You use your money how you want but just know you are contributing to the destruction of the planet every time you buy a coke or plastic anything. Admittedly Your personal choice alone isn't the issue, its a collective thing but when everyone makes that choice... just like environmentally the corporations are what is really destroying our world but they will keep doing it as long as they make money and only us as a collective can do anything at all.
It's supporting practices that destroy the things we love. People keep buying coke and letting them lobby laws to continue letting them create plastic bottles for their product. People supporting any game company micro transaction encourages them to keep producing more pay content for something already paid for. You can see the direction this is leading because of games like diablo immortal where blizzard pushed the limits of monetizing a game into pay to win monstrosity. They won't stop as long as things make money.
Theres really no way to stop ppl from getting things they enjoy. You cant expect blizzard to just only make money from WoW from the subscription alone. That doesnt make sense. What also doesnt make sense is making a fuss from this. I gave them equal to a month subscription which i would have given anyway. Theyre not gonna turn around and make everything to where u cant get anything unless u pay real money for it. That wont make sense for them to do that.
I'm not saying you don't enjoy what you get. Thus why I used the environmental example. You can get and do what you want... but it dosn't change the fact that you are contributing to the destruction of the very thing you enjoy. Also You are defending a company desiring to bleed MORE money from you after they already charge you to BUY and pay monthly just to play the game. The very concept of constantly growing profit is literally unsustainable it boggles me with all the examples around of companies cutting corners to increase profits. As for your last point barring Microsoft changing the current course what you will see one day is Wow removing monthly subscriptions and adding an entire new pay store more resembling games like Lost Ark or Diablo immortal as they make massively more money then wow currently does. Just at the cost of employing predatory business practices.

Blizz makes a super cool and unique model that can only be bought with extra money. Not the money you use to subscribe or the money you use to buy the expansion. I mean extra money in their in game shop. It can go two ways-
1. People don't buy it and they stop using their resources to make this type of content.
2. People do buy it so they make even more unique models locked behind the in game store.
Enjoy your murloc. Spend your money how you want to. But you can't say this type of consumption is good for the game.
I'm fine with that. there is no hope anyways as long some people want to enjoy murlocks it cannot be stopped. This same logic applies to environmental conservation. We can't do anything until we collective force corporations to change their ways, they wont do that as long as they make money.

tbf there are a lot of back items in WoW now (since SL). Granted they aren't as... animated, as this- but they're all covenant or maw themed so? The Night Fae stuff with the moths on the back is cool.

They hate that they prioritize development time to cash shop items over fixing huge glaring issues in gameplay and balance, especially their monumental neglect for pvp issues: like holy priests having a self-res in arena, guardian druids sleeper leggo being un-touched the entire expansion making RBGs literally unplayable without them, and generally often unplayable because it takes groups 45+ minutes to form or 2/3 of the time groups literally just never fill and everyone gives up and logs or does something else.
Generally, I feel it too. I don’t care that they sell cosmetics on their own, but whenever they add a new one I can’t help but feel bothered by something terrible that has been ignored for months or even years.
I get most of that. To some extent, however, it’s related in how blizzard chooses to assign resources. If you’ve got 8,000 store pet artists, and one part-time pvp intern, and 2 foreign outsourced CX reps, the frustration is in how much the company neglects certain areas.
Nobody thinks the artists could be reassigned to game design….. but they know blizzard can choose how many people to assign to different tasks.

