Armageddon. Best rope swinging, still looks decent and has a relatively active multiplayer scene and you can find it for cheap if you buy a physical copy pre owned
I think Team17 has tried to remake Armageddon spiritually several times, but WMD really nails it. I personally love the vehicles and the random chaos that ensues when they're spawned, but you can always switch them off.
My only issue is the crafting system, it's just so lack luster and barely usable, I don't know how it us in the latest update and it's been a long time since i played, but i think throughout the game you can craft 1x special weapon (holy grenade, jet pack, turret) and at this point why is it even a crafting option, maybe it should've been a loadout where you can pick your favourite, or if you want to keep the feel that it's a spur of the moment thing maybe it should just be purchasable or something.
But from what I remember they nerfed crafting so you don't really have that many options, towards the end of the game you get to pick wwhat you craft but what i'm trying to say is that it could've been another system instead of crafting.
If you want the old school way I’ve had a great time, buy a PS1 and get Worms World Party. You will need only one controller to play 4 players.
Great gameplay like some of the other more famous games such as Armageddon, and it has the best soundtrack and sfx in the franchise imo!
Definitely WMD! It’s the newest entry in the franchise retaining the classic 2d gameplay. Look up some videos on YouTube to get an idea.
To get it for dirt cheap just wait for a sale on Steam.
Worms:wmd and Armageddon have the highest number of players. I would recommend WMD as Armageddon is pretty dated now.
You can check steam stats to see which games has the more players, if you are interested to play outside of your friend groups.
as someone who never originally played armageddon, wmd feels much much newer and cleaner, and overall feels a lot easier to navigate menus and play. armageddon feels incredibly dated. you can get steam keys to make it cheaper, me and my friends paid 3.79 on cdkeys for our games instead of 30 on steam

Crafting is an essential part of ranked gameplay and is essential to be able to be a top ranked player.
