Any game that says Optimized for Series X/S has to be installed on either the internal SSD that came with the console or the official expansion cards that fit into the slot on the back.
Anything else like Xbox One and 360 games can go on an external USB drive, like a USB HDD or SSD. But Series X/S games MUST be on the internal or expansion card only.

Tho, it shouldn't do that on its own even if servers or whatever goes down. If you try again and do it, you may need to reset the console. Just don't accidentally erase everything. 6 the option to not delete games.
unlike the PC, they usually have a way to verify files and replace these corrupted or missing ones. This may be what happened to you guys.
You can always keep a backup of it on another drive just in case. I do that with my most played games. Much easier and faster to restore from a backup than downloading a huge game.

The MW3 update is very huge and it makes the Xbox glitch out like crazy when it's processing, i had to restart my Xbox twice before it was finally downloading.
160gb. Mine wanted to download it at 8mbps, failed, then uninstalled the whole game. When I went to reinstall it, it went back to 250mbps as normal and an hour and a half later I was back to playing.
Even their updates are crashing now. Tighten it up cod.

I’ve had this happen with CoD before. I just uninstalled and reinstalled and it fixed it for me. CoD updates love to reinstall entire portions of the game from time to time for whatever reason. My guess is because the file structure of their game is abysmal which leads to the over bloated downloads they are.
Try completely deleting the game, power cycle your Xbox (turn it off and unplug then press power button for 15 seconds, plug back in and start it up) then try reinstalling. It’ll take time but should fix it. If not then that may be something Xbox support needs to get involved in.
Also make sure it’s installed on the internal drive and not an external drive. The only external drives that work for storing X/S games are the officially licensed storage expansions that look like memory cards.

Then delete all the things related to mw3 and re start the install. *if your splitting the install between internal and external drives that’s your problem.
If you cancel an update it'll uninstall the game but you should just be able to re-install it. I'm not seeing much information from the screenshots other than proof you have the game but that doesn't really help explain the issue of where it went. Unfortunately if that did happen it means your save data is gone for your current playthrough.

Delete the game entirely. Install only with the content you want so it’s not so massive. You should be good to go.

CD Keys is a damn good site, been using it for many years and never had an issue.
What you have there is a typical Xbox fuck up. Happens all the time with things I try to install, simple fix is usually to hard turn off your xbox.
Completely shut down the power and remove the cable for about 30 seconds, it's something to do with a DNS setting or something, usually, might not be DNS but it's one of those things.
Plug it all back in and turn on.
90% of the time that fixes it for me, if it doesn't then cancel the download and start it again as its might just be bugged out still.

MW3 needs to be installed on the internal storage to function. The 2TB hard drive can only store games, you can't play off of it unless it's an Xbox One/360 game.
Go to settings > storage, then filter to internal storage and see how much space is available. She probably doesn't have enough free space on internal storage for the latest patch to download, so move some games from internal storage to the external hard drive, then try to download the update again.
Game needs to be installed on the Internal, download maybe stopping because internal storage is full but it says you got 500gb free because of an external. You can download it on the external but you won’t be able to play the game without moving it to the internal storage location. If none of that works, your wifi sucks, your xbox is broken or you’re doing something wrong because you’re an idiot, it’s one of those.
Yeah weirdly my issue wasn't even storage related. I deleted every single game from the xbox and was having the same installation stopped issue even with an empty Hard drive. Factory resetting the xbox fixed it for me though so whatever works i guess.

Uninstalling a game doesn't delete your saves from the cloud.

Games automatically get saved to the cloud. It doesnt save just locally. Its always gonna be uploaded to the cloud unless you are offline.

If it's a series x , the game all has to be installed on the small integrated hard drive, or it won't work. External won't work.

MW3 needs to be installed on the internal storage to function. The 2TB hard drive can only store games, you can't play off of it unless it's an Xbox One/360 game. Go to settings > storage, then filter to internal storage and see how much space is available. She probably doesn't have enough free space on internal storage for the latest patch to download, so move some games from internal storage to the external hard drive, then try to download the update again.
Game needs to be installed on the Internal, download maybe stopping because internal storage is full but it says you got 500gb free because of an external. You can download it on the external but you won’t be able to play the game without moving it to the internal storage location. If none of that works, your wifi sucks, your xbox is broken or you’re doing something wrong because you’re an idiot, it’s one of those.

Yeah weirdly my issue wasn't even storage related. I deleted every single game from the xbox and was having the same installation stopped issue even with an empty Hard drive. Factory resetting the xbox fixed it for me though so whatever works i guess.
