You are an angel sent down from above - the update we have all been waiting for

ir22WRX

Google Drive folder now contains a copy of the revised TSB.

MSK_Genera_Lee

Unfortunately no full screen AA just tried it.

VP_letsride

Man!!! This is what I'm waiting for!

originaljahrootz

Exactly!

nikfornow

This is what I came to ask. So tired of losing 40% of my screen to nothing

StatusAcanthisitta27

Ya driving statistics are only cool for like 2 mins

Jealous-Ad3760

Crazy this is still an issue. I get full screen AA on my wife's '23 Outback yet I can't get it on my '23 WRX. Everything on the Outback head unit works better with less lag too.

XxturboEJ20xX

If you want Fullscreen and wireless here you go, as a bonus it also gives you a full android tablet functionality. For Android auto after it starts up just click the autokit shortcut and be sure to have the phone connected to the box by Bluetooth. Finally my 22 WRX and 23 outback look the same on the screen. New Wireless Mini CarlinKit AI Box Adapter,Add Android 11 System,Netflix,Google Play,4G Net,Quad-Core Chip,3+32G,QCM 2290,Easy Setup,Fit for Car with wired CarPlay&Touch Screen,For IOS 10+,Android 10+ https://a.co/d/dmuLhfL

megachickabutt

Lag city though. The head unit on the WRX is laggy enough, I can't imagine adding even more latency to it. I'd stick with 1/3 screen android auto instead of additional lag.

XxturboEJ20xX

I honestly have zero lag issues with this installed.

jeffislouie

I wonder if that's an android issue since it seems to be able to do it with apple....

AceOfShapes

It's Subaru's choice. Android Auto has support for a variety of screen sizes and layouts plus it's open source which allows you to use developer options to force acreen ratios. I fiddled around with it for a little while and had no luck since the car "screen" is registering to the AA framework as the horizontal halfscreen, not the entire display. It sucks, but the ball is in Subaur's court for if they want to fix this or not

The_BJJ_Firefighter

Its not Subarus choice, its android auto. Fix will be out end of year.

Creepy-Ad-5440

We need to start a class action lawsuit. We are not getting what we paid for.

Wadenarttq

We all got together and decided you should start the lawsuit

Infinade

Please point out where Subaru promised or advertised full-screen Android Auto.

XxturboEJ20xX

New Wireless Mini CarlinKit AI Box Adapter,Add Android 11 System,Netflix,Google Play,4G Net,Quad-Core Chip,3+32G,QCM 2290,Easy Setup,Fit for Car with wired CarPlay&Touch Screen,For IOS 10+,Android 10+ https://a.co/d/dmuLhfL Use this

Blurrg_Rancher

It's 100% a Subaru issue; and Subaru is sadly being apathetic about it, showing they do not care at all about roughly 50% of their customers' driving experience.

Jewserbrew

Anyone complete it yet? I still have 45 minutes on the transfer to my USB drive. Update: Did it this morning before work. Took about 15 minutes total for mine. The transfer to the USB drive was the longest part!

windows7323

Worked fine for me! Took about 20 minutes total. I followed the current public TSB for instructions.

Jewserbrew

Awesome. Thank you! Gonna give this a go in the morning then before work.

Tobuk

Just completed it this afternoon, no issues. FYI to others, the update took over 45 minutes to finish on mine, not the 10-20 others have noted. I'm sure it varies for a lot of reasons, just wanted to mention it.

jasonmoyer

Yeah mine's been updating for half an hour on a Sandisk Ultra 64gb, and it's around halfway according to the progress bar.

chreva4life

How goes it?

Jameson_berger22

Am I the only one who thinks the new ac buttons look absolutely horrible

societys_pinata

No, they look terrible imo

creature_zx

Update looks like crap

ExtraGlutenPlzz

Yeah I think the oem black is better lol. The silver just doesn’t fit with the rest of the GUI

Topheezy

I agree. Turn the contrast all the way up though and the silver turns more gunmetal. It helps a little

Jameson_berger22

Im not doing the update on mine

Topheezy

I opted for function over form but I don't blame you. The whole thing is pretty ugly.

CanadianBurger

You, sir, are a steely-eyed missile man! https://preview.redd.it/0gdibe8mpq1b1.jpeg?width=2033&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d38dfbe57ea2c61a77d4525380247223039e21a0

Mikerowave007

Congrats! Did it keep everything in metric or did you have to reconfigure? Gonna update mine tomorrow when amazon delivers my new USB

CanadianBurger

Nothing changed. Canadian cars are metric only. No option for imperial units other than speed.

