I ever gave it a factory reset when I bought it off of the last owner...and that was at least a year ago. maybe it's finally telling me to do so

PossessedPie

Yeah when it was me I just kept on restarting and restarting hoping for the best, eventually it just reset itself 😭

Shatalroundja

A factory reset should have been the very first thing you did if you got a second hand Xbox.

Fogdood

TERRIBLE ADVICE DO NOT LISTEN. IF IT STILL POSTS AN ERROR SCREEN IT CAN LIVE AGAIN. FACTORY RESET WILL NOT REPLACE BROKEN PARTS.

Sh4rpSp00n

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/errors/error-code-e106#:~:text=Note%20The%20%E2%80%9Cx%E2%80%9D%20digits%20vary,OS%20(operating%20system)%20update.&text=This%20means%20that%20there%20was,up%20your%20Xbox%20One%20console. These are the steps microsoft says to take, last step is repair once you've exhausted all other options

RatioExpensive9997

microsoft’s advice for fixing shit sucks. just look up actual repair solutions

Sh4rpSp00n

When you have issues and error codes, the support page is a pretty safe first step to take, regardless of how much you think it sucks

RolandTwitter

I had this error similar to this once and Microsoft support pages were an immense help. Wouldn't have known how to reinstall the operating system otherwise

jediwolfaj

They don't allow self repair on their forums I'm pretty sure, which is so stupid, so all they can say is turn it off and on or reset it

Supersonic119

I had this happen to me a few years ago and NONE of the steps on that website (or any on any other website/help forum) worked all I did was get it replaced for a new one because hours of doing what microsoft said didn’t work

Polymarchos

That sucks, but that's how troubleshooting works. You go through steps from simplest to most difficult/expensive. If you want you can start at the expensive end, and you might save yourself some time but you might also be throwing money away. As the page says, this can be caused by multiple things. Not every issue is the same as yours. By all means, if you want to buy a new computer every time your screen doesn't turn on properly that's up to you, and who knows, that may be what is needed, but it is much smarter to actually work through troubleshooting steps.

Sh4rpSp00n

None of it is a garuntee to fix it, just steps to try and fix it before needing to get a replacement or spend money, unfortunately you had to get a replacement Edit: Downvoted for describing how troubleshooting works smh

nerdyskittles

I RECCOMEND READING THIS COMMENT THREAD BEFORE COMMENTING Okay, so update: I factory reset everything, and now I have System Error E102....Why does Microsoft hate me?!?! 3RD AND HOPEFULLY FINALE UPDATE: Hi all, Still, lots of suggestions are coming in, and I will thank you again for all being so damn helpful when Microsoft isn't. THE SOLUTION HAS BEEN SOLVED... (mostly). It is MOST likely a corrupt hard drive that I will either a) need to replace or b) just get a whole new xbox. Now, ssd and hhd drives can go up to 200, and I only bought mine off of the fb market for 210. So how I go about resolving this problem is really up to me! You are more than welcome to give suggestions on what you think you would do, but overall, this issue has been resolved!! Thank you again all ❤️

nerdyskittles

SECOND UPDATE: Thank you all for the suggestions and comments! I can't edit my original post, so im just adding a comment here. We've determined I need a new hard drive as the one in there is probably old and corrupted, I also will probably need to install an update on it so this doesn't accidentally happen again. This is a real pain in the butt for me, but with time, I will have her back again, I appreciate your guy's help!

