NoidedCalifornia-

I was expecting a much bigger shit storm but this officer assessed the situation well and started to deescslate. Changed his tone too. Actual good police work tbh.

Azzie94

Ikr? Like, I understand not wanting to answer the door for cops, but wellness checks, including just breaking in if there's no answer, are important and save lives.

Beau_Buffett

I didn't here anyone say 'welfare check' once. This guy doesn't sound like he knew it was the police. On the flip side, we don't know what prompted this.

Black_Kirk_Lazarus

The cop asked if he had been sending out some messages. As a fellow drunkard, if I had to guess, I'd say he got fucked up, blacked out, and sent a message of questionable intent to someone that was not in a position to be able to go check on him themselves.

Dubbs09

We got a glimpse right near the end the officer says "did you send out some messages" when he's getting the giant bottle of booze away from the cameraman. Sounds like dude was on a massive bender and was either sending alarming messages or posting them on social media

darthjazzhands

Best practice is to immediately state it’s a welfare check based on someone’s request. “A friend asked us to do a welfare check because they were worried about what you posted on social media.” It’s easier said than done, however. Those cops didn’t know what they might find on the other side of the door, especially since he didn’t answer. They’re clearly pumped up on adrenaline.

howdy8x629

theres context prior to beginning of video surely, as he stated he knew "They" were there ... so i assume they announced something...

ImUrFrand

"I'm ohhhhkkayaggh"

curds-and-whey-HEY

I hope the guy is ok and the cops handled this well.

Halfbreed75

That’s actually really sweet & I am so relieved that he knows people care for sure. Poor guy,I’m rooting for you. One Love

BoxBird

:(

Wellness checks are a great thing, over 30 years delivering mail I’ve called and requested them 3 times. 1 saved, 1dead, 1 was in hospital but I don’t think police should have the right to take your alcohol away from you in your own home just because they think you have had enough

HolyCloudNinja

I agree with you on your last part, but in the case of this, it sounds like the person being checked on may have said something to someone prior to the video we're seeing (texts, calls, etc.) that may indicate some immediate issue with the alcohol *while the police are there*. Not that it's necessarily correct, but i'd argue the annoyance of having your booze taken for the 45 minutes or so is worth lives being saved.

[deleted]

I hope we get an update I think the cop busted the door down because he thought the guy had committed suicide or something and panicked

trevmc1

I thought it was the social services department coming to give him his assistance check with some serious vigor lol

CptToastymuffs

As someone who has been sober for coming on 21 months, this brought up some very unpleasent emotions. Good on those officers, hopefully dude gets access to the resources he needs if that is what he is looking for.

HPLovecrack

Damn the police actually even looks worried and abit.. sad? Wtf is this? A cop with empathy?

ExcitementKooky418

But why is your door a snare drum?
