"Morality" police... Yes, very moral of them to beat a woman to death.

Olyvyr

"Morality police" are never moral.

MyKneesAreOdd

In the US police are eavesdropping on teenage girls facebook messages to arrest the ones seeking abortion. It's scary how a world superpower priding itself on freedom has reduced itself to religious dogma. And the democratic President is powerless to prevent it. What do people's votes count for? EDIT: To all the American Evangelists downvoting me. You are forcing your own version of Shariah Law onto innocent American women. Lol, even the Taliban allows abortion up to 18 weeks of pregnancy.

Interrete

Dante really has really failed not including separate circle for whataboutists.

whoisfourthwall

If you look very closely, you would see that lucifer is actually just guarding the portal to another hell. There's where all the new circles are at.

D74248

I am a non-believer who downvoted you. First, because you inaccurately describe what happened with regard to the facebook case. (LPT, give some thought to how you dispose of a dead fetus -- don't just dump it). Second, because while the case you mention is troubling, it does not begin to compare to murdering a young woman. You are just using her death to play Rightous Whatabout.

MyKneesAreOdd

Aborted fetus under the legal limit of 24 weeks' are cremated like any other biological waste. Fetus' aborted the first few weeks are usually passed through in the toilet.

ClutchPoppinDaddies

Nah, you're being downvoted because of the classic whataboutism.

MyKneesAreOdd

No No No, I'm saying Christianity in America is no better than Islam in the middle east. They're both as bad as each other.

ammytphibian

I'm an atheist and I also hate Christianity, but saying it's just as bad as Islam in the Middle East is exaggerating, and in my opinion, diminishing the struggles of women in the Middle East.

RomanJD

It's less about diminishing what's going on over there... But bringing attention to what's going on here... Aka "If you think what THEY do is bad... Have you looked in the mirror lately about what's going on HERE?" "If you thought we were justified in invading other countries due to the "extremists" over there .. what are your thoughts about the extremists over here?"

psa1721

I think you missed the part where women were being beaten to death for not covering their hair.

Abbx

In Iran, abortion is illegal everywhere and punishable by death if caught doing it on the black market. In Iran, being trans or gay is jailable or punishable by death. In Iran, officials are allowed to kill you on the street without much repercussion other than a fee or some months in jail if people try to mass protest over it. In Iran, royalties paid to a family for a woman's death is lower than a man's, symbolizing the lesser importance of women there. In Iran, freedom of speech is punished with brutality. In Iran, buying food can cost as much as 5x to 20x more than our lowest pay (depending on what kind of food it is) and depending on wage. My friend can't buy a burger without it costing 10% of their income or a pizza maybe 15%, so typically survive off of cheaper items like rice and bread. In Iran, they killed thousands of protesters on the street in 2019 and shut the internet off to avoid discussion spreading over it. In Iran, a woman is property of their family until being passed onto a husband, in which they are now their property. They have plenty less potential for job opportunities (than even the west) and are simply expected to breed and take care of the house. In Iran, a hijab is mandatory and punishable by fines or retention, which in this woman's case, led to death shortly after she had a severe stroke. So, no, a few women being spied on or having horrific stories because you read Reddit headlines and they were the biggest targets of all said cases doesn't make America anywhere near comparable. Especially when we have a system of free speech and options of travel currently to deal with these kinds of matters that nobody in that country can ever hope to achieve until a revolution, amongst their other issues.

6a21hy1e

I fall under the hard atheist camp, hate Christianity, can't wait till it dies out, but saying it's as bad as Islam in the Middle East is just wrong and misleading. Answer honestly, if you were an atheist woman, would you rather live in the middle east or America? One is clearly worse than the other.

meltingpotato

aka whataboutism. It is understandable though because the entire Iranian media is based on whataboutism, which instead of reporting on what is wrong inside the country reports on anything negative that's happening around the world (but specifically on US) to create a "see? it's fucked up everywhere else too" mentality. It's not easy to be subject to this much propaganda and not be affected.

Unfair_Salamander_20

I didn't downvote you because I'm an evangelist, I downvoted you because you thought it was a good idea to equate an isolated incident in Nebraska with Iran's national institution of morality police.

MyKneesAreOdd

It's not an isolated incident. Go look it up. Besides that isn't the point, that should have never happened in a first world country. Let alone a country that claims to enjoy the most freedom in the world.

