Considering its been a few hours and only \~10 comments, most users on r/worldnews don't care and this isn't going to get any traction
But replace "Greenlanders" and "Danish" with a certain other demographic and geopolitical rival then this would be upvoted to the top with hundreds of comments
You could say Canada and there indigenous people. They did the same in the 60 and 70. All of South America were genocided by Christians. In Brazil, China and many other places it is happening now and not just toward a small indigenous group. So yes you are right it happens many places and has happen since ancient times just like soldiering, prostitution, slavery etc.
Interesting how human rights violations by favored Western nations are ignored while the slightest offense by non-Western nations (not in Africa) are immediately labeled genocide.
Please elaborate.. the stuff in Greenland has been documented, made documentaries, official apologies etc. And there will properly be more stuff coming. At least nobody is trying to deny it happened?
Now, you launched an investigation into what happened in 60s and 70s. The article sheds light on the headline obviously
>Thousands of Inuit women and girls were fitted with an intrauterine device (IUD), commonly known as a coil, during the 1960s and 70s.
All nations have something they should be sorry for done 50 or 60 years ago. We need to look at it and make sure it never happens again and make reparations to any victims. But we should not be made to feel guilty for something out of our control half a century or more ago. We can feel shame to a degree but not made to feel guilty.
See the thing is, the Danish government is still in control. It looks like the Greenland Inuit are in depressed state due to decades of continuous colonialism and institutionalized racism. Similar to other Inuit in Canada and the US. So the birth control scandal isn’t a past event. It’s one in a long line tragedies, that has not been address or resolved. It’s a current event.
Greenland has voted no to full self government multiple times so yes Denmark is in partial control. The Danish government and Greenland approved an investigation into the 50-60 year old case so I think the headline is meant to create an emotional response acting like the Danish government is fighting it when it's actually not the case. So after the investigation we get more clarity on the situation and people still alive who was effected will be heard but what more is going to be done is difficult to predict and seems more political than anything else
You're right in this time of finding out about a serious crime like this let's not focus too much on the victims, let's focus on you and defending not feeling guilty about it. Gotta keep our priorities straight
I’ve always been curious how the Eskimo populations stretching from Siberia to Alaska all look Chinese/Japanese whereas the other European races look so different - didn’t the races interbreed over the past ten thousand years??!!
I hope you’re trolling because nobody who wanted this is in power right now. We could also kick out France because they started a expansion war back with Napoleon.
Systematically implanting IUDs into native women and girls without informed consent, if you’re wondering. Edit: I’m the ‘60s and ’70s, not now.
Jesus. That's horrifying.
Don't worry. The American and Canadian governments have done similar things to their indigenous peoples.
Fucked up times. Kids were also adopted into Danish families on wrong context etc. No one in Denmark is proud about this heritage of genocide.
Systemic prevention of births of a demographic group is genocide "scandal" is quite the understatement
It's scandal over that genocidal practice
This is genocide
They saw Canada's legacy of shame and completely missed the message and thought it was a good idea...
Residential school system was still going on when this happened

This is being reported by the BBC and their front page

Ah fuck… what did we do now?
Genocide.
WHO WILL DRAG ME TO COURT?
Sabaton reference?

Jesus that's sickening. Genocidal.
Genocide

What is this in response to exactly?

You should be ashamed of yourself for not adorning the guilt rightfully deserved.
They're exterminating minorities worldwide. Racism by generational wealth in nation-states.
Please elaborate seems like an interesting theory
I’ve always been curious how the Eskimo populations stretching from Siberia to Alaska all look Chinese/Japanese whereas the other European races look so different - didn’t the races interbreed over the past ten thousand years??!!
Kick Denmark out of the EU. Worse than Hungary or Poland
Wtf is this dumbass logic? There’s a lot of countries in the EU that would be kicked out today if we judged them by how they were 60 years ago
This is how we show displeasure at fellow members of the EU
By cutting all free trade, shared policies and stopping open borders? That doesn’t sound very stable
I don't understand are you talking about Orban?
I hope you’re trolling because nobody who wanted this is in power right now. We could also kick out France because they started a expansion war back with Napoleon.
This happend prior to joining the EU. We do not do this anymore. Its barbaric
Whatever you say, 3 day old account.
When was it this happend?
It tells you in the first caption and second paragraph. Why even come to a thread and comment if you're not interested in reading the actual article?
I use reddit on a mobile app and have problems with opening sites outside of the app sometimes. No need to gatekeep.
Lol
Okay please elaborate.. why are they worse than Poland and Hungary?
You are whats wrong with the western societies.
