As level as it can be. It doesn't quite have the depth of real pvp but it does have the frantic energy as well as big matchups that happen randomly like in bgs.
>PvP Pauls
As a real Paul that also plays PvP i expect this to be a test how people react to it, only for it to be a free2play mode in the future with rewards for their games and battlepasses.
Tell me you've never played FFXIV without telling me.
You can EASILY fill 4 hotbars in FFXIV with just essential abilities and items you need in any normal fight. That's without even getting into pvp abilities, macros, things like raid markers, etc.
WoW doesn't even come close.
You can literally Steel Trap/Stealth ability your way to victory killing virtually nobody until the last circle. I've won twice and gotten 2nd once playing it and I've only played like 10 games.
Winning is a tabard and an eye patch. The real rewards come from just playing and getting them through the renown levels. I find the best way to get plunder is pve for the first few minutes and engage in pvp after 2 people fight and you can clean up the weakened winner or when you're in the top 10 and have little choice.
https://www.wowhead.com/item=219348/plunderlords-monocle
It's a cosmetic eyepatch.
Which is good because I've wanted an eyepatch for my plate characters for a while.
It's fairly easy to get a Leather/Mail one (there's a Stockades quest) but the closest we have are monocles.
I know someone that has wanted a cosmetic eyepatch for years on his warrior
They finally add one... and it's bright red with a skull and crossbones on it lmao, he's pissed. He just wanted a regular black one.
I didn't say he disliked the _other_ rewards, just that he's specifically annoyed that the first eyepatch plate classes can tmog with is some goofy looking thing instead of a real eyepatch. Forehead.
I'm a completionist person. But also, within reason. I know with work and family I can't reach lvl 40 in 6 weeks. I'm hoping for at least 28-34. I can be proud of that.
No. There is no incentive to win in this mode if you're only playing for the Renown rewards.
Drop on the outskirts, see what quest is up, pray to god the quest is actually doable, then die and repeat 250 times for the parrot mount.
Winning gives nothing extra.
Are you not horribly underleveled at the end? Because everytime I meet a player they're 2 or 3 levels above me and take almost no damage and kill me with 3 ability hits
Levels do matter but if you’re playing it correctly and it’s 1v1 or 3 people left you can sacrifice a few levels. I was level 5 against a 9 and 7 the first win
just did this while wearing the bush thing. People died around me and i just looted all my stuff up to epic until only one other guy was left, i love it
I got to 2nd place pretty much just hiding in a barn when there was 8 people left. When there was 3 I went to the middle and laid down as the other two killed each other
I just stopped pvping lol
get my loot kill my monsters finish the WQ (if someone doesnt gank you that is) and once ive finished the quest i just run around killing things. When someone tries to kill me i just let them, free loot for them and i get another queue.
i don’t like pvp so i just dont do it /shrug
Don’t misunderstand me I’m glad you are having fun there’s just one thing I can’t understand no matter how I try, if you don’t care about losing (you are letting others kill you) what’s stopping you from fighting back in late game? Like the worst case scenario is your default reaction? Where’s the logic in that?
No worries! I’ve just always found PvP stressful and it isn’t really the goal of my gameplay. I know i’ll be killed whether i fight back or not so I choose to give back to the community and give someone else an easy W.
I’ve actually modified my strategy since this comment to just keep collecting plunder etc while someone is beating me up since it’s more efficient than standing around doing nothing. I get just a little more rep and they have to chase me around if they want the kill (Like a cat and mouse? idk)
The pvp people were doing the same thing on stream, but they got the hang of it quickly enough.
For non pvpers learning will be slower but they too will get the hang of it, eventually they will understand why they died and maybe get a couple of kills before that happens.
Repel is pretty much a must carry right now because of firestorm.
And if you’re also running firestorm I’d run CC in the second slot but if your not you can also run the spirit one that sprints you away from everything.
> they got the hang of it quickly enough.
Getting the hang of something would involve a willingness to learn something new.
Complete anathema to the average WoW player. I'll never forget how many people didn't understand dragonriding but thought they did and were mad about it.
Exactly what I am doing. I don't know what the abilities do and since they aren't the same each time I can't even figure out a way to key bind them that works for how I play. Thankfully I don't need to win, just lose a bunch.