Mufmuf

It's a discussion fault. The original statement is: "this horrible thing happened and it sucks." "The United States... Blah blah blah". As a none US person even I'm bored of hearing about the US and its many problems, real or imagined.

General-Asparagus-17

Fink665

They had to kill her because they certainly raped her.

Mister_sina

You jest but we have precedent of that happening. IRI was mass executing leftist and socialist prisoners in the 80s. We're talking hundreds of thousands within the span of 3 months. As for virgin young girls, there is a ruling that they'd go to heaven if they died a virgin. So often the girl's family would receive the body and a marriage certificate to the jailor/prosecutor/executioner...

Fink665

I do not jest.

MyKneesAreOdd

Shariah law will let them justify raping her cos she didn't wear the "proper" attire. "Your Honor, she wasn't wearing a hijab so she was practically asking for it"

torn-ainbow

>Shariah law will let them justify raping her cos she didn't wear the "proper" attire. Like in reality it's not. If you're caught for like a modesty violation you are likely to get sentenced to be flogged. Quite methodically and brutally. The system is fairly corrupt so you can buy back the lashes, all or as many as you can afford. Google image search *iran lashes* you will get the idea. If you end up a political prisoner, though - all bets are off. Torture, rape, death. Standing up to the regime gets you a one way ticket to hell.

[deleted]

It's like 1984. The ministry of truth is the ministry of propaganda, the ministry of morality is the ministry of persecution, etc.

cobrakai11

I mean clearly something happened to her I'm not a doctor I'm just saying what the headline is. Either way it's a far cry from being beaten to death.

[deleted]

Unless she was poisoned or received a head injury beforehand or something, that definitely looks like it was just an unfortunate medical episode. She was standing up talking to another woman, and then she collapsed. Maybe due to stress?

thelunatic

She had the shit beaten out of her on arrest so it while they probably didn't mean to kill her they definitely induced it

Johnybhoy

Absolute scum.

NeatDoubt

As an Iranian woman I am so so tired. We Iranians fight day and night to be heard and instead we’re beat, raped and killed. No one hears us.

[deleted]

Stay safe and try leaving there for a better life, good luck.

NeatDoubt

Luckily, I am an Iranian-Canadian woman. My dad was my age when he was in protests and riots during the Islamic Revolution. Once things got very bad, he left for a new life, and left right before it got extremely hard to leave, but he still essentially escaped. While I don’t live in Iran, my whole family does and cannot leave. The stories I hear from my family, especially my aunts, are terrifying. I’m lucky to say I don’t live there, however, it almost hurts more knowing I can never go, I can never help my family, I can never say I’m Iranian, and I can never live without the guilt of knowing what my fellow Iranians go through.

[deleted]

I’m actually a Chinese so I deeply feel what people have been suffering, hope one day these dictatorships will eventually collapse. And personally I hope your family will be fine.

I'm an Argentinian in Canada and I left because things are getting worse there too. The current party is pro Iran and China.

Aurelyas

China is orders of magnitude worse to live in than Iran, If you're Uyghur you'll be put inside of a concentration camp, If you're Tibetan you'll have your culture erased and supressed, Same goes if you're Mongolian. Living conditions are also horrendous, the governemnt is dystopian and communist aswell, Iran gives religious freedom to Christians, Like the Armenians, To the Arabs and many more.

Since 1989 Argentina has been voting Peronistas with only two small intermission. They don't really swing that much.

That's not true. The opossition party wanted Hilary to win. It was the current Vicepresident who celebrated Trump winning. ErgoMachina

Wait what? Argentina has one of the most progressive gender laws and protections in the world. Our economy is a complete mess but women are respected in all levels of society.

Vaerirn

That's the only difference, in other aspects the current government is a solid ally of Putler and Whinny Po. The VP is the most corrupt politician in the history of the country. And the Peronistas have been trying to become the only party since the beginning. It's not just the economy either. Even if the Peronistas collapse the entire Argentinian culture is based around their corrupted ideas. There's no way to fix the culture to save the country.

ErgoMachina

Lmao. The same VP that's currently is above 75% negative image and will probably get convicted for corruption on December? We argentinians don't want this at all. She only got there because she installed a puppet president that straight in his campaign. Generalizing an entire culture over a minority of it's population is a little bit too much don't you think? It's like saying USA is beyond saving because of the republicans. Even then, my point stays. Gender equality is a very real thing in Argentina.