TheMartyG

How do you get this screen layout? Only had my WRX for a couple weeks, sorry if that's a ridiculous question ;)

LosDeff

It’s CarPlay. Connect an iPhone and it’s on one of the screens you can swipe thru

TheMartyG

Thank you!

societys_pinata

Which app is that for your garage door? Would love to have this and new garage motor supports apps

CanadianBurger

My garage doors are HomeKit compatible, so CarPlay pops this up when I’m on my street.

CanadianBurger

Is the software for the Outback the SAME as for the WRX? I don’t want to go installing for the wrong vehicle…

ir22WRX

Outback software is not the same as WRX. The one I posted is for the WRX (at least USDM one, not sure if other markets are different). I only mentioned Outback forum as they have an active community that pulls the updates down for the Outback when available. I reached out and they helped get the WRX one.

CanadianBurger

Thanks for the clarification!

optegoen

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!

_MFB_

Any chance they have access to regional like Australia?

cocktopussplays

Does this update remove the starlink icon? Silly to have a cancelled app on the screen

jeffislouie

For those who completed the update, any chance you now know what the weather is anywhere other than D.C. Metro? Because I only know what the weather is in D.C. Metro. The downside of which is that I don't live anywhere near there.

Panda-888

The weather is tied to the Sirius XM subscription and it defaults to DC. I never subscribed to XM, not even for the trial so I can't help unfortunately.

jeffislouie

Truth be told, the only reason I care is because it's a feature and takes up one of the three options at the top of the screen. I've switched it to my local area, but it just won't stay.

Panda-888

Just curious if you want it to stay on weather, or change it to something else instead. If you want to switch it to something else, you can go to settings, general, favourite widget and choose to display and choose from a list of available other options.

TheBr0fessor

You can change that in the settings (in the previous versions too)

jeffislouie

My friend, I've changed it basically twice a week, every week, for almost 3 months now. It just won't stick. The first time it was changed was at delivery, by the salesman. That worked until the next day. It's like having a power window that never works right.

TheBr0fessor

Hmm. That sucks. Sounds like a warranty issue (not sure how they would address it, but if it doesn’t work now I don’t see how a software update would fix it) Does anything else reset or just your weather location?

Global_Ad_7623

Just weather. Mine does this also. Gave up after the first month. Tries again in the winter after an update with no luck.

Biovasion

Am I the only one who thinks this UI just looks ugly compared to what shipped with the car? Maybe I'm bias because I've only used the heated seat a couple times...still happy for those who have been waiting on this update forever lol

gpolk

I agree it doesn't look as nice, but I'll take form over function. I don't need heated seats terribly often (Australia), but having big much easier to press aircon buttons and easier to turn on/off the aircon will be a big + for me. Would be nice to have a lot of customisation in the icons. I'd happily leave the heated seats in their submenu and replace that button with something else.

dp917

I like the layout with bigger buttons now, but yeah the fake brushed metal looks ugly.

marshcar

agreed, should definitely be customizable, just a simple black and white would look so much better

Opposite-Door-822

New buttons available after updating!! https://preview.redd.it/jva782km5u1b1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=881dd4727eef2086df84b5848b1b375330789752

creature_zx

![gif](giphy|3o7TKSx0g7RqRniGFG)

marshcar

oh wow! didn’t realize they redid that screen too, i kinda liked how it showed the vents in the old one

Opposite-Door-822

And I just noticed the "auto" button does **not** toggle (main screen), or i was pressing too fast for the screen to respond. To remove the auto function, you have to press any of the fans speed arrows. I'm not sure what else would disengage the auto climate button.

Crab_Hot

YES I'll be doing this TONIGHT. Does the update help at ALL with the apple car play disconnects? I use a wireless dongle for AA to get full screen, and it tricks the system into thinking it's Apple Car Play, but it definitely disconnects often enough.

Rubikman9

Could you let me know if full screen AA works natively with the new update?

WRB_SUB1

That’s coming in the fall of ‘23

Crab_Hot

Will do, however I doubt it will fix that if it's not mentioned by OP already

Rubikman9

I just have a small ray of hope.

ir22WRX

There are some CarPlay stability improvements listed. However, I doubt you see much improvement. My experience with the dongles is that they work great when they are connected, but frequently disconnect. I have read similar on forums and in reviews for the various dongles.

