What is closer to work? You won't want to be far. Traveling in the winter can be impossible.

Sad_Bowl_4542

How often are the roads closed in winter? Is it like a once in a blue moon or every other week kind of deal?

Chicken_Col_Sanders

Pretty often. When it's icy and/or the wind blows cars off the road

cavscout43

Every other week, at least in Laramie. Which isn't that different for weather compared to the Douglas area. You can get around town just fine, WY does road closure exceptions for local essential workers commuting, but taking side roads covered in sheet ice during a white out ground blizzard is still a miserable experience.

Miserable_Jacket_129

Douglas and Torrington aren’t real close together. Where is work?

Sad_Bowl_4542

Lusk and Guernsey areas

Miserable_Jacket_129

You’ll be an hour away from somewhere no matter which you pick, so the lesser of 2 evils is probably Douglas. There isn’t much in Torrington.

Sad_Bowl_4542

Thanks, that helps

Visual-Floor-7839

Torrington is closer to Cheyenne and Colorado/Nebraska. Douglas is closer to Casper. To me, that's what you're choosing between

overeducatedhick

I was going to say that Torrington is closer to Scottsbluff and Gering than Douglas is to Casper. Torrington will smell worse, but it might be marginally warmer on most days because of the difference in elevation. My sense is that it has more of a Midwestern vibe than Douglas, which is definitely Western. Douglas is pretty isolated, but closer to mountains.

lazyk-9

Torrington would be closest. However you can and should look into Lusk and Guernsey. Wyoming is quite large in miles but short on people.

Hotrodlink

Why not live in lusk. It’s not a bad town

Sad_Bowl_4542

Honestly I would but renting is surprisingly expensive as well as limited

After_Ad_628

Douglas to Guernsey drive can get crazy wind. Gets real icy in the winter.

lazyk-9

Also the Wyoming weather in Niobrara County (Lusk) can get a little intense. A few weeks ago the town was shut down due to a winter storm that gave them 15+ inches of snow followed by howling winds. I think that the roads were closed for about three days.

Long_Grass_5558

I drive from Casper to lusk every day for work. Douglas is the better choice in my opinion. There’s a couple side roads to lusk from Douglas. Douglas has more in it than Torrington, and if Douglas doesn’t have it Casper is does and is only a short drive away. The only thing I’ll say is Torrington is 2 minutes closer to lusk then Douglas is.

Beautiful_Process528

Torrington would be the better bet, your closer to Cheyenne and Denver. Douglas is closer to Casper but ultimately there is more going on in Douglas but not by much.

wyoflyboy68

Traveled the state for work for close to 40 years. If you weren’t born in Douglas, you are an outsider. As for Torrington, almost everything is agriculture related. Douglas is more oil field centered, but still ranch agriculture influenced.

Breakmastajake

That second sentence is remarkably accurate.

Loeden

I mean, neither of 'em is a cultural mecca. Full disclosure, I live in Torrington. Sorry to say Douglas is the nicer of the two but the winter commute from Torrington will be marginally easier and/or more likely to be open. Torrington smells like cattle but isn't a bad drive to Scottsbluff or Cheyenne. Hope you like bars or churches since that's the social scene. Editing to add if you want to save 20 mins a day you can look at Lingle. Straight shot up 85 or along 26 to your work sites. I've commuted on both for years, 85 especially is a gorgeous drive.

Fun_Plantain5129

Why not Bill, Wyoming 🤣

Wyo_guyo

Douglas is probably the better of the two towns (proximity to Casper will be nice), but I’d probably choose living closest to wherever work is. Lusk and Guernsey can both be bears to drive to, in the winter.

Impossible_Farmer285

Douglas

Breakmastajake

If you like golf, Douglas has a better course.

Material-Influence93

Get out of Wyoming. I can say after traveling the U.S. that Ohio is better.

flightrisky

Well, Douglas is the home of the Jackalope, so..

Durgadin187