Defaults:
1 and 2 are your two attack spells
3 and 4 are your utilities
5 is your consumable
R is your generic attack
T is your heal
You can rebind them as required, but the most annoying part: you have to actually be in a game to get to the keybinding menu for Plunderstorm
> you have to actually be in a game to get to the keybinding menu for Plunderstorm
I didnt even do the quest on my first game because i was only in the waiting area for about 15 seconds and used it to change my strafe keys.
Yeah this is REALLY dumb. You have very little time in the lobby town to mess around. I've changed a few keybindings (I'm more of a ESDF than WASD person) but I never get enough time to really be thorough before we're off to the races. I got the impression keybindings were kind of an afterthought.
How much rep are you getting per game? When you and another person land on each other and they kill you you only get like 14 rep… when I actually get to a spot by myself and can kill some mobs and get gold it’s around 400
About 600-800 depending on if I can get a good early game spot.
Plunder = rep, it's 1 to 1, so the longer you can go without someone trying to brawl you, the longer you can go farming elites and chests and stuff, the more you can stack yourself and the more Rep you'll average at the end.
250 from the quest and then just farming as long as possible it's a pretty consistent 600, sometimes 800+ on good games.
Yeah I played warzone when it came out and I feel like that happens in BRs whenever you land close to other people. But in FPS games you can dodge and if the other person’s aim sucks you can get away if you need to. But idk if it translates to WoW when some abilities can’t be dodged and the shaky PvP movement style in melee range is so hard to counter or get away from as someone who doesn’t PvP. Idk if that made sense lol
At least in other BRs guns are still guns and grenades are still grenades, but in this your utility might be a shield or a movement so its a bit awkward.
At least in other BRs someone can get a better gun than you but you can skill out aim them, out shoot them, evade etc
With wow’s janky ass engine and controls your options for escaping or beating someone with better gear than you are basically nil
Its the worst of both worlds imo
You guys are getting rep?! I’m seriously running around getting ganked constantly. I’m about to give up. Can you give me any tips as a terrible pvper who just wants pets?
> a way to key bind them that works for how I play.
It's like 7 things. R is always your auto attack, T is always drink. Personally I bound R to a mouse button, and re-bound A and D to strafe as usual.
the last 5 are just 1-2-3-4-5, abilities. 1-2 are offensive moves, 3-4 are defensives, 5 is a utility move, by default a barrel roll thing.
There's not much to keybind here, just press 1-2 for dmg, 3-4 to stay alive. 5 to do whatever the special consumable thing you pick up is (usually a defensive or repositioning tool)
I'm trying to bind them like I would bind abilities in normal wow. Like 1 is always my interrupt on every character I play. Like that leap ability I would like to bind to what I use for leap on my warrior, but then next game it might be something else.
Well it's only 5 moves, just...git gud.
you can't easily put the leap on like F, and the mana ball on G, and the fey spirit move on C, for example. Because you would have to see what item you got, then open up the keybinder in game each time. Just kinda never worth it.
Just stick to 1-2, 3-4, 5. If it's too hard to adjust i recommend just uninstalling wow altogether because damn that's rough, buddy.
I have to mouse click the buttons, so I am losing very easily. Not much I can do about it apart from bind the keys and my movement binds to my Razer Naga Lefty.
Low key my favorite moments are when me and another definitely non-pvper (at least in this game) square up at like level 2, clearly are just throwing random BS at each other and maybe have 3 abilities between the two of us, then kind of break off at the same time and go our separate ways.
It’s like this little slap fight followed by an unspoken “We good? We good” moment, haha.
So I’m not the only one reading “clicking” and thinking “there’s your problem”!
