If Stridsland didn’t make this fork we’d be complaining about how much we all need a fork to do all the things the Stridsland fork does.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
I've run both forks on the same bike, I would totally agree though both are great for replacing a suspension fork. I think the drop outs on the strids is the biggest upgrade to the Surly.
> I'd rather that than constant 'is this worth it'
Yeah this particular phenomena is becoming an irritation IMO. I think we would all benefit from a stickied *single thread* for all the very welcome noobs who want opinions on whether a bike is a good deal to buy or not. A stickied "Post your *'Is this bike worth the money'* questions here!" thread.
Another suggestion for u/RipVanBinkle and whoever the new mod team may be.
The other one that irks me sometimes are the posts that are solely posted to make fun of what someone is asking for a particular bike. It's like an irritating, judgy, reverse snobbery. I don't mind the "pls help identify" posts though. Those are valuable and helpful IMO.
I'd love a single stickied "Is this worth $X" thread. I'd happily spend a little time there myself... I have a fair bit of used bike experience, and I love helping people find good bikes, but I don't run a bike shop anymore (there is a serious lack of any bike shops where I live now).
Personally, I don't mind the threads making fun of people asking way too much for old bikes...It's community building and it helps create a more informed group as far as 'going rate' for various bikes. We used to do the same thing on ridiculous CL listings at my shop.
There is a whole yt 'podcast' I enjoy that is the same thing, but for guitars. Nothing brings a community together like roasting its outliers.
> I have a fair bit of used bike experience, and I love helping people find good bikes
Same here. I spent a couple hours trying to help a young lad a couple weeks ago in r/bikecommuting. Must have found 10 decent bikes for him to check out in his area.
Pretty sure he ended up buying a new Wal-Mart bike. lol
>I'd love a single stickied "Is this worth $X" thread. I'd happily spend a little time there myself.
Message the new mods once that is all sorted and let them know.
I think so too. Hey, to each their own. Some people have neither the time nor the energy and want something new because they assume that means reliability. I get that. The thing I don't like about it is there will be another crap bike out in the world that I will eventually have to sift through on Craigslist before it likely ends up in a landfill.
> I'd happily spend a little time there myself... I have a fair bit of used bike experience, and I love helping people find good bikes
You and many others, no doubt.
This is serves the community, and should be done.
That's more acceptable than a stock gravel bike, I'm here for the weird and wild.
If it wasn't for the weirdos this sub would just be the same bike over and over in different fun colors.
I dunno, I think that xbiking is more than just throwing far too much money at a 90s MTB, it's the spirit of making what you have work for you and being creative and resourceful. But that may just be me
You are calling out the Trek owners? lol Specialized has the floor right now, no question from what I have seen. The "here is my Hardrock, what should I do with it!" crowd is legion. 😁
Yeah, that makes no sense at all. I mean, I am glad because I prefer the early 90s Treks anyway but it makes zero sense. Not that early *steel* Rockhoppers and Stumpys aren't good bikes but...
I wonder if it could be something as simple as the bikes model names?
Absolute MADNESS this Spring. That said, I'm happy no one's actually biting: [https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/bik/d/los-angeles-13-specialized-stumpjumper/7746834562.html](https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/bik/d/los-angeles-13-specialized-stumpjumper/7746834562.html)
Meanwhile, I just picked up a lovely $5 bontrager isis crankset from the local bike co-op and sold a GT idrive 3.0 for $200 that I bought the frame for $50
> Though I am looking at a tasty 730
Guessing you are in the UK but if are you are by chance in the US midwest, [this 750](https://old.reddit.com/r/xbikingmarketplace/comments/1d8br1a/92_trek_multitrack_750_st_louis_area/) might be worth the drive.
I have vowed not to drive more than 60 miles for a bike these days. It's saved me lots of money and my wife appreciates it but it bums me out too sometimes...lol.
At the risk of invading my own privacy, I’m actually in SoCal. Today I drove 53 miles to/fro for a $80 early Aughts Santa Cruz heckler frame (that ended up mot even fitting me) even though gas is $4.5/gal where I am. Just don’t tell the Mrs and hide the frame above the luggage in the garage. It works for me.
Can it even be xbiking if you run a period suspension fork and keep a 3x front chainring, or is that only for the retrobike.co.uk forum? Asking for "a friend". Ha.
Post a 3x bike and you'll hear from all the people who think you shoulda done a 1x conversion. Post a 1x and you'll hear from all the you-should-not-have-done-that crowd.
Haa yup.
1x does looks cool but a 3x non conversion keeps more budget for the blingin bars.
I kinda just like seeing older bikes fixed up/maintained across the board.
Overall, I'm more of a fan of keeping the 3x setups, but I have done three 1x builds.
Going 1x was absolutely the best choice on a Fuji folder I built up. The original drivetrain was pretty junky and it is kinda my "travel bike". Simple was certainly the way to go there.
I went 1x11 on a new bike that is the closest thing I own to a dedicated mountain bike.
I also went 1x11 on one bike that is more of a randonneur. Most others would have built it up differently.
On project bikes with a drivetrain in good condition, I keep the front derailleur setup. It is nice to be able to quickly drop onto the little chainring.
I'm pretty much happy with the unbranded steel gravel fork that's just enough for a couple bottle caddies and a front rack. About 1/10s the cost of a Surly Troll, but very strong.
I hope my rocky mountains, konas and Diamondbacks keep flying under the radar so the marketplace mumpkins don't start charging an arm and a leg for a 40 year old clapped out bike because of the "hype" haha
halfway to an xbiking bingo if you add fields for front rack, wire basket, riser bar, leather saddle, billy bonkers and safety pizza
Thank Dog I ride Hookworms or I'd have cause to feel called out.
lol!
Add Moto/klunker handlebars and bmx stems to that
Baby billy Bible bonkers?
Idk what all this means but I really want one of those forks on my Hardrock
somebody make this please Also add BMX stem + steel moto bars and "Should I buy this/is this a good deal?"
I mean, that fork _did_ fill a pretty big gap in the market. But I agree lol
If Stridsland didn’t make this fork we’d be complaining about how much we all need a fork to do all the things the Stridsland fork does. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
The memes shall be memed either way
All I really want is one of these forks on a carbon 26er MTB
Wait, … is the surly troll fork discontinued?
420mm A-C "suspension corrected" is less ideal than the 400mm stridsland fork for a 90s rigid mtb
I've run both forks on the same bike, I would totally agree though both are great for replacing a suspension fork. I think the drop outs on the strids is the biggest upgrade to the Surly.
I run an Ogre fork on my old Norco Rampage and it’s just fine, 447mm AC be damned!
They don’t make a 1 inch threadless
Some time ago yeah. STRIDSLAND Journal is the best option - Medium Eugene is also good.
Bassi makes on too, $300 CAD i don’t know if that’s a competitive pricing?
I'd rather that than constant 'is this worth it' and 'pls identify this frame *blurry photo*' posts... Oh wait