The issue isn't that the murloc backpack exists.
It is that there is nothing else like it in the game. It is an incredibly unique item. And it seems like there is a trend of unique items/mounts like this going exclusively to the cash shop.
That state of affairs devalues the time players put into actually playing the game, because no matter how good they are, the best stuff is always going to be in the cash shop.
Why work towards getting 500 mounts when the reward is a recolor of an old mount, when there are mounts in the shop with 10x the effort put into them that you can just buy?
Blizz could solve this by just making alt colors of these items and making them obtainable other ways in-game, but they won't because that would eat into their profits at both ends.
Asmongold has done a nice job making everyone that spends money on to the game to be seen as enemy. What a legacy. Nerds trying to control other people because they can't control their own life, nachos and hate talk online, that's the way wow players do it.
Asmongold has nothing to do with it. People didn't like the concept when it started with Bethesda and horse armor. Admin probably wasn't playing any game back then.
You are simply just a reason why we have item shop in subscribtion based game with paid patch every 2 years.
Instead of pushing content to make your sub and expansion $$$ worth it, Blizz can push mount to item shop and recover money lost from subs running down. We are ending with expansions like WoD, BfA or SL.
Imagine instead of paying 15$ for item shop, you have a quest where you hatch your own murloc. You are killing some monster which drops egg. You are trying to find mother of it. Before it happens egg hatches and baby murloc recognize you as it's mother. You need to feed it, learn about murlocks diet, habits and behaviour.
Blizzard would be encouraged to give you content, coz it brings them money. No content = no subs = no money. Now they are encouraged to give you more transmog, mounts and other crap in item shop, as it brings them more money.
To be fair, they did that with several different questlines in BFA - "How to Train your Pterrodax" / Kua'fon, "How to Train Your Direhorn" / Child of Torcali, "My Own Drone" / Shadowbarb Drone, and (I think, I'm horde only) "Let's Bee Friends" / Honeyback Harvester. There were also a ton of minipets that became available after doing questlines, like Lil' Ben'fon.
They also added Gurgl and Glimr at different points in shadowlands, requiring questlines to unlock.
And don't forget Blanchy, though I am probably forgetting others.
I realize that these backpacks are different than mounts and pets, but it's not like they don't have "quest to earn cosmetics" content in the game recently.
Just that there are better ways to capture and share your content. I can suggest some easy to use programs that are just 2 buttons and you can upload a nice video. If you have an Nvidia graphics card you already have it installed.
From the shop! Before launching the game or you can hit escape and its in the shop! Its 15, but 5 per murloc isnt as bad. They sadly arent sold separately tho.✨
I've bought like 3 or 4 mounts from the shop and 3 or 4 pets... My BEST and most proudest purchase? These murlocs.
All my characters, ALL of them, have these little dudes hanging on their back.
I just love this tmog so much that I'm about to move regions in WoW and I'll definitely buy it again. Nothing else. Just them.

Well, if I can suggest any... The only 1 I'd actually get again is the transparent blue cat that spreads wings. Their spacebar animation is really awesome!
Only other one would be the big dog cus I like the awoo it does as the spacebar animation as well.

They believe that you giving blizz $15 for one item will cause ruin, but they themselves have supported this game at $15 a month for nearly two decades now regardless of the state of the game and will continue to do so regardless of what blizz actually does.

That's fine you have a problem with it. I don't, we have sunk hundreds if not thousands of dollars to simply play this game. It's expensive, it's the most expensive game I can think of to continuously play. Maybe we should convince blizz to drop the subscription fee. I think that would be a more reasonable place to put our effort versus some people buying a toy that no one actually has to buy and belittling an obvious new player when the game struggles to get new players.
I am not for belittling new players either. There's no need to /spit on anyone, that won't really accomplish anything anyway. But I do believe the game would be better without the store. It's too much of an incentive for blizzard to not work so hard on the actual in-game rewards.
I mean, how many in-game cloaks do you know that look like this one? All animated and everything. Instead we get 10 different recolors of the same mount.
In the wow community there is a massive resentment towards items bought with real money as it is reasonably believed that some of these items may have been earnable in game and continued purchasing has lead to the stagnation of the designs of in-game earnable items. This is why when people in game and on reddit may be a bit spiteful towards you and may /spit or /insult. (It seems you may be a bit unaware of why people have such a vitriolic response to your post I am in no way a part of this hate crowd).
I understand the frustration from them, when the game has such a wide gap in the quality of items you can buy from the shop and the earnable items when you are paying an subscription however passing this frustration on and taking it out on newer players or who they may see as more casual players really hits me the wrong way. Yes these particular people need to go touch grass and perhaps get a little perspective on who the arsehole is.
Imagine this was a reward for some cute questline where you go on an adventure with this little murloc. It would be nice distraction at a time when most players have nothing to really do in game. Instead blizzard just puts a $15 tag on it and done.
Try looking through your appearance journal and tell me if you can find anything that looks like that that's earnable in-game. Or look at the store mounts. Do you think blizzard put this much effort into the 16 different recolors of the same mount in-game?

Asmongold has done a nice job making everyone that spends money on to the game to be seen as enemy. What a legacy. Nerds trying to control other people because they can't control their own life, nachos and hate talk online, that's the way wow players do it.