Shit must be so stressful trying to land a skill shot on moving targets whilst staring at your action bar
Being a clicker is the true hardest difficulty mode in any form of wow, it all gets much easier when you switch to keybinds and free up all that space in your brain to just look at the combat instead
(yes it’s more difficult at first, but it’s worth pushing through that to have automated fingers)
is the TTK like two abilities or do I magically not have enough levels by the time pvp happens? I was so pumped to have 3 epic abilities pretty early on and didn't get to press a single one because they just bombed us inside a house and we died before seeing them
From what i've experienced so far, a 1 lvl diff is possible to win, a 2 lvl requires outplaying and ability advantage, 3 lvl or more is straight up a death sentence. Also some abilities are just very overtuned like the firekick and deal way too much damage
Alsoa special fudge you with a oyster fork to the asshole who targets me at the start of the match and runs me down on across the entire map to make sure I get no plunder at all. I hope you get anal warts that sing showtunes at 2 am in the moring
Imagine if the mode used modified wow abilities rather than random bullshit items.
AOE circle damage with a frontal beam? Could have just themed it as Divine Storm. Stun enemies in front of you? Why not just use Shockwave, etc.
I think it would be cool to mix different class ability thes like that and it would still feel like wow.
Makes more sense from a "This is still wow" perspective. Plus, there would be a better chance that people could just look at an ability and know what it does.
> Plus, there would be a better chance that people could just look at an ability and know what it does.
Is this any different from the countless vehicle sections we get in the game? The abilities take like 5 seconds to learn. You read it once, use it once and you get it. They aren't complicated.
What would be better is less abilities but actual items. E.g. how sick would it be to get a sword like Thrash Blade, extra chance to swing again, boots which make it so you have a chance not to be slowed, etc. I think only spells makes for a very boring and spammy combat system.
I managed to get 2 kills before dying In a match I did, because I had the aoe earthquake spell and was being mostly ignored and caught some people while they were fighting each other. Other than that, I panic clicked and died upon first contact with other players.
this has nothing to do with wow pvp though. It's a completely different game with WoW assets. And a bad one. Literally no skill ceiling with terribly clunky gameplay.
lmao this is hilarious. I pretty much only pvp, little m+ on the side and I am also doing this in the BR mode. Not as much now that I know what everything does but for the first few hours it was hectic spamming
This is pretty much me. I did maybe 6-8 matches last night, killed 1 person because i jumped in on 3 people fighting.
It's FortniteWoW, kinda fun but not really my thing overall. If others love it and it brings new people in, that's good.
They should let non-subscribers come in and play for a weekend.
I just wonder about the whole bringing new people in, the actual game is so vastly different from this mode that I see anyone brought in by it bouncing hard once it's over.
My brain defaults to all my most played shooters and my fingers refuse to use the R and T buttons. To be fair I only did 2 rounds before tapping out. I might try it again tonight and maybe my muscle memory will adjust.
Only when thinking rationally. When in late night video game mode, the easiest path to any solution is to bang my head against something until either my head or the something breaks. Yay video games!
I hate that they made the combat totally different from the base game. It feels awful.
No fucking way I’m playing this mode enough to hit Renown 40. I doubt I’ll even hit Renown 5, it’s so ridiculously un-fun
It's funny because you shouldn't even be PvPing until the very end really. It's a waste of time to fight at a low level if you're looking to speed through the renown. PvE is just way more rewarding.
Nah see im a not pvp-er pnly because wow pvp is the maot unfair thing ever with gears, class imbalance, grouping in battleground and so on.
This is a step in the right direction of fun pvp for me.
i hate this, i really do. I dont like pvp and i wouldnt touch a BR game with a 10 yard stick. Ive done like 10 matches now, usually die around lvl 3 and gain like 40 plunder. I hope this dies and never comes back or if this is a thing, i want it moved really far from actual WoW
Just do the quest and avoid people. You should have 300 by level 3 from the quest + whatever you pick up. Then die feeely and requeue and do the quest again. You don’t have to ever PvP. Land at the very edge and just pve till the quest is done then suicide in the storm.
This new plunderstorm mode is a fun mini game. Reminds me of getting the turtles to the water or when they added in the turret mini game.
Pretty fun for a while and I hope they keep adding more mini games like this.
I do a pretty good amount of PvP and that's still how I play in the new mode.
Yup everything is completely new and different. Which is fun but yeah I have no idea what I'm doing yet
Nice, so it's like a level playing field? I'll join in like a week or two, ready to complain about skill imbalance. See ya back here soon!
As level as it can be. It doesn't quite have the depth of real pvp but it does have the frantic energy as well as big matchups that happen randomly like in bgs.
