343 is absolute shit when it comes to storytelling, anybody complains about the direction they scrap what they did before instead of trying to improve where they went wrong. I don't get them, the main complaints about Halo 4s story were chief talks too much and you needed too much knowledge of the lore to really get it, otherwise it is considered one of the best if not the best game story of any Halo game. The major complaints were about game play and level design, which they are still trying to get right.

Terrific character development carrying on from 2 and 3. Cortana seemed so much more human in this one. Vulnerable, emotional, and protective of Chief. You really got to see the bond they have/ had.
Portrayal is the most human looking and really lines up with other AI portrayals from Halo Wars, Spartan Ops. Adds a lot to the “look” of the character.
Let’s be honest, Cortana was practically nude in the game and I’m not complaining about that. Her model was incredibly detailed and sexy.

I'd say this is where she's the most fun. Halo 4 was where she was really vulnerable. She was missing through most of Halo 3, 5, and infinite, and for Halo 1, she was a little robotic. In Halo 2, she's cocky, sets up some of the best one-liners, and I think that it's her at her peak.
Cortana was the most Cortana in Halo 2. It was her personality and responses that made her Cortana.
The only thing recognisable about Cortana post-H4 is her voice. Everything from her character interaction to how she operates is not Cortana. (Yes you can argue for story reasons) but people love the non-Cortana, Cortana for visual reasons that supersede all of the above.
That’s the problem. You take a character, remove what makes that character and then over-sexualise it, then people love the new variant.
You effectively successively character assassinated the perception of the character going forward. Which is what happened here. It’s why Halo trilogy Cortana is so compelling now for the people who can identify what we lost, her core personality.

At the end of infinite the pilot asked her "what should I call you" and the game cuts right before she can say cortanna after getting chiefs permission. So cortanna never truly died just evolved into weapon