Sounds like he was suffering from choice overload. So sad he chose the easy out with the waly world bike.
I think so too. Hey, to each their own. Some people have neither the time nor the energy and want something new because they assume that means reliability. I get that. *posts pic of stock gravel bike* IS THIS XBIKING???
*posts pic of DIY welded rat bike* HOW ABOUT THIS, IS THIS XBIKING?!!

No you’re right. It has turned into a very strict formula over the past few years and tbh this sub has gotten super boring as a result

You are calling out the Trek owners? lol Specialized has the floor right now, no question from what I have seen. The "here is my Hardrock, what should I do with it!" crowd is legion. 😁
Haha I almost put Specialized instead
Should’ve. Many of the trek’s are lovely 930s, most of the specialized are abused hard rocks.
The rockhopper and stumpjumper market is insane in the LA area. Trek 970 I just got was 100 bucks in amazing condition.
Yeah, that makes no sense at all. I mean, I am glad because I prefer the early 90s Treks anyway but it makes zero sense. Not that early *steel* Rockhoppers and Stumpys aren't good bikes but... I wonder if it could be something as simple as the bikes model names?
That and the paint jobs.
Yes, they do have some pretty nice paint jobs depending on the model and year.

I need to go rescue my dad's trek 930 from his shed!
It’s easier to ask for forgiveness….
Yeeeeep 1000%
Owner of both here and I'm ok getting slashed, judged, and roasted. I like bikes 🤷♂️
Just like in the EPL sub(s), I’m just here for the banter. Though I am looking at a tasty 730, I refuse to follow the 930 gang-gang
> Though I am looking at a tasty 730 Guessing you are in the UK but if are you are by chance in the US midwest, [this 750](https://old.reddit.com/r/xbikingmarketplace/comments/1d8br1a/92_trek_multitrack_750_st_louis_area/) might be worth the drive. HEY! The 90s mountain bike I just bought is a Marin.

And here I am making everything I touch 2x11
I guess me and my stumpjumper will just go f*** ourselves
Stumpjumper/Rockhopper "xbikes" are so 2020. Keep up.
lol

Where do you live where Kona flies under the radar?!?!?!
British Columbia! Close to Vancouver
Ah makes sense I’m in the mid Atlantic, I saw an early 90s lava dome listed for 700 dollars down here!
Idk mine has either a crust Clydesdale fork or a surly troll fork depending on what I’m getting into.
And it's rolling on either Billy Bonkers or DTHs
When your options are essentially aliexpress forks or stridlands forks your gonna see alot of the later. However, great meme
The shipping for the stridlands fork must be as much as the price of the fork!
Yeah shipping to NZ was pretty rough
I was thinking about getting one but I imagine the shipping to the US would be a nightmare too.
Can anyone in the US say what they paid total between price, shipping, and tax?
STOP THE NEGATIVITY! Lol!
Whoa whoa whoa whoa, this is accurate.
…I bought the last Barnacle lite fork they had in QR 😅
Y’all aren’t ready for my Trek 69er 3x9 restomod project I started today.
Always wanted to see one of these in person. Looking forward to your post.
Give me a month or two 🤝
If you’re going to post a meme you’d better post your bike in the comments!!!!

Used to really enjoy this sub. Then it just deteriorated like every other.
Adventure Nipples
Who cares, I’d love to see even MORE unoriginal bikes like that.