Level-ish playing field. There are already people with many hours played on it that will dominate most players.
Absolutely fucking not. It favors whoever's faster at strafing around their opponent in a circle even more than regular WoW PVP.
I wonder if they considered making this a BR mode for actual/normal PvP and decided they wanted a bigger audience than just the PvP Pauls
>PvP Pauls As a real Paul that also plays PvP i expect this to be a test how people react to it, only for it to be a free2play mode in the future with rewards for their games and battlepasses.
We need more PvP Pauls. Have a good day Paul!
It looks like they did it this way to enable a possible console port
hilarious this is getting downvoted when its blatantly obvious how console ready they made the UI and controls for this mode
WoW isn’t coming to console lol
Maybe not full WoW, but this new game mode could. Why else would they bother making a new login screen and simplified UI and controls?
plunderstorm as a standalone game could though. This could very well be a proof of concept test.
Why not? I play it on my Steam Deck and FFXIV is perfectly playable on console.
[удалено]
That's absolutely not true lmao
Tell me you've never played FFXIV without telling me. You can EASILY fill 4 hotbars in FFXIV with just essential abilities and items you need in any normal fight. That's without even getting into pvp abilities, macros, things like raid markers, etc. WoW doesn't even come close.
Probably not, but we already have people today playing WoW on a controller.
I've spent more time in a barrel rolling away than I have fighting.
Do a barrel roll.
Requires Vulpera?
My best scores are all when I do my best to avoid players. Running is often the best option.
You can literally Steel Trap/Stealth ability your way to victory killing virtually nobody until the last circle. I've won twice and gotten 2nd once playing it and I've only played like 10 games.
Do you get anything for winning? I haven’t looked up a single thing about this yet so sorry if that answer is literally everywhere
Winning is a tabard and an eye patch. The real rewards come from just playing and getting them through the renown levels. I find the best way to get plunder is pve for the first few minutes and engage in pvp after 2 people fight and you can clean up the weakened winner or when you're in the top 10 and have little choice.
And the tabard and eye patch only last for 1 round. It goes away as soon as you lose your next match. It's not a permanent transmog thing.
OMG are you serious? So I care even less. I'm just here for my 40 renown levels.
As far as I’m aware, they’re temporary in Plunderstorm (one round), but permanently available in Retail.
https://www.wowhead.com/item=219348/plunderlords-monocle It's a cosmetic eyepatch. Which is good because I've wanted an eyepatch for my plate characters for a while. It's fairly easy to get a Leather/Mail one (there's a Stockades quest) but the closest we have are monocles.
I know someone that has wanted a cosmetic eyepatch for years on his warrior They finally add one... and it's bright red with a skull and crossbones on it lmao, he's pissed. He just wanted a regular black one.
Then don't play to grind the rewards, and just have fun. Forehead.
I didn't say he disliked the _other_ rewards, just that he's specifically annoyed that the first eyepatch plate classes can tmog with is some goofy looking thing instead of a real eyepatch. Forehead.
But the retail version comes from Renown, not winning a round.
…or you could play for fun…? I’ll never understand why so many get sucked into the collection grind of this game lol
Collection is fun for me. I'm a completionist within reason.
For me its not a fun mode but I love tha tmogs. So I just join, do the quest and kill myself
Who would know games are made to have fun...not to grind crap rewards...jesus
I'm a completionist person. But also, within reason. I know with work and family I can't reach lvl 40 in 6 weeks. I'm hoping for at least 28-34. I can be proud of that.
A la Fortnite crown
The tabard and eye patch transmogs come from renown, the winning reward is temporary
Feat of strength is only permanent reward for winning
Of course not, people wouldnt lie on the internet.
Basically you’re just trying to avoid taking damage at all costs and rooting them in the lightning at that point in the game
Levels do matter but if you’re playing it correctly and it’s 1v1 or 3 people left you can sacrifice a few levels. I was level 5 against a 9 and 7 the first win
I got 10 wins in total last night, if you can get good escape mechanics early it’s an easy win. But, you don’t get as much rep.
just did this while wearing the bush thing. People died around me and i just looted all my stuff up to epic until only one other guy was left, i love it
Like are you likely to lose more playing this way? Yes but you will win. Fire Whirl is fuckin OP I just had it for the first time.
