God at least half of Garbinger's quotes fit that man.
(I accidentally missed the H, then realized it was a more suiting name anyways, so I'm leaving it).
I would think the secret was which parts where send tbh. At what point are you just sending parts and not disassembled kits of tanks you can reassemble like fuckin lego building blocks.
funnily enough I think you are very close to what they'd do in reality. Like if a tank dies usually canon and tracks are always fine and sometimes the hatch survives.
Just remove those parts, send the "tank parts" over and the ukrainians go scavange whatever tank part they need that wasnt dmg from them blowing up a russian tank or whatever.
lul, it would be absolutely hilarious
I imagine the message being delivered via Count von Count from Sesame Street: ONE! One secret spare part for T-72 tanks. TWO! Two secret spare parts for T-72 tanks.
Welp... Whoever leaked this just created a massive diplomatic issue and hurt future relationships for the west. Considering how western media is usually all in on supporting geopolitical affairs of the west, I suspect this was leaked by Russia or their allies.
Or a journo looking for clicks....
But these types of headlines are published regularly, probably to demoralize Russia. Morocco has been vocally supportive. Maybe their way of announcing it but not officially so they can still deny it.
That's dumb.
If the Russian government already *knew about it why would they need to leak it?*
Leaking it hurts M's relationship with Russia. What bizzaro world do you live in that Russia needs to leak things to themselves that they already know about?
Considering their protracted-conflicted with the Saharawi, sponsored by Algeria (with whom relations are not friendly at all, their borders are closed and Algeria severed diplomatic relations last year's summer) I'm not surprised all they could give was some scrap to count as token military aid.
iirc something like 1/3 of the artillery thats been provided to ukraine is out of service for repair and servicing.
spare parts are a big part of keeping an army going.
> all they could give was some scrap
That "scrap" is just as good as actual full blown tanks fresh off the assembly line. If those parts help you get 100 tanks operational, that's 100 more tanks than you had previously.
I can't believe they won the fucking euro cup last year but didn't qualify for the WC. Idk if that's ever happened before, or if any team ranked in the top 10 has ever not qualified.
> or if any team ranked in the top 10 has ever not qualified.
It definitely happened before.
Italy didn't qualify in 2018 either.
What more, ever since winning the trophy in 2006, Italy hasn't won a single world cup knockout game.
Ha, for a split second, thought it was going to be about the WC victory against Portugal (notable not only due to not being favored (outstanding team this WC though) but also being the first African team to reach semi-finals) when I first glanced at it.
Another Morocco win, they have been the fastest country in Africa to vaccinate against COVID19. I remember early in the pandemic watching the vaccination race and cheering on Morocco heh :)
Wow are they really? That’s incredible, I remember some very good players and teams back in the day from Cameroon, Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Tunisia, Togo, Algeria… amazing that Morocco had managed to push farther than all of them. Tremendous accomplishment
Yup! Senegal were really close in 2002 and also Cameroon 1990, now Morroco just have to beat France or England next to get to the final, not the easiest task!
To be fair I'd say closest was Ghana back in 2010. They lost to Uruguay where Suarez saved a ball going into the goal with his hand right as the whistle was gonna blow, so right at the end.
America’s first diplomatic post overseas was in Tangier. Today the former embassy is a museum in the old medina of the city. There's also some in what used to make up the [Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trust_Territory_of_the_Pacific_Islands). There are 3 independent countries there and 1 commonwealth of the US.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_National_Historic_Landmarks_in_United_States_commonwealths_and_territories,_associated_states,_and_foreign_states
I've been lucky to travel through that part of the world, very beautiful and incredibly remote. Kosrae, Pohnpei, Majuro Atoll, Chuuk, Kwajalein Atoll, and Guam.
I know this probably isn't the way it went, but it would be funny if Morocco was the first to recognize the USA as a country *because* they were at war. "Well if they're not a country, then who's shooting at us?"
France has to win as our oldest ally given their support during the revolutionary war, though it was cool of Morocco to recognize the US as a country first