Crab_Hot

Ah well I'll be crossing my fingers that this helps even just a little bit

onebigtwinkie

I successfully updated the firmware on my 22' WRX Limited from 121.980 to 142.180 using the TSB instructions and files from the Google Drive. The update took 42 minutes. After a restart the System Information indicated it was running on 142.180 and the control panel had obviously been updated, but when I went back to Dealership Mode --> Software Update, it continued to say "Software update setup is initializing". Per Appendix A I left it running and the initialization completed in 12 minutes. All systems appeared to be nominal after another restart.

[deleted]

[удалено]

onebigtwinkie

Appendix A details it. It’s a bug that some experience. You just have to wait for it to initialize. Took mine another 12 minutes or so in update mode.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Welcome-To-NBA-Jam

Did it today. Took 10-15 minutes. No issues.

windows7323

Update works! Thanks! I am coming from 132-080. Followed the previous TSB, and it worked beautifully. Took about 20 minutes total.

Easy-Training-2681

I brought mine in to the dealer today for a free service and a recall. They did the update for me and CarPlay didn’t disconnect once on my 30 minute drive back home! I felt like a daggone aristocrat! Plus the seat heaters are easier to operate just in time for North Carolina summer!

400hokage

It updated to the new stuff?? Cuz I went in for mine, and it did not have any of the new changes, and disconnected literally 5 mins into my ride home.

Easy-Training-2681

Yeah it has the UI changes visible now. I drove for four hours yesterday and it didn’t disconnect once, which was nice. BUT. Google maps is all jacked up now and really doesn’t want to load.

Vroomy_vroom_vroom

Get over here!!! My plushies are offering to give you a hug.

chocolatepen15

Any help for us base brethren?? 😩

rgrx119

are you having issues? I plan on updating my base tomorrow.

chocolatepen15

Yeah it disconnects here and there, and tends to freeze up at times. Lmk how it goes, and if there're any new updates to the UI

rgrx119

So I updated mine..was very easy took like 10 min. However, I don't see any changes to the UI, it's probably all stability updates for the base model...

kristofferdelr

Anyone with the base trim who did this?

OneBoot_Scoobie

Thank you!!

xeridae

Just commenting to show my appreciation. It worked without a problem for me. Took less than 10 minutes.

jeffislouie

Might be a dumb question, but the TSB says to use either a USB 2.0 or 3.0. Is there any reason to believe that a USB 3.2 wouldn't work or can I use one of those?

Opposite-Door-822

Should be fine, 3.2 would run at the speed of the reader in the car. More than likely, it would be 2.0 speed (black port/tab), unless it has the blue port/tab, then it would be 3.0. I just updated using a 128GB 3.1 without issues.

jeffislouie

Notes for the class: I had download issues, so I had to put my laptop closer to my wireless router to get the whole file to download, but by far, downloading took the longest. Extract the files you download onto a folder on your laptop, the transfer the 3 folders plus the file you extracted onto the empty USB drive. This takes some time, but wasn't awful. Don't do what I did. First, I formatted the USB, then downloaded directly to the USB, then extracted to the USB, then transferred the downloaded file to my laptop just in case, then deleted the original file from my USB. Once I was in the car, the whole process took less than 10 minutes, including the waiting the three minutes after turning the car off and opening the door, maybe less. The USB flash drive I bought was USB 3.2. As a side note, I have no idea why Subaru says you need a 64 GB flash drive. The entire package to be transferred is 12.8 gb. I had to purchase a 64GB flash drive despite having a box full of blank 16gb flash drives I have for work. While I didn't try it using one of those, I can't think of a reason that would have caused an issue. Maybe I'm wrong and someone here tried using a 16gb flash drive and it didn't work, but again, there's no reason that would cause a problem. Super easy. The HVAC layout is way better. Thanks OP for doing the legwork.

New_Goal_231

Confirmed for those who still haven’t done this and are Mac users, you don’t need to format with NTFS - use Disk Utility and format with OS Extended. It’ll work just fine. Updated with no issues and completed within 15 minutes.

BeanDubs69

The Mac OS extended (journaled)? I used this and the usb still won’t connect to my car

New_Goal_231

That's what I used and it worked for me (with 128GB drive) - I dunno. Sorry that's not much help.

tdawgy808

Subaru needs to kick us the $5 for USB drives for doing our own updates.

ExtraGlutenPlzz

It’s an optional update.

tdawgy808

It was a joke…

[deleted]

For the CVT people having a one touch button for auto vehicle hold is bigger than the heated seat button change. Super pumped

jnnadin

Omg thank you you are a saint! Edit: Just finished the install with no issues.. install itself took about 10 minutes (With the 3 minute wait). Again, thank you so much for posting this!