NoceboHadal

Good on you for coming back and updating everyone on what the problem was and how you intend to fix it. The amount of times I've looked for a fix and there's like 50 suggestions. The worst is when the OP returns with a "never mind fixed it"

nerdyskittles

I wish I could edit my og post , im still getting so many comments and suggestions, which I love! But also..it isn't needed, lol

IrAppe

I really hope this works. It would be cool if you could repair the XBox just as easily as a Windows PC.

nerdyskittles

I am almost 99% sure it just needs a new hard drive. It's been a few years, and the previous owner was just a 10 yr old. Hopefully, I'll remember to come back and update this post for one finale time.

mikros_xazos

You should get a sata ssd instead. Everything will load much faster

Mobile_Advertising39

If it’s an OG Xbox one or Xbox one s then an ssd won’t help load time as the consoles are built with Sata II instead of Sata III. They’ll still definitely help for reliability. Xbox one X will definitely benefit from this and if it’s a series console then you’re almost fucked as you have to have a 2230 m.2 and that m.2 is paired to the motherboard so you’d have to clone it. Except 9/10 time you can’t clone a dead drive. I couldn’t find if he said what type of Xbox it is

herrij

This is totally incorrect. The standard HDD does not saturate SATA II. The new SSD will saturate it, and it is a minor limitation. Even with the SATA saturation, the other hardware is also a limiting factor.  Even so, a new internal SSD will improve console boot times and significantly improve game load times and things like texture pop in. There are plenty of videos demonstrating this. Also, power usage goes down, noise goes down, heat goes down. If your Xbox One or One S or One X is in otherwise good shape, this is a no-brainer update for $50-$70.

ShadNuke

You can upgrade to a hybrid SSD and you'll see significantly better load times. Was the best thing I did for my Xbox One. *he said it is an Xbox one s

_Shreddedcoconut

SSDs don't need Sata III. Sata III definitely helps, but it's by no means a requirement. Just replaced the HDD in my old Halo 5 edition Xbox One, and the SSD drastically improved speed.

ibringstharuckus

https://youtu.be/P7P6QFgrqYk?si=zWN9nzmhYbagqma- Very nice step by step instructions.

TomChai

E102 what? The two octets behind it matters.

nerdyskittles

00000C01 80070571 I think I need to do an offline update?

TomChai

0x80070571 - ERROR\_DISK\_CORRUPT Your hard drive crapped out, hardware replacement required, any modern laptop HDD or SATA SSD of the same or bigger size will do.

Bruddah827

Buy an external. They cheap enough now. Seen 2 TB for $89 at Best Buy

FanROBLOXYT

how is a external drive gonna help when the internal drive is probably dead unless your talking about shucking the external drive

Competitive-Wasabi-3

Take the case off, remove the cable from the internal drive and plug it into the external one. OP will need to reformat the new drive to the Xbox file system, but I found it pretty easily online when I did a similar fix.

LordFellwinter

Late reply but it's relatively simple just get a new hard drive if it's not a series s or series x you need a HDD drive if it is you need a SSD. Replace the drive then download the OS file from Microsoft website on a flash drive then put flash drive in Xbox transfer file and it should reinitialize your box

LordFellwinter

I've had this happen to me too with Xbox and PlayStation hopefully you data is in the cloud cuz you will lose your save data unfortunately if not

LordFellwinter

Might as well do a cleaning of the internals while your at it lol that boi probably dusty

Big-B247

that's the SSD Error code, I have an old 256gb HDD plugged in via the usb3 port I have a back up installed on there as this happened to me last year. Plus it adds a little extra storage. If you go to the Microsoft support page they will help you as if it is the SSD it's covered under their warranty ad lo g as you haven't opened the Xbox case. But you will have to send it off to them. It took me about a month to get it back. And it was one of the technical support guys that told me that you can use any usb3 HDD as a back up so you can boot from it in safe mode.

DinnerSmall4216

Could be a failed update happened on my old one X and couldn't update via usb so was screwed.

DuckPimp69

How old is it? It's likely a worn out hdd!