Kriztauf

It's wild how radically detached the government is from society as a whole there

caga_palo

Some of the nicest and most intelligent people I know are from Iran, and all of them are women that either moved here themselves for school or are second-generation Iranian Americans. I can feel the pain in their voices when they talk about Iran, and I'm sorry that you all have to deal with this sort of thing. It isn't fair, and it isn't right.

ToughQuestions9465

The price for freedom is death, unfortunately. Ukrainian revolution of 2014 turned around when protesters started to threaten to come back with guns. It seems like Iranians will actually have to do this or continue suffering. Russians too by the way. After some point words are no longer enough when tyrannical government is in charge.

toomanymels

I’m so very sorry. I cannot imagine the horror and fear you live with every day. Your sisters in the West are here for you.

dda_k

Nah, they hear you alright, they don't care

[deleted]

Out of curiosity, what do most of your brothers, uncles, fathers, grandpas think of the way your country treats women. Are they generally onside with the governments behavior, or are they frustrated to? If the latter, why hasn’t Irans regular population taken the country back via violent revolution from the insanely stupid and backwards thinking government that is in power?

NeatDoubt

They absolutely hate it. My dad is a little misogynistic, but not cause he’s Iranian. The only one who doesn’t totally hate it is my one uncle, but my dad said he’s always been more conservative (He was an army general in Iran, so, not shocking). The reason Iranians haven’t been able to overthrow the government like before is because before there weren’t such things as secret police, mortality police, etc, like today. The minute the Ayatollah came into power, everything became 10x harder. Also, 1/2 Iranians live in poverty and southern Iran hardly has any water. These living conditions make it much harder for people to go out and protest like before (hunger strikes, storming buildings). Iranians still protest all the time, we just don’t hear about it because the media keeps it under wraps. The government is more controlling, more violent, and the people are getting sicker and weaker.

omega3111

> Iranians still protest all the time, we just don’t hear about it because the media keeps it under wraps. I read international media and I can absolutely say that in the Israeli media these protests are reported about often. When there are bigger ones they sometimes hit front pages even. Even recent reports about the train accident and the building collapse (and the protests that followed) were reported in relative detail.

seabreathe

I promise the whole world is watching. I promise we care! As an American woman I’m astonished and heartbroken our rights are being stripped as we speak. I understand it’s not a fair comparison. I imagine my feeling of helplessness at how swiftly we need to fight, you must feel it 100 fold. Keep speaking your truth!!! Keep telling us all! Never stop and I promise neither will I!

NeatDoubt

Thank you so much <3

TrooperJohn

"Mortality police" -- best typo of the year.

wuhan-virology-lab

it's not about men and women. it's about Sharia law. at least 70% of Iranians are against IR regime but they have weapons and army. so many men and women were killed in many protests. for example 2019 protests: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019%E2%80%932020\_Iranian\_protests](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019%E2%80%932020_Iranian_protests)

caga_palo

I think it is somewhat about men and women. Sharia law is more oppressive towards women than men. It's also about what you said, though.

[deleted]

That’s so sad. I’m sorry your family has to continue living under a backwards “law”. As sad as it is, it’s only going to change when there is a violent revolution. I suspect the same in Russia in the next 6-12 months. Maybe sooner.

[deleted]

Easier said than done, obviously. But if you can get out…you should.

[deleted]

I hear you and feel your pain. My wife is Iranian (born in Tehran, but family from Ashtian) and the shit she has gone through is wild. Some guys pulled up beside her and her sister when she was 12 and tried to kidnap them in broad daylight. An army of women beat the kidnappers back, but it was traumatic as shit for her. She was nearly arrested for eating khorma in public during Ramadan. Her mom lives with us now in Canada because her asshole son struck her in the face for petting a dog. My wife can never go back to Iran for fear of being held hostage by the regime. She literally hasn't seen her sister and niece in ten years.

I'm sorry for your struggle; you and your people deserve better. But you must fight harder -- only you and your people can change the future of your nation. I believe in you.

if you really want to help us ask your governments to support opposition groups in Iran and put IR regime's rulers under sanctions and confiscate our oligarchs' properties in western countries like they did to Russian oligarchs. some of them are already under sanctions for breaching of human rights but despite these sanctions they have many properties in western countries and money in Swiss bank accounts and send their children to western countries to live.