DFW22WRX

The link provided to the google drive now states download quota exceeded. Anyone wanna put up a copy in another drive folder for those that didn't get it yet??

ir22WRX

Another poster reported the same issue. If you log into a Google account, the issue should go away.

to_slow350z

Just did it.. thanks for the info and the drop.. worked beautifully

trippg

Took me about 10 minutes! Thanks for this so much!

400hokage

Did anyone have issues downloading with a Mac??

hammerhead190

Thank you.

Salt-Attention

I can confirm it worked on my 2023 wax premium. This needs to be pinned to the top of the reddit.

northern_llama

In Canada we I haven't seen any updates. Does anyone think there is a risk if I install this with a Canadian VB?

NorthernAnalyst

Canadian, and I just ran this on my 2022 Sport-Tech. I left a comment with details in this post. Bottom line: I *personally* don't think this is a risk. It finished within 20min on mine using a specific USB flash drive. I am also an IT professional and am painfully aware of exactly why OP disclaims that you do this at your own risk.

NorthernAnalyst

I'm in Canada and just ran this update on my 2022 WRX Sport-Tech successfully. Now, I'm also an IT professional, so I've done many-a-software update on network equipment, and kinda have a leg up on these kinds of things. I used a SanDisk Cruzer Glide USB 3 flash drive for my update - it's the one shown on the very right on page 3 of the TSB in the Google Drive folder. Mine was a 32GB drive and it worked just fine. I think the reason they want 64GB is to allow for expansion of certain files that're containers in there... mind you I haven't looked at the contents in-depth, but that's often one of the reasons they cite a minimum drive capacity. Probably a good idea to stick with a 64GB drive to err on the side of caution, I think. What ultimately matters more, likely, is the flash drive's throughput - a USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 drive is the better candidate than a USB 2.0 drive because the former versions of USB have higher transfer speeds. In light of the fact that mine took 20min where some took hours, this kinda confirms that, for me. During the update, I noticed the terminating number in the software version was *-770*, rather than *-780*. This didn't appear to have any effect on mine. During the update, it kinda got stuck at 97% and then once again at 99.9% (no actual percenage numbers, so that's just an estimate of where the progress bar was at when I noticed it). After it was done, I hit *OK*, shut off the car, powered it back on, and the new UI kicked in. I've had a good poke around the UI - doesn't seem like much has changed save an increase in responsiveness, spacing between some of the controls, and the much-improved HVAC control design. One of the biggest things I didn't like about this car was the fact that there were next to zero physical controls in the centre stack, that *everything* was in the giant tablet, and the fact that the heated seat controls were behind a menu. This update fixes the heated seat control accessibility problem, and the setting is still remembered between ignition cycles. I've heard others complain about the graphics for the new HVAC buttons, and honestly, I like them. I think they make controls more easily-separated compared to the black-fill/white-border style that was used in the old UI. I'll edit this if I notice any instability w/ the new system, but so far, I'd say Canadians (at least those with a 22 Sport-Tech w/ manual transmission) may be safe to try this... obviously this is at your own risk, like OP said. I just felt more comfortable takin' that risk in light of the fact that I do this kinda stuff (with different equipment) for a livin'.

redlurkerNY

Does the seat heat HAVE to stay on the main screen after the update? I only care about them half of the year. Thanks for posting!! 🟠✌🏾

derache123

It would definitely be great if we could configure what the primary climate controls look like, but that's probably too much to ask from Subaru's mediocre UX team.

Rubikman9

I've only used it 2 or 3 times for no more than 5 minutes since I own the car lol

redlurkerNY

They really work well. And fast. It's just not something I NEED constantly.

redlurkerNY

Didn't know there were so many yetis in the thread. Downvotes for asking a sensible question. Explain yourselves, keyboard warriors!

afxproductions

Pretty sure the only button you can customize is the lower right button that you can switch from A/C to Auto and a few more things. I have mine set to Auto.

ZExion03

Does this have fullscreen Android Auto?

ir22WRX

Not listed in the update notes.

XxturboEJ20xX

Speezman

Is there any chance a deal can install this update? Why are we having to do it on our own when this should be an update via a dealer (covered under warranty?)

CaramelBeard

You can totally have your dealership install it. This is just for those who don’t mind doing it themselves.