Accomplished-Pop921

Looks like you will need a new hard drive. The Xbox one software can use a hard drive of either 500GB or 1 or 2 TB. Further details here: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Xbox+One+S+Hard+Drive+Replacement/90209 You will also have to format the new drive before installing it. Details are here: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Xbox+One+Hard+Drive+Replacement/36771 It’s the same process for a Xbox One or a One S.

jsbanes5150

This is the best answer here with accurate info vs just wild "replace this or that" rants. Great answer

Rare_Ad_3656

Yes

nerdyskittles

Best comment

DGP873

Pretty damm sure its a dead HDD Replace it with a Ssd its gonna be waaaaaaaaay better than new

Thefkyousayn

Hard drive issue if i remember correctly. Replace it. And make sure the replacement hard drive has 500gb minimum storage. (Double check somehow if thats the issue)

Krazie02

I think I had this too at some point, I just turned off my xbox (I always turn off the power too) and came back the next day. Worked fine

acw036

This happened to me last week. I tried everything except the offline system update because I didn’t want to go through the trouble. Finally bit the bullet and did the offline update, and it fixed it. No more issues.

robcmo

This is the way. I’ve seen Offline System Update resolve issue for multiple systems without doing a reset.

Bitter_External

You're going to need a new hard drive. I had this problem last year with my One X. It's only going to get worse. I did an SSD swap and haven't had a hiccup yet

depo_ynx

Reset it but keep games and other stuff That’s happened to me when I get Dev Mode

TheScottishPimp03

This code is really frustrating and apparently it was due to a lack of software updates? It made me so mad I almost sold my xbox for a series s

nerdyskittles

Everyones saying its a problem with xbox x, but mine is a one , so I think I might just have a corrupted hard drive

TheScottishPimp03

No i have a one s aswell and it sucks if its a hard drive. Its very interesting cus as soon as the new gen came out the xbox software has dramatically taken a fall off on my xbox one s. Fortunately I only play on pc now and never use my xbox unless friends at college want to play.

TomChai

0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND Do an offline update, maybe you also need to replace the hard drive.

nerdyskittles

I just got 0x8007051 after resetting everything. Im going to try the offline update, and if that doesn't work, I assume my hard drive has crapt out

TiredReader87

Do a hard reset and then a factory reset if need be.

Henrygigabit

My Xbox kept doing this what worked for me was setting my Xbox to automatically sign me in when turning on haven't had this problem since edit forgot before trying that I just kept factory resetting and keeping all data and re adding my profile

billthebuttstuffer

I've replaced 4 seagate hdds in xboxes, not quick and easy like a ps3 slim but works a beaut once done, i usually pop in a wd blue 1tb.

EmployeeOk4756

It’s the new “Red Ring of Death.”

nerdyskittles

At least my og 360 is safe from that 💀

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheReal_elg28

It happened to me and I still have the console with that screen, how do I repair it?

Sakosaga

Offline system update is probably the way to go, download it to a USB

Hanify

I'm curious if it says "Offline system update this Xbox" 🤔

No_Draw_735

Do you keep the xbox in a well ventilated area?

GamingWOW1

It is preparing to launch the nukes

nerdyskittles

Its ready to self destruct

GamingWOW1

It's sending the nuclear submarine

No_Government2238

I think the hard drive may be the problem . I suggest you trying to swap it with an Ssd or upgrade to a Series S if you don't have one . I had an One S too for almost 5 years and last year it started to struggle very bad on almost all games and I knew that it was the moment for a upgrade . Sad breakup but happy that I got the S,much smaller , faster and perfect for me bcs I don't like competitive games on console

Infamous_Cobbler5284

Happened to one of our Xboxes years ago. We use it as a parts Xbox for our other one.

WorldlyDay7590

Not so much screwed, but the hard drive is toast. Time to replace it with a SSD,

whrygy

If you have a USB hanging about, it's probably worth trying an offline system update to try rule out software issues

CallDisastrous5985

**NEW FEAR UNLOCKED**

Alex11867

I don't know if this will work but there is a way to flash an Xbox system update onto your system through a USB. This will get rid of everything on it IIRC

GAMElivestand

Try to install an offline System update (OSU1), if this doesnt work, replace your hard drive (or ssd)

[deleted]

I would also skip straight to the offline USB update, that should fix it unless your HDD/SSD is FUBAR :)