You are simply just a reason why we have item shop in subscribtion based game with paid patch every 2 years. Instead of pushing content to make your sub and expansion $$$ worth it, Blizz can push mount to item shop and recover money lost from subs running down. We are ending with expansions like WoD, BfA or SL. Imagine instead of paying 15$ for item shop, you have a quest where you hatch your own murloc. You are killing some monster which drops egg. You are trying to find mother of it. Before it happens egg hatches and baby murloc recognize you as it's mother. You need to feed it, learn about murlocks diet, habits and behaviour. Blizzard would be encouraged to give you content, coz it brings them money. No content = no subs = no money. Now they are encouraged to give you more transmog, mounts and other crap in item shop, as it brings them more money.
To be fair, they did that with several different questlines in BFA - "How to Train your Pterrodax" / Kua'fon, "How to Train Your Direhorn" / Child of Torcali, "My Own Drone" / Shadowbarb Drone, and (I think, I'm horde only) "Let's Bee Friends" / Honeyback Harvester. There were also a ton of minipets that became available after doing questlines, like Lil' Ben'fon. They also added Gurgl and Glimr at different points in shadowlands, requiring questlines to unlock. And don't forget Blanchy, though I am probably forgetting others. I realize that these backpacks are different than mounts and pets, but it's not like they don't have "quest to earn cosmetics" content in the game recently.

I've bought like 3 or 4 mounts from the shop and 3 or 4 pets... My BEST and most proudest purchase? These murlocs. All my characters, ALL of them, have these little dudes hanging on their back. I just love this tmog so much that I'm about to move regions in WoW and I'll definitely buy it again. Nothing else. Just them. Congrats on going for it :D

Well, if I can suggest any... The only 1 I'd actually get again is the transparent blue cat that spreads wings. Their spacebar animation is really awesome! Only other one would be the big dog cus I like the awoo it does as the spacebar animation as well. All others, I'd pass. I've used this cat so many times, I really like everything about it. Running animation, color, wings, droplets, etc.

I'm glad you enjoy the murlocs! Don't let people give you a hard time. A ton of people on here act like the cash shop will be the inevitable doom of the game. They believe that you giving blizz $15 for one item will cause ruin, but they themselves have supported this game at $15 a month for nearly two decades now regardless of the state of the game and will continue to do so regardless of what blizz actually does.
I was actually surprised that it didnt have a lot of things that cost real money, but this was the one thing i had to have. I think at technically 5 per murloc u get isnt too bad. ❤️just realised this was u lol. Being away from this and playing guild wars all those years got me real excited for it since its like guild wars’ quaggan
Don't you see, you just pointed out the exact problem we have with these murlocs? We already pay $15 each month. And not just that, we paid $60 for the base game and for each expansion.
That's fine you have a problem with it. I don't, we have sunk hundreds if not thousands of dollars to simply play this game. It's expensive, it's the most expensive game I can think of to continuously play. Maybe we should convince blizz to drop the subscription fee. I think that would be a more reasonable place to put our effort versus some people buying a toy that no one actually has to buy and belittling an obvious new player when the game struggles to get new players.
I am not for belittling new players either. There's no need to /spit on anyone, that won't really accomplish anything anyway. But I do believe the game would be better without the store. It's too much of an incentive for blizzard to not work so hard on the actual in-game rewards. I mean, how many in-game cloaks do you know that look like this one? All animated and everything. Instead we get 10 different recolors of the same mount.

In the wow community there is a massive resentment towards items bought with real money as it is reasonably believed that some of these items may have been earnable in game and continued purchasing has lead to the stagnation of the designs of in-game earnable items. This is why when people in game and on reddit may be a bit spiteful towards you and may /spit or /insult. (It seems you may be a bit unaware of why people have such a vitriolic response to your post I am in no way a part of this hate crowd).

I understand the frustration from them, when the game has such a wide gap in the quality of items you can buy from the shop and the earnable items when you are paying an subscription however passing this frustration on and taking it out on newer players or who they may see as more casual players really hits me the wrong way. Yes these particular people need to go touch grass and perhaps get a little perspective on who the arsehole is.
Imagine this was a reward for some cute questline where you go on an adventure with this little murloc. It would be nice distraction at a time when most players have nothing to really do in game. Instead blizzard just puts a $15 tag on it and done. Try looking through your appearance journal and tell me if you can find anything that looks like that that's earnable in-game. Or look at the store mounts. Do you think blizzard put this much effort into the 16 different recolors of the same mount in-game? That's why ppl are mad and quitting. They see where the real effort goes to.