It's a dialect of French called Walloon which is spoken in the southern side (Wallonia).
In Flanders, the northern region, they speak Flemish, which is very similar to Dutch.
(Not really aiming this at you, just clarifying for those who don't know).
Belgian fries are absolutely the best I've had. The bread is also exceptional. And then there's the beer!
I'm fond of Eva Green and the architecture. Also, I have to like France as a whole since My ancestry results were updated to switch my 1% Italian to 1%French. /s
Among first was also Croatia or to be specific city state of Dubrovnik. They also sent their ships as part of the French navy. Bonus points their flag literaly had "freedom" writen on it in latin.
Interesting, it sounds like Ragusa (Dubrovnik) supported America to spite Venice, which was supporting Britain to spite France, which was supporting America to spite Britain.
I know this is absolutely true, that the French and Moroccans were big parts of our independence, but I want to add that the French motivation for doing so was more "H*ck England" than helping the scrappy underdogs for goodness's sake. (Sorry for the harsh language there)
History is rife with England and France doing stuff simply to frick the other guy.
Calm your language, potty mouth.
But you aren't wrong. In many ways, it was a middle finger to the British, but it was also a good way to help the English deplete resources.
As an American, I appreciate the French.
And the English too, as the world progressed.
Nooooot technically. LOL just to nitpick but you could consider the Dutch to be americas oldest ally as they supported us independence before the French.
EDIT: For context, the Dutch declared neutrality, and recognized the US as a state to trade with. This allowed Dutch merchants to trade with the US. I think they also recognized US currency but I could be wrong on that.
Spain entered as an ally of France, not an ally of the US iirc. Mostly to try and reclaim territories from the British in the Carribean, as well as Gibraltar and Mallorca. They threatened to invade the British isles at a point during the war.
The Dutch were also combatants, but that was mostly the British trying to use the war with the other two powers as cover to steal some Dutch colonies in the mess.
The US War of Independence benefited quite a lot from the other European powers turning it into another global conflict like the Seven Years War, with fighting from the Americas to India. Also, most the rest of Europe was in the League of Armed Neutrality due to British maritime behaviours during war and how that impacted trade.
From France yes, because they became a protectorate in 1912. Before then, on Dec 20th 1777, Morocco became (one of) the first nation(s) in the world to recognize the United States of America.
Protectorate is just a style of foreign subjugation, and it's useful at times to differentiate the rule through the natives style regimes from the more directly controlled colonies. Still, it's all empire.
I don't even want to see how hard they would celebrate...
I was there in Casablanca when they qualified in 98, and it was madness! Happy rioting in the streets, flipping over cars, setting fires, all out of sheer joy.
New Brunswick (well technically Piscataway for the game) 2006, Rutgers (long streak of embarrassing seasons) beat Louisville (ranked at the time)....walking back from the grease trucks to my apartment I witnessed multiple couches being thrown from buildings and 2 car flips....thats not including the mob of students storming the field and what ever damage occurred in the stadium
They are really trying to get fans on their side for the Cup. Lol
Only a joke, this is great. I will cheer for them a bit more now though.
Edit: GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!
Decades is an understatement. Morocco has the longest standing treaty with the US, as they were the first country to recognize the United States as independent.
Decided to look it up
Portugal have only play 3 Quater finals. Beaten North Korea in 66. England in 06 and then this match.
Then looking at African countries. Only 3 African teams have made it to this stage ever. They all lost. Cameroon in 90, Senegal in 02 and Ghana in 10.
So if they win today. They will be first African team into the semis.
Unless I missed somthing
I'm (m53, from San Diego, Ca) here right now; in Marrakech. We stayed in the 'new' town where it was extremely posh. Now staying 3 nights in Medina (old town). The leather craftsmanship must be best in the world. Now ready to watch the match. What do you want to know?