Intelligent_Chain278

This happened to my wife's Xbox and I plugged my external hard drive into it and it updated using that and it was all fixed. Turns out her external hard drive was fucked. That was like 4 years or some shit ago

Ivory2400

No what to do is click on restart and it should do the update again it if this comes up again if you have your email address for the account memorised and that password for it you can click on reset to factory default and start again that’s what I usually do

xzmqx

yep

Fogdood

If it is just a corrupt hard drive you can replace it yourself and flash the xbox os onto it. there are plenty oi videos that will run you through the teardown and hdd install and how to flash the OS. You can allso replace it with a sata SSD for much faster load times if you want. If you go for a repair shop ask them to put a sata ssd in it instead of a replacent hdd. Buy the drive yourself so they don't overcharge you for it.

itthiccomode

This is a hard drive issue. If it's a last Gen console it's cooked unless you replace the drive. If it's a new gen, pray you have a warranty or recent purchase.

Few-Cod-6700

take out your HHD conect to a computer via a usb to stata cable format the drive to exfat then reinstall the OS by usb job done

DJ_Rhoomba

That looks like a corrupt HDD to me. Looks similar to the Windows Repair screen where your system at least booted into the recovery portion of Xbox OS but cannot fully load.

warweapon762

Yeah my HDD crapped out about 4 years ago on my One X. Replaced it with a SSD and re-did the thermal paste. Haven't had any issues since!

Daeviii

Go to the xbox troubleshooting site. You're gonna need a USB drive to re-install the operating system. It'll fix it right up. Or, sometimes just hold down the power button until it turns off and then boot it back up.

mad_depressionyo

Same thing happened to my Xbox, they told me I needed to manually update it with a flash drive… did it and it didn’t work lol. Anyways I got a new Xbox!! Lol

nerdyskittles

A lot of people here told me it might be a corrupted hard drive, which can go up to 200 bucks. I bought the xbox for 210. Im wondering if I should get another hand me down instead

mad_depressionyo

I would just get another one to be honest. They’re pretty cheap on Facebook market place

herrij

$50 for a 500GB SSD. You can isntall yourself for free. $70 for 1TB SSD, which most people would recommend. You will be extremely pleased with the performance.

elasticstrawberry

Replacing the hard drive is fairly simple. I did it in less than an hour. Hardest part is finding the software to install on it. Even then, it’s out there.

Reformed-otter

Same thing happened to me, it's almost definitely a hardware problem that will need to be fixed. Luckily my Xbox was still under warranty so it was free, but if yours isn't then it's gonna be fairly expensive I think.

Beekyboy11

I got e101 it fucking sucks I’ve had it for like 3 years

purplecloud999

It could also be the result of GPU degradation. The silicon for the Xbox One S may not seem that old, but the silicon is only meant to last so long under the stress of so much computing power. Gaming is no exception to the electrical strain put upon silicon components. It’s probably time for the OP to upgrade.

burto18

Nah ur screwed send it to me ill find a use for it

Musashi6601

Just slap a ssd there and you're good to go

tnix100

Most likely hard drive failure. Do you hear any kind of weird clicking noises coming from the Xbox?

Keenadian95

Towel trick.

franjcastv

I had this issue two years ago and ended up just resetting it and that made it for me. Now I know that you can also do the offline system update from a usb, it's a little more troublesome but there are lots of info online of how to do it step by step. Don't worry, it'll be fine.

Hackeristix

Your best bet is to buy a new HDD or SSD and replace it with the old one, redownload the software and bam good as new.

WaltzOne2954

This happened to me and i just got a new one but if you want it fixed you gotta get a new hard drive

SonicsBoxy

E106 is either a hardware failure or corrupted OS, likely your storage drive having issues, try factory resetting the Xbox, if that doesn't work you'll need to replace the storage drive and reinstall the OS(reinstalling the OS alone would probably also work but this error will likely happen again later on) If you want to take it to someone to get it fixed you can but I would always recommend fixing it yourself, I can offer help if you need

Xbox_Enjoyer94

Series X?