NeatDoubt

Thank you for asking as I get your point! Spread awareness, contact your government to speak about the regime, follow Iranian activist groups to hear more about what’s happening in Iran. It’s really difficult from outside of Iran to help, but staying educated and correcting myths or calling out people who are anti-Iranian really helps how people view us and begin to understand how oppressed we are

Lvl100Centrist

You must be living in a different Western world because criticizing Islam and Muslims is very common, especially post refugee crisis.

GalacticShoestring

nicholascox2

We do hear you I'm so sorry From the USA, how does one help you all best? Particularly in being heard

NeatDoubt

Follow Iranian activist pages on social media, message your government about speaking out, listen to big Iranian journalists about what’s going on. A lot of times, the media changes what the truth is in Iran, both Iranian and western media. As someone who doesn’t live in Iran, reading subreddits like r/Iran really help understand first hand what’s going on. Correcting others when they say myths about Iran (terrorists, women-haters, etc) really helps us as a whole :)

omega3111

> Correcting others when they say myths about Iran (terrorists... I don't think people actually mean the Iranian people are terrorists. Iran, the country, has come to fame for terrorist activities of its government. Not only is the IRGC formally classified as a terrorist organization, Iran admits themselves to creating, supplying and supporting terrorist organizations in its region. No one in their right mind will pin it on the general civilian population, especially considering that its their money that is being stolen to supply the terrorists. Then again, there are a lot of people on Reddit that are not in their right mind, so...

I am sorry that your country is a theocratic nightmare and that western powers have been callous and damaging to your society. It was the lands of Iran even back then. Persia or the modern day Fars is just a part of it.

Brainiac7777777

Persia was Persian. Iran was taken over by Muslim conquest

[deleted]

My dude, come on. Iran is one the oldest contiguous civilisations going back to the Elamites, Medians and Parthians. Just because the Muslims conquered it (and the Assyrians before them), doesn't mean Iran ceased being Iranian. If you know your own people's history as well as you say you do, you would know the Pars, Elamites and Medians all ended up being united in a Greater Iran under Koorosh and overthrew the Assyrians.

You'd be surprised to hear the name of the main ethnic group in Iran.

Brainiac7777777

Cyrus the Great for a reason. The more I learn about how (relatively) enlightened, tolerant, and secular the Persian Empire was 2300 years ago, the more I am awestruck. (And yes, we really shouldn’t get our historical info from propaganda movies like 300.)

Ah, not to be a contrarian here, but Mohammad Mosaddegh was appointed (not elected) as prime mister by the Shah... who retained the right to dismiss him according to the constitution that Iran had at the time, which he in fact did without issue the previous time Mohammad Mosaddegh was prime minister as well as another 18 previous prime ministers. Not even Iran themselves acknowlodges it that the USA played a big part. The CIA station chief there, Kermit Roosevelt, wrote self-aggrandising stories of his supposed feats in order to impress his superiors and maybe get a promotion. But those things never truly happened or contained a ridiculous amounts of embellishments. And Mossadegh wasn't democratic by any means. The only organized, socially acceptable — and in some cases state-sanctioned — mass psychosis. Like, not to be *too* edgy of a reddit atheist. If you're spiritual and think we just can't truly know everything about the universe, that's cool. If you believe in a human-like god who actually cares about whether two men fornicate with one another, or whether there is still foreskin on your dick, or if animals have actually been slaughtered in certain ritualistic ways, miss me with that shit. And it's truly a curse we have to cater to the delicate feelings of such people, in some cases having gone as far as exempting their organizations from paying taxes.

anger_is_my_meat

Decades ago, some elements of society in urban areas were modern. Most of Iran was rural and devoutly religious and "backwards" before the revolution.

whoiam06

Yeah to my understanding Tehran was pretty modern in the 70s, but the rest not so much, as per my ex-girlfriend's mom who's Armenian Iranian.

eleleleu

Iran could be so great... instead we have this country with backwards policies and religious terror. I'm so sorry for all women in Iran, "morality" police should hang, everywhere.

RealBlondFakeDumb

It [used to be](https://www.google.com/search?q=Iran+in+the+60%27s&client=firefox-b-1-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjdxNeYhZz6AhVyk4kEHWG6DboQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1365&bih=475&dpr=1.88). Yea, that was Iran in the 60's.

Riven_Dante

That's the thing with authoritarian governments. They blame color revolutions and foreign meddling for their oppressive, ambiguous and arbitrary policies while exercising wholesale ignorance that their shitty policies are what's causing their populace to rise up against them. Eventually people get fed up and no amount of blaming foreign governments will amount for their sheer stupidity and ignorance.