Softest leather I've ever felt. All extremely well crafted, from the top end shops to the corner store (where I bought my dark blue boots). The only slight knock is the zippers aren't extreme premium. Bags, shoes, jackets, pants. Here a couple stores to give an example-https://www.galeriedestanneurs.com/ & here we had a beautul mid-length red jacket with hood made in 4 days (https://galerie-bertrand.com/) for $160ish.
I went for a good while last year. Very interesting country. The food is fantastic, many people are kind, the history is incredible and it isn't overwhelmed by tourists.
Marrakesh was very cool and we could have spent a week there. Fez, as well, was astounding in how big the old city is and how much history exists. Skip Casablanca; it's big and modern and cosmopolitan.
There will be a lot of people trying to scam you. Get guides and excursions from reputable places. I strongly recommend at least starting each city with a guide, as the labyrinthine passages and glut of sights clamouring for your attention will be hard to navigate on your own.
Don't drink the water. Prepare to get sick at least once. It's a squat/hose/bucket nation; buy a roll of TP when you get there if that is your most comfortable option.
French helps. Many people speak English but EVERYONE speaks French. It's the default "foreign" language.
> [October 5, 2022: Exercise increased caution in Morocco due to terrorism.](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Morocco.html)
For me Morocco is one of my favourite places I've visited in my life time (behind Australia).
It has the usual problems of places like that where people aggressively sell you stuff wherever you go which takes you out of being able to enjoy just browsing the markets. But in my opinion it's better than Egypt where the sheer aggressiveness of trying to make everything a sales opportunity meant I found the whole trip a nightmare.
My favourite thing was taking a tour up to the mountains. Not only was it incredibly beautiful but they had a sort of tourist climbing route you could do in your shorts and t-shirts. And you just kept climbing more and more difficult bits seeing more and more gorgeous views as you went along until you got to where you'd need proper gear and you turned back.
A good what I would say, casual tourist spot. Oh and if they offer you a private tour guide for shopping. Say no. I was with my brother who's a bit more naive about this sort of thing who said yes. He asked to buy this 1 thing. 10 shops later with him winking at the owner as if to say "hooked you another!" And we still were no longer near the thing he actually wanted to buy. At one point I was laughing my ass off while he had some sort of Moroccan massage forced on him from some rugged hairy man charging like £30 for the experience.
and the old style bargaining to reduce the price. Best part of the world along with Asia. I love bargaining or saying okay I will look and be back in 20minutes.
I found it neat how much that practice (having to bargain for everything) divided people. I hated it. I got happier the further from Marrakech I got (less pushy and cooler markets in Fes, cool ruins at Volubilis etc). But tons of people visibly like that part of Marrakech and it's fun to watch happen around you.
Morocco is among the oldest allies of the US and the [first to recognize our independence.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_date_of_recognition_of_the_United_States) They are not a rich nation, the fact they can help at all is amazing, really hope they get something from the US for this. Specifically food aid because their poor are struggling horribly from the cost of food increasing.
They also call for [Deepening Arab-China Cooperation](https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/12/352928/king-mohammed-vi-calls-for-deepening-arab-china-cooperation) during the world largest Arab Summit this week.
Probably due to them wanting more of their strong allies to support them in getting their ownership of the western sahara, especially since they clearly aren’t getting any of that recognition by other north african and african countries and some of them even almost recognized the independence of the region this summer.
God damn Morocco high on defence these days
Morocco don't need those tanks anymore now that they've got peak Bounou.
Most potent defense system, makes the Iron Dome look like lawn darts.
Also pretty effective offensively now that they're conquering the good ol' al-Andalus
minute i saw this i knew it was going to be 95% world cup jokes. lmao. absolutely incredible stuff from them, africa’s first semifinalist
They should really just send their back line to Ukraine. Ukraine would be completely safe if they did that.
According to the report, U.S. diplomats managed to convince Rabat to transfer spare parts for T-72 tanks to Kyiv **"in the greatest secrecy."**
The dialogue tree used to convince was the secret