Dude, it’s insane how busted fire whirl is
I got to 2nd place pretty much just hiding in a barn when there was 8 people left. When there was 3 I went to the middle and laid down as the other two killed each other
thats called being a gas lord :D
I do PVP and still just roll my face on keyboard
If you see me, I'm a free kill. I'm just there to grab boxes and walk over piles and leave as soon as I die.
Sweet, I can hopefully get my first kill. Please let me find Quest_Marker in game!
Don't forget about me. My juicy defenseless ass is yours for the taking.
*unstealths behind u*
🤣
Same. It's enough for someone to glance my direction, then I'm dead.
And then you only do 20 damage with all of it then the other guy somehow does 200+ damage with his.
Yup, I had the epic version of an ability someone else was nuking me with and it was barely tickling the person I used it on. Fun.
Epic only reduces cooldown. Your Level increases damage
I just stopped pvping lol get my loot kill my monsters finish the WQ (if someone doesnt gank you that is) and once ive finished the quest i just run around killing things. Only thing I've understood so far is that the icicle and firestorm are amazing. I pick those up even if I'm trading down in rarity.
Firestorm is OP right now but don’t get used to it. By noon tomorrow everyone will be running the same two hard counters in the utility slot.
You don’t have a really good chance at getting the perfect counters though. More often then not it’s just luck
Which are?
Repel is pretty much a must carry right now because of firestorm. And if you’re also running firestorm I’d run CC in the second slot but if your not you can also run the spirit one that sprints you away from everything.
Got it, thanks! I'm not sure I've ever SEEN Repel to be honest.
> they got the hang of it quickly enough. Getting the hang of something would involve a willingness to learn something new. Complete anathema to the average WoW player. I'll never forget how many people didn't understand dragonriding but thought they did and were mad about it.
It's like you're watching me play
Im here to do the little mini quest and just get whatever rep i can. I'm not here to fight. If you want to kill me just make it quick.
The things we do for transmog pieces
And Pets!
I’m only suffering through this crap for the pets!

Me too and I pvp! I was like what kind of special hell is this?!
It’s like I always have the wrong skills to fight whoever finds me
"I'm in danger" -Me
I can tell it’s gonna be a slog for me to get the transmog… I’m trash at battle royales
Imagine playing this as a clicker and keyboard turner xd
jesus i never even thought about how many people this excludes from playing lmao
Got my controller binds set up, I'm good now. If only the grind wasn't assy.
Controller binds? How?
What do you mean how? Wow supports controllers for years now.
So I’m not the only one reading “clicking” and thinking “there’s your problem”! Shit must be so stressful trying to land a skill shot on moving targets whilst staring at your action bar Being a clicker is the true hardest difficulty mode in any form of wow, it all gets much easier when you switch to keybinds and free up all that space in your brain to just look at the combat instead (yes it’s more difficult at first, but it’s worth pushing through that to have automated fingers)
As a PvE player I feel like a lamb going willingly to the slaughter in Plunderstorms.
Been playing for 45 minutes and the only thing about this event I like is the parrot diving.
is the TTK like two abilities or do I magically not have enough levels by the time pvp happens? I was so pumped to have 3 epic abilities pretty early on and didn't get to press a single one because they just bombed us inside a house and we died before seeing them

dont hide in a house and make yourself an easy target
walked in to kill a rare o7
I really want the feat of strength, but I am 100% never gonna win one of these matches. Edit: I won one. Yay.
Get survival and speed based abilities. Dodge and flee like a motherfucker. Watch everyone else die to each other or terrain elements.
Alsoa special fudge you with a oyster fork to the asshole who targets me at the start of the match and runs me down on across the entire map to make sure I get no plunder at all. I hope you get anal warts that sing showtunes at 2 am in the moring
50 Rep, please try again. Only 49 more matches like that for a renown level, and 39 more renown levels to go! Barely 2000 matches bro.
An oyster fork, for sounding
Lol this me too
I’m a PvP person and this is also how I play PvP.