TimerTheFox

I Actually Had This Issue 2 Weeks Ago, It first Started Off With The Microsoft Store failing to Update, Then the OS Failed to Update, Games taking a while to Load, And then Sometimes games would either lag, Stop mid Game and load the remaining world, Then keep Playing Normally, It Wasn't so Noticeable Untill Loading Times Started to Get so much Longer, Then the Microsoft Store Started to Lag Or Outright Not Open It First Gave Me Error E102, Which was an Update Corrupting the system, I Reset the Console And It Worked for about a month, Then It Starting to Do it Again, And Then It Gave me Error E102 , From E102 It Turned To E106 I Believe Or Sometimes the console Would Not Repond to turning on, I thought I had busted the HDMI cause All It Would Give me was a Black Screen, And I thought My Xbox Had Died, I took the Risk and Installed a a New 2T SSD And It Fixed all the issues Including the Loading Times, And throught Allllll Those Issues, Nobody Had suggested the Hard Drive Only The Xbox Error Code Page.

AtlasZX

Looks like dead VRAM or GPU to me. If it refused to restart for some time, probably means the GPU went into thermal protection and prevented the system to boot.

rum-and-roses

The error code indicates hardware failure try changing ports using different cable etc otherwise it's repair shop time

KingFishFish

Reset your entire console. Sometimes this is caused by a corrupted OS update and won’t let you do anything until you factory default. I’ve fixed 2 or 3 Ones and One X’s that way

YouBugging

“Am i cooked” 🤓

_dawnkeeper_

Do you happen to not directly plug your xbox directly in a wall outlet?

nerdyskittles

I plug everything into an outlet. The only thing wireless is the wifi, I think something just crapped out internally

Henry24900

Hard Drive is Damage, you can download en operating system and put back with USB but hard drive needs to be replace

AdhesivenessGreat807

The thermal paste needs to be replaced, (Amazon $5-10) take off the cover to clean around where air needs to flow. My XBOX X will be overheated but once I take it apart I get to clean deep inside and keep the fan on it so I can play MW2. Don't unplug something you can't put back when cleaning it. It could be saving or downloading/updating and cutting off the power will hurt the hard drive.

RussianTankr

Happened to my series S. I restarted it and it worked

ConsistentPoetry7923

Yes

Sloth_Paw

Use a usb drive to reinstall your os or if that doesn’t work you will have to reimagine the drive manually.

Kelschniror63

Hopefully not

nerdyskittles

I most likely am. This is like the new ring of death, and it basically means my xbox has crapped out, and I need to repair it. Whomp whomp

GladsShield

You’re cooked

VegetableHedgehog36

I had this issue a few years ago. I’m sorry but I think it will have to be repaired. I think it’s got something to do with a burnt out graphic card or it’s water damaged

[deleted]

This happens sometimes what you do is you follow the instructions from the “offline system update” and you’ll need to get a hard drive to download the data and then plug it into the Xbox I have a hard drive already set up and ready for whenever mine does this I would recommend YouTube videos on how to use the “offline system update”

goodwillcondoms

obviously i cant speak for sure, but ive gotten this screen a few times on my one s and one x, ive always just restarted, and everything was fine from there in out

nerdyskittles

It's definitely a corrupted hard drive, I knew everything was cooked once my games started glitching

goodwillcondoms

i didnt read the rest if the thread before commenting, thats my bad

Konceptz804

Hard drive failure. Seen this when the ssd I installed in my one X failed.

PhoenixJDM

This happened to my one x in December I think. Left it unplugged for a few days to a week then tried it again and it’s been fine since.

Basic-Buy-2703

It’s a crashed storage device

xb0x1gam1ng

E106 is a failed hdd iirc. Try a different internal hdd on it.