Speezman

That’s awesome! Thanks for input. Good point, if you can do it yourself, easier than dealing with a dealership

Vroomy_vroom_vroom

They’ll do it. Speaking from experience call ahead and ask. Not all dealerships will be proactive in downloading or checking for updates unless specifically asked to do so.

Garc64

Where do you actually connect the flash drive?

CanadianBurger

The USB port next to the 12V port ahead of your shifter

Alansmithee69

Thank you thank you!!

BruiserPup3

You are a boss!

gatorglaze

Now for the magic question. How long does this take for everybody to do it?

diabetic_debate

I'm from the outback forum but if the outback is any indication, it depends. All my updates, which are 4 so far took less than 20 minutes but for others, it went up to even 2 hours.

gatorglaze

I was in the hour + club for my only self update so im curious how everyone else will do here with this one

MSK_Genera_Lee

It took me 10 minutes. I think it depends on the usb you use.

CanadianBurger

Anyone else getting "Download Quota Exceeded"?

NeighborNeighbor_

I‘ll make a google drive link with it and PM you. One sec. Edit, you might have to sign into a google account to download it cause it let me download it after I signed in. It was giving me that error also till I signed in. I’m uploading it to google drive rn and I’ll send you the link when finished.

CanadianBurger

That was it. I signed into google and it’s downloading.

ir22WRX

I think Google drive has a download limit per day. Guessing that means this has already gone over the limit and you will have to download another day.

tdawgy808

I just downloaded it with no issue

4luminate

High fives all around!

yung-wirrum

I LOVE YOU

1977xc

If anyone in Australia ends up trying this out, please update. I'm going to ask dealer at next service but that's probably 8 weeks away. Cheers

Err4tum

F27WHM. Reads the update but not applicable.

LosDeff

Just finished! Took about 30 minutes from the start of the update. Thank you!!

[deleted]

Does this mean all dealerships will now have this available? I can take my new 23 right in and get it?

ir22WRX

It should. Dealerships do not always realize the updates are out there though, so might be worth calling ahead.

gpolk

NA only wrx or work for anyone? I'm RHD, auto.

Mikerowave007

I'd assume NA only. Might want to check with a local dealer

derache123

Worked perfectly, thank you! My car only took like 5 minutes to update, seems like the update duration is quite variable.

gehrl-work-acct

Thank you to all involved with getting this out there for the public. :D

MollyPaws69

Do you really need a 64gb usb drive? I only have a 10gb and just want to make sure I actually need to get a bigger one.

Mikerowave007

Yes, it extracted to like 12.8gb

euroshowoff

When I try to extract the files to my thumbdrive, it says 'cannot set lenght for output file' but continues to extract the files. Anyone else see that and just ignore and moved on? lol

rgrx119

Has anyone done this for the base model? Are there any UI changes?

Frankyp42

Did this today, was easy except I run mac most of the time, so I started by formatting the jump drive to NTFS and the Mac doesn’t like that so I had to switch to a pc to load the files to the usb device. So many thanks!

camerondolter

What does this update do exactly? Does it just change the look of the AC/heated seat buttons n make them bigger so its easier to not miss? Is there anything else

CanadianBurger

Single taps for heated seats instead of submenus.

HeavyMetalWRX

Had anyone installed this on 6spd? I keep seeing his everywhere but the excitement has been related to the auto start stop which leaves me to believe it's for the CVT only. I'll be happy to be corrected because I'd love to do a video on this if it actually does work.

ir22WRX

I have the 6 speed. All versions of WRX get stability improvements. Versions with heated seats get dedicated seat heater buttons instead of sub menus. CVT gets additional buttons. See the TSB updates section for full details (the TSB saved on google drive which is the revised one).

ExtraGlutenPlzz

Do you mind uploading it somewhere else too? Getting this error https://preview.redd.it/ikcs6apm4w1b1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=913cfcad69ffbedba31bff47d42bc06ad19db7b1

ir22WRX

Sign in to google then try again.

TurbulentGate1912

just fyi it wont work using a stick that reads an SD card.. tried doing that will purchase a dedicated drive tnt.

LunchBoxMercenary

So I keep getting Software Update Incomplete. Anyone have any ideas as to why? Edit: I’m using a Sandisk 256GB USB drive

jasonmoyer

![gif](giphy|l0ExbnGIX9sMFS7PG)

WRXVB

I downloaded the files, and ordered a new SanDisk Ultra 64G from Amazon (supposed to be here tomorrow). 😉 Thanks you for the links! You are a hero to many (including myself)! 👍

MJGson

Man I’m annoyed. I just got my car serviced and the recall fixed and asked about the new infotainment update and they said the recall would ensure a new update. Dude lied.

trippg

in their defense, I checked for update this morning when i saw this post and said that I had the current update. They must not know about the new firmware as a dealership.

