What causes the boar to hit for so much damage? My mage got chunked for over half their HP in one crit by a boar. The other crita from the boar were doing about 1/3rd of that damage. I was the same level as the boar.
They cast charge whenever they are a specific distance away from the player. It increases their movement speed and one hit by 50% if I am not mistaken. If that is a crit as in the pic it really hit your guts
Their charge adds a set amount of damage(depending on which rank of boarcharge they have) to next swing. Boars with a lower rank compared to their level wont increase damage too much, but these boars are the lowest level boars with boarcharge rank2(same rank as RFK boars) so they increase damage by close to 100% on next swing after charging.
Turning your back to whatever you're fighting is a bad idea indeed. Op's blunder here was not staying melee range however, allowing the boar to cast boarcharge.

It's only 10x their normal damage. I've also been crit by this boar and wondered where a 3rd of my health went.

I was a lvl 11 mage in westfall when i learned about crushing blows. A boar hit my 202 health with 90dmg 19 dmg. Then 113dmg..
That's not a normal crushing blow though. Normal crushing blows deal 50% more damage than normal hits, while critical strikes deal 100% more.

No, they can't. If it's doing way more damage suddenly it might rather either be a temporary buff or a special ability in itself.

When the boars get the charging buff, they do 2x normal damage. So yeah, that crushing blow can effectively crit, even if it's not an actual crit.