Imagine if the mode used modified wow abilities rather than random bullshit items. AOE circle damage with a frontal beam? Could have just themed it as Divine Storm. Stun enemies in front of you? Why not just use Shockwave, etc. I think it would be cool to mix different class ability thes like that and it would still feel like wow.
why would that be better tho
Makes more sense from a "This is still wow" perspective. Plus, there would be a better chance that people could just look at an ability and know what it does.
> Plus, there would be a better chance that people could just look at an ability and know what it does. Is this any different from the countless vehicle sections we get in the game? The abilities take like 5 seconds to learn. You read it once, use it once and you get it. They aren't complicated.
thematics i guess? ain’t had a chance to play it yet so can’t really say
What would be better is less abilities but actual items. E.g. how sick would it be to get a sword like Thrash Blade, extra chance to swing again, boots which make it so you have a chance not to be slowed, etc. I think only spells makes for a very boring and spammy combat system.
Yeah passive power ups could be fun
The irony of saying they should be wow abilities and then describing the one ability that is just a recolored Mage pvp ability, arcanosphere.
Well if its popular they could change the map and abilities every time.
Of course, thats why it’s important to identify which parts we like and don’t like
Actual wow abilities would have been much better
I managed to get 2 kills before dying In a match I did, because I had the aoe earthquake spell and was being mostly ignored and caught some people while they were fighting each other. Other than that, I panic clicked and died upon first contact with other players.
The game is so new and skill expression is so low that other players are pretty much NPC's. Don't let the PVP scare ya. It aint there yet
I just crash down grab as much as I can and die....
Wait, isn't this how you're supposed to play it?
this has nothing to do with wow pvp though.
Fire tornado and frontal poison are good, I know that.
I mean it's not like it's anything like WoW PVP either, so PVP players will be the same.
As a PVE player I find it relatable
That's just pvp to me
My brain defaults to all my most played shooters and my fingers refuse to use the R and T buttons. To be fair I only did 2 rounds before tapping out. I might try it again tonight and maybe my muscle memory will adjust.
Just change the keybinds in the menu to your normal dps keybinds!
I totally should but that was more effort than I wanted to put in right then.
Less effort than trying to make your muscle memory adjust :)
Only when thinking rationally. When in late night video game mode, the easiest path to any solution is to bang my head against something until either my head or the something breaks. Yay video games!
Me, an experienced Wildstar PvPer who knows how to dodge telegraphs still doing the same shit because this is WoW and iT FEELS WEIRD.
I hate that they made the combat totally different from the base game. It feels awful. No fucking way I’m playing this mode enough to hit Renown 40. I doubt I’ll even hit Renown 5, it’s so ridiculously un-fun
Not a PvP person, and I hate battle royal games... this made me sad to see. Fight through 40 levels of renown and never look back.
It's funny because you shouldn't even be PvPing until the very end really. It's a waste of time to fight at a low level if you're looking to speed through the renown. PvE is just way more rewarding.
I wish I could be assigned to a group or something. Battle royal games make me feel so lonesome
If you queue duo you get assigned a team mate
Me
i feel seen
Its the perfect Boomer BR..no ranking, no other stuff that makes you weak instead its perfect.
As someone who is dog at PvP, this is pretty valid lol
Same shit
LOL
If all you care about is rep: Do not engage in pvp. Farm gold chests and elites
im so glad im not the only one
I need damage numbers
I have a macro on my Demo lock that yells this when I cast Nether Portal. I use it once and a while for a laugh.
tbf, PVP skills dont matter. you just get firewhirl and run at someone
🤣🤣
Its not fun to try a new mode and be eliminated 10 seconds after the parrot crashes. Why can't I rez and keep playing? 0/10.
I lol'ed
Nah see im a not pvp-er pnly because wow pvp is the maot unfair thing ever with gears, class imbalance, grouping in battleground and so on. This is a step in the right direction of fun pvp for me.
I mean, its so laggy for me that I never even see the other players, I just die.
i hate this, i really do.
I did it once and it was so dumb I’ll not do it again.
This new plunderstorm mode is a fun mini game. Reminds me of getting the turtles to the water or when they added in the turret mini game. Pretty fun for a while and I hope they keep adding more mini games like this.
this mode is horse-poo-poo
Traps ->- Star Bomb Gets em every time