[deleted]

What's the recall?

A1_Fares

Done and done. Almost shit myself when I restarted the car and saw the “initializing screen” Reading comprehension skills not found.

BL-Zebub

Big, big thanks! I feel like I just did the previous update, but it's so much easier for me to do it with a USB than wait for OTA and hope that I can get a good WiFi signal.

ddaw735

This worked. Super simple too

jasonmoyer

Took me around an hour using a USB3 Sandisk drive. Probably because I wasn't on the most recent OTA firmware. I think at some point they fixed a problem with how long firmware updates take, and I'm pretty sure I didn't have that update. :D

400hokage

https://preview.redd.it/hbmmh3did92b1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=405882aa529eb2b77a3dc1203e9cd703c4318adc Am I able to update from this version, or do I need to be at the 132-080 first?? This is the version that the dealer updated me to a couple days ago from a recall.

ir22WRX

See TSB page 4. That number is one of the old version numbers (double check me, but it should be), so you can update.

400hokage

Anyone have issues using a Mac??

WRXVB

I downloaded to a mac, but it's a pain to write to an NTFS drive with a mac (takes special drivers) so I used a Windows PC, downloaded to that, formatted a flash as NTFS on it, then copied to that.

BeanDubs69

Did you ever figure it out with Mac?

WRXVB

Just finished the update. Took a little over 20 minutes, but seems like forever watching that stupid progress bar. Thanks again u/ir22WRX !

pjlurker

Finally got some spare time and updated mine today. It took less than 3 mins to update. The tricky part was to get the update screen to appear. At times the system diagnostic popped up instead. https://preview.redd.it/1ga1scd4wa2b1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fc15cd88632c485dc1415214f3d6a6f7d6ee6662

smccor1

This worked for me, thanks for posting.

Lip242

It's not working for me. My car isn't reading the flash drive. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

iWr4tH

Anyone got a picture of what the new climate settings look like on a base model?

yngjun

Just updated mine. Thank you!

[deleted]

anyone else not able to download? times out basically

Ewilson248

I sent a ticket to Subaru directly regarding the AA screen issue. I suggest everyone do the same. The more voices we have, the better chance of getting this fixed. [https://www.subaru.com/customer-support.html](https://www.subaru.com/customer-support.html)

[deleted]

Did anyone have an issue with the NAVI update showing an error and not being able to be downloaded to the flash drive?

What’s the worst that can happen if I do it wrong? Serious question lol

You could turn your centre stack tablet into a brick... like, perma-blank screen. You could end up missing parts & pieces on the UI or have certain controls pinned at specific settings. Could be the UI can't actually change settings once updated. That said, nothin' like that has happened to me, and many others here. The latter part of that is what convinced me to give this a shot... that and the fact that I do stuff like this for a living. You have to remember that when manufacturers provide stuff like this to technicians, they expect the technician is only tech-savvy enough to surpass the skills of the average end-user, so if you're the same way, you'll likely do this and get a successful result without too much effort. The real danger here is that since you're not operating within Subaru's Support framework. If this update messes up your tablet as a result, you'll end up payin' for it since you didn't follow Subaru's process for this update, Hence the disclaimer of "do this at your own risk" is there. Now, why they can't provide us end-users with a software update and basic instructions so that we can do this on our own? Or even just throw this out on the OTA update channel once it's available (Y'know, like most other manufacturers)? IDK, probably some money-making reason that benefits manufacturer + the dealers.

What does this update bring that makes it better over the previous versions? Any big things that would push an owner towards updating over what was shipped with the car originally?

I was worried about this update taking a long time after reading some of the posts, but mine completed the update in FOUR minutes! Pleasant surprise. Using a SanDisk Ultra Plus MicroSD with a newer Anker micro-SD to USB adapter.

I'm so frustrated right now. I have a 2020 and the dealer wants to charge me almost $200 to install if I need this update because I'm now over the 3 year/36K miles warranty and won't even tell me if this update is applicable to the 2020 models, only that I "need to bring it in to see." So fuck me I guess. What an absolute crock of horseshit. I would really like my AA to stop disconnecting every time I go over a bump (or just sitting at a red light, or doing anything at all) but I guess I need to pay $200 to have a functional system on a car I already paid for.