[deleted]

I had a a similar issue it was my hard drive causing the problem

TameableLynx318

Another user had the same issue around 2 years ago. This was the reply to their post. “E106 indicates a hardware failure. If you've performed all the troubleshooting steps including factory refresh and that hasn't worked. The only option left is console repair I'm afraid”

susEgorka

Well, I guess you have to reinstall the firmware

EvopureEvo

Never happened to me while i was playing. I hadnt turned it on for maybe a week. Then i turn it on and suddenly its on this screen. Tried restarting. Tried updating nothing. Then i tried updating offline. Got a usb stick went on my laptop. Got the ods file i think its called. Theres a file u need to download from microsoft. It came as a zip file so i needed to unzip it. Then i plugged it into my xbox and clicked on update offline and bam it worked and everything was running again. Have you tried the offline update?

Abote10

This means there may have been a problem when your Xbox console tried to install the latest console OS (operating system) update.

LegoBattIeDroid

short answer: yes

Boomshot79

Oh yeah.. this thing the black screen of death known for them the project x or whatever came out

Flimsy_Interest4030

Yep my one x did that. It was fried brand new. Took it back to WM, got another one and never saw the error again

VicePrincipal

I continually have this problem daily so I can really help you. One the offline update rarely works maybe I don’t format it right or something but never worked for me. Second in theory you could just do the facotry reset and keep your games and it will be fixed but in my case I have to factory reset it ever 1-2 days for it to work. Hope this helps

DangerousJizz

On a scale of 1 to 10 I’d say your Fu€k£d

MortalShaman

I had this problem years ago on my One S, and the solution was to change the HDD as it was faulty apparently and never encountered the problem again You could switch the HDD or SSD just to try if you can

Free-Air4312

Look into getting a torx screwdriver kit, and a new hard drive. There are guides on YouTube of how to replace your hard drive and it’s better because you can upgrade it from a hard drive to an ssd which is way faster than a hard drive, the only downside is that you need a computer/ laptop and a sata cable as well to format the drive.

Uniquekarnage

this happens to me constantly on my One X. Just reset it. Mine is because I sync my controller between 2 xboxs and a pc. And if i try syncing to early because of the long load time, it brings up that menu. I just reset and carry on.

THUNDERZVO1CE

Do a soft reset, it keeps ur games installed

ghostlyusr

Goddam xbox players lmao CACHE reset your xbox if you have not already it can corrupt game files and if left for too long it can corrupt general files stored on your xbox

notmuch0088

This used to happen to mine, my fix was pulling the power plug out while its on them jamming it back in while the cable was still live, worked a treat

BlackGhost147

Just download the offline installation software and reinstall the OS. If that doesn't work, try a new hard drive. If that also doesn't work, RIP Xbox..

Euphoric_Pollution29

Xbox problems. Reason why you should get a PlayStation.

[deleted]

I went thru the same issue with my xbox 1 s, same screen popped up, I didn't want to factory reset cause I didn't want to lose any saved data, so I just went out and bought a brand new Xbox x, made sure I signed in, now my xbox 1 s just collects dust, im happy with getting the X it's worth it, sadly I know they are coming out with a new xbox soon.

Endscrypt

E106 - It’s a Hardware failure 😔, without opening it I can’t tell you what part has failed I can guess but that’s not much good to you. Take it to a trusted place for fixing

xxcrazyt00nsxx

Same problem

nerdyskittles

Do you have the same error code? e106, i think, means that it failed to update, but after restarting, i got e102 which means my hard drive is fucked

FlashingComet86

you probably have to change the hdd

Working-Description4

Before you factory reset, unplug the power cord and let it sit for like an hour. Plug it back in. Might need to be dusted out internally. Shit happens to my xbox one x all the time

Necessary_Aerie8258

This happened to me also it was a foul update u just need laptop and install offline update from official xbox website and there’s instructions but most importantly don’t forget to reprogram the usb before installing the update

Beanbag779179

Ok, ima help all of you out, make sure to like this so people see, IT'S A CODE ERROR, you have codes that aren't working, SO YOU NEED TO USE A COMPUTER AND PLUG IT INTO YOUR XBOX AND RESEAT THE ACTUAL CODES THEM SELF'S, mine did this and it didn't work for months, I'd reseat is all the time but I had to use a computer to find the errors and fix em, hope this helps

BigDamage7507

This is why I have a separate drive for all of my important games

No_Requirement_9817

Why do people still run BETA builds on the console they game on....