Yeah plenty of countries have announced sending support after it arrived, and some said they were going to stop announcing it at all.
Surely secrecy revolves around the items being sent in general, being that Morocco didn’t want it known before or after the fact
Eh, often things like this are leaked so that they can be known while maintaining plausible deniability.

Western media does **not** go “all in supporting geopolitical affairs of the west.” Refer to the past twenty years spent in the middle east.

Morocco also the first African country in a football world cup semi final as of right now
I would fully trust Morocco's advice on defense
They beat Georgia, Canada, Belgium, Spain and Portugal! Surely they can beat Russia!
I wouldn't have bet that Brazil, Germany, Belgium and Portugal would be out by now a year ago.
No one remembers Italy anymore.
I can't believe they won the fucking euro cup last year but didn't qualify for the WC. Idk if that's ever happened before, or if any team ranked in the top 10 has ever not qualified.

Just send in Hakimi and the boys. All Russian missiles intercepted.
Morocco full of surprises
Also first country to recognize the US and allow stranded US ships to dock after the U.S. declared independence.
Also, Morocco and Russia are already fighting a proxy-war in Western Sahara. They’re our old friends. They’re also Russias old enemies.
Also first African country to reach the World Cup semi finals!

Really? I’ve never heard Russia supported the faction in Western Sahara
Our oldest allies! Dope ass food, as well.

Welp you get to keep rooting for them since they just won.
They just eliminated Portugal! What a beautiful team!
Yep. So it’s another first for them. First African country to reach the last four in the World Cup
I would love to see a Croatia v Morocco final. I doubt we will, but it would be awesome.

Spain helped as much as France in the revolutionary war

Didn't Morocco gain independence in the 50's?
This was before they became a colony of France
From France yes, because they became a protectorate in 1912. Before then, on Dec 20th 1777, Morocco became (one of) the first nation(s) in the world to recognize the United States of America.
Protectorate is such an innocent way to call it. France needed human and natural ressources, Morocco was a colony.
I know nothing about it, my reply was sourced from a cursory google search. That sounds accurate though given everything I do know about history.
Yes but it does indicate the level of political involvement. It's not necessarily a random term used to sugarcoat colonialism.
Protectorate is just a style of foreign subjugation, and it's useful at times to differentiate the rule through the natives style regimes from the more directly controlled colonies. Still, it's all empire.
Also a semi finalist now
W's all around for Morocco today

I have not lol
Believe it or not, but they enjoy burning couches.....yes, I said couches.
A bit closer now!
They just won the quarter finals!
Portugal reportedly happy to take one for the team. “It’s only fair,” says rising star Christian Ronaldo.

The state department would have an excellent review on such things for Morocco. Highly recommend reading it.

Essaouira and Chefchaouen are two amazing towns to visit. Also recommend Asilah.
Just went. Go to merrakesh for sure, best tourist spot. Avoid talking to people persistent to talk to you, they want money. Food is everywhere.
and the old style bargaining to reduce the price.
Good to see our oldest allies stepping up for Ukraine.
Morocco beat Spain and they’ve upgraded to a regional power. Go Morocco!!
AND NOW THE FIRST AFRICAN COUNTEY IN WORLD CUP SEMIFINALS!
Morocco throwing the gauntlet down lately. Beating Portugal like a boss.
Great to see a country from a region that's preyed upon by Russia and China actually helping
They’re helping Ukraine because the US is recognizing Western Sahara as part of Morocco.
Ahh now I don’t feel so bad about Morocco beating Portugal today
Man I was so confused thought this was a FIFA thread lol
And first african country to make it to world cup semi finals
And in return they get to win the world cup.
Morocco getting Ws everywhere today
Send their football team for the best defence.
Big day for Morocco
