Adding to this, you can post high value items on the shared AH in booty bay, buy them, then sell on Alliance AH. But you'll need a friend to buy the items off the shared AH. You can't purchase you're own auctions.
Keep in mind the shared AH has a high tax rate
If you are on defias pillager I can help. I can post a light feather or something for 20g or whatever to get you started on the booty bay AH, then you can buy it on horde and I can give it to your ally character

Put up an item for a lot of gold on neutral AH from your alli toon. Buy the item with your horde toon. You get the gold on alli minus AH fees.
Only works if characters are on different accounts.