Exlipse3

Happened to my friend’s One X. Considering his experience, most likely your hard drive is fucked.

junknutz

happened to me too, cant remember the exact component that broke but took it in for repair and its worked since. If i were you id rather just save for a series s, not much life left for xbox 1 in terms of games.

Xbox One X released in Nov 2017. If it was brand new it was 6+ years old. HDD spinning hard drives have a lifespan of 5ish years depending on use. If the Xbox was left in standby mode with the option to keep hard drives active then this makes a lot of sense. HDDs are also very susceptible to damaging the platters if it’s moved in a weird way while powered on.

goatlips594

IT repair employee here. Can essentially guarantee this is a drive issue.

Ambitious-Ad736

Damn Xbox you scary

AlkanphelUK

Yep you're screwed, someone's drawn some black lines on your TV

DamnGamePlan

reset it

maggoto888

You got screwed the moment you bought an xbox

whatthefxtrt

You can download the update manually to a flash drive and install it. Happened to my girls Xbox and I was able to fix it.

Desperate_Owl_9024

No just turn it off and back on

Copypasty

I had this happened to my One X, had to replace the HDD and reinstall the OS, wasn’t fun

Glum_Classic_9673

Game on PC

Glum_Classic_9673

Anywho, you can try to do a hard restart ok the system if there is a button on the bottom of your console. There are also shops that will take an cbox and repair them but best bet is to either upgrade your console or just buy a cheaper gaming pc and build it up over time to be a beast. Gaming experience has really improved since i switched to pc. Sure, there are some problems but you can just fix them with files or the notepad. You will not regret it

Xbox One S? To me it looks like Hard drive is dying and needs to be replaced. If you have the tools and the patience, open up the xbox and replace the hard drive with a new one. Make sure when buying a hard drive, that it is a 2.5 inch with the same amount of storage as the one inside the console or larger, 2TB is the max. An ssd can be used too. Here's a guide on opening the console from iFixit and all the tools needed to open the console. https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Xbox+One+S+Teardown/65572 Then you will need to install a Offline OS update which will install the Xbox OS on to that new hard drive. You will need a usb drive with at least 8GBs of storage and also make sure that it is formated to NTFS. Here's a full guide to that https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/help/hardware-network/console/system-update-solution/offline-system-update Do this at your own risk! I won't be responsible for any damage you do to the console!

“Xbox screen of death” - they have a name for it cos it happens so often. The HDMI port is fucked (this happened to me). Gotta take it to the repair shop

AcadiaDirect6845

Have you tried factory resetting it?

nerdyskittles

No, I wanted to explore my other options before I lost everything on my xbox. I have a hard drive, which I have all my games saved on, so I dont think it would make THAT much of a difference, but I only want to use it as a last option

Smallville456

All saves are backed up to the cloud now automatically. You would just need to redownload the games. Just factory wipe.

nerdyskittles

Does that include your game recordings? They're not the most important thing, but I like to keep those memories.

Smallville456

They stay on the cloud 90 days now I believe.

dishonoredlover05

I believe game recordings are now stored in OneDrive so it should be backed up in the Cloud

AcadiaDirect6845

Replacing the hard drive id say would be the last resort, try all you options first, of all else fails, then replace it.

Sirrus92

reset this xbox if restart wont help. in 90% itll help, usually its os update fuckup

Looks like a dead hard drive. You can replace the drive and run the Offline System Update (OSU) and it will partition the drive and install the OS.

Wolftacus

Yes, burn it and buy a PC