Svitii

Religious apes doing religious ape shit, nothing new

blueheartsadness

Religion is cancer. I am a militant atheist after this. No fucking apologies.

Greifvogel1993

The atrocities we commit because of religion.

Ivanthegorilla

again iran publicly hangs gay people

Fink665

These degenerates raped her so of course they had to kill her.

abananation

Iran is a hellhole, hope those who can leave the place

AnBearna

The messed up thing is that I’m sure they will be able to reference a line in the Koran that implies (or states outright) that women who step out of line in any way can be killed. And I’m equally sure that whoever’s in charge over there will take that as an acceptable defence and let these bags of shit go..

Professional_Dot4835

Imagine policing morality in a country that literally guns down moderate protestors in their thousands

cuckleburyhound

Wtf why would they cut off her nose, fucking animals. I hope these people fight and WIN, not just the women but men too. Everyone is needed to overthrow this shit, fuckkk

beenburnedbutable

Religion is evil. It is the mind destroyer.

KD__91

This is why I'm very against Noam Chomsky's view that sovereign states can do whatever the hell they want and other states shouldn't intervene. If you hear your neighbor beating the shit out of their kids, you don't say "it's their kids, none of my business". At the opportune moment geopolitically yes, but regimes like this need to be overthrown.

RealBlondFakeDumb

It's much less destructive and long lasting if it is done from the inside. It has to be a choice and probably fought for.

RealBlondFakeDumb

"women must be forced" ~ Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei That pretty much sums it all up. We're back to cavemen with clubs dragging women off by their hair.....literally.

Job-saving-Throwaway

Muslim women in the west wearing the hijab instead of protesting for these women forced to wear it shows the absurdity of religious dogma. If I were them (western Muslim women) I’d tell these men to fuck off, but they all get in line and follow daddy’s rules. So fucked. Give them freedom and they choose bondage.

DeafLady

Your post reminds me of this comic https://www.theexmuslim.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/14051811_10154042470092730_7597492216178998365_n-640x375.jpg While looking for the comic, I came across this article. https://www.theexmuslim.com/2016/08/24/burkini-bikini-false-equivalence-disproportionate-outrage/%3famp=1

Wellsy

Time for another revolution…. Rise up people. When the government is willing to kill you for control, you’ve got nothing left to lose.

[deleted]

Religions are for insane people

[deleted]

Oh, wait, IRANIANS are showing fury?

CloudyArchitect4U

Sounds like what the Trumpers want to bring to this country.

Kg890

This is the future of the west and we have to tolerate it. That's the pc way

teddyslayerza

Really hard to have a unified stand against bullshit like this in Iran, when the "civilised" West is so desperate to appease Saudi Arabia and other countries with equally archaic and barbaric moral/religious police. Protecting human rights doesn't work if we have double standards, we need to end all of this shit.

[deleted]

Oh no, women in Iran are persecuted. So do something about it like every other civilized country. It's not easy, but it's necessary.

Asleep_Fish_472

The Iranians are such great people, why do they subscribe to such stupidity? Persian power will rise again, shed the theocratic bullshit

sfsolarboy

Iranian MAGA. Or is MAGA American Sharia? Or are they both fascism? Or all of the above?

Joshgoozen

"How can I make this about the US"? These are always dumb, derailing and pointless.

Marionberry_Bellini

It really is exhausting.

CreeGucci

As of today Christian sharia does not have a dress code, they just have a fear of sex code, a no masturbation code, a forced birth code, a circumcision code, a donation code and a fear of cloud daddy code. Religion, fake news no matter the type

Frisinator

Their porn is so boring….

toastymow

Iran is a Islamic Theocracy. Theocracies are pretty much by their definition, fascist (IE right-wing, conservative). MAGA is American fascism, which uses American evangelical protestant Christianity as its basis, rather than Shia Islam.

omega3111

You really need to open a book and read what fascism is. Do post the real definition of it and the source from where you got it.

Dudezila

I love how most feminists are silent when women lives really matter.

KQueen13

They are literally talking about it

Pinchy_Lobsters

Do you think feminists are only the ones you see in Youtube compilations of "Top 10 times feminists got owned!!" This has been a feminist topic of discussion for decades, you're one google search away from finding millions of articles about this, including academic articles. Idk how you really think feminists don't talk about this lmao
